Tencent Earnings Preview: Can AI Newcomer WorkBuddy Become the Next Growth Engine?

Tencent will release its Q2 earnings report before the U.S. market opens on Wednesday. According to analyst forecasts, Tencent’s revenue for the second quarter of 2026 is expected to reach ¥202.843 billion, representing a 12.7% year-over-year increase, while adjusted earnings per share (EPS) is projected at ¥7.464. $TENCENT(00700)$

In terms of valuation, Tencent’s current price-to-earnings ratio stands at 16.95, placing it at a relatively low level compared with the past five years.

In terms of revenue breakdown, Tencent’s business mainly consists of four key segments: Value-Added Services, Games (including domestic games, international games, and social networks), Marketing Services, and FinTech & Business Services. Value-Added Services continue to serve as Tencent’s largest revenue engine, while Marketing Services has consistently delivered robust growth.

Tencent’s AI product WorkBuddy, launched in March, saw its monthly visits surge to 20.97 million as of June, surpassing ByteDance’s Trae and Alibaba’s QoderWork to become the most popular AI office assistant in China.

Barclays analysts noted that Tencent became their top pick for the first time in five years. Morningstar analysts believe WorkBuddy is the preferred choice for investors looking at Tencent’s AI strategy, as its integration with the WeChat ecosystem gives it stronger user stickiness and makes it harder to replace compared with competing products.

If WorkBuddy delivers strong performance data, it could further boost market confidence in Tencent’s AI growth prospects.
