BlockBlock has placed itself at the center of fintech in many developed countries. Its business-oriented Square ecosystem and its Cash App continue to grow by expanding into new markets and broadening its scope of business within existing countries.Block just entered its eighth country early this year by bringing its ecosystem into Spain. Now, due to its presence in three EU countries, the company once known as Square has an easier path to serving the rest of the Eurozone.Moreover, it added cryptocurrency capabilities with its Bitcoin trading platform in both Square and Cash App. This likely helped it almost catch up to PayPal Holdings' Venmo in terms of popularity. Also, according to Research and Markets, the addressable market for fintech is expected to reach $31.5 trillion by 2026, a 27% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) that should bring opportunities for lots of companies in this sector, including Square.Block increased its 2021 revenue by 86% compared with 2020, 57% if excluding Bitcoin. This led to adjusted earnings of $898 million in the same period, 111% higher than year-ago levels. Analysts only expect 7% revenue growth in 2022 before it rebounds to 22% the next year.Still, the stock has lost more than half of its value since its peak last summer. With a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of about 4, it has fallen from the double-digit sales multiples of early last year. This makes it more reasonably priced as Block seeks to meet the financial needs of more businesses and individuals.2. DigitalOceanAt first glance, companies such as Amazon and Microsoft dominate the cloud industry and cater their services to lots of big names. However, their product offerings are not really catered to the specific needs of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). DigitalOcean has built a high-growth enterprise by filling that gap. But while it offers simple, affordable pricing plans tailored to the needs of SMEs, its most vital advantage seems to lie in its community. Members of this community give and receive advice, helping these businesses resolve IT challenges that might otherwise hamper smaller enterprises.Also, DigitalOcean already claims about 600,000 customers in 185 countries. and the cloud market should also leave plenty of room for company growth. Grand View Research estimates the cloud infrastructure market will grow to $1.55 trillion by 2030, up from $484 billion today.DigitalOcean's 2021 revenue of $429 million makes up only a tiny fraction of that addressable market, though that was a 35% increase compared with 2020. Moreover, it cut its yearly loss to about $20 million, down from $44 million in 2020. Furthermore, revenue estimates for between $564 million and $568 million amount to 32% growth if the estimate holds, pointing to little if any slowdowns.Additionally, the stock has dropped 55% from its November high, taking its P/S ratio down to around 13. While this is higher than its larger competitors, a lower stock price and rapid revenue growth rate should take this stock much higher as the need for the cloud within SMEs continues to expand.3. RokuRoku has managed to capitalize on the transition of televised media to streaming. Through its aggregation of services and the offering of its Roku platform and channel, it provides an avenue by which companies can fund programming through advertising.Furthermore, Roku continues its expansion into Europe and Latin America, giving it leverage as companies like Alphabet attempt to compete. Additionally, the company has integrated its operating system into new televisions and offered its equipment at a low cost, easing the adoption of its platform.Roku claimed about 60 million users as of the end of 2021. Also, Research and Markets forecasts that the global digital advertising market will grow to $764 billion by 2025 and to $1.45 trillion by 2030 for a CAGR of 13.7%. Roku appears well-positioned to capture much of this increase as it currently only operates in roughly 20 countries and has plans for further expansion.So far, Roku has barely begun to scratch the surface of its potential. In 2021, it generated almost $2.8 billion in revenue, 55% more than in 2020. The revenue growth helped the company earn $242 million in net income, an improvement from the $18 million loss in 2020.Admittedly, the first-quarter outlook for 25% year-over-year revenue growth represents a slowdown. Still, the stock has fallen by about 75% from its high last July. Also, the P/S ratio now stands at six, down from 33 last February. When he's overly excited, you should consider selling to him; when he's pessimistic, you should think about buying. Right now, Mr. Market is very downbeat on diversified international industrial giant 3M. One way to see this is that the company's dividend yield, at around 3.3%, is near the top end of its historical range.MMM Dividend Yield data by YChartsGraham had some other advice when it came to actually selecting stocks. Specifically, he argued that most investors would be wise sticking to large, financially strong companies, with strong dividend histories. 3M stacks up well on these measures. It has a market cap of $100 billion, which makes it a mega-cap stock. Its balance sheet is investment-grade rated by the major credit agencies, so it's financially strong. And it has increased its dividend annually for over 60 years, making it a very elite Dividend King.So why is Mr. Market pessimistic? The answer is a mixture of slowing growth and some product and environmental lawsuits. These are notable problems, but they're not insurmountable. On the business front, the industrial giant's operations wax and wane over time just like any other company. Given its history and focus on innovation, it should eventually get back on a better track. As for the lawsuits, they could be costly, but it's likely that 3M will be able to handle the hit. In the end, this is an attractively priced name with a great history that is dealing with issues that seem transitory.A proven value creatorMatt DiLallo (Brookfield Asset Management): I like to invest. Because of that, I routinely purchase a variety of stocks. However, if I could only buy one in the coming year, Brookfield Asset Management would be my top choice.For starters, I love the company's management. CEO Bruce Flatt is a personal favorite of mine. He's right up there with Warren Buffett in my book as one of the best value investors around. I enjoy reading his quarterly letter to shareholders, which Flatt fills with investing and economic insight. He's also a proven value creator. Since becoming CEO in 2002, he's helped Brookfield deliver a 15.7% total annualized return, pulverizing the S&P 500's 10.6% total return during that time frame. I also like the company's business model. Brookfield is a leading global alternative asset manager focused on real estate, infrastructure, and renewable energy -- three of my favorite investing themes. An investment in Brookfield provides broad exposure to those three asset classes and many more. Brookfield invests directly across those themes and manages private equity funds focused on those sectors.Finally, Brookfield has enormous upside potential. It expects to double its fee-bearing assets under management over the next five years. Combine that with performance-based earnings on its funds and the compounding value of its balance sheet investments, and it has the potential of generating up to 25% annualized total returns over the next five years. That upside, along with all the other positives, is why I'd buy Brookfield if it were the only stock I could purchase this year. Investors are overlooking the growth potential hereNeha Chamaria (Brookfield Renewable): 2021 is turning out to be a record-setting year for global renewable electricity addition, but this could just be the beginning. Yet shares of one of the largest pure-play renewables companies that's growing at a steady pace have languished this year, which is why Brookfield Renewable would be at the top of my shopping list of stocks to buy in 2022.Brookfield Renewable, in fact, generated record funds from operations (FFO) in its third quarter and believes it could grow FFO by nearly 20% per year through 2026 through a combination of organic and inorganic growth. 2021 was also a solid year in terms of growth initiatives, with Brookfield Renewable expanding its U.S. distributed-generation business by nearly five times, signing agreements to acquire multiple late-stage solar development projects in the U.S. and even making meaningful headway in the high-potential green hydrogen space.Brookfield Renewable's current development pipeline is larger than ever, and the company is committed to growing dividends annually by 5% to 9%. That shouldn't be tough given the solid pace of growth in its FFO. The U.S. nonfarm payrolls report for September will be released in early October, the last such report before Fed policymakers gather again in November.</p>\n<p>“It wouldn’t take a knockout or super-strong employment report,” to start the “taper” of the bond-buying program, with the process expected to wind down by the middle of next year, Powell said.</p>\n<p>That timetable has taken on added significance. The Fed wants its purchases of Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities to end before it starts lifting borrowing costs, and new projections showed officials poised for that to happen in 2022.</p>\n<p>The Fed now projects inflation will run above its target for four consecutive years. Even though the overshoot is slight, at 2.2% in 2022 and 2023 and 2.1% in 2024, it has begun to shift views among policymakers who have been divided over whether the biggest risk is the pandemic’s ongoing impact on the economy, marked by relatively high joblessness, or the threat of breakout inflation.</p>\n<p>For the time being, the Fed still anticipates being able to spur employment while keeping a lid on inflation, which it views as the result of “transitory” forces that will ebb on their own.</p>\n<p>Indeed, the interest rate increases are expected to proceed slowly, pushing the Fed’s benchmark overnight lending rate to 1% in 2023 and then to 1.8% in 2024 - still considered a loose monetary policy stance that will allow the unemployment rate to fall to its pre-pandemic level of around 3.5%.</p>\n<p>Policymakers, however, downgraded their expectations for economic growth this year, with gross domestic product expected to grow 5.9% compared to the 7.0% projected in June, largely as a result of the new wave of coronavirus cases.</p>\n<p>Overall, the Fed’s statement and projections are “probably a little bit more hawkish than many would have anticipated, basically acknowledging that should the economy continue to grow as we have seen, it would warrant a tapering to occur,” said Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist for CFRA Research in New York. “You could say it’s a tentative tapering announcement even though they did lower their 2021 GDP forecast.”</p>\n<p>Powell told reporters financial conditions would remain accommodative even after the Fed stops its asset purchases and emphasized that the decision on the bond-buying program was separate from any actions regarding interest rates.</p>\n<p>The Fed on Wednesday held its current target interest rate steady in a range of 0% to 0.25%.</p>\n<p>U.S. stocks extended gains after the release of the statement before retreating later in the afternoon, with the S&amp;P 500 index closing up about 1%. U.S. Treasury yields see-sawed, with the yield on the benchmark U.S. 10-year note edging lower.</p>\n<p>SLOWING RECOVERY</p>\n<p>The Fed’s September policy statement had been widely expected to point to the coming end of the bond purchases it has been making to blunt the economic impact of the pandemic.</p>\n<p>Fed officials said last December that they would continue purchasing bonds at the current pace until there was “substantial further progress” on the central bank’s goals for maximum employment and inflation.</p>\n<p>The inflation benchmark has been cleared, Powell said on Wednesday, and the employment standard “all but met.”</p>\n<p>But it was in their broader economic outlook that Fed policymakers made a less anticipated change.</p>\n<p>Their outlook for inflation jumped 0.8 percentage point for 2021 and the expected end-of-year unemployment rate rose over policymakers’ previous forecast in June.
