Intel Shares Surge Premarket After CEO Appointment -- Market Talk

0927 GMT - Intel shares climb premarket after the chip maker appointed Lip-Bu Tan as its new chief executive. Intel stock closed 4.6% higher at $20.68 on Wednesday. Shares are up 9.9% Thursday premarket, touching a high of $22.98. Pat Gelsinger, the company's former CEO, retired abruptly in December as the chip maker lagged behind rivals like Nvidia in the AI race. Tan, the former CEO of Cadence Design Systems said he would seek to restore Intel's position in the semiconductor industry. (mauro.orru@wsj.com)
