Artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic is on the cusp of a massive valuation leap, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, the Journal reported that Anthropic is in advanced talks to secure $2 billion in funding, propelling the company's valuation to a staggering $60 billion.
This news comes amidst fierce competition within the AI space.
Venture capital firm Lightspeed Venture Partners is spearheading the funding round, a significant vote of confidence in Anthropic's potential.
Notably, Anthropic's valuation has nearly tripled since its last funding round in 2024, which valued the company at $18 billion and was led by Menlo Ventures.
Anthropic has not yet responded to a request for comment, but the company's close ties with e-commerce giant Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) are a clear indicator of its ambitions.
Amazon, a major player in the race for AI dominance, doubled its investment in Anthropic late last year, bringing its total stake to $8 billion.
