Xiaomi's YU7 vs Tesla's Model Y - Can Xiaomi Power A USD 200 billion Breakout?

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸXiaomi $XIAOMI-W(01810)$  $Xiaomi Corp.(XIACY)$  $Xiaomi HK SDR 2to1(HXXD.SI)$ isn't just launching a car.  It is launching a new era.  With the YU7 SUV poised to challenge Tesla $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$  Model Y and its ADRs nearing USD 34, investors are asking - Can this EV push finally propel Xiaomi past the USD 200 billion mark?

But the real story runs deeper.  Xiaomi's dominance in smartphones and its IoT empire maybe the hidden horsepower behind this valuation surge.  With Hong Kong shares recently breaking the HKD 60 mark, the big question looms -  Is it time to take profit or buckle up for the next leg?

YU7 versus Model Y - The EV Showdown

Price Advantage - YU7 starts at RMB 253,500 (USD 35,300) undercutting the Model Y by RMB 10,000.

Performance - YU7 Max hits 0 to 100 km/hr in 3.23 secs, quicker than Model Y's 3.7 secs.

Top Speed is 253 km/hr vs Tesla's 250 km/hr

Power Output is 618 hp vs Tesla's 534 hp.

Battery Capacity is 101.7 kWh vs Tesla's 82 kWh.

Range is 760 km vs Tesla's 533 km.

Autonomous Driving - Xiaomi uses LiDar and Nvidia Thor plus 11 cameras and 12 sensors.   Tesla uses Tesla Vision and 8 cameras.

The Verdict

The Xiaomi YU7 is faster, smarter and more luxurious.  It is a bold, feature rich challenger that blends Xiaomi's tech DNA with EV ambition.  However Tesla Model Y counters with a longer track record, global service infrastructure and established software.

If Xiaomi can scale production, maintain high quality and expand internationally, the YU7 could be a serious disruptor, not just in China but globally as well.

Xiaomi's Smartphone Supremacy

Xiaomi is positioned as Number 3 globally with 40.8 million units shipped in 2024.  Xiaomi is also the best selling mobile phone brand in China in Q1 25 with almost 19% market share.  Xiaomi's premium mobile phone, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra sales is up 90% year over year.

IoT Empire - The Silent Growth Engine

943.7 million connected devices (phones and tablets)

IoT revenue is up 58.7% in Q1 25 year over year to RMB 32.3 billion.

Mi Home App - 106.4 million MAUs, AI Assistant - 146.7 million users.

Xiaomi Valuation and Market Pulse

Q1 25 Net Income is RMB 10.7 billion up 64.5% year over year.

EV revenue is RMB 18.6 billion, YU7 demand is already 3 times that of Xiaomi SU7.

Xiaomi hit a 52 week high of HKD  61.35 recently but has since retraced slightly.

Wall Street Analysts are bullish on Xiaomi with 27 Buy ratings and the average Target price of HKD 68.92, according to Tipranks.

Singapore Xiaomi SDR - Why It Matters to Singaporeans

Launched in March 2025 on SGX under ticker code $Xiaomi HK SDR 2to1(HXXD.SI)$

2:1 ratio -  2 SDRs = 1 Xiaomi Hong Kong share

Lower entry cost - Invest from SGD 600 vs SGD 3000 equivalent for Hong Kong shares.

SGD denominated - No foreign exchange risk, no cross border settlement hassle.

Thematic exposure - AI, EVs and IoT - All in 1 stock.

Concluding Thoughts

Xiaomi is no longer just a phone maker.  It has transformed into a multi engine growth machine.  The YU7 may make the headlines but the real horsepower of Xiaomi lies in its smartphone dominance, iOT scale and now its accessibility via Singapore SDRs.

For Singapore investors, HXXD offers a bite sized SGD denominated way to tap into one of Asia's most dynamic tech companies.

If Xiaomi executes well on exports and EV margins, USD 200 billion could just be the next checkpoint.  For tactical traders, consider trimming near HKD 60.  For long term believers, this may just be the ignition point.
