Is Amazon Losing the Ketchup in the AI Race?

While Google and Microsoft are racing ahead in AI, Amazon seems to be stuck at the starting line.

Microsoft is fully integrating AI into its ecosystem — from Azure to Microsoft 365 to Copilot, creating tools that businesses actually use daily. Google is doing the same. Firebase, for example, is tightly integrated with Google Cloud and now enhanced with AI tools that automatically suggest improvements, generate code, and scale applications — making it a no-brainer for developers.

Even Meta (Facebook) is pouring massive resources into AI, open-sourcing models, and exploring edge capabilities. They’re not just talking about AI — they’re deploying it to grow their platform.

Meanwhile, Amazon, despite having the powerful AWS platform, doesn’t have any standout AI offering that captures developer mindshare or consumer excitement. Yes, they offer some AI/ML services on AWS, but nothing that’s really sticky or disruptive in the current wave. Alexa, once a frontrunner, has stagnated. And there’s no killer application driving users or enterprises toward Amazon AI.

So while Amazon dominates in e-commerce and still has strong AWS infrastructure, it’s noticeably behind in this new era of AI-led growth. If you’re thinking long-term about Amazon — especially as a tech stock — you have to ask: where’s the AI moat?

If they don’t launch something meaningful soon, they risk losing not just revenue, but relevance.
