Entertainmentâs (AMC) seemingly positive earnings reported depended heavily on the Barbie movie.AMC Entertainment disappointed investors with another stock offering.Investors should be very cautious with AMC stock.Source: Ira Lichi / Shutterstock.comPlenty of fans, known as âApes,â are rooting for AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC) to succeed in 2024. Thatâs all fine and well, but AMC stock is on a downtrend and the best grade we can give it is a âD.â Itâs not an insult to the company or the âApes,â but only an assessment that AMC Entertainment doesnât offer a favorable risk-to-reward balance to the shareholders. Some folks, including AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron, might claim that the company is staging an excellent post-pandemic recovery. Still, investors need to look at all the facts and consider the bigger picture. Unfortunately, there wonât likely be a happy ending soon for AMC Entertainmentâs loyal shareholders.Barbie Didnât Save AMC StockThereâs no denying the positive points in AMC Entertainmentâs third-quarter 2023 results. For what itâs worth, the company reported revenue growth and bottom-line improvement.Aron acknowledged AMC Entertainmentâs âattendance at the domestic box office in the quarter was still 16% below comparable 2019 levels.âThe CEO warned that the âshort-term impactsâ of the writersâ and actorsâ strikes will present âchallenges for AMC in 2024.â The actorsâ strike has ended, but AMC Entertainment might have to deal with the financial impact for a while.Even if we grant that AMC Entertainment had a favorable third quarter, it wasnât enough to prevent AMC stock from dropping sharply this year. Remember, it was a $50+ stock during the âsummer of Barbie.âClearly, the much-touted Barbie film couldnât rescue AMC Entertainmentâs shareholders from financial losses. Even if the company captures lightning in a bottle again with new blockbuster films â which is easier said than done â thereâs no assurance that AMC Entertainmentâs loyal investors will return to breakeven soon.AMC Entertainment Prepares to Issue and Sell More SharesAMC Entertainment has added to its pool of shares before. So, maybe itâs not surprising if the company does it again. Thus, AMC Entertainment has reportedly filed to offer as much as $350 million worth of the companyâs stock shares.AMC stock dropped upon the news. This undoubtedly happened because the current investors didnât like the idea of AMC Entertainment diluting the value of the existing shares.Among other things, AMC Entertainment intends to use the proceeds to ârepay, refinance, redeem or repurchase our existing indebtedness.â Indeed, the company has a lot of âindebtedness.â According to Wedbush analyst Alicia Reese, AMC Entertainment âstill has over $4 billion in debt.âFrankly, you just never know when AMC Entertainment might announce another share offering. Itâs a quick way to raise capital in the short term, but it certainly doesnât make the current shareholders happy.AMC Stock: The Next Act Could Be Another Leg DownItâs fine to root for AMC Entertainment to succeed as the company strives to recover from the pandemic. Yet, thereâs no guarantee that future Barbie-like blockbuster films will rescue AMC Entertainment.AMC Entertainment has a heavy debt load and the company might announce another share sale at any given moment. Consequently, weâre assigning a âDâ grade to AMC stock and donât currently recommend it.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMC":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2696,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":246273124770016,"gmtCreate":1701149334720,"gmtModify":1701149339178,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"âïžđâïž","listText":"âïžđâïž","text":"âïžđâïž","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/246273124770016","repostId":"1175762732","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1175762732","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1701148969,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1175762732?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-11-28 13:22","language":"en","title":"Gold Miners Lift ASX, Origin Energy a Drag","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1175762732","media":"The Australian Financial Review","summary":"Shares rebounded on Tuesday, buoyed by gains in real estate and gold, and the Australian dollar climbed to a four-month high on expectations that borrowing costs will stay elevated for longer than in ","content":"
\n
Shares rebounded on Tuesday, buoyed by gains in real estate and gold, and the Australian dollar climbed to a four-month high on expectations that borrowing costs will stay elevated for longer than in ...
\n\nSource Link\n\n
\n","source":"afr_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Many bulls are pointing to AMCâs progress in cutting losses compared to prior quarters, and various bullish box office-related catalysts, mainly boosted enthusiasm around Taylor Swiftâs Eras tour selling out theaters. However, in my view, AMC still requires much more rigorous debate before investors can consider this stock, even at current levels. This is not a business I see as fundamentally sustainable in the long-run due to its inconsistent cash flow generation, heavy reliance on box office momentum from Hollywood, and loss-making business model. There is a lot more to unpack about this business, especially after the peculiar creation of the new APE preferred stock last year. The Biggest Problem With AMC Stock? Crushing Debt and DilutionClearly, AMC is having a ton of trouble trying to raise capital and dig itself out of the massive $9.5 billion debt pile it still sits on, with just $435 million in cash on hand as of last quarter. The companyâs interest payments on this towering debt load are crushing the company, and AMC has had to engage in considerable share dilution at discounted prices over the past year to repay portions of this debt and continue normal business operations.Of course, AMC can survive for years if retail investors continue to step up and prop the share price up when needed, providing capital to management. The company can also survive if it finds other creative ways of securing funding, like asset sales. However, I do not believe this is a sustainable business model for the long-run, as there is simply no clear path back to consistent profitability on the horizon yet. Some would argue that AMCâs losses will eventually be substantially reduced, once interest rates ease and the Federal Reserve pivots from its hawkish monetary policy stance. Personally, I find that argument lacks merit since the Federal Reserve has clearly signaled that it would likely need to keep interest rates at restrictive levels for a prolonged period of time, especially as we have continued to see the U.S. economy perform quite well in recent quarters. No Respite for AMC Stock Even if Rates FallAnd still, even in a scenario where the Federal Reserve did suddenly start cutting interest rates again and easing policy, I do not believe it would reverse the long-term prognosis for AMC completely. Thatâs because the core issue is that even if you exclude these debt interest payments, the AMC business itself is still burning significant cash on an operating basis annually. In my view, this is the biggest fundamental red flag and issue here. It signals that AMC needs to make some serious adjustments to its business model and operations for any hopes of achieving consistent long-term profitability down the line. Relying on momentary hype cycles like the recent wave of Taylor Swift fans wonât be a repeatable phenomenon forever. So, eventually, I expect AMC will return to posting lackluster loss-making figures in a quarter or two, in line with its usual performance when you pull back the lens.Very Few Realistic Options Remain for AMC StockThe conclusion I keep coming back to is simple: AMC has frankly no realistic way out of the deep hole it has dug itself into over the past decade, at least from what I can observe. It simply has too much debt relative to its cash-generating capabilities and cash reserves to keep burning through $742 million of cash every twelve months.Yes, AMC can survive for a few more years if management continues to reduce its footprint and cut costs. But where will this company realistically be in five years or ten years if it fails to achieve consistent profitability? In my opinion, the only ways I can envision AMC actually getting out from under this towering debt load any time soon is if either:Another much more massive company or entity comes along and acquires AMC, taking this debt load onto their own books. Or, lightning somehow keeps striking at the same place over and over, with new viral trends and memes consistently spiking AMCâs ticket sales, cash flow, and share price every quarter.Of course, both of those scenarios seem highly improbable to me currently. Moreover, as mentioned, the Federal Reserve has made it abundantly clear that markets should expect restrictive high interest rates to persist for the foreseeable future, barring an unexpected severe plunge in the economy or forced pivot. And still, even in a fantasy scenario where the Fed suddenly cuts rates again, I do not see that providing much, if any, true respite for AMC Stock, or the companyâs unsustainable financial position. Because at the end of the day, this company needs to fix the core profitability issues with its underlying business model and operations to survive, regardless of interest rates or viral meme stock rallies. The Bottom LineIn summary, while I respect the recent bullish price action and meme enthusiasm, I simply cannot, in good faith, recommend investing in AMC stock near $10 per share at the moment. In my view, survival does not automatically equate to a sound long-term investing thesis.AMC needs to adequately address its core business model and profitability issues first before becoming investable again. Its decisions and financials of the past few years point in a downward trajectory. Thus, in my opinion, the recent momentary meme-fueled relief rallies weâve seen in 2023 so far may be getting long in the tooth.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"APE":1.1,"AMC":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2150,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":225000330731600,"gmtCreate":1696010386521,"gmtModify":1696041146768,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Shorts still need to cover millons of Share amc will have a squeeze , popcorn f^*k his shareholder real hard , he deserves prison !!! The glory days of meme stocks may be in the rear-view mirror, however. Now, AMC stock is in a terrible downtrend and the best rating it deserves in 2023 is a âD.âSure, there will be blockbuster films from time to time. Will Barbie and Taylor Swift be enough to save AMC Entertainment from its financial problems, though? The odds arenât great, so exercise caution if youâre thinking about investing in AMC Entertainment now.AMC Stock Traders: Listen to the CEOAMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron is a vocal cheerleader for the company. He has embraced his position as leader of AMC Entertainment fans, known as âApes.âYet, even the chief executive has disclosed warnings about AMC Entertainment. In particular, Aron admitted, âMoviegoing in 2023 still will be well below 2019 pre-COVID levelsâ despite the success of the Barbie movie. In addition, Aron acknowledged that the âwriters and actors strikes create uncertainty ahead. And cash is very tight.â How tight? As of March 31, AMC Entertainmentâs cash position was down to $495.6 million, as compared to $631.5 million at the same time in 2022.Plus, in an open letter posted on social media, Aron warned about what could happen if AMC Entertainment could not raise equity capital quicklyâ[T]he risk materially increases of AMC conceivably running out of cash in 2024 or 2025, or of AMC being unable to satisfactorily refinance and stretch out the maturity of some of our debt (which is required of us beginning as early as 2024),â he wrote.AMC Raises Capital, but at What Cost? Those werenât the only warnings issued by AMC Entertainment, by the way. For instance, the company has stated that buying AMC stock is âhighly speculative and involves risk.âAMC Entertainment declared that its shareholders should be âprepared to incur the risk of losing all or a substantial portion of your investment.â Are you really willing to take on risk of that magnitude?Granted, AMC Entertainment did shore up its balance sheet somewhat when the company recently raised approximately $325.5 million. In order to achieve this, though, AMC Entertainment printed and sold 40 million stock shares.Even the loyal âApesâ and meme stock traders must admit that this is an imperfect way to raise capital. Surely, current AMC Entertainment investors werenât thrilled about the prospect of share value dilution.Remember, Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey noted that âAMC is expected to report a full-year 2023 loss of $386 million.âIs it realistic to think that this will be AMC Entertainmentâs last large-scale share sale? Not likely. Given the companyâs challenging financial position, itâs likely that AMC Entertainment will engage in further dilutive activities sooner or later.AMC Stock: This Movie Could Have a Bad EndingAMC Entertainment has acknowledged that the company is in a tough position, financially speaking. Printing and selling shares is a short-term fix, but itâs not a perfect solution.Ultimately, AMC Entertainment will need more than Barbie, Taylor Swift and share sales to shore up its capital position for the long term. Therefore, AMC stock get a âDâ grade and isnât a highly recommended investment for 2023.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMC":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3029,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":224826517758008,"gmtCreate":1695898208889,"gmtModify":1695900796657,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"short sellingTipical term for corruption đđ€Ł","listText":"short sellingTipical term for corruption đđ€Ł","text":"short sellingTipical term for corruption đđ€Ł","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/224826517758008","repostId":"1125284354","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1125284354","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1695890806,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1125284354?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-09-28 16:46","market":"us","language":"en","title":"How Likely Is AMC Stock to Undergo Another Short Squeeze?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1125284354","media":"The Street","summary":"After the big drop in its share price, short selling in AMC has eased. This forces short sellers to cover their positions by buying the asset, which in turn drives the price even higher. While there's no guaranteed formula for triggering a short squeeze, certain conditions and setups can increase the likelihood of one occurring, such as:High short interest: This means that a significant portion of a stock's float (the total number of shares available for trading) has been sold short by investors betting on a price decline. The higher the short interest, the greater the potential for a short squeeze.Limited number of shares available: When there are not enough shares to trade or borrow to sell short, it can amplify the impact of a short squeeze. Review","summary":"The Reserve Bank of Australia on Tuesday pressed ahead with a ninth straight increase to the officia","content":"

The Reserve Bank of Australia on Tuesday pressed ahead with a ninth straight increase to the official interest rate, taking it to 3.35 per cent, and said more rises would be necessary to tame high inflation despite some families experiencing âa painful squeezeâ on their household budgets.

After peaking at 7.8 per cent in the December quarter, headline inflation is expected to fall to 4.75 per cent by yearâs end but remain well above the RBAâs 2 per cent to 3 per cent target band until at least mid-2025.

At its first meeting of 2023, the RBA board raised the cash rate by 0.25 percentage points and said it remained committed to ensuring the current high inflation period was âonly temporaryâ.

âThe boardâs priority is to return inflation to target. High inflation makes life difficult for people and damages the functioning of the economy,â Dr Lowe said in a decidedly hawkish statement following the meeting.âAnd if high inflation were to become entrenched in peopleâs expectations, it would be very costly to reduce later.â That means âfurther increases in interest rates will be needed in coming monthsâ.At 3.35 per cent, monthly repayments on a 25-year, $500,000 mortgage will have increased by $908 since May 2022, by $1362 for a $750,000 mortgage, and by $1816 for a $1 million loan, according to comparison website RateCity.Inflation is the main gameWhile acknowledging the so-called âlag effectâ of existing interest rate rises to date, which means many households are yet to feel the full hit to the cost of living, the bankâs No. 1 priority remained taming inflation.âThe board is seeking to return inflation to the 2-3 per cent range while keeping the economy on an even keel, but the path to achieving a soft landing remains a narrow one,â Dr Lowe said.âIn assessing how much further interest rates need to increase, the board will be paying close attention to developments in the global economy, trends in household spending and the outlook for inflation and the labour market. The RBA governor said there was uncertainty around the timing and extent of the expected and necessary slowdown in household spending.âSome households have substantial savings buffers, but others are experiencing a painful squeeze on their budgets due to higher interest rates and the increase in the cost of living,â he said.Previewing the bankâs quarterly statement on monetary policy due out on Friday, Dr Lowe said on Tuesday a forecast 1.5 per cent economic growth in 2023 and 2024 was little changed from October.âThe recovery in spending on services following the lifting of COVID restrictions has largely run its course and the tighter financial conditions will constrain spending more broadly,â he said. The central forecast for unemployment is an increase to 3.75 per cent by the end of this year and 4.5 per cent by mid-2025.Innes Willox, chief executive of Australian Industry Group, said the prospect of further interest rate rises ahead was âsoberingâ news.âThere are strong signs the desired slowdown in activity is beginning to take effect and, as we get further along the path of monetary tightening, the risk of overdoing the rate rises clearly intensifies,â Mr Willox said.âIt is critical now that businesses, governments and employees exercise moderation in price setting and wages negotiations and avoid fuelling the inflation and inflation expectations.âCash rate could peak higherA snap poll of 24 economists conducted by The Australian Financial Review on Friday showed 22 respondents expected the quarter-point increase, while the median forecast peak in the cash rate was 3.6 per cent. That suggests just one more increase is due from the RBA, though the wording of the bankâs latest statement suggested it would peak higher.Since May last year, the Reserve Bank has raised the cash rate on nine consecutive occasions, taking it from a record low 0.1 per cent to 3.35 per cent in the fastest monetary policy tightening cycle in a generation. The poll also showed 18 respondents not forecasting any decrease in the cash rate this year, a view reinforced for many by the December quarter inflation data, which came in stronger than expected. At 1.9 per cent over the quarter and 7.8 per cent over the year, the result was well above market consensus, though below the RBAâs forecasts. Dr Lowe said the bank believed headline inflation was now beginning to fall. But of particular concern was the stronger-than-expected underlying result, which suggested strong momentum in prices towards the end of the year.Underlying, or trimmed mean inflation, the RBAâs preferred measure that trims away large price movements, rose a 1.7 per cent over the quarter to 6.9 per cent annually.Dr Lowe said while global factors explained much of the high inflation, âstrong domestic demand is adding to the inflationary pressures in a number of areas of the economyâ.âInflation is expected to decline this year due to both global factors and slower growth in domestic demand,â he said.Greens Treasury spokesman Nick McKim implied he was better qualified than the RBA to make monetary policy decisions and called on Treasurer Jim Chalmers to reverse the decision and ask Dr Lowe to resign.âThis blast of interest rate increases were never the right response to inflation driven by supply shocks and corporate profiteering,â he said, despite the RBA and Treasury telling him and other Greens senators on multiple occasions that âcorporate profiteeringâ was not a primary cause of inflation and demand-side factors were playing into high inflation.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"XJO.AU":0.9,"XAO.AU":0.9,"XKO.AU":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2311,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9924206772,"gmtCreate":1672258017896,"gmtModify":1676538660860,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Of course no one gets it !!! its a scam alll this ape transmaphrodite fake share shit killed amc ","listText":"Of course no one gets it !!! its a scam alll this ape transmaphrodite fake share shit killed amc ","text":"Of course no one gets it !!! its a scam alll this ape transmaphrodite fake share shit killed amc","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9924206772","repostId":"1184576552","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1184576552","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1672215821,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1184576552?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-28 16:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"AMC Preferred Equity (APE) Units: \"The Market Does Not Get It\"","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1184576552","media":"The Street","summary":"According to a Wall Street bear, the discrepancy between the share price of AMC common stock and its","content":"

According to a Wall Street bear, the discrepancy between the share price of AMC common stock and its preferred stock (APE) is a sign that the market has not yet understood its purpose.

In the second quarter of the year, AMC Entertainment distributed one preferred share to each shareholder for every share they owned as a dividend.

Since the launch of AMC Preferred Equity units, there has been a price discrepancy between the common and the preferred stock.

According to a Wall Street expert, the share price behavior of the APEs sends a message that the market has not understood their purpose.

AMC Preferred Shares for Every Single Shareholder

During the second quarter of 2022, AMC Entertainment announced the creation of AMC Preferred Equity units (APEs). Each AMC shareholder received one APE share for every AMC share they owned.

According to the movie theater chain, it was one of the biggest developments of the year.

The main purpose of the APEs was to allow AMC to raise capital to pay off its debt load. In addition, the money raised would also be useful for merger and acquisition funds and would be key to AMC's long-term prospects.

At first, the creation of APEs may have sounded bearish to shareholders, who feared the further dilution of AMC shares.

Since the APEs began trading publicly, their share price has dropped more than 80%, from $6.95 to less than $1 per share today. APE is now a penny stock.

The Market Is "Not Getting" the APEs

The difference in share price between AMC's common stock and preferred shares is no doubt something that has drawn attention on Wall Street. After all, in theory, the assets are the same piece of paper.

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, who primarily covers gaming stocks â including GameStop (GME) - Get Free Report â made some comments regarding AMC's preferred shares probably because of the "meme" issue behind the stock.

As Pachter pointed out, preferred shares are useful when a company declares bankruptcy and needs to pay its creditors. Thus, what is left of the company goes to those shareholders who own these preferred shares.

However, AMC's initiative to distribute preferred shares to each of its shareholders makes preferred shares lose their meaning, according to the Wedbush analyst.

Pachter also said that because APEs are depreciating faster than AMC common shares, this may be a sign that there is some confusion in the market.

"The market doesn't quite get it at all, and they're bidding down the preferred, but they're all going to go down together."

Wedbush's Worries About AMC's Debt

Pachter's colleague Alicia Reese, who covers AMC stock, shares his bearish sentiment toward the company. According to Reese, AMC shares should be worth $2 based on its business fundamentals.

After the latest third-quarter earnings release, the Wedbush analyst saw AMC missing a golden opportunity to write down or pay down some of its debt, which reached $5.4 billion when the APE units were first issued.

However, as AMC recently announced, in the last three months, about 3% of the APE units have been sold, allowing AMC to raise $160 million in cash.

The movie theater chain took advantage of this to repurchase about $36 million in principal debt at a 61% discount. This, added to the company's refinancing in 2022, reduces the company's total debt by $180 million.

Finally, according to Alicia Reese, AMC should make it a priority to pay off its debts and dive deeper into its partnership with IMAX. Reese also said that AMC needs to avoid "distractions" from its various new businesses and ventures, such as its popcorn branded for retail and credit card sales.

The Bottom Line

Arguably, analysts and the so-called "smart money" do their jobs by analyzing stocks based on their business fundamentals. AMC's business still has many challenges ahead, especially in proving sustainability concerning its debt and liquidity.

However, the initiative of AMC's management to issue APEs as a kind of currency to raise money seems to have been a great move. Capitalizing on the considerable short-term headwinds facing the movie theater industry and the American economy as a whole seems prudent, to say the least.

During the past year, several Wall Street analysts had predicted that AMC would become a penny stock. But it didn't. This is because, in my view, over the past two years, using AMC's fundamentals alone to predict its share price yields an incomplete story.

Today, it is estimated that the majority of AMC's float is owned by retail investors, many of them highly engaged in socially mobilized investing.

Thus, the active participation of individual shareholders is quite relevant to dictate the share price of AMC and also of APEs. The shares often disregard company-related news or business fundamentals â one of the characteristics of so-called meme stocks.

","source":"lsy1610613172068","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
AMC Preferred Equity (APE) Units: \"The Market Does Not Get It\"
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nAMC Preferred Equity (APE) Units: \"The Market Does Not Get It\"\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-12-28 16:23 GMT+8 The Street\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
According to a Wall Street bear, the discrepancy between the share price of AMC common stock and its preferred stock (APE) is a sign that the market has not yet understood its purpose. In the second ...
\n\nSource Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMC":"AMCéąçșż","APE":"AMC Entertainment Preferred"},"source_url":"https://www.thestreet.com/memestocks/amc/amc-ape-the-market-does-not-get-it","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1184576552","content_text":"According to a Wall Street bear, the discrepancy between the share price of AMC common stock and its preferred stock (APE) is a sign that the market has not yet understood its purpose. In the second quarter of the year, AMC Entertainment distributed one preferred share to each shareholder for every share they owned as a dividend.Since the launch of AMC Preferred Equity units, there has been a price discrepancy between the common and the preferred stock.According to a Wall Street expert, the share price behavior of the APEs sends a message that the market has not understood their purpose.AMC Preferred Shares for Every Single ShareholderDuring the second quarter of 2022, AMC Entertainment announced the creation of AMC Preferred Equity units (APEs). This, added to the company's refinancing in 2022, reduces the company's total debt by $180 million. Finally, according to Alicia Reese, AMC should make it a priority to pay off its debts and dive deeper into its partnership with IMAX. Reese also said that AMC needs to avoid \"distractions\" from its various new businesses and ventures, such as its popcorn branded for retail and credit card sales. The Bottom LineArguably, analysts and the so-called \"smart money\" do their jobs by analyzing stocks based on their business fundamentals. AMC's business still has many challenges ahead, especially in proving sustainability concerning its debt and liquidity. However, the initiative of AMC's management to issue APEs as a kind of currency to raise money seems to have been a great move. Capitalizing on the considerable short-term headwinds facing the movie theater industry and the American economy as a whole seems prudent, to say the least.During the past year, several Wall Street analysts had predicted that AMC would become a penny stock. But it didn't. This is because, in my view, over the past two years, using AMC's fundamentals alone to predict its share price yields an incomplete story.Today, it is estimated that the majority of AMC's float is owned by retail investors, many of them highly engaged in socially mobilized investing. Thus, the active participation of individual shareholders is quite relevant to dictate the share price of AMC and also of APEs. The shares often disregard company-related news or business fundamentals â one of the characteristics of so-called meme stocks.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMC":0.9,"APE":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2345,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9980269450,"gmtCreate":1665743385370,"gmtModify":1676537658829,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hold !!! While the movie theater operator seems to be recovering nicely from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, massive levels of equity dilution could leave investors holding the bag. A difficult past could become a diluted future.Few industries were harder hit by the COVID-19 pandemic than the cinema industry. Not only did consumers avoid the tight spaces and poor ventilation of crowded theaters -- major studios like Walt Disney postponed major films or moved them to their streaming platforms. At the height of the crisis in 2020, AMC's revenue collapsed by 77% to $1.24 billion against the prior year, and it lost $4.59 billion. AMC's stock was later caught up in the meme stock movement, which involved retail investors buying up heavily shorted companies to try to trigger short squeezes. The company skillfully took advantage of this situation. Instead of over-relying on debt to raise capital during the crisis, it issued new shares at their inflated valuation. As of the second quarter of 2022, AMC has 517 million shares outstanding compared to just 52 million this time in 2019 -- an almost tenfold increase in just three years. On the surface, equity dilution can look like a great way out of a bind. And in AMC's case, management may have made the correct decision to sell more shares instead of only relying on debt that could have posed a bankruptcy risk. That said, there is no free lunch. And AMC's shareholders may end up paying the tab. The more stock a company issues, the less each is worth relative to future earnings. Each share of AMC only represents one-tenth of its prior value, dramatically limiting the stock's potential upside for investors. What's next for AMC?AMC's second-quarter results highlight its rapid recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Revenue jumped 162% year over year to $1.17 billion, while net losses narrowed from $344 million to $121.6 million. And although the company hasn't provided firm guidance, management is optimistic about the rest of the year as blockbuster sequels to Black Panther and Avatar hit the box office in the fourth quarter. But despite the positive momentum, AMC investors still face significant challenges. On Aug. 4, the company announced a special dividend of one publicly traded AMC Preferred Equity (APE) unit per share of AMC common stock (roughly 517 million units). In September, management inked an agreement to sell an additional 425 million of these new shares. These new APE shares look like a sneaky way to dilute equity without touching AMC's already massively diluted common stock. Investors should see this as a red flag because APE shares have equal voting rights as common stock and will become convertible to common stock in the future if equity investors (including APE holders) approve. Selling AMC is the right moveAMC Entertainment's movie theater business is enjoying a massive rebound after the initial COVID-19 pandemic. But investors could still be left holding the short end of the stick. Shares outstanding have increased almost tenfold in the previous three years, and the issuance of the new APE preferred shares could make that dilution significantly worse over the long term. Investors should strongly consider selling this stock.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"APE":0.9,"AMC":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":839,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9934222131,"gmtCreate":1663260634523,"gmtModify":1676537239054,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Aurizon Holdings Ltd(AZJ.AU)$","listText":"$Aurizon Holdings Ltd(AZJ.AU)$","text":"$Aurizon Holdings Ltd(AZJ.AU)$","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/1aa72667f2cc7aecfa79c9077dbf94d7","width":"750","height":"1606"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9934222131","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1108,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9934222098,"gmtCreate":1663260356117,"gmtModify":1676537239022,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Hycroft Mining Holding Corporation(HYMC)$","listText":"$Hycroft Mining Holding Corporation(HYMC)$","text":"$Hycroft Mining Holding Corporation(HYMC)$","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/4cd72e96461ed08d6d466a0acfc8af2f","width":"750","height":"1174"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9934222098","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1249,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9996308936,"gmtCreate":1661123159528,"gmtModify":1676536454387,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Popcorn our beloved ceo !!! It's still struggling, losing $0.20 per share in the second quarter of 2022 despite vastly improved attendance and revenue. This helps explain why AMC might want to raise additional cash. But how it's going about that process should be a big problem for investors, as the company adds to a list of actions that don't look particularly shareholder-friendly.Putting shareholders firstThe basic logic of investing is that shareholders own the company. They hire a board of directors to oversee the management of the company; the board of directors hires a CEO to handle the day-to-day running of the business. That CEO answers to the board, which answers to shareholders. All in all, the business is supposed to be run for the benefit of its owners -- the people and institutions holding the stock. That's a simplification of what are complex entities. There are clearly other parties involved that need to be considered, like employees, customers, and the towns where companies operate. However, good businesses understand that taking care of those constituencies also works to the benefit of shareholders. Unfortunately, all companies don't operate in the best interest of their owners.Right now shareholders of AMC Entertainment should be worried about the moves the company is making.A list of problems at AMCWhen the pandemic hit in 2020, movie theaters were basically forced to shut down. It was a brutal period, and AMC's financial performance was understandably terrible. Then it somehow got sucked into the meme stock hoopla, causing its stock to rocket higher based on emotion, not financial performance. Superaggressive investors chatting on message boards were able to move the stock in often volatile fashion.Management used the high stock price to issue shares; that provided the movie chain with much-needed cash to help it muddle through the pandemic hit. The survival of the business clearly trumped the dilution that shareholders experienced from the stock sales. Indeed, the stock would have likely been worthless if the company went bankrupt. But something interesting happened in July 2021. AMC had been seeking approval to increase its share count so it could issue even more shares. It pulled the proposal because it was, presumably, getting pushback from shareholders. Essentially, the company's owners said no, noting that adding more shares would dilute existing shareholders even more than they had already been diluted. Although shareholders managed to protect themselves, this was an important sign that management may not have had its their best interests in mind. And then in March 2022, AMC bought a 22% stake in Hycroft Mining Holding. Hycroft is a tiny gold miner, in a business that has absolutely nothing to do with movie theaters. While it makes sense for AMC to buy movie theaters, which it has been doing, it's hard to understand how an investment in a speculative gold company makes any sense. Shareholders had good reason too be worried about management's use of cash. Now, the company has announced plans to issue preferred shares to investors. Although management pitched it as a benefit for shareholders, this move effectively opens the door for the company to sell additional preferred shares on the open market to raise additional capital. Cynical types might see this as a work-around after shareholders balked at more stock sales in 2021. It's also reasonable to ask why AMC put money into a gold investment if cash is so hard to get that it had to use a tactic like this.Long-term investors should be upsetThe trends here are not pleasing, and investors should probably be worried. AMC has been dealing with a very difficult operating environment, but some of the decisions it has made over the past couple of years don't appear to be shareholder-friendly. Although the meme-stock crowd has again started to play with AMC's stock, sending it sharply higher, management's actions suggest that the risk here is very high. It's also worth noting that AMC recently bought back some debt on the open market at a steep 31% discount to par value. While that was probably a good use of cash, the fact that the company's bonds are trading below what they were sold at suggests that bond investors are anxious about the movie chain's ability to pay them back. Bondholders aren't the only ones who should worry about what the future holds for AMC.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMC":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1031,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9990436079,"gmtCreate":1660388450595,"gmtModify":1676533463359,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"#DelayapeuntilQ4","listText":"#DelayapeuntilQ4","text":"#DelayapeuntilQ4","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9990436079","repostId":"2257180231","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":962,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":224826517758008,"gmtCreate":1695898208889,"gmtModify":1695900796657,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin noman","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/d4cf1beb7ca43413547c8dde5a4700e0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4119226100765382","idStr":"4119226100765382"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"short sellingTipical term for corruption đđ€Ł","listText":"short sellingTipical term for corruption đđ€Ł","text":"short sellingTipical term for corruption đđ€Ł","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/224826517758008","repostId":"1125284354","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1125284354","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1695890806,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1125284354?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-09-28 16:46","market":"us","language":"en","title":"How Likely Is AMC Stock to Undergo Another Short Squeeze?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1125284354","media":"The Street","summary":"After the big drop in its share price, short selling in AMC has eased. When fewer shares are available, it can be more difficult for short sellers to cover their positions without dramatically driving up the price.Cost-to-borrow: A scarcity of shares available for borrowing generates higher fees for short sellers. When there is too much demand for short trades, borrowing fees can skyrocket, leaving short sellers more vulnerable to covering positions.Technical breakouts: Stocks trading near support levels or severely oversold can attract both short-term and long-term traders, leading to increased buying pressure.Liquidity and trading volume: These two factors lead to greater volatility in price movement, usually motivated by a specific catalyst that drives investor sentiment.AMC's Current SetupThe recent phenomenon of short squeezes has been closely associated with stocks like AMC Entertainment due primarily to its immense popularity among retail investors during the meme frenzy that started in January 2021.In fact, as outlined in the company's Form 10-K, this represents one of the principal risks associated with its shares:âVolatility in our shares of our common stock by a 'short squeeze' in which coordinated trading activity causes a spike in the market price of our common stock as traders with a short position make market purchases to avoid or to mitigate potential losses, investors purchase at inflated prices unrelated to our financial performance or prospects, and may thereafter suffer substantial losses as prices decline once the level of short-covering purchases has abated.âUntil very recently this year, AMC met all the criteria indicative of a short squeeze setup.
Therefore, AMC stock get a âDâ grade and isnât a highly recommended investment for 2023.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMC":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3029,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":222782637789344,"gmtCreate":1695417842316,"gmtModify":1695417844745,"author":{"id":"4119226100765382","authorId":"4119226100765382","name":"Linlin Review","summary":"The Reserve Bank of Australia on Tuesday pressed ahead with a ninth straight increase to the officia","content":"

High inflation makes life difficult for people and damages the functioning of the economy,â Dr Lowe said in a decidedly hawkish statement following the meeting.

âAnd if high inflation were to become entrenched in peopleâs expectations, it would be very costly to reduce later.â That means âfurther increases in interest rates will be needed in coming monthsâ.

At 3.35 per cent, monthly repayments on a 25-year, $500,000 mortgage will have increased by $908 since May 2022, by $1362 for a $750,000 mortgage, and by $1816 for a $1 million loan, according to comparison website RateCity.

Inflation is the main game

While acknowledging the so-called âlag effectâ of existing interest rate rises to date, which means many households are yet to feel the full hit to the cost of living, the bankâs No. 1 priority remained taming inflation.

âThe board is seeking to return inflation to the 2-3 per cent range while keeping the economy on an even keel, but the path to achieving a soft landing remains a narrow one,â Dr Lowe said.

âIn assessing how much further interest rates need to increase, the board will be paying close attention to developments in the global economy, trends in household spending and the outlook for inflation and the labour market.

The RBA governor said there was uncertainty around the timing and extent of the expected and necessary slowdown in household spending.

âSome households have substantial savings buffers, but others are experiencing a painful squeeze on their budgets due to higher interest rates and the increase in the cost of living,â he said.

Previewing the bankâs quarterly statement on monetary policy due out on Friday, Dr Lowe said on Tuesday a forecast 1.5 per cent economic growth in 2023 and 2024 was little changed from October.

âThe recovery in spending on services following the lifting of COVID restrictions has largely run its course and the tighter financial conditions will constrain spending more broadly,â he said.

The central forecast for unemployment is an increase to 3.75 per cent by the end of this year and 4.5 per cent by mid-2025.

Innes Willox, chief executive of Australian Industry Group, said the prospect of further interest rate rises ahead was âsoberingâ news.

âThere are strong signs the desired slowdown in activity is beginning to take effect and, as we get further along the path of monetary tightening, the risk of overdoing the rate rises clearly intensifies,â Mr Willox said.

âIt is critical now that businesses, governments and employees exercise moderation in price setting and wages negotiations and avoid fuelling the inflation and inflation expectations.â

Cash rate could peak higher

A snap poll of 24 economists conducted by The Australian Financial Review on Friday showed 22 respondents expected the quarter-point increase, while the median forecast peak in the cash rate was 3.6 per cent.

That suggests just one more increase is due from the RBA, though the wording of the bankâs latest statement suggested it would peak higher.

Since May last year, the Reserve Bank has raised the cash rate on nine consecutive occasions, taking it from a record low 0.1 per cent to 3.35 per cent in the fastest monetary policy tightening cycle in a generation.

But of particular concern was the stronger-than-expected underlying result, which suggested strong momentum in prices towards the end of the year.

Underlying, or trimmed mean inflation, the RBAâs preferred measure that trims away large price movements, rose a 1.7 per cent over the quarter to 6.9 per cent annually.

Dr Lowe said while global factors explained much of the high inflation, âstrong domestic demand is adding to the inflationary pressures in a number of areas of the economyâ.

âInflation is expected to decline this year due to both global factors and slower growth in domestic demand,â he said.

Greens Treasury spokesman Nick McKim implied he was better qualified than the RBA to make monetary policy decisions and called on Treasurer Jim Chalmers to reverse the decision and ask Dr Lowe to resign.

âThis blast of interest rate increases were never the right response to inflation driven by supply shocks and corporate profiteering,â he said, despite the RBA and Treasury telling him and other Greens senators on multiple occasions that âcorporate profiteeringâ was not a primary cause of inflation and demand-side factors were playing into high inflation.

","source":"lsy1647818771712","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; High inflation makes life difficult for people and damages the functioning of the economy,â Dr Lowe said in a decidedly hawkish statement following the meeting.âAnd if high inflation were to become entrenched in peopleâs expectations, it would be very costly to reduce later.â That means âfurther increases in interest rates will be needed in coming monthsâ.At 3.35 per cent, monthly repayments on a 25-year, $500,000 mortgage will have increased by $908 since May 2022, by $1362 for a $750,000 mortgage, and by $1816 for a $1 million loan, according to comparison website RateCity.Inflation is the main gameWhile acknowledging the so-called âlag effectâ of existing interest rate rises to date, which means many households are yet to feel the full hit to the cost of living, the bankâs No. 1 priority remained taming inflation.âThe board is seeking to return inflation to the 2-3 per cent range while keeping the economy on an even keel, but the path to achieving a soft landing remains a narrow one,â Dr Lowe said.âIn assessing how much further interest rates need to increase, the board will be paying close attention to developments in the global economy, trends in household spending and the outlook for inflation and the labour market.The RBA governor said there was uncertainty around the timing and extent of the expected and necessary slowdown in household spending.âSome households have substantial savings buffers, but others are experiencing a painful squeeze on their budgets due to higher interest rates and the increase in the cost of living,â he said.Previewing the bankâs quarterly statement on monetary policy due out on Friday, Dr Lowe said on Tuesday a forecast 1.5 per cent economic growth in 2023 and 2024 was little changed from October.âThe recovery in spending on services following the lifting of COVID restrictions has largely run its course and the tighter financial conditions will constrain spending more broadly,â he said.The central forecast for unemployment is an increase to 3.75 per cent by the end of this year and 4.5 per cent by mid-2025.Innes Willox, chief executive of Australian Industry Group, said the prospect of further interest rate rises ahead was âsoberingâ news.âThere are strong signs the desired slowdown in activity is beginning to take effect and, as we get further along the path of monetary tightening, the risk of overdoing the rate rises clearly intensifies,â Mr Willox said.âIt is critical now that businesses, governments and employees exercise moderation in price setting and wages negotiations and avoid fuelling the inflation and inflation expectations.âCash rate could peak higherA snap poll of 24 economists conducted by The Australian Financial Review on Friday showed 22 respondents expected the quarter-point increase, while the median forecast peak in the cash rate was 3.6 per cent.That suggests just one more increase is due from the RBA, though the wording of the bankâs latest statement suggested it would peak higher.Since May last year, the Reserve Bank has raised the cash rate on nine consecutive occasions, taking it from a record low 0.1 per cent to 3.35 per cent in the fastest monetary policy tightening cycle in a generation.The poll also showed 18 respondents not forecasting any decrease in the cash rate this year, a view reinforced for many by the December quarter inflation data, which came in stronger than expected.At 1.9 per cent over the quarter and 7.8 per cent over the year, the result was well above market consensus, though below the RBAâs forecasts. Dr Lowe said the bank believed headline inflation was now beginning to fall.But of particular concern was the stronger-than-expected underlying result, which suggested strong momentum in prices towards the end of the year.Underlying, or trimmed mean inflation, the RBAâs preferred measure that trims away large price movements, rose a 1.7 per cent over the quarter to 6.9 per cent annually.Dr Lowe said while global factors explained much of the high inflation, âstrong domestic demand is adding to the inflationary pressures in a number of areas of the economyâ.âInflation is expected to decline this year due to both global factors and slower growth in domestic demand,â he said.Greens Treasury spokesman Nick McKim implied he was better qualified than the RBA to make monetary policy decisions and called on Treasurer Jim Chalmers to reverse the decision and ask Dr Lowe to resign.âThis blast of interest rate increases were never the right response to inflation driven by supply shocks and corporate profiteering,â he said, despite the RBA and Treasury telling him and other Greens senators on multiple occasions that âcorporate profiteeringâ was not a primary cause of inflation and demand-side factors were playing into high inflation.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"XJO.AU":0.9,"XAO.AU":0.9,"XKO.AU":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2311,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
