1141 ET - Intel's new CEO Lip-Bu Tan was perhaps the best of an extremely short list of candidates that could help potential customers in both major divisions give the company another look, say analysts at Melius Research in a research note. The beleaguered semiconductor company on Wednesday selected Tan, a former board member and longtime industry executive, as its new CEO. The analysts don't expect any changes to cost-cutting measures under way at Intel based on Tan's comments in a memo to employees. In it, the analysts believe Tan is talking about refocusing on GPUs and AI where he notes it's "behind the competition." Tan also said Intel needs to pick up the pace, a nod to his frustration at the slowness at the company that prompted him to leave the board. Shares rise 15%. (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
