The company produced nearly 480,000 EVs in the second quarter, and deliveries rocketed 83% higher year over year.That's leading to boosts in analyst share price targets, as well as earnings estimates. But Tesla stock has more than doubled year to date and is higher by nearly 50% over the past three months. Investors might be wondering whether that combination of things means Tesla stock should be bought, sold, or just held at this stage. Here are some more things to consider when making that call. The valuation questionTesla shares have never moved based on traditional valuation metrics. Yet the strength in its earnings over the past year combined with a correction in the stock price brought its price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio down to the mid-20s at the beginning of this year. But the rebound in the market -- and Tesla stock in particular -- has brought the share price back to nosebleed levels. TSLA PE Ratio data by YCharts.That's because investors believe there is much more room for Tesla to grow its earnings. Even with many other EV makers entering the market, Tesla still holds about 60% market share in the U.S. No one expects it to hold on to that massive share for much longer. In China, for example, where competition is building more EVs at scale than in the U.S., Tesla holds about a 10% share of the battery electric and plug-in hybrid market.  But EVs still have a less-than-7% penetration in the U.S. automotive market. So even with a declining market share as others ramp up production, Tesla could well hit its 50% annual production growth goal for several more years. After its surprising second-quarter data, the company is in a position to beat its 1.8 million unit production estimate for 2023. While vehicle sales -- and earnings -- should continue to grow in the years ahead, it's not the only growing revenue stream for Tesla. Services and other revenueTesla breaks out its energy business for investors to monitor. Revenue from energy generation and storage grew nearly 150% year over year, reaching more than $1.5 billion in the first quarter. That represented 6.5% of the company's total revenue. It should also continue to grow, as Tesla has invested heavily to grow its facilities in Nevada and California.  But there's another segment that investors need to start paying closer attention to. What Tesla designates as \"services and other revenue\" includes the company's Supercharger network. That segment also grew strongly year over year in the first quarter and contributed about 8% of total revenue. Since that time Tesla has agreed to open up its fast charging network to non-Tesla brands. Ford, General Motors, Rivian, and Volvo have all reached deals with Tesla for their customers to use the Supercharger network. While the terms of those agreements weren't disclosed, the move to open its proprietary charging network to others will drive revenue in this segment higher. The convenience and reliability of Tesla's Superchargers undoubtedly drove some EV buyers to Tesla. There is the possibility that the new strategy will help competitors sell their growing EV offerings. But if the adoption of EVs grows as many industry observers believe, the positive contributions should outweigh any benefits it gives to competing manufacturers. Investors should monitor Tesla's services segment in the coming months and years to see how much it will help drive revenue and earnings growth. Additional opportunities from Tesla's charging and energy businesses are partly what long-term investors are looking at when buying Tesla shares now. And investors should consider Tesla a long-term investment. For those that might need the money in the near future, it would make sense to sell some Tesla stock now after its recent run. At the same time, deliveries remained flat as a result of lackluster demand.Lucid positioned itself as a luxury-car maker with its sedans starting just shy of $88,000. That puts the group squarely in Tesla’s market, and it’s struggling to compete. Many believe the company will need to trim its prices in order to prop up demand. But doing so would erode both margins and brand power.In a bid to create new revenue streams, the group’s inked a deal with Aston Martin to license its EV technology. This is a strong move, but not necessarily a lifeline. The nation’s middle class is growing, so the addressable market has been steadily increasing.Nio has seen its production growth start to falter and deliveries have been relatively flat for about a year. This disappointed  investors who had seen Nio’s wide array of SUVs and sedans supporting strong production growth post-Covid.While Chinese Covid-19 policy has eased, it’s still a risky place to operate. The zero-Covid strategy meaningfully damaged economic growth. No one knows whether similar restrictions could crop up again. But as the economic cycle turns toward a more difficult era, Rivian isn’t quite there. Rivian’s been plagued by supply chain issues that meant its production volume has fallen far short of estimates. But there are deeper issues as well. The company’s ambition was to rush out a host of different EV models, including a platform of lower-cost vehicles. While access to a ton of cash would have propelled this plan, the manufacturing know-how can only be earned over time.Ultimately, Rivian is contending with a complex supply chain full of pitfalls. Impressive growth, but not as fast as the EV leaders.Li Auto deserves some consideration. It grew sales by about 200% in the second quarter over a year ago. NIO and XPeng deliveries both dropped from last year.The battle for global dominance is getting closer. Over the past 12 months, Tesla has delivered about 1.6 million BEVs compared with about 1.2 million for BYD. Tesla is about 35% bigger than BYD over that span. A year ago, Tesla was twice as large as BYD.Tesla still has the edge over BYD in terms of market capitalization by a long shot. Tesla is worth north of $800 billion. While the competition is growing, Tesla might just be getting warmed up because Musk believes the company can produce 20 million vehicles per year by 2030.But the EV specialist is also a leading developer of autonomous self-driving software, which is not only a financial opportunity in and of itself, but it paves the way for Tesla's ambitious plan to build a fleet of robotaxis (slated for release in 2024). On the company's recent fourth-quarter 2022 earnings call, Musk spoke generally about the potential for fully autonomous cars to create more value than anything in history.That's supported by Ark Invest's lofty predictions for the autonomous ride-hailing industry. The firm believes that any Tesla vehicle on the road with full self-driving capabilities will have the potential to generate $20,000 in revenue per year by transporting people without human assistance. Overall, Ark Invest is betting autonomous ride-hailing will create $14 trillion in value as soon as 2027, with $4 trillion in annual revenue across the industry.Remarkably, Ark Invest says using autonomous taxis could cost as little as $0.25 per mile, which means they have the potential to replace 60% of short-haul flights based on affordability. That's a big opportunity for Tesla, which has approximately 2.7 million cars on the road collecting data to feed its self-driving models right now -- 10 times more than its closest competitor.Ark Invest is extremely bullish on Tesla stockArk Invest currently runs eight exchange-traded funds (ETFs) focused on making long-term bets on different segments of the technology sector. Three of those ETFs own a combined $975 million worth of Tesla stock, and it's the firm's single largest holding by value -- value that could soar if its bold forecast becomes reality.Ark Invest put forward a 2026 price target of $1,533.33 for Tesla stock, which would represent a substantial 705% upside from where it trades today. It also means Tesla would be worth a whopping $5.3 trillion!The forecast assumes the EV maker is generating $843 billion in revenue that year, the majority of which would be coming from electric vehicle sales, and 34% from its robotaxi business. But considering Wall Street analysts expect just $103 billion in revenue in 2023, it means the company will have to more than double its revenue in each of 2024, 2025, and 2026.That's ambitious, if not unlikely. Tesla's own forecasts point to 50% annual growth in vehicle sales, suggesting revenue should increase at roughly the same rate. That's half the pace of Ark's estimate, which means its $1,533.33 price target may not be achievable by 2026.But that's not to say it isn't achievable eventually. In 2022, the worldwide shipments of GPUs fell by 42% alongside a burdened PC market.The decline in consumer demand wasn't helped by Nvidia missing the mark with the launch of its RTX 4000 series GPUs. It released the top-tier RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 in 2022, at a time when consumers were tightening their purse strings. The company unveiled the RTX 4080, priced at $1,199, 71% higher than the previous generation, the RTX 3080, which started at $699 in 2020. As a result, Nvidia's gaming segment suffered a 51% decline in revenue of $1.5 billion in its latest quarter.According to Jon Peddie Research, Nvidia held an 88% market share in consumer GPUs in Q3 2022. With Advanced Micro Devices' growing position in the market and Intel entering in 2022 with the launch of its first consumer GPUs, it feels like Nvidia only has market share to lose.The bright side is the PC industry will likely improve alongside easing inflation, and Nvidia's dominating position in the market will be to its advantage. Meanwhile, the company is expected to release its mid to low-tier 4000 series GPUs this year, which are always the most popular in the range. If Nvidia learned from its pricing fumble last year, it could come back strong with the new devices.Despite a challenging 2022, Nvidia shares rose 280% in the last five years and around 7,000% in the last decade. This includes Harvey C. Jones, a noted tech sector executive who serves on the Nvidia board of directors. Recently, he offloaded a portion of his shares, walking away with a profit of roughly $28 million.What’s Happening With NVDA StockIt is important to note that while Jones has sold a portion of his Nvidia holdings, that doesn’t mean he has given up on the company. On the contrary, he still holds the majority of his stake. According to a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Form 4 Filing, he sold 70,205 shares of common stock priced at $405 each while still holding 796,191 shares. The filing also indicates that the date of transaction for the trade is June 2, 2023.News of the sale hasn’t impacted NVDA stock significantly, which, while down a little today, is still about flat for the week. While it has been fairly volatile, this can be attributed to negative market momentum. Through it all, Nvidia has still managed to stay well in the green for the month.Jones isn’t the only Nvidia board member to sell some shares since Nvidia’s recent headway. Fellow director Persis Drell recently offloaded 7,800 shares. As with Jones, her sale did not impact NVDA stock. But a clear path to profitability is key. If cash is tight, demand needs to be strong as an indication the company can make it. However, the current economic conditions suggest carmakers of any kind could be in trouble, prompting some to sell EV stocks in July. But the current market conditions have all but crushed the group’s potential. The most recent results showed a decline in production thanks to ongoing supply chain issues. At the same time, deliveries remained flat as a result of lackluster demand.Lucid positioned itself as a luxury-car maker with its sedans starting just shy of $88,000. That puts the group squarely in Tesla’s market, and it’s struggling to compete. Many believe the company will need to trim its prices in order to prop up demand. But doing so would erode both margins and brand power.In a bid to create new revenue streams, the group’s inked a deal with Aston Martin to license its EV technology. This is a strong move, but not necessarily a lifeline. It clearly put of a damper on its growth.China is home to some of the riskier EV stocks, though there are many reasons that being a Chinese EV stock is an advantage. China’s air quality issues mean the country is a leader when it comes to EV adoption, so the home market is strong. The nation’s middle class is growing, so the addressable market has been steadily increasing.Nio has seen its production growth start to falter and deliveries have been relatively flat for about a year. This disappointed  investors who had seen Nio’s wide array of SUVs and sedans supporting strong production growth post-Covid.While Chinese Covid-19 policy has eased, it’s still a risky place to operate. In some cases, this easy access to cash can get a new business off the ground and put it in a position to stand on its own two feet. But as the economic cycle turns toward a more difficult era, Rivian isn’t quite there. Rivian’s been plagued by supply chain issues that meant its production volume has fallen far short of estimates. But there are deeper issues as well. The company’s ambition was to rush out a host of different EV models, including a platform of lower-cost vehicles. While access to a ton of cash would have propelled this plan, the manufacturing know-how can only be earned over time.Ultimately, Rivian is contending with a complex supply chain full of pitfalls. The move ensured their stock remained accessible to retail investors with small amounts of capital, as well as employees who wanted to participate in share purchase plans.In August of last year, electric vehicle powerhouse Tesla  executed a 3-for-1 split that increased the number of shares on issue threefold and shrank its stock price from $891.30 to $297.10. The stock split alone isn't a reason to buy Tesla because it hasn't changed the value of the underlying company, but the company's fundamentals certainly might be.Ark Investment Management, led by technology investor Cathie Wood, believes Tesla stock could soar to $1,533.33 by 2026 on the back of growing demand for electric vehicles, plus the rise of fully autonomous robotaxis. The latter is a key area of focus for CEO Elon Musk, too.Given Tesla stock trades around $190 as of this writing, that presents an opportunity for investors to earn a substantial return -- particularly retail investors, thanks to last year's stock split.Tesla and Ark bet big on robotaxisTesla is, first and foremost, the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer. It delivered 1.3 million cars worldwide in 2022, and it holds a 65% market share in the U.S. alone. While the competition is growing, Tesla might just be getting warmed up because Musk believes the company can produce 20 million vehicles per year by 2030.But the EV specialist is also a leading developer of autonomous self-driving software, which is not only a financial opportunity in and of itself, but it paves the way for Tesla's ambitious plan to build a fleet of robotaxis (slated for release in 2024). On the company's recent fourth-quarter 2022 earnings call, Musk spoke generally about the potential for fully autonomous cars to create more value than anything in history.That's supported by Ark Invest's lofty predictions for the autonomous ride-hailing industry. The firm believes that any Tesla vehicle on the road with full self-driving capabilities will have the potential to generate $20,000 in revenue per year by transporting people without human assistance. Overall, Ark Invest is betting autonomous ride-hailing will create $14 trillion in value as soon as 2027, with $4 trillion in annual revenue across the industry.Remarkably, Ark Invest says using autonomous taxis could cost as little as $0.25 per mile, which means they have the potential to replace 60% of short-haul flights based on affordability. That's a big opportunity for Tesla, which has approximately 2.7 million cars on the road collecting data to feed its self-driving models right now -- 10 times more than its closest competitor.Ark Invest is extremely bullish on Tesla stockArk Invest currently runs eight exchange-traded funds (ETFs) focused on making long-term bets on different segments of the technology sector. Three of those ETFs own a combined $975 million worth of Tesla stock, and it's the firm's single largest holding by value -- value that could soar if its bold forecast becomes reality.Ark Invest put forward a 2026 price target of $1,533.33 for Tesla stock, which would represent a substantial 705% upside from where it trades today. It also means Tesla would be worth a whopping $5.3 trillion!The forecast assumes the EV maker is generating $843 billion in revenue that year, the majority of which would be coming from electric vehicle sales, and 34% from its robotaxi business. But considering Wall Street analysts expect just $103 billion in revenue in 2023, it means the company will have to more than double its revenue in each of 2024, 2025, and 2026.That's ambitious, if not unlikely. Tesla's own forecasts point to 50% annual growth in vehicle sales, suggesting revenue should increase at roughly the same rate. That's half the pace of Ark's estimate, which means its $1,533.33 price target may not be achievable by 2026.But that's not to say it isn't achievable eventually.
