$Applied Optoelectronics(AAOI)$ AAOI's expansion is worth putting into perspective, since a lot of people post without doing any research. Here's a summary.
Capital raised: roughly $1.88 billion gross, or $1.84 billion net, over the past 12 months through equity offerings.
Money already deployed: around $660.2 million in documented 2026 capital spending. That includes $633.5 million in the first half, with $289.7 million in equipment and other prepayments, plus a $26.8 million cash purchase of FAB3 in September. This subtotal does not capture all additional spending since June.
Global footprint: using the 2024 annual report as the entering-2025 baseline, AAOI listed approximately 914,000 square feet globally. Current disclosures bring its existing facilities and contracted expansion footprint to roughly 5.17 million square feet. That's about 5.7 times the starting footprint, a 466% increase, or roughly 4.26 million additional square feet.
Texas alone totals approximately 2.72 million square feet, including 1.83 million at Hightower: 736,216 square feet in Phase I and 1,093,807 in Phase II. Hightower alone is approximately twice AAOI's entire global footprint listed in the 2024 annual report. These properties are included in, not additional to, the global total.
The expanded footprint includes contracted future-build space, not just facilities already producing, and that future manufacturing platform is central to the growth opportunity. Capital raised, cash deployed, and property commitments show the scale of preparation. Equipping, qualifying, and ramping those facilities is how that preparation can translate into future production, revenue, and earnings.
