The company's revenue and earnings fell significantly thanks to the declining prices of memory chips stemming from an oversupply in the industry. The company's guidance indicates that things are about to get worse because memory prices are expected to fall further, which could eat into the chipmaker's massive pile of cash. That's the reason why Micron has decided to lower its capital spending by over 30% in the new fiscal year. But shortly after, the company announced a massive investment of up to $100 billion in central New York. The chipmaker plans to spend this money over a 20-year period to construct a massive fabrication plant. Micron says that the first phase of this investment -- worth $20 billion -- could be completed by 2030. Construction of the site is expected to begin in 2024 and production from the new plant should start ramping up in the second half of the decade.Investors, however, may be wondering why Micron made such an announcement at a time when the weak demand for memory chips and oversupply has crushed prices and wrecked the company's top and bottom lines. We'll have to look at the memory market's long-term prospects to find the answer to that question.Micron Technology is playing the long gameThe decline in sales of personal computers and smartphones has weighed heavily on the memory market this year. This was evident from Micron's fiscal 2022 fourth-quarter results (for the three months that ended on Sept. 1, 2022). The company's revenue fell 20% year over year to $6.6 billion, while adjusted operating income as a percentage of sales was down to 25% from 37.1% in the year-ago period.Micron's forecast for an adjusted gross margin of 26% in the current quarter points toward more pain, as it would be a massive decline from the prior-year period's non-GAAP gross margin of 47%. Things are unlikely to improve in 2023 because the oversupply conditions in the memory market are expected to persist next year due to tepid demand growth.Still, Micron management seems focused on the bigger picture in the memory market. From the growing deployment of dynamic random access memory in smartphones to an increase in memory content in vehicles to a jump in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) workloads in data centers, there are several reasons why memory demand is expected to shoot higher in the long run.At its 2022 investor day, Micron pointed out that the amount of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) shipped in data centers will double by 2025 compared to last year. NAND flash storage, meanwhile, is expected to triple over the same period. Even better, Micron anticipates the data center memory market (including both DRAM and NAND flash) to sustain its impressive momentum through 2030, generating close to $180 billion in revenue versus around $60 billion last year.Meanwhile, nascent markets such as high-bandwidth memory are also expected to take off, generating $13 billion in revenue by 2030 compared to $1 billion last year. On the other hand, Micron anticipates an increase of 30 times in DRAM content and a 100x increase in NAND flash content in vehicles as the level of autonomous driving adoption increases. This explains why the market for automotive memory is expected to generate $17.2 billion in annual revenue in 2028 versus $3.5 billion last year.As such, it is not surprising to see why Micron is setting itself up for long-term success with an aggressive investment plan that could help it thrive in the long run.Investors need to be patientMicron's $100 billion investment is going to be spread out over a long period, so the company won't be reaping any immediate benefits. On top of that, the stock is likely to remain under pressure in the near term thanks to the persistent weakness in the memory market. That's why buying Micron Technology shares may not look like a good idea right now, even though they are trading at just seven times trailing earnings. The forward earnings multiple of 13 shows that the company's earnings are set to decline this fiscal year versus its fiscal 2022 earnings of $8.35 per share. However, things are expected to improve from fiscal 2024.MU EPS Estimates for Current Fiscal Year data by YChartsAnd as the long-term outlook indicates, Micron could clock an impressive pace of growth beyond the next couple of years as well thanks to the secular growth in the memory market. All this tells us why investors should look for signs of a turnaround in Micron's fortunes and start buying this semiconductor stock once the memory market begins recovering.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"MU":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1840,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9915500569,"gmtCreate":1665062430651,"gmtModify":1676537551062,"author":{"id":"4124491608545842","authorId":"4124491608545842","name":"Valterfly","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/4d67eabe4332c730f7a862b834797ed8","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4124491608545842","idStr":"4124491608545842"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9915500569","repostId":"2273092408","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2029,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9915279969,"gmtCreate":1665060215652,"gmtModify":1676537550768,"author":{"id":"4124491608545842","authorId":"4124491608545842","name":"Valterfly","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/4d67eabe4332c730f7a862b834797ed8","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4124491608545842","idStr":"4124491608545842"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a a +100% rally.

This gives us an ideal spot to start a position for the next rally.

Upside is supported by both fundamental and technical analysis.

Thesis Summary

NIO, Inc. (NYSE:NYSE:NIO) has had some positive news come out in the last few weeks though this hasn’t prevented the stock from slumping with the rest of the market. The stock is now near its May low of $11.6, but I expect a swift turnaround soon.

From a technical perspective, the stock has reached the ideal retracement after rallying 100% since the low, and this is a good spot to enter a low-risk long near support. Furthermore, fundamentals support NIO’s long-term growth story, and though the company could still see a couple of weak quarters, the stock may have already bottomed.

Good News Is Good News

While stocks continue to be weighed down by the negative macroeconomic sentiment, many companies, like NIO, are still performing well in this environment.

On Saturday, NIO released its monthly and quarterlydelivery update. The company managed to sell 10,878 cars in September, and deliveries for the third quarter grew at a rate of 29.3% year-over-year, with the company setting a record for the quarter.

Most importantly, though, the company sold 2,928 ET7s, which is almost a 27% growth from last quarter and shows that the market has received this model well. The company also began production and distribution of the ET5, of which it sold 221 units.

In more good news, NIO recently acquired12.6% of Greenwing, a company which has a lithium exploration program at the San Jorge Lithium Project in Argentina. NIO also has call options to acquire 20%-40% of Andes Litio, which owns the rights to the Lithium project.

This means that NIO will potentially have its own source of Lithium, which is becoming harder to source. Furthermore, it gives NIO exposure to a different market, making the company more robust and diversified.

Lastly, it is worth mentioning that NIO continues its European expansion and will be hosting “NIO Berlin” on October 7, 2022. The company recently built its first battery swap station in the city and has plans to begin selling the ET7in Germany by the end of 2022.

All in all, while the share price has declined, the company’s fundamentals are stronger than ever, which is partly why I believe we are close to a significant rally. The other reason is technical analysis.

NIO Technical Analysis

NIO Technical Analysis(Author's work)

First off, I’d like to point out that NIO rallied 100% from its low in May to its high in July. At the very least, we have to acknowledge the potential NIO has for lucrative trades, and we currently have a low-risk setup for another strong and fast rally.

In my opinion, the rally off the lows was an initial five-wave impulse in a wave 1, and we have seen retraced almost exactly to the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement. This is/was a wave 2, which took the form of an impulsive wave A (five waves down) a corrective wave B (three waves) and a final sell-off in an impulsive wave C.

Though it’s still very early to tell, there’s a good chance we struck the low on Friday, meaning we are set to rally in a wave 3 soon. Of course, in order to confirm this for sure we’d have to rally impulsively past resistance, which sits at around $20. This has historically been an area of high trade, and we can see it’s where the 50- and 200-day MAs are hovering on the 4h chart.

Finally, the RSI on the chart is also nearing oversold, and the MACD looks ready for a bullish crossover.

Risks

With that said, there are some risks to this thesis. As I mentioned above, it’s still early days to call a bottom. If the recent low breaks, I’d expect NIO to head towards the next key Fib level at $13.6. This would be an ideal spot to average down and place a stop-loss just below.

From a fundamental perspective, it’s also true that there are various unknown factors coming into play. We still don’t have enough data on the European expansion.

With that said, it’s worth pointing out that the CPCA, China Passenger Car Association, expects NEVs to significantly penetrate the market in the coming quarter. Demand could be accelerated as people try to take advantage of the temporary EV subsidies.

Takeaway

In conclusion, I continue to see NIO as a worthwhile long-term play, which now also has a setup for a low-risk entry point for a position or even a short-term trade. EVs are here to stay, and so is NIO.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
NIO: Ready For Take-Off (Take Two)
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nNIO: Ready For Take-Off (Take Two)\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-10-04 20:56 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryNIO shares have retraced significantly after a +100% rally. This gives us an ideal spot to start a position for the next rally.Upside is supported by both fundamental and technical analysis....
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"NIO":"蔚来","09866":"蔚来-SW","NIO.SI":"蔚来"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4544512-nio-ready-for-take-off-take-two","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1164370909","content_text":"SummaryNIO shares have retraced significantly after a +100% rally.This gives us an ideal spot to start a position for the next rally.Upside is supported by both fundamental and technical analysis.Thesis SummaryNIO, Inc. The \"three stocks to avoid\" in my column last week that I thought were going to lose to the market -- Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Rite Aid, and Lennar -- fell 6%, 29%, and 3%, respectively, averaging out to a 12.7% decline.The S&P 500 experienced a 2.9% move lower, so I was correct. I have been right in 32 of the past 50 weeks, or 64% of the time.Now let's look at the week ahead. I see Apple, Conagra Brands, and Gold Fields as stocks you might want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.1. AppleThe country's most valuable company by market cap -- the only one currently perched above $2 trillion in value -- proved mortal last week. The consumer tech giant tumbled 8%, a big drop for a titan that was previously holding up well against the correcting market. Apple is finally trading closer to its 52-week low than its high.The new iPhone 14 may have generated some buzz when it was unveiled a few weeks ago, but consumers have tired of annual upgrade cycles for smartphones. The incremental improvements are nice, but they may not be enough to woo shoppers who are already clutching their savings harder than they have in a long time.There was a notable analyst downgrade last week. Wamsi Mohan at Bank of America thinks the global climate of inflation, rising interest rates, and geopolitical conflict will weigh on the previously waterproof Apple stock. As a company with heavy volume outside the U.S. market, it's worth noting that the strong dollar will eat into reported revenue from those overseas transactions. There was also a Bloomberg story reporting that Apple is asking suppliers to pare back iPhone 14 production in light of uninspiring global demand.Is Apple overvalued at 23 times trailing earnings? Apple is a company that seems to have one good fiscal year followed by two years of single-digit and sometimes even negative revenue growth. It could bounce back after last week's setback, but when I see all those wireless company ads pitching iPhones for practically nothing, I see a behemoth behind an aspirational brand that could be in trouble.2. Conagra BrandsInstinctively, you don't want to bet against Conagra Brands. It's the company that stocks supermarket shelves with Duncan Hines cake mix, Slim Jim jerky, and Hunt's ketchup. Even in a recession, we have to eat. The problem for a king of brands is that rising food prices are probably sending shoppers to lower-margin house brands. Why buy Conagra's Pam or Reddi-Wip when the store-brand version of the cooking spray or whipped cream is easier on the pocket?Conagra reports financial results for its fiscal first quarter on Thursday morning. Analysts aren't holding out for much, and it's not as if Conagra is an upbeat earnings surprise machine after beating Wall Street profit targets just once over the past three reports. The market sees Conagra growing its revenue by less than 5% this fiscal year, with earnings per share rising even less than that. Sales are expected to slow to just 1% growth next fiscal year. The 3.8% yield should provide some support, but it's not exactly the safe haven it plays itself out to be.3. Gold FieldsSeptember was brutal. It was the market's worst month since March 2020. It was also the worst September -- a month that has historically been challenging -- in 20 years. The bear market may not be over, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was at least a small bounce early in October. This call finds me eyeing Gold Fields.I'm not an expert on South African gold mining stocks, but I saw what happened last week. As most stocks tumbled, precious metals proved shiny. Half of the 10 largest stocks to gain at least 10% last week were gold miners, and Gold Fields commands the largest market of the five stocks on that list. The fundamentals for Gold Fields are fine, and it's in the process of gobbling up a smaller player to expand its global footprint. However, I needed to find a sector that could slide at the expense of a market rally, and tag, you're it, Gold Fields.It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Apple, Conagra, and Gold Fields this week.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AAPL":0.9,"CAG":0.9,"GFI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2541,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"defaultTab":"posts","isTTM":true}
