Mr. Market, an allegory used to describe the irrational, erratic, and emotional behavior that can drive stock prices up and down, is a good lens through which to view the pandemic-era ups and downs of certain stocks.Carvana and Coinbase have never made much sense as businesses, at least to me. Carvana operates car vending machines and an online used car buying and selling platform, using billions in debt to fund expansion while losing money on every single car it sells. Coinbase charges high transaction fees on trades through its cryptocurrency exchange, a model that only works during times of extreme euphoria in the cryptocurrency markets. The pandemic convinced Mr. Market that both of these companies were worth tens of billions of dollars. Carvana benefited from soaring demand and prices for used cars, a situation that Mr. Market seemingly believed would last forever. And Coinbase temporarily earned billions in profit as retail traders frantically traded digital tokens as cryptocurrency prices exploded, leading Mr. Market to turn a blind eye to that fact that cryptocurrency has little utility and no intrinsic value whatsoever.Optimism crashes into realityCarvana was valued at roughly $30 billion at one point in 2021. For reference, U.S. used car dealers generate around $140 billion of revenue annually, and it's not a high-margin affair. In 2021, when Carvana was seeing intense demand and growing rapidly, the company's gross margin was still just 15%.Coinbase's market cap topped $70 billion in late 2021. As I pointed out earlier that year, Coinbase's success was extremely fragile. If cryptocurrency were to go mainstream and find real-world utility, it would kill the volatility that drives trading activity and revenue for Coinbase. If it remained a highly speculative asset class, competition would eat away at Coinbase's profit margins. And if cryptocurrency prices crashed and interest faded away, Coinbase would obviously suffer. There were no good outcomes. For Carvana, the end of the used car boom apparently caught the company off guard. Retail unit sales tumbled in the third quarter, and more concerningly, gross profit per vehicle fell off a cliff. Carvana is overloaded with debt, and interest payments ate up nearly half of the company's depressed gross profit in the third quarter. With pricing based on supply and demand, and with Carvana's cost structure tuned for a booming market it apparently expected to never end, the company is in deep trouble. For Coinbase, trading activity has evaporated amid plunging cryptocurrency prices and multiple frauds and scandals that have rocked the industry. Like Carvana, Coinbase has a cost problem. The company's cost structure only makes sense in a never-ending cryptocurrency bubble. The bubble has burst, and it doesn't look like it will be reinflating anytime soon.Don't ignore the bond marketWhile Mr. Market is manic, swinging from optimism to pessimism and back again on a dime, drinking the Kool-Aid one minute and spitting it out the next, the bond market is a more serious affair. When bond investors become pessimistic about a particular company, it would be wise for stock investors to pay attention. For both Carvana and Coinbase, bond investors are screaming at stock investors to get real:A Carvana bond issued in May that matures in 2030 is currently trading for less than 47 cents on the dollar.A Coinbase bond issued in late 2021 that matures in 2031 is going for less than 52 cents on the dollar, despite Coinbase's balance sheet still featuring around $5 billion of cash. These prices suggest that the bond market does not expect either company to survive. Carvana is in more immediate danger -- its debt situation is untenable, and the company doesn't have the liquidity to keep going for much longer based on the rate at which it's burning cash. Carvana's free cash flow through the first nine months of 2022 was a loss of $1 billion, despite a reduction in vehicle inventories.Coinbase has a longer runway, but its business model appears to be completely broken. The company has a bunch of cash laying around, but that cash is quickly going out the door. In just nine months, Coinbase's cash balance has declined by more than $2 billion, not counting customer deposits. With the collapse of FTX and revelations about the large-scale fraud going on at that once-mighty cryptocurrency exchange, it seems unlikely that cryptocurrency markets are going to stage a comeback anytime soon.Miracles sometimes happen, but they're not a valid investing strategy. Get out while you still can.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"CVNA":0.9,"COIN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3107,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9965407897,"gmtCreate":1669994709419,"gmtModify":1676538285201,"author":{"id":"4101347065318180","authorId":"4101347065318180","name":"Eluvium","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4101347065318180","idStr":"4101347065318180"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please state reason for surge and upside!","listText":"Please state reason for surge and upside!","text":"Please state reason for surge and upside!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9965407897","repostId":"1139369171","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1139369171","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1669994408,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1139369171?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-02 23:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Hot Chinese ADRs Continued to Fly Higher in Morning Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1139369171","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Hot Chinese ADRs continued to fly higher in morning trading.XPeng surged over 26%; We've all thought it: I wish I had bought stock X at crazy price $Y when the market was punishing it in year Z. Well, 2022 may very well be your chance to make good on that wish.Three Fool.com contributors think new Warren Buffett stock Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, e-commerce titan Amazon, and top semiconductor technologist ASML Holding are buys during this bear market. Here's why. It's not too late to buy Warren Buffett's latest stock pickBilly Duberstein (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing): While Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, got a nice 10% boost on the news Warren Buffett took a big stake in the world's largest chipmaker, the stock is still down 50% from its all-time high and still trades for less than 15 times earnings. That's not too shabby for a company that demonstrates the ability to pass on higher prices to its customers, even if those customers are as powerful as Apple and Nvidia. When confronted with rising materials and freight costs this year, TSMC was able to pass on price increases with no customer refusing, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News. This is because TSMC dominates the semiconductor manufacturing industry, producing more than 50% of all semiconductors globally, while also leading the production of the most advanced semiconductors made on the latest node. While both Intel and Samsung are investing heavily in their foundry businesses, with the goal of catching up to TSMC's technology lead, it's far from assured these companies will be able to -- especially as TSMC invests another $36 billion this year in capital expenditures. By comparison, Intel just lowered its 2022 capex plans to $21 billion, amid its own business challenges this year.Leading-edge semiconductor production is only becoming more and more difficult, as the distance between transistors shrinks to a matter of angstroms. Thus, it may prove difficult for TSMC's peers to catch up -- especially as TSMC is in a stronger position financially as well as technologically. On its recent conference call, TSMC management said that while the semiconductor industry will likely shrink in 2023 amid a global downturn, TSMC will still grow, due to its competitive advantages:We expect probably 2023, the semiconductor industry will likely decline. But TSMC also is not immune, but we believe our technology position, strong portfolio in HPC [high-performance computing] and longer-term strategic relationship with customer will enable our business to be more resilient than the overall semiconductor industry. And that's why we say in 2023, still a growth year for TSMC, and the overall industry probably will decline.A company that can pass along price increases to customers and grow even when its overall industry is declining is no doubt quite attractive -- especially when the stock trades for such a reasonable valuation. No wonder Buffett likes the stock. Why Amazon is a screaming buy todayAnders Bylund (Amazon): E-commerce and cloud computing giant Amazon is in the dumps right now. The stock has lost more than $1 trillion in market value from the all-time peak in the summer of 2021. The run-up that started with the COVID-19 lockdowns in the spring of 2020 is just a memory now. Amazon share prices are back where they were at the start of 2020, missing out on a dividend-adjusted 27% gain for the S&P 500 index. The prevailing Amazon thesis today is that online shopping has peaked and there's nowhere to go but down. The company seemed to support that idea when it announced layoffs just ahead of the holidays. The stock sold off further as a result.I think that's a huge mistake. Amazon bears are missing out on a massive moneymaking opportunity here. You can't stop the retail market from moving online over time. Sure, there will always be a niche market for brick-and-mortar stores where shoppers can touch and smell the goods. However, most people will eventually prefer the lower costs found on online shopping portals with automated warehouses and ultra-low overhead costs. This revolution is only getting started, as e-commerce sales account for less than 15% of the total retail market today. So Amazon is pumping the brakes on operating costs for this holiday season, in the middle of an inflation-powered economic crisis. But the stormy seas must eventually subside, and Amazon's business growth should hit the ground running again whenever that happens. Meanwhile, I'm excited to see Amazon's stock price going nowhere in three years while annual sales have increased by 80%.AMZN DATA BY YCHARTSIn short, the rumors of Amazon's death are exaggerated. This giant isn't going away, and the company's best days are still far in the future. Conventional wisdom tells investors to buy low and sell high, and the best time to follow that advice is when there's blood on the Street. This bear market has made Amazon a screaming buy for long-term investors.ASML: 30% more expected growth, but 30% less in priceNicholas Rossolillo (ASML Holding): If you were looking for a green flag before investing in ASML Holding, management just waved one better -- a purple-ish flag. The Dutch company, which has a monopoly on extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment used in making the most advanced chips around, just provided quite the update to its 2025 financial targets. At the company's investor day a year ago, it predicted it would generate revenue in between $24 billion and $30 billion by 2025. But things have changed. Semiconductor demand is through the roof and only headed higher as chips proliferate in all sorts of consumer devices, industrial equipment, and data centers. The U.S. CHIPS Act and other government programs from other countries are helping boost chip manufacturing. As a result, ASML now thinks its revenue can reach a range of $30 billion to $40 billion by 2025. That's a 30% increase from the outlook last year, at the midpoint of guidance. For reference, ASML revenue was just over $21 billion in the last 12-month stretch. Assuming it only reaches the low end of its guidance -- $30 billion -- in the next three years, that still represents a compound annual growth rate of 11%. Not bad, ASML.Bear in mind that ASML's position as a critical chipmaking equipment supplier (and the only one with irreplaceable EUV technology, no less) means it will remain highly profitable. It pays a rising dividend and returns a generous amount of its remaining free cash flow back to shareholders via stock repurchases. Management just boosted that buyback authorization by another $12 billion. In recent weeks, ASML stock rebounded in a dramatic fashion. However, as of this writing, the stock still remains down over 30% from where it was one year ago. With a lot of reasons to feel even more optimistic about this company's prospects than before, now still looks like an incredible time to buy and hold for the next few years.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMZN":0.9,"TSM":0.9,"ASML":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2245,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9913994670,"gmtCreate":1663894398890,"gmtModify":1676537357629,"author":{"id":"4101347065318180","authorId":"4101347065318180","name":"Eluvium","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4101347065318180","idStr":"4101347065318180"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9913994670","repostId":"1122383355","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1122383355","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing This is because the service is more resilient to recessions and seemingly more innovative than its competitors.Disney (DIS) has endured one of the worst slates of headwinds in recent memory, but it could emerge on the other side in a position of strength. Many catalysts, including the reopening of parks and resorts, can act as a boon for the stock over the coming months. However, it’s Disney+ and a shift of strategy that could help it take meaningful share away from rival Netflix (NFLX) amid its subscriber bleed. I am bullish on Disney stock.Indeed, the video-streaming on demand (SVOD) market has been under pressure of late, with a slowing economy and a tightening consumer. Netflix recently clocked in some better-than-feared results that saw it shed nearly 1 million subscribers. Netflix stock rallied as investors feared subscriber losses closer to 2 million.Though Netflix’s subscriber free-fall signals that the streaming market is destined for sub-optimal returns (content spending is so incredibly expensive and is not without its fair share of risk), I’d argue that Netflix’s shortfall represents an opportunity for its peers. The streaming wars are far from over. At this juncture, it appears that Disney is en route to becoming the new king of SVOD. It’s not just a large quantity of quality video content that could help Disney leap-frog Netflix as the going gets tough.Disney has learned quite a bit from its entrance into the streaming markets, and it could shake up the model in an effort to attract new users and keep them subscribed. Indeed, the image below shows how Disney’s streaming platforms keep seeing an increase in unique visitors.Interestingly, of all the streamers,Hulu saw the strongest growth in website traffic on a year-over-year basis during June 2022.Is Disney+ More Recession-Resilient than the Rest? There’s a lot of competition for subscriber dollars these days. As we approach an economic slowdown or downturn, the subscription economy could witness what I’ll refer to as “the Great Cancellation.” Consumers probably won’t cancel everything, but they will be more selective. Arguably, Disney+ stands out as a must-have service. It has a deep library of content and is about to get much better, with a pipeline full of intriguing releases.Recently, Disney+ added two R-rated titles in “Deadpool” and “Logan” to its lineup. Believe it or not, Disney+ subscribers aren’t all children. With many older audiences engaged, Disney may have an opportunity to kick its growth into high drive by including more R-rated content across its Marvel universes.Disney+’s Hotstar service is full of R-rated films, and it’s been a hit among viewers. Given the popularity of mature Marvel films, one has to think that Disney may be in a position to better cater to its many older viewers.Disney+ Can Out-Innovate NetflixWhen it comes to streaming, content remains king. However, there are other areas that can help streamers gain a leg up on the competition. Most notably, innovative technologies and new streaming models. Indeed, Disney is no stranger to trying new things with its streaming platform. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Disney tested the waters with Premiere Access, allowing users to view theatrical films from their own homes. As the American economy reopened, the company pulled the brakes on the initiative. The cinemas are starting to fill their seats with bums again, making Premiere Access likely a short-lived endeavor with mixed success.Looking ahead, Disney could test out new models to improve stickiness. Ultra-long TV series with many episodes trickled in weekly may be the future of streaming. By disallowing binging, streamers can combat the “flip-flopping” across streaming platforms and keep subscribers subscribed.Disney is already doing a fantastic job of spreading its quality content over time. Its pipeline is always full, and there are usually intriguing new launches to look forward to in any given month. As Netflix and other streamers look to introduce ad-supported tiers, Disney will be following suit. Disney’s ad-based service promises fewer ads than Hulu’s ad-based service. As streaming embraces (targeted) ads, we may very well see firms like Disney taking away ad business from social-media firms. With exceptional algorithms, I’d look for Disney to really thrive as the streaming wars make an interesting pivot.Wall Street’s Take on DisneyTurning to Wall Street, Disney has a Moderate Buy consensus rating based on 17 Buys and eight Holds assigned in the past three months. The average Disney price target of $137.35 implies 33.3% upside potential. Analyst price targets range from a low of $110.00 per share to a high of $176.00 per share. The Bottom Line: Disney will Likely become KingDisney+ has a lot going for it, as ad-based tiers become a preferred option among consumers seeking to save a bit of cash. At this pace, I expect Disney+ will be crowned the new king of streaming as soon as a few years.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"DIS":0.9,"NFLX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1841,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9070104515,"gmtCreate":1657025967337,"gmtModify":1676535933781,"author":{"id":"4101347065318180","authorId":"4101347065318180","name":"Eluvium","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4101347065318180","idStr":"4101347065318180"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Noted","listText":"Noted","text":"Noted","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9070104515","repostId":"1199488369","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1199488369","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1657025674,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1199488369?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-07-05 20:54","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Price Target Changes|Tesla Reduced to $385 by JPM; Alphabet Lowered to $3,000 by Barclays","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1199488369","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Barclays cut Alphabet Inc. price target from $3,200 to $3,000.
