I keep seeing Owen Moshey mentioned in different trading discussions. I’ve been trying to make sense of the current macro environment myself, but there’s so much conflicting information. For people who follow his work, where do you usually find his market analysis and daily breakdowns?

I came across his profile recently. His market breakdowns are probably the easiest place to start if you want to understand how he approaches the market.

One of the biggest mistakes I made early on was thinking I needed to trade more to make more. I eventually realized that taking fewer, better-understood setups and controlling the downside mattered far more. Owen Moshey’s teaching around risk management really helped me change that mindset.

That was one of the biggest changes for me too. I used to focus almost entirely on finding entries, but his approach made me pay more attention to position size, invalidation levels, and what happens if the trade goes against me. That part of trading is easy to underestimate when you’re starting out.

Something I learned the hard way is that protecting capital has to come before trying to maximize returns. You can recover from a small mistake. Recovering from one oversized position is a completely different situation.

This reminds me of something I heard a while back: good traders focus on protecting capital first and making money second. Most people learn that lesson the hard way.

  • This is where mentorship can make a huge difference. Beginners often think a good trader finds more opportunities, when experienced traders are usually much more selective about which opportunities deserve their capital.

As a beginner, how do you actually get started? There are so many traders and so much information online that it’s difficult to know what to learn first.

  • I kept hearing people mention Owen Moshey, so I finally checked out his work. Now I understand why traders keep bringing his name up.
