Industrials Down on Shutdown, Jobs Implications -- Industrials Roundup

Dow Jones10-02

Shares of industrial and transportation companies fell as traders weighed the implications of a government shutdown for defense and government contractors.

Some contract work is likely to pause during the period of the shutdown. Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Boeing lost some ground after government funding lapsed early Wednesday morning.

The White House and lawmakers failed to reach a spending deal, triggering a shutdown that will halt some federal services and put hundreds of thousands of federal workers on furlough.

Ford Motor, General Motors and other major carmakers are scrambling to unload lingering electric vehicles on dealer lots around the country, now that a $7,500 tax credit has expired.
