The bond market has delivered its worst year on record, the S&P 500 produced its worst first-half return in 52 years, and the nation's central bank is aggressively raising interest rates as the stock market plunges. There simply haven't been many safe havens for investors.Yet in spite of these challenges, most Wall Street analysts maintain an optimistic tone. The reason being that recessions and bear markets tend to be short-lived. With the major U.S. indexes eventually erasing corrections, crashes, and bear markets over time, it generally pays to be an optimist.However, some analysts are taking optimism to an extreme. Based on the highest price targets issued by Wall Street, the following three supercharged growth stocks offer upside ranging between 393% and 1,153% in 2023.Plug Power: Implied upside of 393%The first fast-paced company with serious upside is hydrogen fuel-cell solution provider Plug Power. According to analyst Amit Dayal of H.C. Wainwright, Plug Power can reach $78. For those of you keeping score at home, this would work out to a near-quintupling in the company's share price in 2023.Dayal's optimism stems from a number of catalysts. First and foremost is the ongoing shift by most developed countries toward a renewable-energy-driven future. Plug expects to play a key role in supplying fuel cells for vehicles and industrial equipment (e.g., forklifts), as well as building the infrastructure needed to support fuel cell vehicle refueling.Additionally, Dayal is excited about management's efforts to improve operating margin while continuing to rapidly growing sales. Earlier this year, Dayal cited the opening of the company's fuel cell gigafactory in New York (this occurred in mid-November) and the rollout of next-generation GenDrive units, which are less costly to service, as reasons the company's margin can improve.But the biggest catalyst of all might just be Plug Power's ability to forge partnerships and joint ventures. It landed an equity investment from SK Group in early 2021 and is working with Renault via a joint venture to go after a significant portion of Europe's light commercial vehicle market. These partnerships should help lift Plug from just over $500 million in sales in 2021 to a company-forecast $3 billion in revenue by 2025.However -- and this is the big \"however\" -- Plug Power isn't profitable, and the growing likelihood of a U.S. recession, coupled with high inflation in most developed countries, could coerce businesses and governments to postpone their green-energy transition/spending to a later date.With Plug Power already valued at north of $9 billion, a lot of its future sales growth appears to be baked in. Until the company can plant its proverbial feet in the ground and deliver on the bottom line, a $78 price target will be hard to justify.Bionano Genomics: Implied upside of 474%A second supercharged growth stock with monumental upside, at least according to one Wall Street analyst, is small-cap genome analysis company Bionano Genomics. If Oppenheimer analyst Francois Brisebois is correct, Bionano shares will hit $12 in 2023, which would represent an upside of a cool 474%.Although Brisebois is the current analyst covering Bionano for Oppenheimer, it was his predecessor, Kevin DeGeeter, who primarily laid out the case for Bionano Genomics running to $12. In DeGeeter's view, Bionano's optical genome mapping (OGM) system, known as Saphyr, has demonstrated that it's faster, less expensive, and in many ways more effective at identifying structural genome variations than other OGM systems.One thing investors don't have to worry about with Bionano Genomics is a lack of data demonstrating Saphyr's efficacy. Over the past two years, the company has released numerous studies and data points extolling Saphyr's ability to recognize structural variations in everything from various types of cancer to genetic disorders and recurrent pregnancy loss. In theory, Saphyr can play a key role in helping researchers and drug developers fight hard-to-treat diseases.Another positive for Bionano Genomics is its healthy cash position. After its share price went parabolic to begin 2021, management wisely chose to issue stock to raise plenty of capital. The company ended September with approximately $180 million in cash, cash equivalents, and available-for-sale securities. That's more than enough to offset quarterly losses as the company continues to innovate and look for ways to expand Saphyr's utility.So, why is Bionano Genomics at $2.09 per share and not $12? The answer to that question largely has to do with Saphyr not being an approved diagnostic system by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Without this approval, Saphyr's utility is limited within the United States. It's not exactly clear if and when Saphyr might get the green light from the FDA, either.Although Bionano's cash does provide a somewhat safe floor, the ceiling proposed by Brisebois and DeGeeter doesn't seem achievable without FDA support.Novavax: Implied upside of 1,153%The third supercharged growth stock with truly jaw-dropping upside potential, based on the price target of one analyst, is biotech stock Novavax. According to H.C. Wainwright analyst Vernon Bernardino, who last updated his firm's price target in March 2022, Novavax is poised to hit (drum roll) $207 per share. That represents a whopping 1,153% upside from where shares ended this past week.Bernardino's price target, which sits as the high-water mark among covering analysts, was based on the idea that Novavax would receive authorization to sell its protein-based COVID-19 vaccine, NVX-CoV2373, worldwide. Whereas the Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines rely on messenger-RNA (mRNA) technology, the Novavax vaccine is differentiated in that it relies on an older and more traditional application of introducing harmless pieces of spike protein to teach a person's immune system how to fight and/or prevent infection. The thinking here is that folks who were leery of getting an mRNA vaccine might be more willing to receive an initial series or booster shots from Novavax's protein-based COVID-19 vaccine.Something else that's working in Novavax's favor is the efficacy of NVX-CoV2373. Only three COVID-19 vaccines have reached the highly coveted 90% vaccine efficacy (VE) level. Those being Moderna (94.1%), Pfizer/BioNTech (95%), and Novavax (90.4%) with its U.S./Mexico trial in 2021. Even though VE is just one measure of efficacy, it's a strong enough headline number to keep Novavax in the global rotation as a major initial series and booster vaccine player.Similar to Bionano, Novavax is swimming with cash. The company ended the third quarter with $1.28 billion in cash and cash equivalents, which is more than enough to cover the future repayment of its convertible notes and fuel ongoing research. In particular, Novavax could be one of the first drug developers to bring a combination vaccine targeting COVID-19 and influenza to market.But even being a shareholder, I don't in any way foresee $207 as a viable price target for Novavax in 2023. With the company enduring numerous emergency-use filing delays and production snafus, it missed out on most of the low-hanging fruit in developed markets in 2022. Moving forward, it'll primarily be focusing its attention on recurring booster shots in developed countries and initial series vaccinations in emerging markets.While I believe Novavax is an amazing value at its current share price, it could take a couple of quarters before Wall Street realizes that as well. If sales growth continues, losses shrink, and the company advances its combination vaccines, it could certainly end 2023 on a much higher note than it'll finish 2022.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NVAX":0.9,"BNGO":0.63,"PLUG":0.63}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":702,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9917292864,"gmtCreate":1665528104958,"gmtModify":1676537619779,"author":{"id":"4099796716910130","authorId":"4099796716910130","name":"Sunday128","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f2cc38fb8b7ce0ae876f3a7b6154dfe0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4099796716910130","idStr":"4099796716910130"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Okay","listText":"Okay","text":"Okay","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":11,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9917292864","repostId":"2274656821","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2274656821","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1665501541,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2274656821?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-11 23:19","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Stocks to Avoid This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2274656821","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These investments seem pretty vulnerable right now.","content":"<div>\n<p>October got off to an encouraging start, but it didn't take long for the markets to start selling off. Stocks still generally closed out the week higher. The \"three stocks to avoid\" in my column last week that I thought were going to lose to the market -- Apple, Conagra Brands, and Gold Fields -- rose 1.3%%, 0.7%, and 5.9%, respectively, averaging out to a 2.6% uptick.The S&P 500 experienced a 1.5% move lower, better than two of the three stocks but still short of the overall return. I was wrong. I have, though, been right in 32 of the past 51 weeks, or 63% of the time.Now let's look at the week ahead. I see Walgreens Boots Alliance, Blue Apron, and, again, Gold Fields as stocks you might want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.1. Walgreens Boots AllianceIt isn't easy being a drugstore operator these days. New platforms are upending and undercutting the way we fulfill prescriptions. E-commerce and third-party delivery apps are eating away at the need to drive to a drugstore for stocked essentials. It's against this grim backdrop that Walgreens Boots Alliance will step up to deliver financial results this week for the quarter that ended in August.On the surface it may seem insane to bet against Walgreens Boots Alliance at this point. The stock hit a new 10-year low on Friday, and it's now trading for just five times trailing earnings. The stock is yielding a record high of 6.2%. This could make it a magnet for income-chasing value investors, but you may want to wait until it announces its quarterly results this week. Analysts see revenue and earnings per share declining 6% and 34%, respectively.Analysts see revenue recovering next year, but Wall Street's eyeing just 1% growth. The bottom line is expected to keep shrinking, and it's easy to see why. This is a highly leveraged company. Having more than $38 billion in debt is a bad look heading into a time where refinancing rates are skyrocketing. Walgreens Boots Alliance may seem like a smart idea at five times trailing earnings, but would you say the same if I told you that it's fetching seven times forward earnings? The fundamentals are going to the wrong way.2. Blue ApronOne of last week's biggest losers was Blue Apron. The pioneer of home-delivered meal kits shed more than half of its value, down 56% after announcing a stock offering. You may not think announcing a modest $15 million at-the-market equity offering would result in the shedding of more than $100 million in market cap, but think about it. If the news sank the stock and Blue Apron went on with the offering anyway, it's a sign of how desperate it has become for liquidity.There's a lot going wrong here. Growth is a missing ingredient, as revenue has failed to top a 2% year-over-year gain in each of the last four years. Losses are mounting, and Blue Apron has posted a larger deficit than analysts were expecting in at least the last four quarters. With too many competitors promoting aggressively to win their way into your kitchen, this is not going to be moneymaker for investors in the near term.3. Gold FieldsI went with Gold Fields last week because I felt gold miners would slip if the market bounced back in October. I got the second part right. Stocks did bounce back. Unfortunately for this particular call, gold prices moved even higher. It also only helped Gold Fields that it would schedule a shareholder meeting to vote on a pending deal for a Canadian gold miner that was initially valued at $6.7 billion.Gold isn't an inverse market fund. It may be a flight to safety when there's turmoil, but the shiny previous metal has still lost value this year. I still think investors will rotate out of gold if this early October rally continues into the new trading week.It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Walgreens, Blue Apron, and Gold Fields this week.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"APRN":0.9,"GFI":0.9,"WBA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":561,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9962731886,"gmtCreate":1669847271046,"gmtModify":1676538253942,"author":{"id":"4099796716910130","authorId":"4099796716910130","name":"Sunday128","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f2cc38fb8b7ce0ae876f3a7b6154dfe0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4099796716910130","idStr":"4099796716910130"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Okay","listText":"Okay","text":"Okay","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9962731886","repostId":"1106229901","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":625,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9960086109,"gmtCreate":1668033972701,"gmtModify":1676537999876,"author":{"id":"4099796716910130","authorId":"4099796716910130","name":"Sunday128","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f2cc38fb8b7ce0ae876f3a7b6154dfe0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4099796716910130","idStr":"4099796716910130"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Okay lol","listText":"Okay lol","text":"Okay lol","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9960086109","repostId":"1110949142","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1110949142","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1668033353,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1110949142?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-11-10 06:35","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Binance Backs Out of FTX Rescue, Citing Finances, Investigations","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1110949142","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Crypto exchange reverses decision a day after announcing itFTX customers could now be on the hook fo","content":"<div>\n<p>Crypto exchange reverses decision a day after announcing itFTX customers could now be on the hook for steep lossesChangpeng “CZ” Zhao walked away from his bailout for Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX.com ...</p>\n\n<a href=\"https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-11-09/binance-seen-likely-to-balk-at-ftx-deal-after-spotting-deep-hole?srnd=premium-asia\">Source Link</a>\n\n</div>\n","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Its executives found themselves staring into a financial black hole -- a gap between liabilities and assets at FTX that’s probably in the billions, and possibly more than $6 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter.On top of that, US regulators are circling FTX, investigating whether the firm properly handled customer funds, as well as its relationship with other parts of Bankman-Fried’s crypto empire, including his trading house Alameda Research, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday.Zhao himself admitted there was no“master plan”to take over FTX. His about-face leaves the fate of the beleaguered exchange and its clients uncertain and sparked renewed concerns about contagion risks across the crypto industry. Digital assets tumbled anew, with Bitcoin falling below $16,000 after Binance’s announcement.Changpeng ZhaoPhotographer: Zed Jameson/Bloomberg“As a result of corporate due diligence, as well as the latest news reports regarding mishandled customer funds and alleged US agency investigations, we have decided that we will not pursue the potential acquisition of FTX.com,” Binance said in the statement.For crypto investors, the stakes are high for what happens next. The downfall of Bankman-Fried, the industry’s onetime 30-year-old wunderkind, has cast doubt about which institutions are safe in the still-loosely regulated market.While Bankman-Fried is barely a billionaire anymore, Zhao remains the richest person in crypto, with a fortune estimated at $16.4 billion by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. But even Zhao hasn’t been immune to tumbling crypto prices: His net worth peaked at $97 billion in January.Coinbase Chief Executive Officer Brian Armstrong said Tuesday in a Bloomberg TV interview that if the deal with Binance fell through, it would likely mean FTX customers would take losses.“That’s a not a good thing for anybody,” he said.For crypto market prices: CRYP; for top crypto news: TOP CRYPTO.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"MBTmain":0.9,"BTCmain":0.9,"GBTC":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":599,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9097936334,"gmtCreate":1645312877042,"gmtModify":1676534016794,"author":{"id":"4099796716910130","authorId":"4099796716910130","name":"Sunday128","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f2cc38fb8b7ce0ae876f3a7b6154dfe0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4099796716910130","idStr":"4099796716910130"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like pls","listText":"Like pls","text":"Like pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9097936334","repostId":"2212268576","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2212268576","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1645227827,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2212268576?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-19 07:43","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The Smartest Stocks to Buy if the Stock Market Plunges","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2212268576","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"When crashes and corrections rear their head, so does the opportunity for investors.","content":"<div>\n<p>Since the beginning of the year, Wall Street and investors have been given a reminder that stock market crashes and corrections are perfectly normal occurrences. The double-digit percentage decline the S&P 500 experienced in January marks the 39th correction of at least 10% for the widely followed index since the beginning of 1950.But where there are crashes and corrections, there's also opportunity. That's because every sizable decline in the S&P 500 has eventually been put in the rearview mirror by a bull market rally. If the broader market were to continue to plunge, the following four companies would be some of the smartest stocks to buy.Image source: Getty Images.Berkshire HathawayIn a world where growth stocks have dominated, perhaps no company has more consistently outperformed the broader market for decades than Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A)(NYSE:BRK.B).Berkshire might not be a household name, but its CEO, billionaire Warren Buffett, certainly is. Since taking the reins in 1965, Buffett has led his company's Class A shares (BRK.A) to an average annual gain of better than 20%. In aggregate, we're talking about a total gain of around 3,800,000% in 57 years.One of the key reasons the Oracle of Omaha is such a successful investor is due to his company's focus on cyclical businesses. Cyclical companies thrive when the economy is running on all cylinders and struggle when recessions arise. Buffett fully understands that recessions typically last for a few months to a couple of quarters. Comparatively, periods of expansion usually last for years, if not a decade. Warren Buffett is allowing time to be his ally and playing a simple numbers game that works in favor of ultra-long-term investors.The other not-so-subtle secret to Berkshire Hathaway's outperformance is dividend income. This year, Buffett's company is on pace to collect over $5 billion in payouts, which works out to a yield relative to cost of around 5%. Dividend stocks are almost always profitable and time-tested. This means Buffett and his team have packed Berkshire's portfolio with successful businesses that can navigate whatever the U.S. economy and stock market throw their way.Image source: Getty Images.Walgreens Boots AllianceHealthcare stocks are usually a wise place to put your money to work if the market plunges. That's why pharmacy chain and value stock Walgreens Boots Alliance (NASDAQ:WBA) would be such a smart buy.No matter how well or poorly the U.S. economy performs, or how high the year-over-year inflation figure rises, people don't get to choose when they get sick or what ailment(s) they develop. This means demand for prescription drugs, medical devices, and healthcare services tends to remain steady in any economic environment.What specifically makes Walgreens so intriguing is the company's multipoint growth strategy targeting higher margins and a faster organic growth rate. To lift margins, the company has reduced its annual operating expenses by more than $2 billion a full fiscal year ahead of schedule.Meanwhile, to boost the company's organic growth rate, Walgreens is spending aggressively on two key initiatives. First, it's actively promoting direct-to-consumer sales. Even though the company's brick-and-mortar locations will account for the lion's share of revenue, online sales are an easy way to boost organic growth as consumers shift their buying habits.Second, Walgreens has partnered with, and invested in, VillageMD to open upwards of 600 co-located, full-service clinics by 2025 in over 30 U.S. markets. These physician-staffed clinics can be used to funnel repeat clients to the company's higher-margin pharmacy.Image source: Getty Images.Palo Alto NetworksAnother exceptionally smart stock to buy if the market plunges is cybersecurity powerhouse and growth stock Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ:PANW).If you're noticing a theme with this list, it's that highly defensive sectors and industries are a smart place to put your money to work when corrections arise. Cybersecurity is a sustained double-digit growth trend which has become a basic necessity for businesses of all sizes that have an online or cloud-based presence. Hackers and robots simply don't care if Wall Street has a rough day.There are two key reasons Palo Alto makes for such an impressive growth story. To begin with, it's undergoing a business transformation that's emphasizing subscription services. Even though the company continues to sell physical firewall products, subscription services provide better long-term margins and less revenue lumpiness. Over time, a larger percentage of total sales will derive from these higher-margin channels.Palo Alto's other major growth driver is its many bolt-on acquisitions. Management hasn't been afraid to deploy capital in order to expand its product portfolio or broaden its pool of potential customers. These acquisitions have been pivotal in helping Palo Alto reach new small and medium-sized businesses.Image source: Getty Images.Bank of AmericaA fourth and final company that would be one of the smartest stocks to buy if the market plunges is money-center giant Bank of America (NYSE:BAC).Bank stocks like BofA are highly cyclical. Even though they can occasionally get caught up in the short-term emotions that weigh down stocks, they benefit immensely from the natural expansion of the U.S. and global economy over time. This allows patient investors in large bank stocks to build their wealth steadily over time. Not surprisingly, Bank of America is Warren Buffett's second-largest holding.What makes Bank of America such a perfect buy at the moment (and if the market continues to fall) is the upcoming shift in the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. With U.S. inflation hitting a 40-year high in January, the nation's central bank has no choice but to aggressively begin raising interest rates. No bank stock is more interest-sensitive than BofA. In its year-end report, the company noted that a 100-basis-point parallel shift in the interest rate yield curve would add an estimated $6.5 billion in net interest income. In other words, the more inflation becomes an issue, the likelier BofA is to see a big boost to its bottom line.Also, as I've previously pointed out, Bank of America's digital push is really paying dividends. Over the past three years, it's added 5 million new digital active customers and seen the aggregate number of loan sales completed online or via app jump from 31% to 49%. Investors large and small like to follow his portfolio moves. That’s not surprising. The “Oracle of Omaha” is considered to be one of the greatest investors of all time.On Aug 15, Berkshire filed its quarterly 13F filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This report covers the company’s holdings as of June 30, 2022. Last quarter, macro fears led to a considerable pullback for stocks, especially during June.Yet while Buffett’s company exited or trimmed several of its holdings, Berkshire added to many of its existing positions. In addition, the firm just recently announced another big increase to its position in one of its largest positions.So, what are these Warren Buffett stocks that the legendary investor is buying while others are selling, in line with his “be greedy when others are fearful” maxim? These five, are a mix of value stocks, “wonderful business at a fair price” names, and even a merger arbitrage play.TickerCompanyPriceALLYAlly Financial$34.98AAPLApple$169.47ATVIActivision Blizzard$79.16OXYOccidental Petroleum$74.04PARAParamount Global$25.28Ally Financial Per Whalewisdom, which tracks 13F filings, Berkshire Hathaway increased its position in financial services company Ally Financial (NYSE:ALLY) by 234% last quarter.Formerly known as GMAC, it took on its current name after the bankruptcy of its former corporate parent, General Motors (NYSE:GM) in 2009. Already diversifying away from its auto lending roots under GM’s ownership, over the past decade it’s been transforming itself into something more like a fintech company than an automaker’s finance division.Negative sentiment about the economy is weighing heavily on ALLY stock. Shares are down around 33% in the past year. Yet with its low valuation (less than 5x earnings), Buffett may believe it has become oversold. Concerns about an “auto loan crisis” could ultimately prove to be overblown. If this happens, the stock could make a big jump from its current trading range.Apple Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is the largest of the Warren Buffett stocks, and not only because it has a $2.7 trillion market capitalization. It makes up 40.8% of Berkshire’s portfolio of U.S.-listed equities.Last quarter, Buffett continued to add to Berkshire’s AAPL stock position, purchasing an additional 3.9 million shares. Buffett’s holding in this stock is a good example of his “wonderful business at a fair price” philosophy put into practice. This strategy entails buying stocks that aren’t necessarily “cheap,” but can generate above-average returns.This is due to factors like a deep economic moat, a strong balance sheet, and strong cash flow generation abilities. The tech behemoth fits these criteria. That said, shares have zoomed higher since the end of last quarter. One can argue Buffett got a “more than fair price,” assuming he made his latest purchases during the May/June sell-offs.Activision Blizzard What’s Warren Buffett’s angle with Activision Blizzard (ATVI)? Neither a value nor a “wonderful business” play, this is a merger arbitrage position for Berkshire Hathaway. Merger arbitrage is the strategy of buying stocks ahead of an announced mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transaction.There’s typically a spread between trading price and deal price, given the uncertainty over whether an M&A transaction will go through. With ATVI stock, there’s concern that its tentative acquirer, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) will not receive regulatory approval to complete the deal. This has resulted in a big merger arbitrage spread.In short, Buffett is betting big the deal goes through. If he’s right, Berkshire could see around a 20% gain. Given his decades of experience with similar “merger arb” trades, this such wager could result in a quick profit for this “buy and hold” investor.Occidental Petroleum Spiking oil prices have resulted in a triple-digit gain for Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXY) shares so far this year, yet its growing status as a Warren Buffett stock may be why it continues to climb.Buffett has been involved with the oil and gas company since 2019. That year, he helped finance its takeover of Anadarko Petroleum. At the time, Buffett’s firm bought $10 million in preferred shares and received warrants to buy 80 million shares of OXY stock.Flash forward to 2022. After its pandemic crash, and post-pandemic recovery, Buffett began buying Occidental’s common shares on the open market, just as it was surging due to the Russia/Ukraine conflict. Still buying, Berkshire has received the regulatory go-ahead to up its stake to 50%, if it so chooses. It remains to be seen whether he buys the company outright, but he likely sees more upside for this top-performing stock.Paramount Global“Old media” stocks like Paramount Global (NASDAQ:PARA) are out of favor right now. The market is skeptical about whether it can make the transition to a streaming-focused business model. Especially as even streaming-only companies like Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) struggle with subscriber growth.Yet based on Berkshire’s nearly $2 billion position in PARA stock, it’s clear Buffett is taking the contrarian view. There’s a lot pointing to going against the grain being the better move. As InvestorPlace’s Josh Enomoto argued last month, shares are modestly undervalued. Investors may be overestimating the future impact of further “cord cutting.”The company’s two streaming platforms (Paramount Plus, PlutoTV) continue to report subscriber growth. The market may be underestimating how successful it’ll be with its streaming pivot. In time, streaming could end up boosting its earnings. This, plus a market re-rating, could send the stock to much higher prices.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"QLD":0.6,"OXY":1,"NQmain":0.6,"AAPL":1,"BRK.A":0.9,"GM":1,"QNETCN":0.6,"SQQQ":0.6,"QID":0.6,"QQQ":0.6,"MNQmain":0.6,"PSQ":0.6,"PARA":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":819,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
