Greenland Tariff Tensions Damage European Equities Investment Case, Citi Says -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-20 17:49

0948 GMT - Renewed trans-Atlantic trade tensions over President Trump's bid to force a sale of Greenland will hurt European earnings, analysts at Citi write as they downgrade their outlook on Europe to neutral for the first time in over a year. "The latest step-up in trans-Atlantic tensions and tariff uncertainty dents the near-term investment case for European equities," the analysts says. Internationally exposed sectors like autos, chemical makers and travel companies will suffer particularly, with energy and utilities companies less affected, they add. The European-wide Stoxx 600 had its worst trading day since November on Monday, falling 1.2%. The fall continues as the index drops a further 1.3%. (josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)
