What's Your Smartest or Dumbest Way You Made Money in Stocks?
Everyone loves to talk DD and technicals. But let’s be real, sometimes it’s just dumb luck, gut instinct, or pure madness that wins. So what’s your most unexpected market win?
The YOLOs that hit, the meme stocks that printed, or the trades that made zero sense but somehow paid off—drop them below.
Let’s see who got lucky… and who’s just built different.
Some people just seem born lucky. Even when they buy the wrong stock, they still strike gold.
One netizen shared his story:
he meant to buy shares of Tim Hortons, thinking the ticker was “TIM.” Turns out, he accidentally bought a mining stock instead. Fast forward two months, they checked their account and the $2,000 investment had turned into $42,000.
Why? The company had discovered a new rare earth deposit and the stock exploded.
He came another YOLO: they aped into $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ , and just before the 2020 crash, he went all-in on $ProShares UltraPro Short QQQ(SQQQ)$. After cashing out big on both, he rolled into $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ in 2021 and sold at $120.
At this point, it’s like the market is chasing hime down with bags of money. People in the comments are begging to know: “What’s your next pick?”
Meanwhile, $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ has been hitting new highs lately, and someone even shared that Palantir turned them into a millionaire in just 8 months.

Smart Investing to me means Starting Early and Staying Consistent. Time in the market beats timing the market. Compound growth works magic when given time.
Smart Investing means Having a plan such as knowing my goal which is FIRE - Financial Independence Retire Early and my risk tolerance before even buying a single share.
Smart Investing means staying emotionally disciplined. Smart Investing means staying calm, thinking long term and not getting rattled by the noise.
Smart Investing also means automating good habits through dollar cost averaging.
So while getting started is important, combining that with Knowledge, Strategy and Emotional Control - That is where Smart Investing Is All About - True Brilliance!

I would say the most impressive one is UOB. At 8.30am, I started calculating the price that I wanted to queue. [LOL][Happy][Smile][Chuckle]. Then I went off to attend a meeting & mute my phone. At 10.30am, after meeting, I checked my phone n I hitted the jackpot - the lowest price of UOB for the day. 😂🤭.
Ascott is the stock where I didn’t want to queue too long for it as I think I can easily earn back $50. Moreover, saving that $50 might not guarantee that I can get my units when I look at the market depth.
As for OCBC, there is a saying what goes up must come down. Don’t FOMO. Whatever is yours, it will be yours. I missed the opening price. After 2hrs of monitoring, my gut feel told me that the boat has returned. Hence I started to queue for it. 1.5hrs before closure, I got my units. It ended higher. [USD][Love]🍀🍀
guess mine was buying on impulse... $ComfortDelGro(C52.SI)$ was trading low previously and everytime when it gets lower, I bought without knowing what I was doing... until when I realised... I was like [OMG] [OMG] [OMG] and I panicked and [Bless] [Bless] [Bless] that it would trend up soon... luckily it did... I can sleep well since then [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]
