Monday Funday: Stocks Extend the Everything Rally
U.S. stocks started the week the same way they ended the last one, at record highs.
-
Dow Jones Industrial Average: +0.14% to 46,381.54
-
$S&P 500(.SPX)$ : +0.44% to 6,693.75
-
$NASDAQ(.IXIC)$ : +0.70% to 22,788.98
Stocks
That marked the Dow’s 7th record close of 2025, the S&P 500’s 28th, and the Nasdaq’s 29th. The “everything rally” extended beyond equities, with gold hitting a new high and bonds and cryptocurrencies strengthening as well.
Eyes on Inflation and Housing
Markets are largely moving on anticipation this week. The PCE Price Index, the Fed’s preferred inflation measure, lands Friday. Last week’s quarter-point rate cut helped ease pressure, but sticky inflation could limit how many cuts are still to come.
Housing data could also grab attention. The Census Bureau reports new home sales Wednesday, and the NAR releases existing-home sales Thursday. Speculation is swirling that the White House could soon declare a national housing emergency.
Argentina in Focus
Beyond U.S. data, the Argentine debt crisis is drawing Washington’s attention. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent hinted at possible U.S. intervention, saying “all options are on the table” to support President Javier Milei’s government. He and President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet with Milei Tuesday in New York during the U.N. General Assembly.
Skeptics note that IMF lending often delays problems rather than solving them, and any U.S. support could risk history repeating itself.
