10/21 Strategy Preview | AI Is Running Hot — Earnings Will Set the Direction

① What Happened Today

AI compute demand is exploding, and tech stocks face a packed earnings test.

SMCI and SPCX beat expectations: SMCI pre-announced fiscal Q1 revenue with a midpoint of $19B, far above the market's $14.94B estimate. SPCX Q3 revenue grew 161% year over year and it raised next quarter's revenue guidance sharply. AI server and cloud compute demand is still strong, but high capex and margin pressure are still risks.

The semiconductor supply chain is strong: SMCI lifted DELL and HPE, and optical names CRDO and LITE also strengthened. SK Hynix finished a 40 trillion won buyback early and plans to cancel shares, which boosted memory chips, but this round of buyback buying is now over.

Musk signals a merger: Tesla and SpaceX have set up a committee to study a potential merger. The market may revalue TSLA's valuation and capital needs, but this is still just a study — don't treat the merger as a done deal.

Netflix under pressure after earnings: NFLX fell about 6%. Ad monetization is being questioned, and the market is watching whether user scale can really turn into revenue and profit.

Heavy earnings today: META, TSLA, LRCX, TXN, and IBM report. AI capex, ad growth, semiconductor equipment demand, and enterprise IT spending will be the after-close focus.

② What Money Is Betting On / Protecting Against

Buyers: Betting tech and semis stay strong

QQQ | 2026/10/22 722 Call$QQQ 20261022 722.0 CALL$
12,000 contracts | $3.852M traded | underlying at $717.60 when traded
Short-term call buying, betting the Nasdaq moves up fast. With only about two days to expiry, QQQ has to rise quickly to offset time decay. A bullish view doesn't mean the trade will make money.

QQQ | 2026/10/30 729 Call$QQQ 20261030 729.0 CALL$
6,838 contracts | $4.6156M traded | underlying at $718.40 when traded
Betting the Nasdaq moves higher by month-end, a different time frame from the short-dated 722 Call.

SOXL | 2027/01/15 120 Call$SOXL 20270115 120.0 CALL$
2,500 contracts | $3.7M traded | underlying at $99.07 when traded
Betting semis keep rising medium term. But SOXL is a 3x leveraged ETF, so swings and decay risk are higher than a normal ETF. The $120 strike also means it needs a big move to make real money.

INTC | 2028/06/16 80/135 Call bull spread
Buy 80 Call 23,500 contracts, about $82.438M traded; sell 135 Call 23,500 contracts, about $42.6055M traded. Both legs traded together — a bull call spread.
Money is willing to pay net premium to bet on INTC long-term upside, but selling the 135 Call lowers cost and gives up gains above $135. Based on the trade amounts, net cost is about $39.83M. Actual P&L still needs to be checked against fill prices, contract multipliers, and combo trade data.

Sellers: Collecting premium, some betting stocks hold support

QQQM | 2026/11/20 275 Put$QQQM 20261120 275.0 PUT$
7,583 contracts | $1.5318M traded | underlying at $296.81 when traded
Sellers bet the Nasdaq 100 ETF holds $275 before expiration. The strike is about 7.4% below the current price, but if the market drops fast, selling puts can still mean big losses.

META | 2026/11/20 575 Put$META 20261120 575.0 PUT$
2,100 contracts | $808.5K traded | underlying at $691.99 when traded
Sellers bet META won't fall much below $575, possibly reflecting relative optimism on medium-term downside. But META reports soon, and earnings gap risk can't be ignored.

CRWV | 2026/11/20 30 Put$CRWV 20261120 30.0 PUT$
41,300 contracts | $1.1151M traded | underlying at $58.07 when traded
Selling puts may be collecting premium, betting the stock holds $30. But while the system tag looks bullish, the real motive still needs to be confirmed with positions and other legs.

INTC | 2026/10/30 110 Call$INTC 20261030 110.0 CALL$
18,000 contracts traded, about $1.5M+.
This short-dated call sale may bet INTC can't break $110 by month-end. It sits alongside the long-term 80/135 call spread, suggesting money may be long-term bullish but doesn't expect a straight short-term spike.

Overall read: QQQ and SOXL bullish buying, plus some ETF and single-stock put selling, shows money is still willing to take some risk. But the QQQ 740 Call sell order, the INTC short-term 110 Call sell order, and today's heavy earnings show upside isn't resistance-free. Options trade direction doesn't equal full institutional positioning — don't judge the market from one big order.

③ What to Watch for Related Assets

QQQ | Watch $722, $729, $740. 722 and 729 are buyers' short- and medium-term targets; 740 has call selling. If the index keeps rising, watch whether buying can push a breakout. If the rally stalls, short-dated options can lose time value fast.

SOXL | Watch around $100 and the $120 strike. AI and semi equipment demand support the story, but 3x leverage amplifies drawdowns. Don't treat the long-dated Call as a guaranteed upside signal.

INTC | Watch $80, $110, $135. The 80/135 Call spread leans long-term bullish; the 110 Call sale shows possible short-term pressure. Different expiries — don't treat them as one strategy.

**META | After earnings, watch $650, $745, $750.** The $650–745 range from the source is a volatility reference; $750 is a strategy watch level, not confirmed technical support or resistance. If earnings show better ad efficiency and visible AI returns, the stock may be supported. If capex rises and monetization misses, watch downside.

TSLA | Watch $350, $380–400. $350 is the support reference from the source; $380–400 is the resistance zone. Robotaxi commercialization and capex returns will drive how the market values it. Musk's merger news may swings but can't replace fundamentals.

LRCX | Watch equipment demand and FY2027 guidance. AI is driving fab equipment investment. If management raises its WFE outlook, semi equipment stocks may be supported. If the market has already priced in optimism, even in-line results could trigger profit-taking.

TXN | Watch analog chip recovery and data center growth. The source forecasts Q3 revenue of $6.05B and EPS of $2.48, with data center growth expected at 73% and 75% year over year in Q3 and Q4. The key is whether actual results and guidance confirm the recovery.

IBM | Watch Q4 guidance. Q3 results are expected to roughly match consensus. The real test is enterprise IT spending, mainframe business, and AI monetization. If Q4 growth requirements are too high, upside may be limited.

SMCI / SPCX | Watch orders turning into revenue and capex. Strong guidance proves compute demand is hot, but revenue growth doesn't mean cash flow improves at the same time. SMCI's gross margin and SPCX's buildout spending and funding needs are key risk indicators.

④ What to Watch Pre-Market

AI compute chain: SMCI, SPCX, DELL, HPE, CRDO, LITE
Watch whether strong results spread to other supply chain names, especially gross margin, order delivery, and capex. If revenue surges but margins and cash flow are pressured, the stock reaction could shift from chasing to splitting.

Earnings core: META, TSLA, LRCX, TXN, IBM
META: ad revenue, AI investment returns, and capex.
TSLA: Robotaxi commercialization progress, cash flow, and capital needs.
LRCX: fab equipment spending and forward quarterly guidance.
TXN: analog chip demand recovery and data center growth.
IBM: software business, enterprise IT spending, and Q4 guidance.

Index and options: QQQ
Short-term bullish calls and the 740 Call sell order coexist. Watch whether the index has enough momentum to absorb upside supply. If earnings lift tech broadly, watch whether buyers' targets get hit step by step. If the market weakens after the news, short-dated options can lose value fast.

One-line read: AI earnings are pushing market expectations higher, but what really decides the next move isn't how bright revenue looks — it's whether profit, cash flow, and forward guidance can keep up. Heavy earnings today: watch guidance before chasing, and if you buy short-term options, guard against time decay.
