Weekly Options Strategy Preview | Bottoming Out or More Downside?

1. This Week's Market Overview

US stocks face a triple test: hotter inflation, pressure on AI financing, and earnings that need to prove the story. September CPI rose to 3.7%, and higher oil prices made the market rethink Fed rate-hike risk. Meanwhile, funding costs for AI cloud companies like CoreWeave are climbing. Investors are starting to ask: can huge AI spending actually turn into enough revenue and profit?

Semiconductors fell for eight straight days, showing money is rethinking the growth premium on AI hardware. But the market isn't fully bearish: companies with AI platforms and ways to make money from products, like META and GOOGL, still have bright spots. Money is also moving into defensive sectors like healthcare.

The key this week isn't whether AI demand exists. It's whether AI demand can produce real profit, and whether semiconductors can stop falling and attract money again. Tesla, Meta, and several semiconductor companies report earnings soon, and NVIDIA's GTC event will be an important window for the market to test the AI investment story.

2. This Week's Event Calendar

Tuesday, Oct 20: NVIDIA GTC in Berlin (Oct 20–22). Watch for new architecture, enterprise AI, robotics, and European data center demand. NFLX and SPCX report earnings.

Wednesday, Oct 21: Jensen Huang gives the keynote. Watch AI compute demand and commercialization outlook. TSLA, META, and LRCX report earnings.

Thursday, Oct 22: WDC and BE report earnings. Watch cloud storage demand, hard drive pricing, and equipment spending.

Keep watching all week: US inflation and oil price changes, AI company funding costs, earnings guidance, and whether money keeps rotating from tech into defensives.

3. Events and Volatility Watch

SPY | Negative Gamma environment, watch if the pullback grows
Closed at 763.25, below the 60-day average of 765.49, still above the 20-week line of 757. This week's implied range is 751–776, IV 19.9%, 75.3% historical percentile. The price is below the Gamma flip point of 773.29, in negative Gamma territory, so moves can get bigger. Call wall 770, Put wall 769 — they're close. Watch for faster drops if support breaks.

This week: first see if 769–770 can be reclaimed. 753 is an important downside reference. If it breaks, watch whether it moves toward the lower end of the 751 range.

QQQ | Tech still weak, guard against more downside
Closed at 709.80, below the 120-day average of 731 and the 20-week line of 718. This week's implied range is 691–729, IV 27.25%, 73.7% historical percentile. Price is below the Gamma flip point of 729, in negative Gamma territory. Put wall 710, biggest negative Gamma 705, so short-term downside swings still need guarding.

This week: can it hold 710 again? 705 is the key downside reference. If tech earnings guidance is weak, watch the lower end of the 691 range.

NVDA | Can GTC rebuild AI confidence?
Closed at 214.13, near the 60-day average of 214.50 and the 20-week line of 214. This week's implied range is 205–223, IV 45.96%, 72.9% historical percentile. Price is slightly below the Gamma flip point of 215, in negative Gamma territory. Put wall 215, Call wall 225, biggest negative Gamma 205. The market needs GTC to send positive signals on demand and commercialization.

This week: can it hold 215? 225 is an important upside watch level. If it breaks 205, watch whether downside swings grow.

TSLA | Earnings must prove the high valuation can hold
Q3 deliveries beat 486k vehicles, and energy storage hit 13.7GWh. But auto gross margin, free cash flow, and Robotaxi commercialization are still the focus. This week's implied range is 328–381, IV 51.65%, 64.54% historical percentile. Price at 354.72 is slightly above the Gamma flip point of 354.37. Call wall 365, Put wall 360, both above the current price, so short-term back-and-forth is still possible.

This week: can 360–365 be reclaimed and held? Watch 332.5, the biggest negative Gamma level, on the downside. Earnings guidance matters more than hype.

META | AI products have bright spots, capex is the test
Muse has over 8.6 million downloads. AI recommendations and ad monetization are the main growth drivers. But 2027 capex is estimated at $209B, and the return on that investment still needs proof. This week's implied range is 657–762, IV 46.28%, 89.64% historical percentile. Price at 709.33 is below the Gamma flip point of 726.64, in negative Gamma territory. 750 is where Call and Put walls overlap. 692.5 is the biggest negative Gamma level.

This week: can earnings prove ad growth is enough to support AI spending? 726.64 is the turn-strong watch level. 692.5 is the downside risk reference.

SPCX | High-volatility space and AI growth story
Stock at 146.03, above the 60-day average of 142.50, below the 10-week line of 148.66. This week's implied range is 133–159, IV 64.44%, 77.67% historical percentile. Price is below the Gamma flip point of 150.50, in negative Gamma territory. Call wall 155, Put wall 148, biggest negative Gamma 137. The market is watching Starship reuse, Starlink expansion, and AI business monetization. But long-term valuation guesswork isn't the same as actual profit.

This week: can 148–150.5 be reclaimed? Watch 137 on the downside. Cash burn and revenue mix in earnings are worth watching.

SKHY | Under pressure after listing, watch 135 support
Closed at 136.49, below the 60-day average of 166, near the post-listing low of 124.8. This week's implied range is 127–146, IV 68.57%, 48.53% historical percentile. Price is below the Gamma flip point of 139.34, in negative Gamma territory. Put wall 135, Call wall 155, biggest negative Gamma 127.

This week: can 135 hold? 139.34 is the turn-strong watch level. If it breaks 135, watch whether it moves toward 127.

4. Institutional Big Order Tracker: What Is Money Betting On, Protecting Against?

Here are 8 representative trades. Options big orders can be directional bets, hedges, or combo trades. You can't judge whether institutions are bullish or bearish from buy/sell direction alone.

① [Buyer] QQQ | 2026/11/06 695 Put$QQQ 20261106 695.0 PUT$
5,000 contracts | about $3.675M traded | stock at 720.07 when traded
Buying Nasdaq puts to prepare for a possible tech pullback during November earnings.
Money is guarding against: tech valuation correction, earnings misses.
Key level: 695 is the strike. With QQQ at 709.80 and this week's implied lower bound at 691, watch whether downside risk grows.

② [Buyer] QQQ | 2026/12/31 700 Put$QQQ 20261231 700.0 PUT$
5,000 contracts | about $8.575M traded | stock at 722.68 when traded
Combined with the November put, about $12.25M traded. Shows demand for downside protection that spans earnings season and extends to year-end.
Money is guarding against: tech pullback continuing into year-end.
Key level: 700 is the strike. If QQQ breaks 705 and keeps weakening, watch downside pressure.

③ [Buyer] TLT | 2026/11/30 85 Call$TLT 20261130 85.0 CALL$
Main big order opened 170k contracts | about $3M traded
Money bought Treasury ETF calls, betting bond prices bounce by end of November. But hotter inflation and rising rate-hike expectations could hurt this trade short term.
Money is betting on: rates falling later, bond prices recovering.
Key level: 85 is the target strike. If Treasury yields keep rising, this trade could face both wrong direction and time decay. Source notes trades may be double-counted.

④ [Buyer] GLD | 2026/12/18 405 Call$GLD 20261218 405.0 CALL$
6,000 contracts | about $4.08M traded | stock at 382.02 when traded
Buying gold ETF calls, possibly reflecting demand for safety amid macro uncertainty.
Money is betting on: gold rising further.
Key level: 405 is the strike. A weaker dollar and safe-haven demand could support it, but if rate expectations rise again, gold could also come under pressure.

⑤ [Buyer] TSLA | 2027/04/16 430 Call$TSLA 20270416 430.0 CALL$
3,999 contracts | about $10.9573M traded | stock at 373.19 when traded
Long-dated bullish trade betting Tesla still has upside medium to long term. But 430 was about 15% above the stock price at the time, and the expiry is long, so time and volatility matter.
Money is betting on: Robotaxi, FSD, robots, and other long-term growth stories.
Key level: 430 is the strike. Short term, first watch whether earnings can support the stock holding 360–365.

⑥ [Seller] TSM | 2027/01/15 400 Put$TSM 20270115 400.0 PUT$
9,218 contracts | about $12.4443M traded | stock at 431.49 when traded
Selling puts to collect premium, betting TSMC won't fall much below 400 long term.
Money is betting on: AI chip demand and revenue growth supporting the stock.
Key level: 400 is the strike. But gross margin below market expectations is a reminder that demand growth doesn't always mean profit improves at the same time. Sellers can still face assignment or bigger losses.

⑦ [Seller] SOXL | 2026/11/20 120 Call$SOXL 20261120 120.0 CALL$
19,000 contracts | avg price $11 | trade amount not provided
Sellers collect premium, betting SOXL can't break 120 before expiration. Shows some doubt about short-term semiconductor upside.
Money is betting on: semiconductor bounce staying limited or unable to break out fast.
Key level: 120 is the strike. SOXL is a 3x leveraged ETF, so swings are bigger. Don't treat it like a regular semiconductor stock.

⑧ [Seller] AMD | 2026/11/20 440 Put$AMD 20261120 440.0 PUT$
15,000 contracts | avg price $4.4 | trade amount not provided
Sellers collect premium, betting AMD holds 440 before expiration, or are willing to take assignment at that price.
Money is betting on: AMD won't fall much below 440.
Key level: 440 is the strike. If AI capex and semiconductor demand outlook weaken, put-selling risk rises clearly.

5. This Week's Strategy Preview: First See If It Stops Falling, Then See What Takes the Lead

The market: in negative Gamma, don't rush to buy the dip
SPY is below its Gamma flip point, and QQQ is far below its flip point. Both are in negative Gamma territory. That means if the market moves one way, swings can get bigger.

Bullish conditions: SPY holds 769–770 again, QQQ reclaims 710, and semiconductors stop falling.
Bearish conditions: QQQ breaks 705, SPY breaks 753, and tech selling spreads.
Approach: Wait for key levels to confirm. Don't assume it's the bottom just because the stock has fallen a lot.

Semiconductors: the most important follow-through watch this week
Your expectation is reasonable: semis have fallen several days in a row, so it's worth watching whether they can stop falling. But the size of the drop alone doesn't confirm support is real.

This week, watch whether NVDA can get back to 215 and hold 205, and whether LRCX and WDC earnings show equipment and storage demand are still holding up. If semis stop falling and guidance improves, that could help tech stabilize. If they keep falling, watch out for the market losing its new leading sector.

Earnings stocks: separate real growth from valuation hopes
TSLA: Deliveries are just the start. Auto gross margin, cash flow, and Robotaxi progress are the real earnings focus. Roadster news is more of a long-term tech story and shouldn't replace financial data.
META: Watch whether ad revenue growth can support AI capex. More Muse usage is a positive sign, but downloads don't equal realized revenue.
NVDA: If GTC strengthens compute demand expectations, it helps steady market confidence. But what really matters is whether demand keeps turning into orders and profit.

Options strategy: high IV doesn't mean it's good for sellers
IV historical percentiles for SPY, QQQ, NVDA, TSLA, and META are all high, meaning the market is pricing in bigger moves.

Buyers should note: Even if you get the direction right, you can still lose money from time decay or falling volatility.
Sellers should note: Higher premium doesn't mean lower risk. If the stock keeps falling one way, selling puts can lead to big losses.
Beginners should focus on position size and max acceptable loss first. Avoid heavy one-direction bets before earnings.

6. Risk Notes

Macro risk: CPI, oil prices, and Treasury yields can change rate expectations and squeeze valuations on high-growth stocks.
Earnings risk: Even if results beat, the stock can fall if future guidance is weak.
Options risk: Implied ranges are market-pricing estimates, not guaranteed price limits. Gamma levels and big-order intent can change with the market.
Data limits: Some big orders here don't include trade amount or timing, so capital strength can't be directly compared. Macro data and forecasts from different sources may also differ.
