CPI Report 'Sight of Relief' for a Fed Still Lacking Labor Data -- Market Talk

Dow Jones2025-10-24

0928 ET - September's inflation report "is a sigh of relief for the Fed and won't derail what is likely a second consecutive rate cut" next week, although inflation remains above the 2% target, Fitch's Olu Sonola writes. "As odd as it may seem, the Fed will be happy with inflation staying around 3% for the next couple of months." Sonola says the tariff passthrough "generally remains muted." Meanwhile, labor data are still missing, leaving markets to hope that the government shutdown will be over by the December monetary policy meeting and "the Fed has a clearer read on jobs," Sonola says.
