Dow Jones01-21 01:33

By Joanna Sugden

The U.S. commerce secretary said that President Trump's tariffs had been good for global stock markets. "Everyone's said, 'You're going to do all these tariffs, you're going to destroy the world'," Howard Lutnick told an audience at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. "The world's stock markets are up, which ones of them? All of them."

Asked about Trump's ambition to take control of Greenland, Lutnick said that the Western Hemisphere was vital for the U.S. and that "when America shines, the world shines."

"They all need to make sure America is strong and powerful to take care of them," Lutnick said of U.S. allies.
