The company will actively cooperate with regulatory investigations, further improve its business compliance management level, protect the legitimate rights and interests of users and all parties, promote the long-term healthy development of the industry, and earnestly fulfill its social responsibilities. The company's various businesses are currently operating normally.

Wang Xing, the founder of Meituan, who usually likes to update his updates and comment on events on Fanfou, was very silent on this day.

This is another major move by the State Administration for Market Regulation after it announced a heavy fine against Alibaba on April 10.

On April 10, Alibaba was fined 18.228 billion yuan by the State Administration for Market Regulation. According to the administrative penalty decision issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation (hereinafter referred to as the \"Penalty Decision\"), Alibaba's main fault was to implement a \"choose one of two\" monopoly in China's online retail platform service market, which constituted an abuse of market dominance.

After Ali is heavily punished, who will be the next target of investigation? The capital market is most worried about Meituan. April 10th was a Saturday, and the stock market was closed. On April 12th, the first trading day after the announcement of the heavy penalty against Alibaba, Meituan's stock price plummeted by 5.03%, a much larger drop than the stock prices of companies such as Tencent, JD.com, and Pinduoduo.

On April 13, the third day after the State Administration for Market Regulation announced the results of its anti-monopoly investigation into Alibaba, the State Administration for Market Regulation, together with the Cyberspace Administration of China and the State Taxation Administration, convened an administrative guidance meeting for 34 Chinese internet companies, requiring them to give full play to the warning role of the Alibaba case and for each platform to conduct a comprehensive self-inspection and thoroughly rectify each item within one month. The rectification includes issues such as abusing market dominance, forcing the implementation of a \"choose one of two\" policy, implementing \"cherry-picking mergers and acquisitions\" and \"burning money\" to seize the community group buying market, implementing \"big data price discrimination,\" ignoring counterfeit and substandard products, information leakage, and committing tax-related violations.

On April 14, the Huai'an Intermediate People's Court of Jiangsu Province ruled on Meituan's unfair competition practices: Beijing Sankuai Technology Co., Ltd. (Meituan) will compensate Shanghai Lazhas Information Technology Co., Ltd. (Ele.me) 352,000 yuan.

Fast forward a little over a month (March 3), and the State Administration for Market Regulation announced administrative penalties for unfair pricing practices by five community group-buying companies: Chengxin Youxuan, Duoduo Maicai, Meituan Youxuan, Shihuituan, and Shixianghui. Among them, four community group-buying companies, namely Chengxin Youxuan, Duoduo Maicai, Meituan Youxuan, and Shihuituan, were each fined 1.5 million yuan, and Shixianghui was fined 500,000 yuan.

In the past two months, Meituan's stock price has been hit by frequent investigations or penalties, and its market value has evaporated by nearly HK$900 billion.

A legal professional told Ran Finance that the Anti-Monopoly Law regulates the abuse of market dominance by market dominants. \"This means that both the identity of the 'market dominant' and the abuse itself are indispensable in the definition of monopoly.\"

According to reports, Wang Xing mentioned in 2018 that Meituan's market share accounted for about 60% of the entire market. In the past two years, Meituan Waimai's market share has continued to rise. Last year, the Guangdong Provincial Catering Service Industry Association released data stating that Meituan Waimai had a market share of 60-90% in Guangdong's catering delivery market, forming a de facto monopoly.

Those who have long followed Meituan should remember that last February, catering associations in many places published articles criticizing Meituan's high commissions. For example, on February 21, 2020, the Nanchong Hot Pot Association sent an online letter to the local mayor's mailbox, reporting Meituan's alleged commission increases, monopolistic operations, and unfair competition during the pandemic.

In the local services sector, Meituan is undoubtedly the number one player. However, it is estimated that by 2024, the market size of local services will reach 2.8 trillion yuan, while Meituan's revenue in 2020 was only 114.79 billion yuan. In other words, this market has huge potential, and various giants have entered it one after another. Industry insiders say that in the past 10 years, local services has been one of the most competitive tracks.

A Nanjing-based food delivery chain told Ran Finance that Meituan and Ele.me used to offer preferential policies to encourage merchants to only join the Meituan or Ele.me single platform. “It used to be called exclusivity. For example, if you were exclusive on Meituan, you couldn’t open a store on Ele.me. Ele.me also had exclusivity, but all exclusivity was canceled a few months ago. Since the regulators started to crack down on monopolies, no one dares to mention exclusivity anymore.”

In an article titled \"Alibaba Severely Penalized, Meituan Plunges,\" published by Ran Finance, an insider at Meituan bluntly stated: \"The amount of the penalty imposed on Alibaba is not the key point. The key point is that in the past, anti-monopoly measures only imposed punitive measures, but now even incentive measures are no longer sufficient. Every giant is having a hard time. How will they organize promotions in the future?\"

Industry insiders say that unlike Alibaba, which places greater emphasis on merchants, Meituan has always placed greater emphasis on users. According to Wang Xing, Meituan is engaged in e-commerce that provides local services. The business model is that after Meituan communicates with merchants, it offers discounted products, which are then purchased by users and then consumed in offline stores. Meituan collects money from users and then purchases from merchants. Therefore, for Meituan, users and traffic are the most important things, while merchants are just suppliers and can be replaced at any time. \"This is also the fundamental reason why the relationship between merchants and Meituan is relatively tense.\"

During this investigation of Meituan, Ran Finance found four people who experienced Meituan's choice of two options. The following is their account of their experiences.

Refusing to \"choose one of two\" will lead to a bank run.

I eventually closed my shop.

Liu Yun | 28-year-old snail rice noodle shop owner

Although I haven't been in the catering industry for more than half a year, when I learned that Meituan was under investigation for suspected \"choose one of two\" policies, I couldn't help but applaud when I recalled Meituan's initial crackdown on merchants opening dual platforms.

I joined the catering industry in mid-2019. As a native of Guangxi, I chose to open a snail rice noodle shop in a third-tier city in Guangdong for my first entrepreneurial venture. Although the small shop is not large, it has attracted many customers because I have put a lot of effort into the selection of ingredients and the soup base.

At that time, Meituan and Ele.me had already established themselves as the two dominant players in the local consumer market, and basically no catering business could avoid these two giants. Especially on the small street where I live, more than 80-90% of the shops have connected to food delivery platforms, so I need to connect to online platforms for promotion.

After I opened the store, salespeople from both food delivery platforms came to my door to invite me to join the platform. After comprehensively considering manpower issues, I launched the Meituan Waimai platform in the second half of 2019. I also considered Ele.me, but I knew from the beginning that I didn't have much energy to manage both platforms, so I chose the Meituan platform, which was chosen by most of the shops around me.

I coordinated all matters related to joining the platform with Meituan sales representatives. I remember the sales representatives gave me a commission ratio plan ranging from 18-25%. As a merchant, my first reaction was naturally to choose the lowest commission ratio. Correspondingly, the sales representatives told me that if I chose the lowest commission ratio, it would mean that I would not be able to join other food delivery platforms.

At first, I didn't care about the importance of this \"choose one of two\" option. I was mainly focused on running the restaurant business when I first started. Although online promotion was important, it wasn't my main option, so I didn't think about joining other platforms.

For a long time after joining the Meituan platform, my store's main profit was still offline, with only about thirty online takeout orders a day. When I was busy offline, I would stop placing online orders. However, the pandemic that occurred in early 2020 disrupted my business rhythm. After resuming offline work in April 2020, the store's daily turnover was basically zero. As a small shop, although the operating costs were not high, in order to reduce losses and make a living, I turned my attention to online food delivery.

After resuming work, the food delivery platform only handled a few orders a day, sometimes up to ten, but this made up for fixed expenses such as rent, utilities, and other expenses. At that time, I thought, since I wanted to focus my store operations online, why not also launch the Ele.me platform?

I immediately started preparing, inquiring about and compiling the information required to join Ele.me. However, shortly after I launched on the Ele.me platform, Meituan warned me that I had violated the \"exclusive agreement\" and ordered me to remove it from Ele.me. After I refused, Meituan started to trip me up. First, the store's delivery service was reduced, and then my participation in some Meituan activities was inexplicably frozen.

To resolve the issue, I communicated with a Meituan salesperson. To my surprise, when I contacted the Meituan salesperson, they simply told me that if I wanted to return to normal, I had to log off the Ele.me platform. They said that since I had chosen the lowest commission when I signed the contract, it meant I had to become an exclusive Meituan merchant.

After multiple negotiations with the salesperson without any results, I contacted Meituan customer service, but Meituan customer service kept shifting blame, saying things like, \"Let the salesperson's actions prevail, and they cannot interfere.\" Afterwards, a salesperson came to the door and said that the platform's commission rate would be increased to 25%.

I communicated with the salesperson about this again. I said that during the pandemic, Meituan had already said that it would support merchants, and it was not necessary that they would adjust the commission ratio because they did not accept the \"choose one of two\" policy. Furthermore, my store is just a small store with about ten orders a day, and it's not a top-ranked store, so the platform doesn't need to ban me. However, the salesperson remained unmoved. When he saw that I did not agree to log off from Ele.me, his words became quite harsh.

After that negotiation, my shop ranked lower and lower on Meituan, and it was even difficult to find the shop. Shortly after my online business was \"blocked\" due to a platform run, the store landlord wanted to sell the store due to cash flow problems. I had no choice but to close the store. At the same time, the catering industry was also not doing well. So after closing the store last September, I returned to my hometown to start a small business. Now I just hope that Meituan will be fined a large sum of money like Alibaba, so as to dampen the arrogance of large platforms.

Increasing the commission rate at the slightest disagreement

I can't escape Meituan's exclusive agreement.

One Class | 36-Year-Old Sichuan Restaurant Owner

I've been in the catering industry for almost 10 years. I've tried everything from hot pot, which doesn't require any technical skills, to refined Sichuan and Anhui cuisine. Although our turnover has been increasing over the years, our net profit has been decreasing. Especially after online platforms entered this market, the catering industry has become more and more competitive. It can be said that making money in this industry is becoming more and more difficult.

In 2018, I opened a Sichuan restaurant near the Hefei World Financial Center. There was a lot of foot traffic there, and there was a large market just for office workers to eat lunch.

After opening the shop, because I hired a skilled chef, the dishes tasted authentic, and the prices were affordable, my shop did well. Not long after, people from Meituan and Ele.me came to me and asked me to download their systems.

At that time, after being educated by Meituan, Dianping, Koubei, and Ele.me, the catering industry became increasingly reliant on such online platforms for ordering. So, we inevitably signed with Meituan. When we first signed up for Meituan, we also listed products on Ele.me and didn't sign an exclusive agreement with any of them. However, Meituan's commission rate for us was a bit high; others charged 18%, while we charged 20%.

At the time, Meituan offered greater discounts and attracted more customers, so we had no objection to this commission rate. Later, due to the many promotional activities launched, Meituan's traffic conversion rate had reached 50% of daily sales. It can be said that our store could no longer do without Meituan's online promotion, while Ele.me's traffic was much lower.

Photo provided by the interviewee

At this point, Meituan's salespeople repeatedly told me to stop cooperating with Ele.me and only cooperate with Meituan. His reasoning was that Meitu has a high market share and is backed by a powerful company, which will provide greater subsidies in the future. Furthermore, Meituan and Dianping are interconnected, which will make it easier to manage customer reviews. If we choose another company, they will stop cooperating with us.

At the time, I felt that this system was extremely unreasonable. After complaining to customer service, although my shop was not removed, my ranking dropped sharply. Later, Meituan informed me that the commission rate had been increased from 20% to 25%. At this point, I can't accept it anymore, because 20% is the limit we can accept, and it's also the watershed moment for businesses to make a profit.

What does 25% mean? It's equivalent to giving up all the profits from my entire food delivery business to Meituan. Based on my monthly turnover of around 200,000 yuan and a gross profit of 60%, I would have a gross profit of around 120,000 yuan. The total cost, including rent, labor, water, electricity, gas, staff dormitory, and marketing expenses, is about 80,000 yuan.

Of the 200,000 yuan in revenue, Meituan accounts for about 100,000 yuan. If it were a tip of about 20%, Meituan would receive 20,000 yuan in expenses. In this way, we would have a profit of 20,000 yuan per month. However, if Meituan's tips are increased to 25%, Meituan will receive 25,000 yuan. Our husband-and-wife shop will only have a little over 10,000 yuan left after more than a month of hard work. It's equivalent to us working hard for Meituan for a month.

So I made a decision to stop cooperating with Meituan and only cooperate with Ele.me. Unfortunately, Ele.me's market share in our city was too small, and the environment at the time was such that everyone relied on online traffic generation. If I did it purely offline, I would only be squeezed out by other restaurants. There was no other way. After working offline for two months, I obediently surrendered to Meituan and said goodbye to Ele.me.

However, in addition to promoting on Meituan, I also have official accounts on Douyin and Xiaohongshu, and I also do some daily marketing and promotion. What's pleasantly surprising is that Douyin's traffic is also very good, especially recently when Douyin restarted its local services business, providing a lot of support to merchants. They also find influencers to help merchants with free promotion and filming, which has allowed us to expand to a lot of new traffic. There is actually a certain cyclicality in Meituan's traffic, meaning that after a period of time, Meituan's traffic is difficult to convert. However, with Douyin's marketing, our traffic has become more stable.

If other platforms emerge later and can replace Meituan, we will not hesitate to abandon Meituan and choose other platforms, because Meituan's commission rate is just too harsh. However, in the short term, we still need to wait a certain amount of time.

If we use a popular term now, it means that the catering industry is also experiencing severe competition. Everyone was doing well before, but when Meituan came along, it seemed to expand everyone's living space, but in reality, it became even more difficult, and they received less money. The current catering industry is essentially about paying several rents, one offline rent and one online rent, and Meituan receives a considerable commission.

Being two-timing, let's talk about it once we're caught.

Awei | 32-year-old fast food restaurant owner in Beijing

I chose to leave the intriguing workplace, but starting my own business made me feel even more exhausted.

In the second half of 2020, I quit my job and opened a small fast food restaurant, not to make a lot of money, but just to live a more relaxed and comfortable life.

Fast food is chosen because of its low cost. You can open a shop in just a few square meters, without needing a chef, which is perfect for entrepreneurs like me who don't have much savings. According to the general trend in the industry, the majority of a fast food restaurant's revenue should be generated offline. However, due to limited start-up capital, I had to give up a good location when choosing a site, which inevitably made online my main business base.

From the beginning, I made up my mind that I wanted to join both Meituan and Ele.me platforms. The reason I am so certain is because I left the workplace once in 2019 and had the experience of partnering with others to start a business. Although it ended in failure, it also allowed me to experience the ability of the two major platforms, Meituan and Ele.me, to drive traffic to offline stores.

It was also at that time that I experienced Meituan's \"exclusive agreement\". So when I started my business this time, when the Meituan regional manager recommended \"Preferred Merchants\" to me, I knew that the previous \"exclusive agreement\" had just changed its \"guise\" and transformed into \"Preferred Merchants\", but the core condition of \"choosing one of two\" had not changed.

However, Meituan's lobbying efforts this time were not as strong as they were a year ago. A year ago, when we partnered with Meituan, the regional manager was very direct: \"We could only choose one of the two. Once we signed an exclusive agreement, we could no longer use Ele.me.\" In this conversation a year later, although the regional manager's meaning remained unchanged, his approach was much softer. He lobbied me step by step with various reasons such as \"high ranking\", \"order volume can be increased by half\", and \"low commission\" to make me a \"preferred merchant\".

I followed suit. On the one hand, I became Meituan's \"Preferred Merchant,\" and on the other hand, I wasn't left behind by Ele.me.

In fact, many businesses do this. It's not that we don't keep our promises, but that it's really difficult to run a small business, and besides, such \"unfair terms\" are unreasonable. Taking my fast food restaurant as an example, the store's daily turnover is more than 1,000 yuan, while the daily platform promotion fee is 200-300 yuan, and the labor, rent and utilities cost 800 yuan. Even if I join two platforms at the same time, I am still losing money every day. Labor, rent, utilities, and electricity are fixed costs, and promotion expenses cannot be reduced. If sales cannot increase in the early stages, it will be even more difficult to acquire customers online later. Left with no other option, we can only take an unconventional approach to minimize losses.

Even if they are still losing money, the changes in revenue are still significant after expanding their online business. Before entering the online platform, my fast food restaurant's daily turnover was only 200-300 yuan. After expanding its online business, its total online and offline turnover gradually increased, from four or five hundred yuan at the beginning to more than 1,000 yuan now.

I have a very honest colleague who honestly told Meituan that he had even joined Ele.me, but as a result, his \"Preferred Merchant\" status was revoked. His shop lost its recommendation advantage, but other merchants who also operated on two platforms insisted on the \"hidden rule.\" At lunchtime, the seven or eight ground-floor shops door to door were all \"yellow and blue\" and bustling with customers. Only his shop sporadically displayed a few touches of yellow. This forced the little sheep to become an old fox, and later he also learned to join two platforms.

As for the future, we can only take it one step at a time. If Meituan finds out, we will have to withdraw from the \"Preferred Merchant\" list. We would rather increase our promotion fees than give up another platform. I was still thinking of expanding the store into a chain store, but the problem is that I'm already losing money. When that time comes, it's hard to say how long I can last.

The first store signed an exclusive agreement

The second store decisively entered both platforms.

Da Mao | Small Bowl Vegetable Delivery Merchant

I was a witness to Meituan's \"choose one of two\" incident.

Three years ago, I joined a small bowl food delivery brand. The franchise fee, including site selection and initial labor investment, was about 100,000 yuan. At first, I joined both Ele.me and Meituan platforms. The franchise guide told me that if I operated it properly, I could break even and start making a profit in about 2-3 months.

The first two months of the business were a great start because the location was good, the food was delicious, and the variety of dishes was extensive, so the number of orders we received was increasing every day. Just as things were getting better and better, Meituan's business manager came to me and asked me to choose between Meituan and Ele.me. Furthermore, the other party threatened me that if I didn't make a choice, they would remove my shop from the shelves or move it to a remote location.

Because I was new to food delivery at the time, I was a little apprehensive about platforms and hoped they would recommend more of my stores, so I gritted my teeth and agreed. After I agreed, Meituan required me to sign an exclusive strategic cooperation agreement, requiring me to participate in Meituan's promotional activities unconditionally, and I agreed.

After closing the store on Ele.me, the number of orders received immediately dropped significantly. The original plan was to break even in 2-3 months, but it actually took four or five months to start making a profit. However, I've already made up my mind. I heard that those stores that didn't sign exclusive agreements with Meituan were really shut down for no reason.

Later, the voices of \"anti-monopoly\" grew louder and louder, and Meituan no longer dared to be openly \"domineering\". My shop has been running for more than two years, and it has gradually increased its revenue and reputation. So I plan to open another one in another commercial district. This time, when I opened a new store, Meituan's business manager didn't make me sign an exclusive agreement. He just told me the benefits of signing an exclusive agreement, such as lower commission points, and hoped that I could sign an exclusive agreement with Meituan.

In the past two years of working in the food delivery industry, I've noticed that many users are accustomed to choosing food delivery platforms. Although more people use Meituan, there are also quite a few Ele.me users, and many users are only used to using one platform. If I don't list my store on Ele.me, I will never be able to acquire these customers on the Ele.me platform. For this reason, I did not choose to sign an exclusive agreement this time, but instead added the new store to Ele.me.

Because I didn't sign an exclusive agreement, Meituan gave me a high commission, but compared to only working on Meituan's platform, even if the commission was increased, it was worth it.

Actually, operating on two platforms is more time-consuming, but I strongly resist being forced to stay on one platform. The choice of which platform to join or whether to join multiple platforms should be made by merchants based on their own needs, rather than making them cannon fodder for the platform's strong monopoly.
","source":"lsy1601869087353","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Four people who experienced it firsthand recount: My experience with Meituan's \"choose one of two\" situation.
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nFour people who experienced it firsthand recount: My experience with Meituan's \"choose one of two\" situation.\n
\n
\n
\n燃次元2021-04-27 15:30\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
By Zhu Xiaoyu and Feng Xiaoting

At 4:30 PM on April 26, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced on its official website that it had recently initiated an investigation into Meituan's suspected monopolistic practices, such as the \"choose one of two\" policy, based on a report.

Meituan's official Weibo account quickly responded, stating that today (April 26), Meituan received a notification from the State Administration for Market Regulation that it had launched an investigation into the company's suspected monopolistic practices.

\n
\n\n\n
,"home_visible":1,"media_name":"老虎资讯综合","id":"102","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1619098376,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1118443658?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-22 Billionaire asset manager Ron Baron and his many retired clients will tell you that this is absolutely not the case. Although these elderly people don't watch short videos much or use the latest conference call systems to work from home, they are not outdated—one of the main contributors to Barron's mutual funds' ability to provide them with an average annual return of 38% over the past five years is its heavy holding in Tesla.

Even after selling some Tesla stock, one of Barron's largest funds still allocates 41% of its funds to the stock of the electric vehicle giant, and he himself has almost become the world's number one Tesla bull. At the same time, Barron's own net worth has also increased significantly, almost doubling since March 2020.

Barron manages a total of seventeen funds, two of which are heavily invested in Tesla stock. For example, the $7.3 billion Baron Partners fund, managed by him and his son Michael Baron, returned nearly 150% last year. By the end of 2020, 47% of the fund's investments were concentrated in Tesla stock. Even though they realized some of their gains at the beginning of this year, the stock still accounted for as much as 41% of the fund as of the end of March.

The Baron Focused Growth fund, managed by Baron and another son, David Baron, has assets of $671 million and returned 122% last year. Tesla stock accounted for 39% of the fund's total assets at the end of 2020 and 32% at the end of the first quarter.

“Tesla is the most important investment of my career,” Barron said.

By the end of 2020, Barron's family had become Tesla's twelfth-largest shareholder. Among Tesla's top 50 institutional investors, the Barron's family accounts for the largest proportion of the stock's total portfolio, reaching 12%. In addition, notable major shareholders include Scotland's Baillie Gifford, who allocates 11% of her portfolio to Tesla stock, and Cathie Wood's ARK Invest, where Tesla accounts for 8.3% of her total portfolio.

Barron explained that he began building his position in Tesla stock in 2014, when the company had only been public for four years. In 2016, he further increased his holdings in Tesla, with a total investment of $387 million. After factoring in stock splits, the average cost was $43 per share. Since then, he has not added to his position. As Tesla's stock soared, reaching $750 per share by the end of last week, his clients naturally reaped substantial returns.

While the funds he managed performed brilliantly because of Tesla, Barron's own wealth also soared. According to Forbes estimates, Barron's net worth was $2.3 billion in March 2020 and has now reached $4.5 billion, largely thanks to Tesla stock, which has exploded by 728% in the past twelve months.

However, so far in 2021, the situation seems to be somewhat less than ideal. Although US stocks have had a good start overall, with investors becoming increasingly optimistic about the prospects for economic restart and recovery, and the market continuing to hit new highs, the pandemic has not truly passed and remains a worrying issue, while the fear of a sharp rise in inflation in the future is growing day by day.

After rising more than sevenfold last year, Tesla's stock price struggled in 2021, falling 8.5% in the first quarter alone. During the same period, the performance of Baron Partners and Baron Focused Growth funds was naturally dragged down, with quarterly returns of -0.44% and 0.02% respectively, far behind the 8% of the S&P 500 index.

However, the 78-year-old Barron is not concerned about this, as confident as ever and optimistic about the market prospects. “I believe in the long term,” he said. “I’m an optimist.”

This highly respected and renowned buy-and-hold investor founded his own investment management firm, Baron Capital, in 1982, with initial assets of just $10 million. In the decades that followed, his investments continued to perform strongly, especially in the 1990s and 2000s, when Barron's name became increasingly well-known thanks to his continued success in investing in small growth companies. Currently, his Baron Funds family manages approximately $52 billion in assets. These funds are really expensive: Baron Partners has an annual operating expense ratio of 2.22%, and Baron Focused Growth has an annual operating expense ratio of 1.35%. However, Barron's stock picking skills are indeed worth the price.

While many investors are now trying to predict how the US economy will develop, what policies Biden will release, or how interest rates will change, Barron's mind is completely different. He still insists on his seemingly tedious but effective methods. Barron's firm focuses on finding high-growth companies with long-term competitive advantages. \"Our expectation when we invested was that the value of this investment would double every five years in the future.\"

From this perspective, Tesla can be said to be the stock that best suits Barron's needs. This is certainly inseparable from its CEO Elon Musk, whose net worth is close to $180 billion, according to Forbes. “He might be the best engineer in the world,” Barron commented on Musk. “I estimate he will become the world’s first trillionaire.”

Before the coronavirus pandemic, Barron's hosted a grand party for investors and media every year in Manhattan, featuring top artists such as Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Jon Bon Jovi. Like many of Barron's fund clients, many of these investors are retired and have barely invested since the 1990s. It is completely unexpected that these people would end up so optimistic about a rising electric vehicle company and a CEO whose comments have always been accompanied by controversy.

In early March, Barron announced that his company had sold 1.9 million Tesla shares in the six months ending in February 2021, at an average price of $629.40. He did this to help his clients \"mitigate risk,\" because the stock already accounted for too much of their portfolio. Another reason for doing this is that Baron Partners uses leverage, and the proceeds from selling these shares can be used to pay off debts.

However, Barron's long-term bullish stance on Tesla remains unwavering. He still firmly believes that Tesla's stock price will rise to $2,000 within the next decade, which is nearly three times what it is now.

Barron said that although many people still call him \"Tesla Boy,\" he is actually very interested in SpaceX, Musk's rocket company that has not yet gone public. \"The company's eventual size could very well be comparable to Tesla's.\" Barron predicts that the investment in the company will yield a return of thirty or even fifty times over the next decade.

Currently, Barron's company has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in Musk's rocket company, which just completed a round of financing in February this year, bringing its valuation to $74 billion. Barron is particularly excited about the company's upcoming satellite broadband service, Starlink, which he believes will generate hundreds of billions in revenue in the future.

\"I really hope that in a few years, people will call me 'SpaceX Kid'.\"
","source":"tencent","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Musk will become the first trillionaire, and SpaceX's future is no less than Tesla's.
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nMusk will become the first trillionaire, and SpaceX's future is no less than Tesla's.\n
\n
\n
\n腾讯美股2021-04-20 22:15\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
“Musk is probably the best engineer in the world,” billionaire asset manager Ron Baron commented. “I estimate he will become the world’s first trillionaire.” Even though he has already sold some…TeslaIn stocks, one of Barron's largest funds still allocates 41% of its funds to the stocks of electric vehicle giants, and he himself has almost become the world's number one Tesla bull.
