set of earnings for its fiscal 2022’s first half (1H2022).</p><p>Revenue surged by 62% year on year to S$79.8 million while net profit jumped 49% year on year to S$11.6 million.</p><p>In line with the good results, the group upped its interim dividend to S$0.01162, higher than the S$0.0098 paid out the year before.</p><p>Together with last year’s final and special dividends of S$0.00608 and S$0.00152, Nordic Group’s trailing 12-month dividend stands at S$0.01922, giving its shares a trailing dividend yield of 4.6%.</p><p>Even if we exclude last year’s special dividend, Nordic’s shares solutions, geospatial technology, and healthcare.</p><p>For its FY2022 ended 31 March 2022, Boustead Singapore reported an 8% year on year dip in revenue to S$631.8 million.</p><p>The decline was due to tough conditions in the oil and gas sector along with disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that affected its real estate solutions business.</p><p>Net profit, adjusted for one-off and exceptional items, fell by 28% year on year to S$32.3 million.</p><p>Free cash flow, however, remained healthy at S$52.4 million.</p><p>Despite the weaker results, the group has proposed a final dividend of S$0.025, taking total dividends for FY2022 to S$0.04, comparable to what was paid out in FY2021.</p><p>The group’s shares sport a dividend yield of 4.3%.</p><p>For FY2022, Boustead Singapore was awarded around S$193 million in new contracts, taking its order book backlog to S$274 million.</p><p>In addition, the group’s 54%-subsidiary Boustead Projects Limited (SGX: AVM) was awarded a record contract of around S$300 million last month for the design and build of an integrated manufacturing, logistics and office facility in Singapore.</p><p>This win takes Boustead Group’s solutions, vessel maintenance and repairs, and maintenance and overhaul (MRO) services to clients in the marine, offshore oil and gas, and petrochemical sectors.The group has a production facility in Suzhou, China, and an extensive network of sales agents that cover Singapore and China.Nordic Group reported an admirable set of earnings for its fiscal 2022’s first half (1H2022).Revenue surged by 62% year on year to S$79.8 million while net profit jumped 49% year on year to S$11.6 million.In line with the good results, the group upped its interim dividend to S$0.01162, higher than the S$0.0098 paid out the year before.Together with last year’s final and special dividends of S$0.00608 and S$0.00152, Nordic Group’s trailing 12-month dividend stands at S$0.01922, giving its shares a trailing However, there are several reasons why XLE is a less-than-ideal method for passive income investing. In thisarticle, we share some individual energy-sector picks that we believe offer superior risk-adjusted passive income relative to XLE.</p><h2>Reasons To Buy XLE</h2><p>Before we discuss the downsides of the fund, we need to first admit that there are many good reasons to invest in XLE, including its vastly diversified and completely passive exposure to the energy sector. As a result, &#34;know nothing investors&#34; - to borrow a term from Charlie Munger - get exposure to large-, mid-, and small-cap energy companies through the fund, giving them a well-balanced portfolio. With the portfolio being dominated by leading energy companies like Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX), the fund is well-positioned to deliver relatively low risk long-term returns that have a strong correlation to the energy industry.</p><p>On top of that, its paltry 0.10% expense ratio and significant liquidity due to having $33.16 billion in assets under management as of this writing mean that investors can trade in and out of, hold, or even trade options on this fund with little frictional loss. XLE enjoys narrow bid-ask spreads and charges investors a very low fee to manage their funds via its passive algorithm.</p><p>For perspective, one of the most popular actively managed energy funds - the BlackRock Energy and Resources CEF (BGR) - charges a lofty 1.11% expense ratio. To illustrate the difference in costs, $100,000 invested in XLE for a 20-year period at a 9% total return CAGR would result in paying a total of $10,194 in fees. The same amount invested in BGR at a similar assumed total return CAGR over the same period of time would result in a staggering $103,746 cost of fees. While BGR might (or might not) outperform XLE on a pre-fee basis, this enormous difference in fees places an enormous hurdle for BGR to overcome if it actually wants to generate alpha for investors net of fees over time.</p><h2>Reasons To Not Buy XLE</h2><p>There are three big reasons why passive income investors should not buy XLE right now.</p><p>First and foremost, as a yield instrument, it is not particularly attractive with only a 106-basis point spread between its dividend yield and long-term U.S. interest rates:</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/612a643750739f2b9f2e33e45459ed64\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"433\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>With interest rates widely expected to rise in the coming months and XLE&#39;s dividend yield being subject to risk if a severe recession were tocrush energy prices, it looks like share price downside could be in order for XLE.</p><p>Secondly, its 3.94% dividend yield - while certainly better than a lot of funds&#39; yields - is pretty paltry when viewed as a passive income source. Again, why - when we are very likely on the threshold of a recession - invest in a risky and volatile equity security like XLE when you can get far safer income and a higher yield from preferred equities (PFF)?</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f9066fa01f83c660a1f23b6b1401b69c\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"417\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>Last, but not least, XLE&#39;s asset allocation is very unbalanced. While the 0.10% management fee looks really attractive, it effectively is much higher than that. This is because its top two holdings - XOM and CVX - constitute ~44% of its total holdings and its top ten holdings make up a whopping 76.1% of its total holdings. Therefore, investors are really paying that asset management fee for the remaining 23.9% of the portfolio. With so much concentrated in its top two and even 10 holdings, it really is a heavy bet on the very largest energy companies. Since this is the case, why pay a management fee at all, no matter how small the percentage is?</p><h2>Investor Takeaway</h2><p>Instead of buying XLE in the current environment, we believe passive income seekers would be better served by investing in the energy midstream sector AMLP and <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MLPA\">MLPA</a>. We favor midstream over traditional E&amp;P energy businesses for the following reasons.</p><p>First, midstream offers a vastly superior dividend yield. For example, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AMLP\">AMLP</a> currently offers a 7.9% dividend yield, which is exactly twice the current yield offered by XLE. If you are planning on living solely off of dividend income during retirement (which we think is prudent) as opposed to selling shares to supplement dividend income, you can retire with half the principal invested in AMLP than in XLE.</p><p>Second, midstream cash flows (and therefore distributions) are generally much safer than with traditional E&amp;P companies. This is because pipeline contracts are often long-term and commodity and sometimes even volume resistant. As a result, midstream businesses generally generate remarkably stable cash flows through economic and industry downturns. In contrast, traditional E&amp;P companies often see dramatic cash flow volatility during energy price crashes and even recessions.</p><p>Third, the midstream sector is in exceptionally strong shape right now, with capital expenditure budgets declining, free cash flow increasing, distributions seeing accelerating growth, and balance sheets flush with cash and seeing all-time lows in leverage levels. As a result, it is arguably the most attractive risk-adjusted sector for passive income right now.</p><p>While funds like AMLP and MLPA are fine for those looking for instant diversification and a 1099 tax form, our favorite picks in the sector right now include investment grade K1-issuing MLPs like Energy Transfer (ET), Enterprise Products Partners (EPD), and Plains All American (PAA). In thisarticle, we share some individual energy-sector picks that we believe offer superior risk-adjusted passive income relative to XLE.Reasons To Buy XLEBefore we discuss the downsides of the fund, we need to first admit that there are many good reasons to invest in XLE, including its vastly diversified and completely passive exposure to the energy sector. As a result, \"know nothing investors\" - to borrow a term from Charlie Munger - get exposure to large-, mid-, and small-cap energy companies through the fund, giving them a well-balanced portfolio. With the portfolio being dominated by leading energy companies like Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX), the fund is well-positioned to deliver relatively low risk long-term returns that have a strong correlation to the energy industry.On top of that, its paltry 0.10% expense ratio and significant liquidity due to having $33.16 billion in assets under management as of this writing mean that investors can trade in and out of, hold, or even trade options on this fund with little frictional loss. XLE enjoys narrow bid-ask spreads and charges investors a very low fee to manage their funds via its passive algorithm.For perspective, one of the most popular actively managed energy funds - the BlackRock Energy and Resources CEF (BGR) - charges a lofty 1.11% expense ratio. To illustrate the difference in costs, $100,000 invested in XLE for a 20-year period at a 9% total return CAGR would result in paying a total of $10,194 in fees. The same amount invested in BGR at a similar assumed total return CAGR over the same period of time would result in a staggering $103,746 cost of fees. While BGR might (or might not) outperform XLE on a pre-fee basis, this enormous difference in fees places an enormous hurdle for BGR to overcome if it actually wants to generate alpha for investors net of fees over time.Reasons To Not Buy XLEThere are three big reasons why passive income investors should not buy XLE right now.First and foremost, as a yield instrument, it is not particularly attractive with only a 106-basis point spread between its dividend yield and long-term U.S. interest rates:Data by YChartsWith interest rates widely expected to rise in the coming months and XLE's dividend yield being subject to risk if a severe recession were tocrush energy prices, it looks like share price downside could be in order for XLE.Secondly, its 3.94% dividend yield - while certainly better than a lot of funds' yields - is pretty paltry when viewed as a passive income source. Again, why - when we are very likely on the threshold of a recession - invest in a risky and volatile equity security like XLE when you can get far safer income and a higher yield from preferred equities (PFF)?Data by YChartsLast, but not least, XLE's asset allocation is very unbalanced. While the 0.10% management fee looks really attractive, it effectively is much higher than that. This is because its top two holdings - XOM and CVX - constitute ~44% of its total holdings and its top ten holdings make up a whopping 76.1% of its total holdings. Therefore, investors are really paying that asset management fee for the remaining 23.9% of the portfolio. With so much concentrated in its top two and even 10 holdings, it really is a heavy bet on the very largest energy companies. Since this is the case, why pay a management fee at all, no matter how small the percentage is?Investor TakeawayInstead of buying XLE in the current environment, we believe passive income seekers would be better served by investing in the energy midstream sector AMLP and MLPA. We favor midstream over traditional E&P energy businesses for the following reasons.First, midstream offers a vastly superior dividend yield. For example, AMLP currently offers a 7.9% dividend yield, which is exactly twice the current yield offered by XLE. If you are planning on living solely off of dividend income during retirement (which we think is prudent) as opposed to selling shares to supplement dividend income, you can retire with half the principal invested in AMLP than in XLE.Second, midstream cash flows (and therefore distributions) are generally much safer than with traditional E&P companies. This is because pipeline contracts are often long-term and commodity and sometimes even volume resistant. As a result, midstream businesses generally generate remarkably stable cash flows through economic and industry downturns. In contrast, traditional E&P companies often see dramatic cash flow volatility during energy price crashes and even recessions.Third, the midstream sector is in exceptionally strong shape right now, with capital expenditure budgets declining, free cash flow increasing, distributions seeing accelerating growth, and balance sheets flush with cash and seeing all-time lows in leverage levels. As a result, it is arguably the most attractive risk-adjusted sector for passive income right now.While funds like AMLP and MLPA are fine for those looking for instant diversification and a 1099 tax form, our favorite picks in the sector right now include investment grade K1-issuing MLPs like Energy Transfer (ET), Enterprise Products Partners (EPD), and Plains All American (PAA). The firm’s second-quarter sales report conveyed a decline in quarterly sales for the first time in two years. Tesla produced 258,000 vehicles in the quarter and delivered 254,659, reconciling to a 17.9% year-over-year decrease. The S&P 500 (^GSPC 2.39%) is down nearly 19% year to date, while many of its constituents are dramatically deeper in the red.Beaten-down prices alone aren't enough of a reason to start scooping up stocks though, no matter how big their pullbacks might be. A company still has to be a name worth owning for the long haul, regardless of its price.And, that's a tough thing to figure out for the S&P 500's four worst performers for 2022 so far.What went wrongIf you're wondering, the biggest losers among the S&P 500's tickers so far this year are PayPal (PYPL 6.11%), Align Technology (ALGN 6.16%), Etsy (ETSY 4.80%), and Netflix (NFLX 7.65%), down 63%, 64%, 70%, and 75%, respectively, since the end of 2021. Ouch!At first blush, there's not a common thread. Netflix was crushed because, for the first time in its history, it lost subscribers. Align Technology (the name behind Invisalign dental braces) is struggling with the lingering impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. E-commerce platform Etsy is still trying to figure out what it is in a marketplace that includes competitors like Amazon, as well as empowering, DIY e-commerce platforms like those offered by Shopify. And PayPal? Despite continued revenue growth, investors still believe alternative payment options will chip away at its market share.There's more commonality to these setbacks, however, than there seems on the surface. With the exception of Align, investors were genuinely surprised these companies' smashing successes seen in 2020 and into 2021 -- in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic -- didn't persist into 2022.In other words, the wrong kind of surprise can wreak havoc on a stock.As for Align, while it never really thrived or suffered due to the coronavirus contagion (aside from logistical challenges linked to lockdowns), it's still dealing with the pandemic's fallout that's lasting far longer than anyone initially feared it might. Now the specter of an economic recession is prompting some consumers to rethink the immediate need for straighter teeth. Even so, it's an unexpected headwind that's rattling investors, turning them into sellers.OverzealousOn the surface, it seems somewhat irrelevant. While the market may not have seen these struggles brewing, the sell-offs these tickers have dished out still just reflect how these companies are performing right now.Except, that may not quite be the case.Yes, the direction these stocks have been moving jibes with the turn these companies' businesses have taken. The depth to which investors respond to lackluster results, however, can vary depending on expectations. If the market knows that so-so earnings are in the cards, the revelation of lackluster numbers doesn't send investors into a panic...when the selling really ramps up. If investors know to brace for bad news, then stocks are typically eased into a more appropriate price to reflect that reality.Image source: Getty Images.The alternative? Shock takes an exaggerated toll on a stock's price. That's largely what's happened here with these four names.Shock also distracts people from looking at the future rather than the past, when they should be doing just that.Perhaps most problematic, however, is that these sell-offs have reached extreme proportions only because stocks tend to move in a herd. Once the selling stampede starts, it's tough to stop it, even when lower prices may not be merited for most of them.Think bigger-pictureThe question remains, however: Should you buy the S&P 500's four worst-performing stocks of 2022 so far?This isn't always the case, but right now, yes -- these stocks are too sold-off for long-term, buy-and-hold investors interested in them to simply pass them up.While the pullbacks made enough sense, fear and panic have arguably taken more of a toll than they should have. Investors, as a crowd, are starting to think a little more level-headed though. While they know 2022 could be tough, they're also starting to see these aforementioned companies have viable plans to deal with it.Netflix, for instance, could launch an ad-supported version of its streaming service as early as this year, appealing to value-minded senses that will be heightened if the economy is weak. While PayPal may be facing a kind of competition it's never faced before, it's also innovating new ways to keep its place as the world's biggest digital payment middleman. Just last month, it unveiled a cash-back credit card, and late last year allowed e-commerce sites built by Wix to offer buy-now, pay-later loans to their customers. Align and Etsy are adjusting, too.Yet, none of these stocks' already-overblown sell-offs reflect these initiatives.And it's not just these four companies. A bunch of great stocks have been dragged lower than they deserve to be, for all the wrong reasons.That's not to suggest any of these names have hit their absolute bottom, mind you. They may still lose more ground. It is to say, however, now that the dust of the knee-jerk selling is starting to settle as we push past the hysteria, the market's starting to realize that at least with some stocks, the selling was more than a little overboard. That makes many of these names great buys now, even if we're not all the way through the turbulence just yet. However, there are several reasons why XLE is a less-than-ideal method for passive income investing. In thisarticle, we share some individual energy-sector picks that we believe offer superior risk-adjusted passive income relative to XLE.</p><h2>Reasons To Buy XLE</h2><p>Before we discuss the downsides of the fund, we need to first admit that there are many good reasons to invest in XLE, including its vastly diversified and completely passive exposure to the energy sector. As a result, &#34;know nothing investors&#34; - to borrow a term from Charlie Munger - get exposure to large-, mid-, and small-cap energy companies through the fund, giving them a well-balanced portfolio. With the portfolio being dominated by leading energy companies like Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX), the fund is well-positioned to deliver relatively low risk long-term returns that have a strong correlation to the energy industry.</p><p>On top of that, its paltry 0.10% expense ratio and significant liquidity due to having $33.16 billion in assets under management as of this writing mean that investors can trade in and out of, hold, or even trade options on this fund with little frictional loss. XLE enjoys narrow bid-ask spreads and charges investors a very low fee to manage their funds via its passive algorithm.</p><p>For perspective, one of the most popular actively managed energy funds - the BlackRock Energy and Resources CEF (BGR) - charges a lofty 1.11% expense ratio. To illustrate the difference in costs, $100,000 invested in XLE for a 20-year period at a 9% total return CAGR would result in paying a total of $10,194 in fees. The same amount invested in BGR at a similar assumed total return CAGR over the same period of time would result in a staggering $103,746 cost of fees. While BGR might (or might not) outperform XLE on a pre-fee basis, this enormous difference in fees places an enormous hurdle for BGR to overcome if it actually wants to generate alpha for investors net of fees over time.</p><h2>Reasons To Not Buy XLE</h2><p>There are three big reasons why passive income investors should not buy XLE right now.</p><p>First and foremost, as a yield instrument, it is not particularly attractive with only a 106-basis point spread between its dividend yield and long-term U.S. interest rates:</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/612a643750739f2b9f2e33e45459ed64\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"433\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>With interest rates widely expected to rise in the coming months and XLE&#39;s dividend yield being subject to risk if a severe recession were tocrush energy prices, it looks like share price downside could be in order for XLE.</p><p>Secondly, its 3.94% dividend yield - while certainly better than a lot of funds&#39; yields - is pretty paltry when viewed as a passive income source. Again, why - when we are very likely on the threshold of a recession - invest in a risky and volatile equity security like XLE when you can get far safer income and a higher yield from preferred equities (PFF)?</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f9066fa01f83c660a1f23b6b1401b69c\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"417\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>Last, but not least, XLE&#39;s asset allocation is very unbalanced. While the 0.10% management fee looks really attractive, it effectively is much higher than that. This is because its top two holdings - XOM and CVX - constitute ~44% of its total holdings and its top ten holdings make up a whopping 76.1% of its total holdings. Therefore, investors are really paying that asset management fee for the remaining 23.9% of the portfolio. With so much concentrated in its top two and even 10 holdings, it really is a heavy bet on the very largest energy companies. Since this is the case, why pay a management fee at all, no matter how small the percentage is?</p><h2>Investor Takeaway</h2><p>Instead of buying XLE in the current environment, we believe passive income seekers would be better served by investing in the energy midstream sector AMLP and <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MLPA\">MLPA</a>. We favor midstream over traditional E&amp;P energy businesses for the following reasons.</p><p>First, midstream offers a vastly superior dividend yield. For example, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AMLP\">AMLP</a> currently offers a 7.9% dividend yield, which is exactly twice the current yield offered by XLE. If you are planning on living solely off of dividend income during retirement (which we think is prudent) as opposed to selling shares to supplement dividend income, you can retire with half the principal invested in AMLP than in XLE.</p><p>Second, midstream cash flows (and therefore distributions) are generally much safer than with traditional E&amp;P companies. This is because pipeline contracts are often long-term and commodity and sometimes even volume resistant. As a result, midstream businesses generally generate remarkably stable cash flows through economic and industry downturns. In thisarticle, we share some individual energy-sector picks that we believe offer superior risk-adjusted passive income relative to XLE.Reasons To Buy XLEBefore we discuss the downsides of the fund, we need to first admit that there are many good reasons to invest in XLE, including its vastly diversified and completely passive exposure to the energy sector. As a result, \"know nothing investors\" - to borrow a term from Charlie Munger - get exposure to large-, mid-, and small-cap energy companies through the fund, giving them a well-balanced portfolio. With the portfolio being dominated by leading energy companies like Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX), the fund is well-positioned to deliver relatively low risk long-term returns that have a strong correlation to the energy industry.On top of that, its paltry 0.10% expense ratio and significant liquidity due to having $33.16 billion in assets under management as of this writing mean that investors can trade in and out of, hold, or even trade options on this fund with little frictional loss. XLE enjoys narrow bid-ask spreads and charges investors a very low fee to manage their funds via its passive algorithm.For perspective, one of the most popular actively managed energy funds - the BlackRock Energy and Resources CEF (BGR) - charges a lofty 1.11% expense ratio. To illustrate the difference in costs, $100,000 invested in XLE for a 20-year period at a 9% total return CAGR would result in paying a total of $10,194 in fees. The same amount invested in BGR at a similar assumed total return CAGR over the same period of time would result in a staggering $103,746 cost of fees. While BGR might (or might not) outperform XLE on a pre-fee basis, this enormous difference in fees places an enormous hurdle for BGR to overcome if it actually wants to generate alpha for investors net of fees over time.Reasons To Not Buy XLEThere are three big reasons why passive income investors should not buy XLE right now.First and foremost, as a yield instrument, it is not particularly attractive with only a 106-basis point spread between its dividend yield and long-term U.S. interest rates:Data by YChartsWith interest rates widely expected to rise in the coming months and XLE's dividend yield being subject to risk if a severe recession were tocrush energy prices, it looks like share price downside could be in order for XLE.Secondly, its 3.94% dividend yield - while certainly better than a lot of funds' yields - is pretty paltry when viewed as a passive income source. This is because its top two holdings - XOM and CVX - constitute ~44% of its total holdings and its top ten holdings make up a whopping 76.1% of its total holdings. Therefore, investors are really paying that asset management fee for the remaining 23.9% of the portfolio. With so much concentrated in its top two and even 10 holdings, it really is a heavy bet on the very largest energy companies. Since this is the case, why pay a management fee at all, no matter how small the percentage is?Investor TakeawayInstead of buying XLE in the current environment, we believe passive income seekers would be better served by investing in the energy midstream sector AMLP and MLPA. We favor midstream over traditional E&P energy businesses for the following reasons.First, midstream offers a vastly superior dividend yield.
