IBKR Pulls Back After Earnings Pop, Holding Bullish Trend Within $68–$74 Range
$Interactive Brokers(IBKR)$
$70.69 (−3.27%): Earnings-pop cools in a healthy retest, bulls eye $68–74 consolidation band
Market Recap
Interactive Brokers closed at $70.69, down 3.27% on the day, on volume (~4.8M) running below its ~6.5M average – a controlled pullback rather than panic.
The stock is still up about 60% YTD and trades only ≈4.3% below its 52-week high near $73.85, keeping it firmly in an uptrend channel.
Recent results highlighted robust account growth, net interest income tailwinds from higher rates, and continued strength in options/futures activity, but the post-earnings pop invited some profit-taking around prior resistance.
Technical Analysis
Technically, price remains above the rising 20-day EMA (~$68.95) and 50-day EMA (~$66.85), so the primary trend is still bullish even after today’s red candle.
MACD is positive (MACD ≈0.98, signal ≈0.76, histogram ≈0.22) and curling back up, while RSI ~56 sits in constructive, non-overbought territory – together with sub-average volume this favors a sideways-to-up bias over the next week in roughly the $68–$74 zone.
If you overlay a standard Parabolic SAR, the dots would typically remain below price in this configuration, keeping trend-followers long as long as $68 holds; a break below $66 would warn of a deeper mean reversion toward $63–$61.
On valuation, IBKR’s TTM P/E around 35 stands above the S&P 500’s ~mid-20s and above its own historical mid-20s range, but consensus 12-month targets near $76–$78 (Yahoo 1-yr est. ≈$76.6) still imply moderate upside if earnings momentum persists.
Near-term, I’d frame a working target band at $75–$80, with Resistance at the prior high $73.5–$74 and Support layered at $68 / $66 / $63.
