My initial RGTI position was acquired around $9 about a year ago through assignments from expired cash-secured puts. Since then, I’ve been actively managing the position with covered calls — especially during the April market pullback — as a way to hedge against downside risk.
Eventually, all my shares were called away below $20 when the stock broke through my covered call strikes. Since then, I’ve been looking to rebuild the position, but the entire quantum computing sector has surged sharply, with RGTI more than doubling from my previous exit level.
Rather than chase the rally, I’ve stayed disciplined — selling cash-secured puts well below the current market price to take advantage of elevated implied volatility. The rich option premiums make even far out-of-the-money strikes worthwhile.
For now, I’m content collecting steady premium income while waiting to see if the upcoming earnings report can justify the sector’s explosive move. Until then, I’m happy letting the puts expire out of the money and keeping the cash flow coming.
