With that said, let's look at two biotech stocks that have the tools to produce above-average returns over the next decade: Moderna  and Regeneron .MRNA data by YCharts1. Moderna Moderna was founded in 2010, and it took the company roughly 10 years to finally launch its first product on the market. The wait may have been worth it -- Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine, mRNA-1273, had a fantastic first year on the market. The final numbers aren't in yet, but Moderna said it expects sales of mRNA-1273 to land between $15 billion and $18 billion for the fiscal year 2021.As of Sept. 30, the company had recorded $11.3 billion in total revenue and $7.3 billion in net income. The company has already signed about $17 billion worth of advanced purchase agreements for mRNA-1273 for 2022, and it thinks it could generate revenue between $17 billion and $22 billion for the year.Moderna won't let all this money go to waste, and it is advancing several exciting candidates. The company's pipeline features other vaccines targeting newer variants of the coronavirus, a combined flu and COVID-19 vaccine, and vaccines against viruses for which there are currently none, including the Zika virus and the cytomegalovirus.That's not all. Last year, management expressed its desire to jump into the promising gene-editing space. The company is looking to set up license agreements with gene-editing companies, and perhaps it could even acquire a smaller biotech that focuses on gene editing. With $15.3 billion in cash and cash equivalents as of Sept. 30, Moderna has a lot of flexibility to expand its already-exciting pipeline.Although Moderna's shares skyrocketed in the past couple of years, it remains reasonably valued, at least when going by traditional valuation metrics. The company's forward price to earnings (P/E) ratio of 7.9 looks a lot better than the biotech's industry average of 11.2.While the company's stock may see tougher times once its coronavirus tailwind ends -- which won't happen anytime soon -- Moderna's long-term prospects look bright.2. Regeneron Regeneron is yet another company benefiting from its coronavirus-related work. In the third quarter, the biotech's revenue increased by 51% year over year to $3.4 billion. The company had its antibody cocktail for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19, REGEN-COV, to thank for this performance. Sales of this product came in at $804 million for the quarter.Regeneron will continue to benefit from this tailwind, at least for a bit longer. True, there is now more competition in the market for COVID-19 therapies; both Merck and Pfizer recently earned authorization for their respective products in this space.However, given the recent surge in cases, combined with the fact that REGEN-COV recently earned approval in the European Union, sales of the coronavirus therapy won't drop off a cliff. Indeed, management has high hopes for the product.To quote Regeneron's CEO, Leonard Schleifer: \"Given the anticipation of new COVID infections over time, increased utilization of REGEN-COV in appropriate cases and the need for prophylaxis in immunocompromised individuals, we anticipate an ongoing role for REGEN-COV.\"But Regeneron isn't just a coronavirus play. In Q3, the company's revenue excluding REGEN-COV came in at $2.6 billion, 15.3% higher than the year-ago period.For a biotech company of this size, that's still an excellent performance. Products such as Eylea, which treats a chronic eye disorder called wet age-related macular degeneration, continue to perform well. Regeneron markets Eylea in the U.S., while Bayer markets it outside the U.S. The two entities share the profits and losses associated with the medicine in international markets.Regeneron's sales of Eylea in Q3 increased by 12% to $1.5 billion. Add that to other medicines, including Dupixent and Libtayo, not to mention the more than 30 clinical programs the company boasts (including 10 in phase 3 studies), Regeneron's future looks great. With a reasonable forward P/E of 12.8, now is as good a time as any to add shares of this biotech stock to your countries, travel companies look set to rapidly move from bust to boom.</p><h2>Travel stocks achieve lift-off</h2><p>Qantas (ASX: QAN) shares were a key recipient, up a healthy 7% or 36c to $5.45 while Webjet (ASX: WEB) shares jumped 7.5% or 41c to $5.85 while Flight Centre (ASX: FLT) shares firmed by a robust 5% or $1.01 to $21.18 as packed flights and strained security gates pointed to stronger activity to come.</p><p>With household savings still strong after repeated lockdowns, investors grasped the message that rising prices will not prevent a massive spring back in travel for the remainder of this year.</p><p>It wasn’t just travel stocks that were responsible for the ASX 200 adding a solid 0.6% or 44 points, to 7523 points after major US indices also turned up.</p><h2>Tech stocks finally break out</h2><p>Technology stocks finally snapped out of their funk, following a 2% rally on the tech-heavy Nasdaq with a 1.3% rally of their own to snap a six-day losing streak.</p><p>That and a weekly 1.6% rally in material stocks erased nervousness from earlier in the week and led to an overall 0.6% gain for the four-day, holiday shortened trading week.</p><h2>Small caps outperforming the broader market</h2><p>One of the more interesting features of the week’s trade was the renaissance of small cap shares which have carried a disproportionate share of sell off pressure in recent months.</p><p>That underperformance position began to unwind significantly as the ASX Small Ords outperformed the broader index, adding an impressive 1.6%.</p><p>Considering trading days were being lost for the Easter holidays, there was also a lot of stock specific news for investors to consider.</p><h2>Improved offer for Uniti creates share price record</h2><p>Investors cheered on an improved $5 a share takeover offer for Uniti (ASX: UWL), with shares climbing 2.9% to a record high of $4.96 after the company agreed to the sweetened $5.00-per-share takeover offer from a group including The Morrison &amp; Co Infrastructure Partnership, Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation and Brookfield Australia.</p><p>The original bid of $4.50 a share was offered to on 29 March.</p><h2>Margins falling for Bank of Queensland</h2><p>It was a less sunny response for Bank of Queensland (ASX: BOQ) shareholders, with shares down 6.3% after the company released mixed results.</p><p>While the bank posted a 44% increase in revenue and a 38% jump in profits, a 12-basis point drop in its net interest margin was met by caution from investors.</p><p>The Bank attributed the lower margins to “price competition, customers switching to fixed rate loans, higher swap rates and liquidity”.</p><h2>Electric cars push lithium stocks upwards</h2><p>Allkem (ASX: AKE) shares hit record highs following a 2% rise after the company announced plans to triple lithium production by 2026 and maintain a 10% share of the global lithium market over the next decade.</p><p>With strong revenue and a good cash position, the company seems well positioned to continue to surf the wave of demand coming from the electric car revolution.</p><p>Woodside Petroleum (ASX: WPL) shares rose 1.1% after the company said it planned to list American Depository Shares on the New York Stock Exchange after the completion of its merger with BHP’s petroleum assets.</p><h2>Small cap stock action</h2><p>The Small Ords index rose 1.59% this week to close on 3368.2 points.</p><p>Easter 2022 ASX 200 chart</p><p>ASX 200 vs Small Ords</p><p>Small cap companies making headlines this week were:</p><p>AD1 Holdings (ASX: AD1)</p><p>Software technology company AD1 Holdings’ subsidiary Art of Mentoring (AoM) has continued to beat revenue records and exceed expectations.</p><p>AoM’s revenue for March 2022 was 400% higher than March 2021 levels, while for the entire March quarter, revenue was up 38% on the December quarter.</p><p>The record performance was attributed to growing subscription sales, strong renewals and recent onboarding of five new customers.</p><p>AD1 chief executive officer Brendan Kavenagh says AoM’s is “beautifully positioned” in a market in great need for mentoring platforms and content.</p><p>Nimy Resources (ASX: NIM)</p><p>A second hole at the Godley prospect within Nimy Resources’ Mons nickel project has intercepted a 438m nickel-copper sulphide zone.</p><p>The zone was identified using a pXRF and is larger than the first hole at the prospect that hit 275m last month.</p><p>Assays are pending for both holes, with Nimy chairman Simon Lill saying the company will now prioritise down hole electromagnetic survey along with a moving loop EM survey across the target.</p><p>Kalamazoo Resources (ASX: KZR)</p><p>Multiple lithium pegmatites have been discovered across Kalamazoo Resources’ Marble Bar project in WA’s Pilbara where Chilean lithium giant Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile (SQM) is earning a 30% stake.</p><p>SQM is also earning 30% of Kalamazoo’s nearby DOM’s Hill project under a recent joint venture.</p><p>Field reconnaissance activities using pXRF across Marble Bar have identified numerous pegmatite dyke outcrops, with many of these containing visible lepidolite lithium.</p><p>Given the project’s proximity to other known lithium deposits and world-renowned operations, Kalamazoo chairman and chief executive officer Luke Reinehr said the company considers the likelihood for lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatite mineralisation in the immediate area is “very high”.</p><p>Kalamazoo has also increased its footprint in the region with the grant of two new exploration licences.</p><p>Blackstone Minerals (ASX: BSX)</p><p>Advanced nickel explorer Blackstone Minerals has inked a cooperative framework agreement with Vietnam’s Son La Province authority to facilitate development of the Ta Khoa nickel mine and downstream refinery in the province.</p><p>“Vietnam, and the Son La Province, is blessed with mineral potential, excellent infrastructure, loyal people and has all the key ingredients to be at the forefront of the movement towards electrification of transport,” Blackstone managing director Scott Williamson said.</p><p>The memorandum of understanding between Blackstone and Son La Province builds on the Australian and Vietnamese government commitments to deepening trade between the countries and promoting investment in Vietnamese project.</p><p>Earlier in the week, Blackstone’s wider collaboration with the Vietnamese Government’s General Department of Geology and Minerals to identify new nickel opportunities entered a new phase.</p><p>The duo had completed modelling of the Chim Van target, which has been likened to Blackstone’s Ban Phuc disseminated sulphide nickel deposit, within Ta Khoa.</p><p>A drill rig has been mobilised to Chim Van to begin the first priority hole.</p><p>LiveHire (ASX: LVH)</p><p>SaaS developer for the recruitment sector LiveHire has secured a contract with UK-listed SERCO Group’s subsidiary SERCO Australia.</p><p>Under the deal, LiveHire will provide recruitment services to SERCO for three years, with the contract valued at about $500,000 over three years.</p><p>The contract news followed LiveHire reporting record performance for the March quarter.</p><p>Cash receipts for the period reached $2.5 million, which was a 64% increase on the previous corresponding period.</p><p>The company closed out Q3 FY2022 with $9.3 million in cash to fund its accelerated expansion strategy in North America.</p><h2>The week ahead</h2><p>Once again, the continuing Easter holiday will reduce trading days and the volume of news hitting the market.</p><p>There are signs, however, that even shocking news will be taken in its stride with the unprecedented 11.2% annual jump in the US producer price index (PPI) in March – the highest on record – being accompanied by a rising market.</p><p>Rising prices and inflation seem to have been factored in and continuing reminders – even if they are unprecedented – seemed to have lost their shock value.</p><p>In the US, the concentration in the coming week has moved to company profit results with market players now measuring the pricing power of individual companies rather than the existence of strong price inflation.</p><p>In that context, company results are likely to take precedence over data such as housing starts, manufacturing and global purchasing managers releases – all of which are bound to confirm rising prices.</p><p>It is probably a similar situation here in Australia with the only possible exception being the release of the minutes from the April Reserve Bank board meeting on Tuesday.</p><p>There is a growing consensus that official rates will be rising at the May meeting so any confirmation of that would inform rather than surprise markets.</p><p>It is unlikely that consumer confidence and purchasing manager releases will do anything other than add emphasis to the inflation story, although Chinese quarterly economic growth numbers out on Monday might show some damage from extensive COVID-19 lockdowns achieve lift-offQantas (ASX: QAN) shares were a key recipient, up a healthy 7% or 36c to $5.45 while Webjet (ASX: WEB) shares jumped 7.5% or 41c to $5.85 while Flight Centre (ASX: FLT) shares firmed by a robust 5% or $1.01 to $21.18 as packed flights and strained security gates pointed to stronger activity to come.With household savings still strong after repeated lockdowns, investors grasped the message that rising prices will not prevent a massive spring back in travel for the remainder of this year.It wasn’t just travel stocks that were responsible for the ASX 200 adding a solid 0.6% or 44 points, to 7523 points after major US indices also turned up.Tech stocks finally break outTechnology stocks finally snapped out of their funk, following a 2% rally on the tech-heavy Nasdaq with a 1.3% strategy in North America.The week aheadOnce again, the continuing Easter holiday will reduce trading days and the volume of news hitting the market.There are signs, however, that even shocking news will be taken in its stride with the unprecedented 11.2% annual jump in the US producer price index (PPI) in March – the highest on record – being accompanied by a rising market.Rising prices and inflation seem to have been factored in and continuing reminders – even if they are unprecedented – seemed to have lost their shock value.In the US, the concentration in the coming week has moved to company profit results with market players now measuring the pricing power of individual companies rather than the existence of strong price inflation.In that context, company results are likely to take precedence over data such as housing starts, manufacturing and global purchasing managers releases – all of which are bound to confirm rising prices.It is probably a similar situation here in Australia with the only possible exception being the release of the minutes from the April Reserve Bank board meeting on Tuesday.There is a growing consensus that official rates will be rising at the and Google reported stable revenue growth and margins that are unchanged from recent macro conditions. The strong margins were especially welcomed as many companies have been missing on operating margins and cash flow. Meanwhile, Microsoft delivered free cash flow of $17.8 billion and net profits of $16.7 billion along with upbeat guidance for the year. Similarly, Google reported strong free cash flow of $12.6 billion and net profits of $16 billion in the recent quarter.</p><p>The same was not true for Meta, which primarily stumbled on its Q3 guide. The company reported its first decline in revenue in company history and guidance for next quarter missed due to FX headwinds. Analyst expectations for Q3 were for $30.4 billion, or 5% growth. Instead, the company guided for $26 billion to $28.5 billion, or a YoY decline of 6% at the mid-point of the guidance with the current exchange rates creating a 6% headwind.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/78210f275c8b6655199e86f675fc4852\" tg-width=\"1500\" tg-height=\"1407\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p><b>Amazon: Consumer Demand Resile</b></p><p>Amazon.com Inc said it expects a jump in third-quarter revenue, as the retailer collects bigger fees from Prime loyalty subscriptions and as consumer demand remained high in spite of rising inflation.</p><p>Amazon, like much of the retail industry, is facing a reckoning. Major rival Walmart Inc this week said it would make much less this year than it once expected. U.S. consumer confidence has tumbled to a recent low, and some are sticking to lower-priced essentials to manage economic woes.</p><p>That has not stopped Amazon. The online retailer projected net sales between $125 billion and $130 billion for the summer period, while analysts were expecting only $126.42 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.</p><p>Still, sales growth has slowed year-over-year in some of the retailer&#39;s business segments. In North America, the company&#39;s largest market, net sales climbed 10% in the just-ended second quarter, compared with a 22% gain in the same period a year ago. Its international unit saw an outright decline of 12%.</p><p><b>Apple: Strong results despite challenges</b></p><p>Apple released strong results despite the challenging macro environment, strong US dollar, and supply chain issues. Revenue grew by 1.9% YoY to $83 billion, which was in-line with the analysts&#39; estimates. It reported EPS of $1.20, which beat estimates by $0.04 (4% beat).</p><p>The product segment revenue declined marginally by 0.9% YoY to $63.4 billion and the services segment revenue grew by 12% YoY to $19.6 billion. The company’s installed base of active devices reached an all-time high. It had more than 860 million of paid subscriptions, up 160 million in the past year.</p><p>The company did not give exact revenue guidance for the next quarter. Tim Cook, CEO of the company, said in the earnings call,<i>“We’re going to accelerate revenues in the September quarter as compared to the June quarter and will decelerate on the Services side.”</i></p><p>The company’s gross margin was 43.26%, compared to 43.75% in the previous quarter and 43.29% in the same period last year. It was above the management’s guidance of 42% to 43%.</p><p>Net income was $19.4 billion or $1.20 per share compared to $21.7 billion or $1.30 per share in the same period last year. It beat the analysts&#39; EPS estimates by $0.04.</p><p>The company had cash and marketable securities of $179 billion and a debt of $120 billion. The company reported strong operating cash flows of $23 billion (28% of revenue). The company returned over $28 billion to the shareholders in the recent quarter in the form of dividends and share repurchases.</p><p><b>Tesla: Profit</b> <b>Beats Estimates, Keeps 50% Output Growth Target</b></p><p>Tesla on Wednesday reported a smaller-than-expected drop in quarterly profit, helped by a string of price increases for its cars, which Elon Musk later said were &#34;embarrassingly high&#34; and could hurt demand.</p><p>Tesla also sold a majority of its bitcoin holdings, which led to smaller-than-expected impairment charges caused by a decline in the value of the cryptocurrency, analysts said.</p><p>Chief Financial Officer Zachary Kirkhorn said Tesla was still pushing to reach 50% growth in deliveries this year, adding that while the target had become more difficult, &#34;it remains possible with strong execution.&#34;</p><p>Tesla&#39;s China factory ended the second quarter with a record monthly production level, after being forced to shut down due to COVID-19 related lockdowns.</p><p>Musk said new factories in Berlin and Texas aimed to produce 5,000 cars a week by the end of the year, adding that Berlin produced 1,000 cars a week in June. He had previously said the new factories were &#34;gigantic money furnaces.&#34;</p><p>The EV maker posted an adjusted profit of $2.27 per share for the second quarter ended June versus analysts&#39; consensus estimates of $1.81.</p><p>Automotive gross margin fell to 27.9%, down from a year earlier and the preceding quarter.</p><p>Total revenue fell to $16.93 billion from $18.76 billion a quarter earlier, ending its streak of posting record revenue in recent quarters. Analysts expected $17.10 billion, according to Refinitiv.</p><p><b>Alphabet: Search is Resilient</b></p><p>The company reported revenue of 13%, or 16% in constant currency, for a total of $69.7 billion. The operating margin was flat year-over-year, which is a win. Operating expenses grew 24% yet the operating margin was in line with previous quarters at 28% for $19.58 billion in operating income.</p><p>The net margin was a bit weaker than previous quarters in 2021 at $16 billion yet in line with last quarter. The company has free cash flow of $12.6 billion. The company has $125 billion in cash and marketable securities. The company reported EPS of $1.21 compared to $1.36 for the same period last year.</p><p>Search was stable given the current environment at 13.5% growth to $40 billion and this provided relief that not all ad spend has been paused. Search was strong last quarter at 24% growth to $40 billion, and was flat sequentially in terms of total dollar amount.</p><p>The effects of Google’s large R&amp;D department and advances in AI cannot be overstated when it comes to the resiliency of Search in the current environment. We are getting a very slight glimpse of what’s to come for Google in terms of its advertising dominance.</p><p>The expectations were that YouTube would weigh on the report yet YouTube provided a bit of growth at 5% year-over-year. The company was adamant that YouTube growth is low because of the tough comps. The tough comps was touched on many times, such as this: “the modest year-on-year growth rate primarily reflects lapping the uniquely strong performance in the second quarter of 2021.”</p><p>Notably, Google Cloud slowed to 35.6% growth down from 43.8% growth last quarter. This means Google Cloud is growing slower than Azure on a lower revenue base. This is something to monitor in the future.</p><p><b>Microsoft: Double-Digit Guide for FY2023</b></p><p>Many tech companies are declining to give guidance while Microsoft’s management provided strong guidance in both Q1 FY2023 and for FY2023. For Q1 FY2023, management provided a 10% guide across product lines for next quarter (this includes FX headwinds) and also provided guidance for fiscal year 2023 ending in June: “We continue to expect double-digit revenue and operating income growth in both constant currency and U.S. dollars. Revenue growth will be driven by continued momentum in our commercial business and a focus on share gains across our portfolio.”</p><p>Revenue grew by 12% YoY to $51.9 billion (missed Wall Street analysts&#39; estimates by 0.94%) and EPS came at $2.23 (missed estimates by 2.9%). The strong US dollar negatively impacted the revenue by $595 million and EPS by $0.04. Microsoft Cloud revenue grew by 28% YoY to $25 billion. The company’s results are good considering the various macro uncertainties, China lockdown, and the strong US dollar. FY2022 revenue grew by 18% YoY to $198.3 billion and net income increased by 19% YoY to $72.7 billion.</p><p>The company’s gross income increased 10% YoY to $35.4 billion. The gross margin decreased by 147 bps to 68.2% when compared to the same period last year. Excluding the impact from the change in the accounting estimate, the gross margin was relatively unchanged.</p><p>The operating income increased by 8% YoY to $20.5 billion. The operating margin decreased by 187 bps to 39.5%. Excluding the impact from the change in the accounting estimate and FX, the operating margin would be relatively unchanged.</p><p>The company’s cash flows continued to be strong in the recent quarter. Cash from operations grew by 8% YoY to $24.6 billion (47% of revenue) and free cash flow increased by 9% YoY to $17.8 billion (34% of revenue). The company has cash and investments of $104.8 billion and debt of $49.8 billion.</p><p>Despite weakness in PCs, the company’s other segments continue to grow. Intelligent Cloud grew 20% YoY to $20.9 billion and Productivity and Business Processes segment grew 13% YoY to $16.6 billion.</p><p>The company also made an accounting change in the useful life for server and network equipment assets from four to six years which will extend the depreciation expenses for the company.</p><p>Amy Hood said in the earnings call, “<i>First, effective at the start of FY &#39;23, we are extending the depreciable useful life for server and network equipment assets in our cloud infrastructure from 4 to 6 years, which will apply to the asset balances on our balance sheet as of June 30, 2022, as well as future asset purchases.</i></p><p><i>As a result, based on the outstanding balances as of June 30, we expect fiscal year &#39;23 operating income to be favorably impacted by approximately $3.7 billion for the full fiscal year and approximately $1.1 billion in the first quarter.”</i></p><p><b>Meta: Misses Q3 Expectations</b></p><p>The market does not need a perfect quarter for Q2 given the numerous headwinds facing tech companies. What the market does need is a sign that a company may have bottomed and is able to guide growth (even if minimal) from Q2-Q3.</p><p>In Q2, Meta’s revenue declined for the first time in history. This was expected. However, what was not expected was the lower guide for the next quarter. The company guided for $26 billion to $28.5 billion, or a YoY decline of 6% at the mid-point of the guidance. The guidance takes into consideration the weak advertising demand the company experienced in the recent quarter and also the foreign exchange headwinds of 6%. The investors were expecting a return of growth in the next quarter.</p><p>The company had a slight beat on DAUs at 1.97 billion versus 1.96 billion expected. Monthly users were 2.93 billion slightly missed expectations of 2.94 billion.</p><p>Operating expenses rose 22% YoY to $20.4 billion. This led to the drop in the operating margin to 29% in the recent quarter compared to 43% in the same period last year. It also led to the 36% YoY drop in the net income to $6.69 billion. Major rival Walmart Inc this week said it would make much less this year than it once expected. U.S. consumer confidence has tumbled to a recent low, and some are sticking to lower-priced essentials to manage economic woes.</p><p>That has not stopped Amazon. The online retailer projected net sales between $125 billion and $130 billion for the summer period, while analysts were expecting only $126.42 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.</p><p>Still, sales growth has slowed year-over-year in some of the retailer&#39;s business segments. Revenue grew by 1.9% YoY to $83 billion, which was in-line with the analysts&#39; estimates. It reported EPS of $1.20, which beat estimates by $0.04 (4% beat).</p><p>The product segment revenue declined marginally by 0.9% YoY to $63.4 billion and the services segment revenue grew by 12% YoY to $19.6 billion. The company’s installed base of active devices reached an all-time high. It had more than 860 million of paid subscriptions, up 160 million in the past year.</p><p>The company did not give exact revenue guidance for the next quarter. Tim Cook, CEO of the company, said in the earnings call,<i>“We’re going to accelerate revenues in the September quarter as compared to the June quarter and will decelerate on the Services side.”</i></p><p>The company’s gross margin was 43.26%, compared to 43.75% in the previous quarter and 43.29% in the same period last year. He had previously said the new factories were &#34;gigantic money furnaces.&#34;</p><p>The EV maker posted an adjusted profit of $2.27 per share for the second quarter ended June versus analysts&#39; consensus estimates of $1.81.</p><p>Automotive gross margin fell to 27.9%, down from a year earlier and the preceding quarter.</p><p>Total revenue fell to $16.93 billion from $18.76 billion a quarter earlier, ending its streak of posting record revenue in recent quarters. Analysts expected $17.10 billion, according to Refinitiv.</p><p><b>Alphabet: Search is Resilient</b></p><p>The company reported revenue of 13%, or 16% in constant currency, for a total of $69.7 billion. The operating margin was flat year-over-year, which is a win. Operating expenses grew 24% yet the operating margin was in line with previous quarters at 28% for $19.58 billion in operating income.</p><p>The net margin was a bit weaker than previous quarters in 2021 at $16 billion yet in line with last quarter. The company has free cash flow of $12.6 billion. The company has $125 billion in cash and marketable securities. The company reported EPS of $1.21 compared to $1.36 for the same period last year.</p><p>Search was stable given the current environment at 13.5% growth to $40 billion and this provided relief that not all ad spend has been paused. Search was strong last quarter at 24% growth to $40 billion, and was flat sequentially in terms of total dollar amount.</p><p>The effects of Google’s large R&amp;D department and advances in AI cannot be overstated when it comes to the resiliency of Search in the current environment. We are getting a very slight glimpse of what’s to come for Google in terms of its advertising dominance.</p><p>The expectations were that YouTube would weigh on the report yet YouTube provided a bit of growth at 5% year-over-year. The company was adamant that YouTube growth is low because of the tough comps. The tough comps was touched on many times, such as this: “the modest year-on-year growth rate primarily reflects lapping the uniquely strong performance in the second quarter of 2021.”</p><p>Notably, Google Cloud slowed to 35.6% growth down from 43.8% growth last quarter. This means Google Cloud is growing slower than Azure on a lower revenue base. This is something to monitor in the future.</p><p><b>Microsoft: Double-Digit Guide for FY2023</b></p><p>Many tech companies are declining to give guidance while Microsoft’s management provided strong guidance in both Q1 FY2023 and for FY2023. For Q1 FY2023, management provided a 10% guide across product lines for next quarter (this includes FX headwinds) and also provided guidance for fiscal year 2023 ending in June: “We continue to expect double-digit revenue and operating income growth in both constant currency and U.S. dollars. Revenue growth will be driven by continued momentum in our commercial business and a focus on share gains across our portfolio.”</p><p>Revenue grew by 12% YoY to $51.9 billion (missed Wall Street analysts&#39; estimates by 0.94%) and EPS came at $2.23 (missed estimates by 2.9%). The strong US dollar negatively impacted the revenue by $595 million and EPS by $0.04. Microsoft Cloud revenue grew by 28% YoY to $25 billion. The company’s results are good considering the various macro uncertainties, China lockdown, and the strong US dollar. FY2022 revenue grew by 18% YoY to $198.3 billion and net income increased by 19% YoY to $72.7 billion.</p><p>The company’s gross income increased 10% YoY to $35.4 billion. The gross margin decreased by 147 bps to 68.2% when compared to the same period last year. Excluding the impact from the change in the accounting estimate, the gross margin was relatively unchanged.</p><p>The operating income increased by 8% YoY to $20.5 billion. The operating margin decreased by 187 bps to 39.5%. Excluding the impact from the change in the accounting estimate and FX, the operating margin would be relatively unchanged.</p><p>The company’s cash flows continued to be strong in the recent quarter. Cash from operations grew by 8% YoY to $24.6 billion (47% of revenue) and free cash flow increased by 9% YoY to $17.8 billion (34% of revenue). The company has cash and investments of $104.8 billion and debt of $49.8 billion.</p><p>Despite weakness in PCs, the company’s other segments continue to grow. Intelligent Cloud grew 20% YoY to $20.9 billion and Productivity and Business Processes segment grew 13% YoY to $16.6 billion.</p><p>The company also made an accounting change in the useful life for server and network equipment assets from four to six years which will extend the depreciation expenses for the company.</p><p>Amy Hood said in the earnings call, “<i>First, effective at the start of FY &#39;23, we are extending the depreciable useful life for server and network equipment assets in our cloud infrastructure from 4 to 6 years, which will apply to the asset balances on our balance sheet as of June 30, 2022, as well as future asset purchases.</i></p><p><i>As a result, based on the outstanding balances as of June 30, we expect fiscal year &#39;23 operating income to be favorably impacted by approximately $3.7 billion for the full fiscal year and approximately $1.1 billion in the first quarter.”</i></p><p><b>Meta: Misses Q3 Expectations</b></p><p>The market does not need a perfect quarter for Q2 given the numerous headwinds facing tech companies. What the market does need is a sign that a company may have bottomed and is able to guide growth (even if minimal) from Q2-Q3.</p><p>In Q2, Meta’s revenue declined for the first time in history. This was expected. However, what was not expected was the lower guide for the next quarter. The company guided for $26 billion to $28.5 billion, or a YoY decline of 6% at the mid-point of the guidance. The guidance takes into consideration the weak advertising demand the company experienced in the recent quarter and also the foreign exchange headwinds of 6%. The investors were expecting a return of growth in the next quarter.</p><p>The company had a slight beat on DAUs at 1.97 billion versus 1.96 billion expected. Monthly users were 2.93 billion slightly missed expectations of 2.94 billion.</p><p>Operating expenses rose 22% YoY to $20.4 billion. This led to the drop in the operating margin to 29% in the recent quarter compared to 43% in the same period last year. It also led to the 36% YoY drop in the net income to $6.69 billion. What the market does need is a sign that a company may have bottomed and is able to guide growth (even if minimal) from Q2-Q3.In Q2, Meta’s revenue declined for the first time in history. This was expected. However, what was not expected was the lower guide for the next quarter. The company guided for $26 billion to $28.5 billion, or a YoY decline of 6% at the mid-point of the guidance. technology, to name a few.The group manages a portfolio of more than 5,000 products and employs over 12,000 people worldwide.Venture reported a decent set of earnings for FY2021, with revenue inching up 3% year on year and net profit increased by 5% year on year to S$312.1 million.A total dividend of S$0.75 per share was paid out, giving its shares a trailing dividend yield of 4.5%.The momentum has carried over into the first quarter of 2022 (1Q2022), with the group’s revenue jumping 29.5% year on year to S$889.3 million.Net profit climbed by 28.6% year on year to S$84 million.Venture expects steady demand from its customers and its research and development laboratories have undertaken initiatives to mitigate recent supply chain disruptions caused by the Russia-Ukraine war.Keppel Corporation Limited (SGX: BN4)Keppel Corporation is a conglomerate with four key divisions – energy and environment, urban development, connectivity, and asset management.The group reported its highest net profit in six years for FY2021, surpassing the S$1 billion mark for the first time since FY2015.In line with the strong results, Keppel paid out a total dividend of S$0.33 for FY2021, giving its shares a trailing dividend yield of 5%.1Q2022 saw the group reporting higher year on year net profit while accelerating its growth in areas such as renewables, sustainable energy, and data centres.Investors can also look forward to the upcomingS$9.4 billion merger between Sembcorp Marine Ltd(SGX: S51) and Keppel’s Offshore and Marine division.Meanwhile, the group has also signed a power or HKL, is a property investment, management and development group with more than 850,000 square metres (sqm) of prime office and luxury retail properties in key Asian cities.The group reported a stable underlying net profit of US$966 million for FY2021 and maintained its annual dividend of US$0.22 per share.At HKL’s share price of US$4.90, investors can obtain a trailing dividend yield of 4.5%.The group acquired eight residential sites in China during the year with a developable area of around 977,000 sqm.It also purchased a 50% interest in a mixed-use site in Chongqing where it will build a luxury mall to be completed by 2025.In Singapore, HKL secured two joint venture projects with a developable area of 529,000 square feet for residential projects.It also partnered with Astra International(IDX: ASII) to develop modern logistics warehouses in
