The Catalyst Test Every Investor Should Ask Before Buying a Stock
A stock can have a great chart, a cheap valuation and a convincing setup. But if there’s nothing on the calendar capable of changing the story, I’m usually not interested.
For me, the first question is simple:
What is the catalyst? 👀
Earnings. A new product. A management change. A major contract. A sector tailwind. A macro event. Even an unexpected development can do it.
The key is that it needs to be clear, meaningful and close enough to matter.
A chart can show you what has happened. It can’t create a reason for buyers to suddenly care.
That’s an easy filter for cutting out random positions. Before opening a trade, ask yourself:
👉 What gets this stock out of bed and moving?
If you can’t answer that clearly, you may be trying to manufacture a trade where there simply isn’t one.
If the setup doesn’t get you excited as an investor, don’t expect the stock to suddenly get excited on the chart. 📈
When markets keep you watching, knowing when to switch off matters too.
A strong U.S. jobs report has put rates back in focus, with this week’s CPI data set to be another key market mover — keeping overnight trading firmly on investors’ radar. But investing is a long game, and you don’t have to watch every move. The new Night Trading Dollar Eye Mask is soft, lightweight and comfortable, made for quick breaks between market moves, power naps or long-haul travel — so you can switch off, recharge and come back ready for what’s next.
