It owns a powerful collection of entertainment properties. And yet the stock has fallen by over 45% since peaking in early 2021. The shares are down by 32% in 2022 alone. However, there's a lot to unpack here before you hit the buy button. This makes sense, that doesn'tStock markets are often considered rational, but that's really when you look at the long term. Over short periods of time, Wall Street can make some pretty strange choices. For example, when the coronavirus pandemic first hit in 2020, Disney's stock fell sharply. That was pretty logical, given that its amusement parks were shut down and the movies it made couldn't be released to theaters shut down by government fiat. Not shockingly, earnings were ugly. It got so bad that Disney eliminated its dividend.Image source: Getty Images. And then something unusual happened. The stock took off like a rocket ship, more than doubling in value between its pandemic lows and its early 2021 highs. The big story was the company's streaming business, which latched onto the digital theme driving many stocks as people worked from home and social distanced from each other. The company did achieve notable success as it sought to compete with streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon. However, Disney's financial results didn't recover back to pre-pandemic levels, so the price spike appeared more emotionally driven than fundamentally sound. Not surprisingly, as the euphoria wore off, and things like financial results started to gain more sway, the stock started to sell off again. Now, the shares are back to about where they were when the pandemic first hit. Is that a second chance to buy this iconic name, or just a reflection of reality?Positive and negative signsAs noted, Disney's earnings are not back to pre-pandemic levels. So while the entertainment giant's business is recovering, it has not fully recovered. There are some notable reasons for this, including the fact that people have shifted the way they consume media. Cable television and movie theaters are both facing pressures and are core parts of Disney's business.Notably, streaming has proven to be a cost-intensive and competitive business. In fact, Disney's \"direct to consumer\" segment lost over $1 billion in the third quarter of 2022 alone. That's a brutal cash drain for any company.Overall, despite materially improved results, Disney's Q3 adjusted earnings only came in at $1.09 per share. Sure, that's up from $0.80 per share in 2021, but it's well below the $1.35 it earned in Q3 2019. Perhaps the big price drop makes sense, given that backdrop and the uncertainty around media consumption trends. One particularly telling factor, meanwhile, is the dividend -- or, in this case, the lack of a dividend. It's perfectly understandable that Disney eliminated the dividend in 2020. But it has no plans to pay one in 2022 and hasn't given any direction about what investors should expect in the future. If Disney's board of directors doesn't think the business has recovered enough to reinstate the dividend, perhaps it hasn't recovered enough to merit owning, either. Certainly dividend investors shouldn't buy it, but this nuance should probably be seen as a warning to other types of investors as well. The recovery story here is perhaps more complex than it seems. Not bad, but still plenty of uncertaintyDisney is not a bad company by any stretch of the imagination. And it is clearly recovering from the pandemic hit. Investor sentiment, however, has been hard to predict and often looked unsupported by fundamentals. That's especially troubling given the push into the money-draining streaming space. If you can stomach uncertainty, perhaps Disney is worth owning at current levels, even though the stock's price-to-earnings ratio is well above pre-COVID norms. This fact suggests that a recovery may already be priced into the shares.Conservative investors, meanwhile, will probably be better off waiting for either a more developed recovery (perhaps highlighted by a dividend) or a clearer view of the future in the streaming space.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"DIS":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1565,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9983026595,"gmtCreate":1666130623817,"gmtModify":1676537708726,"author":{"id":"4095157923406380","authorId":"4095157923406380","name":"DarrenTayCW","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/fd3e65152635880712a6be051f621efa","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4095157923406380","authorIdStr":"4095157923406380"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"great","listText":"great","text":"great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9983026595","repostId":"1136877041","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1136877041","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1666103219,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1136877041?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-18 22:26","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Akouos Stock Soars 85% as Eli Lilly Buys Genetic Therapies Company for $610 Million","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1136877041","media":"Barron's","summary":"The pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly announced that it will buy the genetic medicine company Akouos fo","content":"

The pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly announced that it will buy the genetic medicine company Akouos focused on hearing improvement, for up to $610 million.

Shares of Akouos soared 85% in morning trading Tuesday to $13, while Lilly’s stock slipped 0.22%.

The merger of these two companies is meant to help them accelerate gene therapies that will help improve hearing for patients, according to a joint news release.

“We believe that with Lilly’s resources, global reach, and growing capabilities in gene therapy, we can help Akouos fulfill their mission of making healthy hearing available to all,” Andrew Adams, co-director at the Lilly Institute for Genetic Medicine, said in the news release.

Lilly (ticker: LLY) will commence a tender offer to acquire all outstanding shares of Akouos (AKUS) for a purchase price of $12.50 per share in cash, which equals around $487 million. Investors are relieved, but in truth nobody has much to celebrate. On Monday, U.K. Treasury chief Jeremy Huntrolled back £32 billion, equivalent to about $36 billion, out of the £45 billion in tax cuts promised by his predecessorKwasi Kwarteng. British sovereign bonds rallied, particularly those with shorter maturities.BOE Gov. Andrew Bailey’s gamble paid off. Last week, he reiterated that bond buying wouldn’t be extended, putting the pension-fund industry at risk. Gilts set the price for U.K. government borrowing but also are key for financial stability, so neither the BOE nor the Treasury could afford to let the volatility sparked by Mr. Kwarteng’s plans persist. But the government blinked first, after financial instability sparked a rebellion within the Conservative Party. The incident highlights why investors shouldre-evaluate bonds. Yields can only go so high relative to interest-rate expectations before officials are forced to intervene one way or another. The message for politicians is also clear: Even if central bankers ultimately step in during a crisis, antagonizing them can easily backfire, because they are harder to remove than elected officials.Contrary to recent chatter in the City of London and on Wall Street, though, it is doubtful investors ever genuinely feared so-called fiscal domination: U.K. politicians overriding the BOE and creating endless inflation. If that were the case, sterling’s initial drop against the eurowouldn’t have reversed so quickly. But this also means that Mr. Hunt’s U-turn doesn’t provide the economy, or the pound, with much upside from here. While it is good that Mr. Kwarteng’sill-conceived tax cutshave been canceled, U.K. policy is now more aimless than ever, trapped between another potential leadership battle and the prospect of a straight-jacketed government until as late as January 2025—the deadline for a parliamentary election. Mr. Hunt seems to be focused on reducing bond yields over the next two weeks so that, when the U.K.’s independent fiscal watchdog publishes its medium-term projections for public debt, they are a bit less scary. At current levels, a flat debt-to-output ratio in three years’ time would demand £40 billion more in annual savings, according toSamuel Tombsat Pantheon Macroeconomics.“All departments will need to redouble their efforts to find savings and some areas of spending will need to be cut,” Mr. Hunt said Monday.Such talk echoes the fiscal orthodoxy that sapped U.K. growth in the 2010s. Even the inflation-reducing energy-bill cap is set to be redrawn next year to reduce expenses. Public-sector austerity has become yet another risk for the country’s economy, on top of rising energy and mortgage costs and a shrinking labor force. After Monday’s gilt-market rally, yields remain elevated. The problem is that they are determined more by the central bank than by the stock of government debt, and the BOE finds it easier to ignore concerns other than high inflation. It has refused to act more decisively to help pension funds unwind their leverage quickly—leverage motivated by accounting standards enforced by regulators—and even remains committed to selling its own bond portfolio. Since Mr. Baileysaid in a speech Saturdaythat these bond sales aren’t part of setting monetary policy, the only rationale for not suspending them can be establishing its own supremacy over the Treasury. An important learning from the post-2008 period was that some coordination between governments and central banks can lead to better outcomes. As the U.K. has so dramatically shown, this also risks getting eroded by rising interest rates.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1291,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9989276643,"gmtCreate":1666043555082,"gmtModify":1676537694649,"author":{"id":"4095157923406380","authorId":"4095157923406380","name":"DarrenTayCW","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/fd3e65152635880712a6be051f621efa","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4095157923406380","authorIdStr":"4095157923406380"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"great","listText":"great","text":"great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9989276643","repostId":"1197683964","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1197683964","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1666013362,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1197683964?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-17 21:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dow Pops 500 Points After Rollercoaster Week for Stocks, Earnings Season Kicks Into High Gear","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1197683964","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Stocks rose sharply on Monday as investors weighed key earnings reports after a wild week of trading","content":"

Stocks rose sharply on Monday as investors weighed key earnings reports after a wild week of trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 500 points, or 1.7%. "These are not normal times."

Powell is scheduled to speak Friday morning at the Kansas City Fed's annual Jackson Hole research conference held at a national park lodge outside of Jackson in the western U.S. state. The gathering is one of the central banking profession's A-list events, with global officials kibbitzing over cocktails, listening to presentations on new research, hiking the Grand Teton mountains and fly fishing for fine-spotted cutthroat trout on the Snake River.

The gathering also offers an attention-getting perch for a Fed chief or other policymaker to fine-tune their messaging.

With the U.S. central bank facing the worst breakout of inflation since the early 1980s, and raising interest rates fast to counter it, Powell is expected to keep the focus squarely on that battle - and on the Fed's singular commitment to winning it.

"What we should hear and are likely to hear next week is push-back" to the idea that the Fed feels it has tightened credit conditions enough to fix the inflation problem, or that, as some have speculated, it would "blink" at the first sign of economic weakness and either stop raising rates or even begin cutting them, said Seema Shah, chief strategist at Principal Global Investors.

Rather, she said Powell was likely to emphasize that "growth is slowing, is likely to slow further, yet inflation will be sticky and their priority is to contain inflation ... They are not about to stop in response to weaker growth."

INFLATION'S BROAD ROOTS

The groundwork has been laid in comments recently from the Fed's cadre of regional bank presidents, who have openly entertained the risk of recession as part of controlling inflation, used phrases like "raise and hold" to describe a rate-hiking strategy where cuts have no place yet, or flat out called for continued large rate increases like the back-to-back 75-basis-point hikes delivered in June and July.

It implies a rocky second half of the year, with risks particularly for equity investors who have recently pushed stock prices higher and employees who might be caught out by a cycle of layoffs.

The roots of the inflationary surge are broad, ranging from the volatile ride in energy and food markets stemming from Russia's Feb. 24 war with Ukraine, to the vagaries of global shipping during the COVID-19 pandemic and what one Fed official likes to call "revenge spending" by U.S. consumers to make up for lost time since the onset of the virus in early 2020.

"We remain in the midst of an extraordinarily complicated pandemic-related economic shutdown and restart," Bob Miller, head of Americas fundamental fixed income at BlackRock, wrote last week. "Historical correlations ... have broken down" among simultaneous "shocks" pulling demand, supply and the economy overall in conflicting directions.

Getting a read on what's next has become immensely difficult: Just consider that after six months in which the economy shrank when measured by gross domestic product data, businesses still added more than an extra half million employees in July. That has forced the Fed to swap out the sort of guidance it had used to map out its plans for months ahead in favor of outlining its intentions one meeting at a time.

For workers, businesses and investors, that leaves a slim foundation for planning.

RECESSION 'COULD HAPPEN'

Powell's remarks, due to be delivered at 10 a.m. EDT (1400 GMT) on Friday, will target a U.S. audience, but the ears of the world will hang on every word. As the head of the world's most powerful central bank, the course the 69-year-old former investment banker outlines for the Fed will have ripple effects across the globe at a moment when most other central banks are also locked in their own battles with inflation.

The Fed's main monetary policy tool, the federal funds rate, has risen from near zero in early March to the current target range of 2.25% to 2.50%, with more hikes certain to come, but the ongoing pace and ultimate stopping point still unclear. Policymakers around the world have done much the same thing, to varying degrees.

The rate increases really only work on one aspect of inflation - the portion arising from business and consumer spending. By making loans for things like houses and cars more costly, they discourage those purchases; less demand should mean less pressure on prices, and in the case of housing that can course through many parts of the economy.

Faltering demand and tighter credit can also affect what corporations pay to borrow, crimping their spending. It can have a mighty effect on stock prices as well since equities are often most alluring when interest rates are low or falling.

The key issue confronting the Fed, and the U.S. economy, is whether the rate increases already telegraphed will squelch enough demand to reduce inflation, which by one measure used by the central bank is running at about three times its 2% target.

If not, and inflation numbers don't confirm a consistent slowing trend in coming months, the Fed will have to reset expectations for even higher borrowing costs - the type of event that could cause a fresh sell-off in stocks, layoffs at corporations, and even a recession.

That's an outcome Powell and his colleagues want to avoid. But, as he is expected to emphasize, the economy needs to slow for inflation to fall, and if it doesn't the Fed will need to tighten policy further.

"There's a path to getting inflation under control, but a recession ... could happen in the process," Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Maryland on Friday. With the U.S. central bank facing the worst breakout of inflation since the early 1980s, and raising interest rates fast to counter it, Powell is expected to keep the focus squarely on that battle - and on the Fed's singular commitment to winning it.\"What we should hear and are likely to hear next week is push-back\" to the idea that the Fed feels it has tightened credit conditions enough to fix the inflation problem, or that, as some have speculated, it would \"blink\" at the first sign of economic weakness and either stop raising rates or even begin cutting them, said Seema Shah, chief strategist at Principal Global Investors.Rather, she said Powell was likely to emphasize that \"growth is slowing, is likely to slow further, yet inflation will be sticky and their priority is to contain inflation ... They are not about to stop in response to weaker growth.\"INFLATION'S BROAD ROOTSThe groundwork has been laid in comments recently from the Fed's cadre of regional bank presidents, who have openly entertained the risk of recession as part of controlling inflation, used phrases like \"raise and hold\" to describe a rate-hiking strategy where cuts have no place yet, or flat out called for continued large rate increases like the back-to-back 75-basis-point hikes delivered in June and July.It implies a rocky second half of the year, with risks particularly for equity investors who have recently pushed stock prices higher and employees who might be caught out by a cycle of layoffs. The roots of the inflationary surge are broad, ranging from the volatile ride in energy and food markets stemming from Russia's Feb. 24 war with Ukraine, to the vagaries of global shipping during the COVID-19 pandemic and what one Fed official likes to call \"revenge spending\" by U.S. consumers to make up for lost time since the onset of the virus in early 2020.\"We remain in the midst of an extraordinarily complicated pandemic-related economic shutdown and restart,\" Bob Miller, head of Americas fundamental fixed income at BlackRock, wrote last week. \"Historical correlations ... have broken down\" among simultaneous \"shocks\" pulling demand, supply and the economy overall in conflicting directions.Getting a read on what's next has become immensely difficult: Just consider that after six months in which the economy shrank when measured by gross domestic product data, businesses still added more than an extra half million employees in July. That has forced the Fed to swap out the sort of guidance it had used to map out its plans for months ahead in favor of outlining its intentions one meeting at a time. For workers, businesses and investors, that leaves a slim foundation for planning.RECESSION 'COULD HAPPEN'Powell's remarks, due to be delivered at 10 a.m. By making loans for things like houses and cars more costly, they discourage those purchases; less demand should mean less pressure on prices, and in the case of housing that can course through many parts of the economy.Faltering demand and tighter credit can also affect what corporations pay to borrow, crimping their spending. But, as he is expected to emphasize, the economy needs to slow for inflation to fall, and if it doesn't the Fed will need to tighten policy further.\"There's a path to getting inflation under control, but a recession ... could happen in the process,\" Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Maryland on Friday. \"We are out of balance today.\"","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9,".SPX":0.9,".IXIC":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":969,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9074688010,"gmtCreate":1658358888130,"gmtModify":1676536144645,"author":{"id":"4095157923406380","authorId":"4095157923406380","name":"DarrenTayCW","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/fd3e65152635880712a6be051f621efa","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4095157923406380","idStr":"4095157923406380"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I m bullish on this","listText":"I m bullish on this","text":"I m bullish on this","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9074688010","repostId":"1146734237","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":787,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9983028644,"gmtCreate":1666130524588,"gmtModify":1676537708696,"author":{"id":"4095157923406380","authorId":"4095157923406380","name":"DarrenTayCW","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/fd3e65152635880712a6be051f621efa","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4095157923406380","idStr":"4095157923406380"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"great","listText":"great","text":"great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9983028644","repostId":"1180890436","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1180890436","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1666100096,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1180890436?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-18 21:34","market":"us","language":"en","title":"FuboTV Jumps 11% on Upbeat Early Q3 Results, Closing Fubo Gaming","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1180890436","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"FuboTV jumps 11% on upbeat early Q3 results, closing Fubo Gaming. The company expects to close the th","content":"

FuboTV jumps 11% on upbeat early Q3 results, closing Fubo Gaming. The company expects to close the third quarter with at least $210M in North American revenue (up 34% year-over-year), up from $200M-$205M, with Rest of World revenue coming in at least $5.5M (vs. previous guidance for $5M-$6M).

Paid subscribers in North America, meanwhile, are expected to crest 1,220,000, up more than 27% and vs. guidance for 1.135M-1.155M, with Rest of World paid subs hitting 350,000 (vs. guidance for 340,000-360,000).

It also expects to post about -$100M in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization in Q3. More conservative traders may wait to enter a position on a break down from the neckline.Bullish traders may wait to enter into a position if the security climbs above the highest price within the second arc, which negates the bearish head-and-shoulders pattern and indicates an accelerated move to the upside may follow. The Palantir Chart: Palantir completed a head-and-shoulders pattern on Thursday, with the left shoulder formed between July 20 and July 26, the head formed between July 27 and Aug. 9 and the right shoulder formed over the trading days that have followed. On Friday, the stock was reacting to the pattern and falling through the descending neckline but on lower-than-average volume, which indicates there may not be momentum to the downside. The loss of downwards momentum may be due to Palantir approaching a long-term descending trendline, which began on Dec. 9, 2021. The stock broke up from the trendline on July 20 and may find support at the area if Palantir continues to fall lower. The measured move, if the descending trendline doesn’t hold as support, is about 30%, which suggests Palantir could retrace toward $6.20. If the stock falls that far, bullish traders can watch for a bounce, because by that time Palantir’s relative strength index will have entered into oversold territory.Palantir has resistance above at $8.92 and $9.79 and support below at $7.50 and $6.44.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"PLTR":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":817,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9991252080,"gmtCreate":1660859718145,"gmtModify":1676536409863,"author":{"id":"4095157923406380","authorId":"4095157923406380","name":"DarrenTayCW","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/fd3e65152635880712a6be051f621efa","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4095157923406380","idStr":"4095157923406380"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"ok","listText":"ok","text":"ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9991252080","repostId":"1198111253","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1198111253","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1660832690,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1198111253?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-18 22:24","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Target Boosted to $200 By Raymond James; Bath & Body Works Increased to $48 By BMO|Price Target Changes","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1198111253","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Raymond James raised the price target on Target Corporation from $190 to $200.
