The "Untouchable" Nightmare 🚩

Is there anything more exhausting than managing "The Untouchable Employee"?

My boss  handed me his favourite employee to manage, saying she’ll be helping me with my workload.

You know the one. 20+ years of experience, a toxic temper, and a direct line to the big bosses that makes her feel invincible.

I’ve been trying to lead this "expert" with total respect for 3 months. I gave her space, I didn't micro-manage, and I spent my days being the "cushion" between her and the team she yells at.

But let’s talk about the reality of "expertise" :

❌ The Manual Trap: She claims to be "so busy," but it’s because she refuses to automate manual data entry. She doesn't know how to use power automate, power BI, Microsoft Lists etc. But she remembers things with almost superhuman accuracy.

❌ The Gossip: She makes comments about my clothes and keeps trying to "matchmake" me with her son. 🙄

I’ve met his son before — looks okay, but I don’t think I could survive having a mother-in-law like that.

❌ The Gaslighting: She tells me I have "special privileges" because the bosses look for me. Please lah! They look for me because I’m fixing the fires she starts.

❌ The Audacity: Yesterday, I offered to help her. She didn’t collaborate—she dumped the entire project on my desk and walked away.

I set up a WhatsApp group for smoother communication. When the team checked with her about some documents, she got angry, quit the group, and complained to the boss that she was being bullied. The boss called me repeatedly during my meeting. I was angry, but I kept my cool to prevent the issue from escalating as I know my boss as no real interest in resolving the issue.

I went from being her Superior to being her Maid. 🧹

This  "High Performer" with a bad attitude isn't an asset. She destroys team morale, alienate colleagues, and require a full-time "mediator" just to function, I think she's a liability.

But when the bosses favour her, im stuck in a loop of protecting someone who wouldn't hesitate to throw me under the bus
