10-Year Treasury Yields Rise as Trade Tensions Heat Up -- Market Talk

Dow Jones01-20 14:17

0617 GMT - The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield has jumped past 4.25% on renewed tariff uncertainty and growing talk that Europeans could "weaponize" their U.S. assets to retaliate against Trump's aggressive trade and policies toward Greensland, says Ipek Ozkardeskaya, senior analyst at Swissquote. Europeans hold roughly $10 trillion in U.S. assets, which includes roughly $4 trillion in Treasurys and other bonds, she adds. Selling those assets would pull the rug from under U.S. markets. Because Trump is highly focused on Wall Street, it could get his attention. This would mean European investors--private and public--willingly accepting financial pain to punish the U.S., she says.
