Coffee Chats by Trade to Win — Event Highlights | 19 Oct
On 19 October, 38 participants gathered for Coffee Chats by Trade to Win to explore trading strategies, risk management and trader psychology through speaker sessions and group discussions.
A. US Market and AI Outlook by James
James shared his outlook for US equity and bond markets, examining the relationship between AI capital expenditure, long-term Treasury yields and equity valuations. He also discussed potential risks in the AI industry, including debt financing and excess infrastructure capacity.
Amid the enthusiasm for AI, he emphasised the importance of assessing companies’ cash flow, balance sheets and profitability, rather than making investment decisions based solely on popular themes.
B. Options Strategies and Risk Management by Mr Quek
Drawing on his own options trading experience, Mr Quek discussed four key decisions: underlying selection, strategy structure, position sizing and exit planning.
He stressed the importance of setting risk management and exit rules before entering a trade, while accounting for liquidity and trading costs. He also highlighted how short-term gains, losses and emotions can influence judgement and lead traders to deviate from their original strategy.
C. Trading Psychology and Group Discussions
The session also explored trading psychology and discipline, with an emphasis on evaluating the quality of trading decisions rather than judging performance solely by the profit or loss of an individual trade.
During the group discussions, participants explored different trading scenarios, exchanged options strategies and risk management approaches, and shared practical trading experiences, bringing ideas from the session into the discussion.
Thank you to everyone who joined and shared their perspectives. 🙌
We look forward to seeing you at the next Coffee Chats!☕
