The headline says U.S. payrolls added 162K jobs in August, but the details tell a more complicated story: food services and local-government education drove much of the gain, while information employment fell 23K.
That’s why I’d trust labor-market details and the bond market together more than the headline index alone. A strong NFP doesn’t automatically mean the economy is accelerating across the board. At the same time, rising long-term yields can signal inflation and fiscal concerns that equities may temporarily overlook.
For me, the key is the divergence beneath the surface—exactly where the next market signal may appear.
