**Lei Jun Buys the Dip: Is Xiaomi at HK$40 the Bottom… or a Sneaky Top?** 🤔📉📈 When founders buy their own stock, investors take notice. When Lei Jun—Mr. “All In”—drops over HK$100 million to scoop 2.6M Xiaomi shares, people pay attention. 👀🔥 And this wasn’t an isolated flex. Just days before, Xiaomi itself bought back 21.5M shares across two sessions, spending over HK$800M. That’s nearly HK$1B bought in one week by both the company and the founder. So the million-dollar question: Is HK$40 a fortress bottom… or the start of a bull trap top? 🏰🐻🐂 Let’s break it down. ⸻ 1️⃣ Why Lei Jun’s Buy Matters More Than Typical Insider Buys 🌟🧠 Lei Jun isn’t just a founder — he’s practically Xiaomi’s chief storyteller, chief brand, and chief evangelist. $XIAOMI-W(01810)$   Lei Jun just did what every retail investor daydreams about: he bought the dip—publicly, decisively, and with eight figures of conviction. On Nov. 24, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO snapped up 2.6 million Xiaomi shares on the open market at an average HK$38.58, spending a little over HK$100 million and nudging his stake to 23.26%. The disclosure hit HKEX the same day. Shares popped about 4% on the headlines, with Xiaomi trading around the HK$40 handle afterward. This wasn’t a solo act. Just days earlier, Xiaomi executed two consecutive buyback sessions on Nov. 20–21, repurchasing 21.5 million shares for more than HK$800 million. A Soft Landing or a Stumble? My Line in the Sand for Xiaomi and XPeng

Why the Sell-Off Happened Despite Both Companies Posting Excellent Quarters When $XIAOMI-W(01810)$ and $XPENG-W(09868)$ reported earnings, I half-expected a polite round of applause from the market. Instead, both stocks were thrown down the nearest lift shaft. Xiaomi delivered nearly 200% auto revenue growth with margins climbing to 25.5%. XPeng crossed 20% gross margin for the first time, hit record deliveries and narrowed its net loss. Yet the share prices behaved as if both firms had announced a surprise pivot into artisanal candle making. 🌟🌟🌟Xiaomi $XIAOMI-W(01810)$ delivered a surprisingly strong Q3 despite  Bearish market sentiments.  Revenue is up 22.3% year over year and net profit surging 81%. For the very first time, Xiaomi 's EV segment achieved its quarterly operating profit.  This was due to significant delivery growth and higher average selling prices. However Xiaomi faces headwinds due to intense competition in its smartphone market, rising memory chip costs and recent stock price volatility. The EV market is really too saturated. Smaller players in China will either have to give up, or look to be acquired by the bigger players. The market is in dire need of some consolidation, the propping up by all the leadership in each state resulted in an overly rosy picture where everyone and their mother seemed to suddenly become EV makers. If anything, I was surprised that Xiaomi chose to enter the field. I might not have kept up very closely, but I would assume they didn't do it from scratch. It would have been wise to acquire a smaller player with sound fundamentals and further build on it with the financial power that Xiaomi has.

Xpeng’s 12% surge last week signals a meaningful shift in how the market values the company.
