🤔 Is Muse actually good for $META's business?
At first glance, it looks like an obvious win.
Today, $Meta Platforms, Inc.(META)$ essentially captures the full value of the advertising transaction. Advertisers pay Meta to connect products with consumers, while creators don't take a direct cut of that ad spend.
For advertisers, it's effectively a customer acquisition cost. And as long as the economics work, Meta can keep pushing that CAC higher.
🔥 That's what makes the advertising business so powerful.
But Muse could introduce a very different model.
🛒 The Muse model
Instead of taking advertising dollars upfront, Meta could potentially take a small percentage of commerce transactions happening through Muse.
Imagine a brand like Ridge is willing to spend $20 to acquire a customer buying an $80 wallet.
Under the traditional model, Meta could capture most or all of that $20 as advertising revenue.
But if the customer discovers the wallet through Muse and Meta takes a 5% transaction fee, that's only $4.
Meta would need significantly more transaction volume to replace the economics of the original ad model.
And the difference could become even larger for lower-margin purchases.
🥦 Think about grocery shopping.
If Muse builds a shopping list from a recipe and helps someone purchase the ingredients, the transaction value may be meaningful to the retailer but the percentage Meta can realistically capture could be very small.
That creates an interesting question for $META:
Does Muse expand the pie, or does it shift users away from a much more profitable advertising funnel?
📱 There's another potential issue.
If I use Muse to find a shirt, compare products and complete the purchase directly, I may have less reason to engage with the Instagram ads that normally influence that purchase.
In that scenario, Meta isn't necessarily creating a new customer acquisition opportunity.
It may simply be moving the transaction from ads → commerce.
Of course, Muse could also be completely additive.
More product discovery, more transactions and better conversion data could ultimately make Meta's entire commerce ecosystem more valuable.
But as $META continues to rally, the economics are worth watching.
💡 A successful product doesn't automatically mean a better business model.
The key question isn't whether people will use Muse.
It's whether Meta can monetize those users at economics that are as attractive as the advertising machine it already has.
