you need everything to learn options.
take an options course, or watch a video. That's a good first step and probably the fastest. if you start by reading a book, it might be harder to learn. after which, start paper trade, or in my case, Live trading to get practical experience.
lastly, if you can be in a forum or community to discuss, that's an underrated way to improve your skills and get new ideas very quickly.

As a complete beginner, I’m focusing on learning the basics first and not trading options yet. For me, it’s more about understanding than using them as a tool. I want to feel confident with the concepts before risking real money, so I take my time going step by step.

Videos, especially on YouTube, have been the easiest way to grasp concepts, since I can replay them until it clicks. Handbooks also help by organizing strategies and lessons in a clear, structured way. I find it useful to take notes and summarize key points to reinforce my learning.

Communities like Tiger or Reddit are valuable too. Even without trading yet, reading real examples and mistakes helps me understand how experienced traders think, making my learning faster and more practical. Seeing others’ successes and failures also motivates me to stay disciplined and patient as I progress.

I have been relying on YouTube videos to learn options as well as through webinars. However, there is a need to piece the information together as the focus could be very varied.

A structured introduction on basic and advanced strategies would be very helpful to onboard. It would be helpful also if we can taught on how to navigate the Tiger platform to perform those trades. @Universe宇宙 @DiAngel @Wayneqq @LuckyPiggie @Fenger1188 @Kaixiang @SR050321 @SPOT_ON @HelenJanet @Success88 come join

@Tiramisu2020

the best way to learn is by doing it after reading the basics. make notes and learn deeper along the way. this tiger handbook is a good start, and other resources from Tiger broker App.
    1) read about the basics
    2) use a demo account to try.
    3) review the notes and mark out the lessons learned
    4) use real money to trade. start small and get a hang of things. (manage risk, observe market impact on the derivative, if it is within expectations of understanding of the use of options)

Even after joining an online course, options was still difficult to grasp until I started using Tiger Brokers' simplified options picks and the explanation and graphics that went along with it.

  • Enrol to course which explain the basic of options so you don’t have to read the boring book and eventually give up before understanding them. Especially if it’s a paid course, one will be more willing to take the first step. A first winning trade will boost confidence so keep the initial trade on the safer side.
Having friends or community with same goal and interest will ensure continuity as it is a boring journey if you do not have anyone to share the win/lose and easy to lose momentum and sight of moving forward.
Write down important rules to remind oneself so that you wouldn’t make stupid mistakes and do review on your trade to learn from every one of it.
Control loss: avoid naked call/put, allocate each position in sizes you can accept to lose, invest in good business, learn volatility how it helps and how it does not. Diversify when able.
Happy trading. May the winning comes to us all.[USD][USD][USD]

🌟🌟🌟I believe one of the best ways to learn Options Trading is to use Tiger Brokers US Options Mock Trading Platform.  This paper trading platform lets me experiment without risk.  It is like rehearsing a speech before the big day.  In this way , I will learn how it feels to be right or wrong before using my actual capital.

Another way is to join Tiger Brokers' Options Boost Camp in Telegram where I can ask and learn from fellow Tiger Friends in the community.

The key to success is as always "Practise , Practise and Practise ".

Finally I would read the Tiger Brokers' latest book on Options Trading which is an excellent guide to learn Options Trading.

🌟🌟🌟Options Trading is skill worthwhile learning.  Why?  To protect what you have built.  For example , a Protective Put is like buying insurance for your belief.

You already own the stock and you buy a put option in it.  This put gives you the right to sell the stock at a specific price before a certain date.

Why it matters:  If the stock falls below the strike price , your put gains value, offsetting your losses.  If the stock rises, you still enjoy the upside (minus the cost of the put).

A Protective Put is for the investor who believes in the company he invests in but also to protect what he has built.

When used well Options Trading is a powerful tool to enhance your returns .

I have listened to you-tube videos on basics of options trading done by a foreign speaker. However, the knowledge shared was a bit too fast and cannot be applied immediately because he did it over many videos, and as I listened to one video after another, I have forgotten most of them because too many strategies were shared without the chance of me really applying one . In due time, I forgot how to do options trading after trying one that didn't work very well in my favour.
The best lesson on options trading so far is by fellow Tiger trader, Terra_Incognita, who had recently done a free talk via the Tiger's app in September 2025. I listened intently and was engaged because he shared from his real life options trading experiences, with a high success rate, and used clear examples. Now I am raring to do options trading, again!
I hope one day when I do get awarded with the options handbook by Tiger, I will learn even more in my options trading journey .
    Way to go, Tiger!

  • Money management and risk management are 2 main factors in successful trading.
Learning how to apply different option strategies in different markets outlooks and conditions is a must.
A good course with good mentor is the best but costly.
YouTube videos most of the time can provide better learning experience than books.
Forum is the place to go for continuing study path to master the material.
I will say combine for all three with practical experience is my way to go for learning option trading.

Tks a lot Tiger brokers platform for sending the options books at my address, some of the basic take away as below, I want to learn, improve, and grow in options step by step. My focus is to first understand the basics, then practice through paper trading, and gradually move to small real trades. I will start with simple strategies like covered calls and cash-secured puts, manage risk carefully, and keep a trading journal to learn from mistakes. Over time, I will explore advanced strategies, study market trends, and keep upgrading my knowledge to become more confident and consistent in options trading.

  • I found that combining YouTube tutorials with community discussions really helped me level up in options trading. Videos made the concepts easier to visualize, while forums like Tiger Community gave me real insights from experienced traders—their successes and mistakes are super valuable. 📈💡 The mix of theory and real stories made my learning faster and more practical! 🚀

Here’s a ready-to-post, high-quality comment you can copy or adapt:

    💡 My options journey:
    • Started with YouTube – Option Alpha’s free playlist gave me a clear intro to calls, puts, and Greeks.
    • Read “Option Volatility & Pricing” by Sheldon Natenberg – finally understood why implied volatility matters and how to price risk.
    • Joined Tiger Community & Reddit r/options – real trade breakdowns and mistakes from experienced traders helped me avoid beginner traps.

🚀 Biggest lesson: Start small (even paper trade first) when testing a new strategy. It’s better to learn with tiny positions than to pay for mistakes with real money.

✅ These steps made my learning faster, more practical, and built confidence to trade live without feeling lost.

Would you like me to make this shorter & punchier (social-media style) or keep it longer & more detailed (to maximize chances for “high-quality share” rewards)?
