CME to Launch 24/7 Trading for WTI Oil and Gold Futures

The Chicago Mercantile Group has unveiled its intention to facilitate continuous trading, operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week, for a new smaller crude oil futures product and its current gold futures contract.

As per the announcement, the new oil contract, which is designed to be one-tenth the size of the current Micro WTI futures, is scheduled to launch on August 30. The 24/7 trading for the one-ounce gold futures will commence earlier, starting on July 26. Both the oil and gold contracts, which are awaiting final regulatory approval, will be settled in cash and will be listed on the NYMEX and COMEX exchanges, respectively.

This strategic initiative follows the rising trend of non-stop trading on platforms like Hyperliquid, where trading activity in oil-related products has increased significantly amid volatile energy markets influenced by geopolitical tensions involving Iran. Previous reports indicated that both Intercontinental Exchange Inc. and the CME have been urging U.S. regulators to impose stricter oversight on such offshore trading venues.

Another major platform operating outside U.S. jurisdiction, Binance, has also recently initiated continuous commodity trading services around the clock.
