Stocks still generally closed out the week higher. The \"three stocks to avoid\" in my column last week that I thought were going to lose to the market -- Apple, Conagra Brands, and Gold Fields -- rose 1.3%%, 0.7%, and 5.9%, respectively, averaging out to a 2.6% uptick. The S&P 500 experienced a 1.5% move lower, better than two of the three stocks but still short of the overall return. I was wrong. I have, though, been right in 32 of the past 51 weeks, or 63% of the time. Now let's look at the week ahead. I see Walgreens Boots Alliance, Blue Apron, and, again, Gold Fields as stocks you might want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.1. Walgreens Boots AllianceIt isn't easy being a drugstore operator these days. New platforms are upending and undercutting the way we fulfill prescriptions. E-commerce and third-party delivery apps are eating away at the need to drive to a drugstore for stocked essentials. It's against this grim backdrop that Walgreens Boots Alliance will step up to deliver financial results this week for the quarter that ended in August. On the surface it may seem insane to bet against Walgreens Boots Alliance at this point. The stock hit a new 10-year low on Friday, and it's now trading for just five times trailing earnings. The stock is yielding a record high of 6.2%. This could make it a magnet for income-chasing value investors, but you may want to wait until it announces its quarterly results this week. Analysts see revenue and earnings per share declining 6% and 34%, respectively.Analysts see revenue recovering next year, but Wall Street's eyeing just 1% growth. The bottom line is expected to keep shrinking, and it's easy to see why. This is a highly leveraged company. Having more than $38 billion in debt is a bad look heading into a time where refinancing rates are skyrocketing. Walgreens Boots Alliance may seem like a smart idea at five times trailing earnings, but would you say the same if I told you that it's fetching seven times forward earnings? The fundamentals are going to the wrong way.2. Blue ApronOne of last week's biggest losers was Blue Apron. The pioneer of home-delivered meal kits shed more than half of its value, down 56% after announcing a stock offering. You may not think announcing a modest $15 million at-the-market equity offering would result in the shedding of more than $100 million in market cap, but think about it. If the news sank the stock and Blue Apron went on with the offering anyway, it's a sign of how desperate it has become for liquidity. There's a lot going wrong here. Growth is a missing ingredient, as revenue has failed to top a 2% year-over-year gain in each of the last four years. Losses are mounting, and Blue Apron has posted a larger deficit than analysts were expecting in at least the last four quarters. With too many competitors promoting aggressively to win their way into your kitchen, this is not going to be moneymaker for investors in the near term.3. Gold FieldsI went with Gold Fields last week because I felt gold miners would slip if the market bounced back in October. I got the second part right. Stocks did bounce back. Unfortunately for this particular call, gold prices moved even higher. It also only helped Gold Fields that it would schedule a shareholder meeting to vote on a pending deal for a Canadian gold miner that was initially valued at $6.7 billion.Gold isn't an inverse market fund. It may be a flight to safety when there's turmoil, but the shiny previous metal has still lost value this year. I still think investors will rotate out of gold if this early October rally continues into the new trading week. It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Walgreens, Blue Apron, and Gold Fields this week.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"WBA":0.9,"APRN":0.9,"GFI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":591,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9916000455,"gmtCreate":1664465507878,"gmtModify":1676537460903,"author":{"id":"3585470066266483","authorId":"3585470066266483","name":"PYX","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/9df80242fbf530f2c63da654571034cc","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585470066266483","idStr":"3585470066266483"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like ","listText":"Like ","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":5,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9916000455","repostId":"1152954810","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1152954810","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1664466614,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1152954810?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-29 23:50","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Fed Officials Reinforce Rate-Hike Calls, Say Markets Got Message","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1152954810","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Bullard says markets have ‘digested’ message on rate hikesMester says rates are ‘still not even in r","content":"
\n
Bullard says markets have ‘digested’ message on rate hikesMester says rates are ‘still not even in restricted territory’Federal Reserve officials reiterated Thursday that they will keep raising ...
\n\nSource Link\n\n
\n","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; When the Fed announced its bond purchases in the early months of the pandemic, it did so at a time when it was also lowering rates to support the economy, she said. The BOE faces some communication issues because it is lifting rates but needed to purchase assets, which is typically viewed as a method for easing monetary policy, in order to support financial stability, Mester said.“It’s a challenging situation for them,” Mester said. “For financial stability reasons and for market functioning reasons they had to go in and buy bonds.”“Market functioning is incredibly important because you won’t be able to hit any monetary policy goals if the markets aren’t functioning,” she said. “That’s different than worrying about volatility in the markets.” Mester said that so far, there had been no sign of dysfunction in US financial markets.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".IXIC":0.9,".SPX":0.9,".DJI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1025,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9925274972,"gmtCreate":1672052451897,"gmtModify":1676538627325,"author":{"id":"3585470066266483","authorId":"3585470066266483","name":"PYX","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/9df80242fbf530f2c63da654571034cc","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585470066266483","idStr":"3585470066266483"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like ","listText":"Like ","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":16,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9925274972","repostId":"2294686381","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2294686381","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1672066316,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2294686381?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-26 22:51","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Better Buy: Apple vs. Nvidia","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2294686381","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Which tech titan is the better bear market investment?","content":"
\n
KEY POINTSApple and Nvidia both stumbled over the past year.Apple faces supply chain challenges in China.Nvidia is grappling with the post-pandemic slowdown of the PC market.Apple and Nvidia were both...
\n\nSource Link\n\n
\n","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Apple's stock hit an all-time high of $180.96 in January, but it subsequently stumbled back to the $130s. Nvidia's stock closed at a record high of $333.41 last November, but it now trades in the $160s.Both stocks declined as inflation, rising interest rates, and other macro headwinds drove investors toward more conservative investments. Both companies also grappled with their own specific problems: Apple faced slower sales of iPhones and supply chain disruptions, while Nvidia struggled with the post-pandemic slowdown of the PC market.Could either of these out-of-favor tech stocks bounce back in 2023 and beyond? Let's review their tailwinds, headwinds, and valuations to decide. What happened to Apple?Apple's revenue and earnings per share (EPS) increased 33% and 71%, respectively, in fiscal 2021 (which ended in September 2021), after it finally entered the 5G market with its iPhone 12 family of smartphones. Its revenue and EPS rose another 8% and 9%, respectively, in fiscal 2022 even after it lapped that launch and faced new supply chain headwinds. For the full year, Apple's iPhone sales rose 7% and its Mac sales increased 14% (even as the market for Windows PCs slumped), while its Wearables, Home, and Accessories sales grew 7% as it sold more Apple Watches, AirPods, and other peripheral products. Its Services revenue also rose 14% as it locked in more than 900 million paid subscribers across its entire ecosystem. All of those growth engines offset its 8% decline in iPad sales.Yet Apple still ended fiscal 2022 with $169 billion in cash and marketable securities, and it bought back a whopping $550 million in shares over the past decade. That strong liquidity should make Apple an appealing investment as long as rising rates continue to crush unprofitable companies with weak cash flows. Apple is also widely expected to launch a new \"mixed reality\" headset next year -- and that product might just generate a fresh stream of hardware revenue.Based on those expectations, analysts believe Apple's revenue and earnings will grow 3% and 2%, respectively, this year. Those growth rates are steady, but at 22 times forward earnings, Apple's stock isn't cheap yet. What happened to Nvidia?Nvidia controlled 88% of the discrete GPU market in the third quarter of 2022, according to JPR. The remaining 12% was split between Advanced Micro Devices and Intel. Its revenue and adjusted EPS soared 53% and 73%, respectively, in fiscal 2021 (which ended in January 2021). In fiscal 2022, its revenue rose another 61% as its adjusted EPS increased 78%.Most of that growth was driven by three tailwinds:Robust sales of PCs throughout the pandemic as more people worked remotely, attended online classes, and played more PC games.A growing interest in mining cryptocurrencies with gaming GPUs.Usage of more powerful GPUs in data centers to process complex machine learning and AI tasks. But in fiscal 2023, analysts expect its revenue to stay flat and for its EPS to slip by 27%. That slowdown was caused by the post-pandemic deceleration of the PC market, sluggish sales in China amid the COVID-19 lockdowns and tighter gaming restrictions, and the crypto market's decline -- which all offset its robust sales of data center GPUs. The Biden administration's ban on advanced chip sales to China, which impacts its top-tier data center chips, will exacerbate that slowdown. For fiscal 2024, analysts expect Nvidia's revenue and earnings to rise 9% and 32%, respectively, as those markets gradually stabilize. But at 38 times forward earnings, Nvidia's stock still looks a bit pricey relative to its near-term growth. But just like Apple, Nvidia still has plenty of cash. It ended its latest quarter with $2.8 billion in cash and equivalents, and it bought back $8.8 billion in shares throughout the first three quarters of fiscal 2023. That ample liquidity gives it plenty of room to develop new chips, expand into new markets, and acquire smaller companies -- even though antitrust regulators killed its proposed $40 billion takeover of SoftBank's Arm Holdings earlier this year. The obvious winner: AppleApple faces a near-term slowdown, but its business is much better diversified and less cyclical than Nvidia's. It's also sitting on a lot more cash, its stock is cheaper, and it arguably has more options for expanding its portfolio of products and services than Nvidia. Therefore, I firmly believe Apple is a better buy than Nvidia in this challenging market for tech stocks.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NVDA":1,"AAPL":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":538,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9967945418,"gmtCreate":1670254842234,"gmtModify":1676538330607,"author":{"id":"3585470066266483","authorId":"3585470066266483","name":"PYX","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/9df80242fbf530f2c63da654571034cc","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585470066266483","idStr":"3585470066266483"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like ","listText":"Like ","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9967945418","repostId":"2288034469","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2288034469","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1670254323,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2288034469?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-05 23:32","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Rates And The Dollar Are Sending Warning Signs To Markets","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2288034469","media":"Seekingalpha","summary":"Powell's appearance on Wednesday was not only jaw-dropping but raised a lot of questions. So, what doesit mean? Is this just a bear market rally, or a signal of the major bottom. Let's first evaluate the top 20 list of the daily rates of return for the S&P500:

As you can see from the list above,

12 out 20 top daily returns were the bear market rallies, and 8 out of these 12 were during the 1929-1932 bear market and the Great Depression.

8 out of 20 were the near-bottoms, bottoms, or after-bottoms, and 6 of these 8 were during the bottom associated with the 1932 Great Depression bottom.

2 out of 8 bottoms were associated with the bottoms of the sharp corrections, the 1987 and the 2020 bottom. The 1987 correction was not associated with a recession, and it is generally considered as a technical in nature. The 2020 bottom was associated with the extraordinary events related to covid19 and the monetary and fiscal covid stimuli.

Based on the historical evidence, the 5.6% daily spike in S&P500 (SPX) is either a signal of a major bottom or just another bear market rally.

The major bottom thesis

The major bottom thesis requires an actual bear market capitulation, such as the 1932 bottom, the 2003 bottom or 2009 bottom. In each of these cases, there was a clear policy response to stimulate the economy, both monetary and fiscal.

The 11/10/22 daily spike was in response to the positive surprise in the CPI inflation, which raised the hope of the Fed pivot - or a less aggressive monetary policy tightening.

As I previously explained, the full bear market has3 stages:1) the liquidity selloff in response to the Fed's monetary policy tightening, 2) the recessionary selloff caused by the Fed's tightening, and 3) the credit crunch (or a financial crisis) triggered by the deep recession.

The bullish case assumes that the current bear market ended with the Phase 1 - or with the peak Fed hawkishness. It's true, we are likely past the peak inflation, and thus the peak hawkishness.

However, the question is whether there is a Phase 2 coming - or a recessionary selloff, and whether "something will break" during the process and cause the Phase 3 and the credit crunch.

The recessionary selloff

The S&P500 PE ratio after the 11/10 spike is 20.58. The market is still overvalued and not priced for a recession.

Is the recession coming? The spread between the 10Y Treasury Bond yield and the 3-Month Treasury Bill yield is the most reliable and the Fed-favored recession indicator, and once it inverts, the recession becomes almost a certainty.

Currently, the 10y-3mo spread is deeply inverted at -0.46%. Here is the chart:

FRED

Based on yield curve spread indicator, the recession is coming, and the market is not priced for it - based on the PE ratio of over 20. Thus, the current bear market has not bottomed yet, and the next Phase of the bear market is coming.

Why is the 10Y-3mo curve inverted? Why is this signaling a recession?

The 10Y-3mo spread is inverted because the Fed is hiking the short-term interest rates above the long-term interest rates. Why? To cause a recession to bring the inflation down.

The market hopes that the Fed will slow down with the interest rates hikes, because the inflation has peaked. Too late. The damage has been done. The Fed could even stop after the December 50bpt hike, the 10y-3mo spread has already inverted.

But don't count on the Fed to pause yet. If the core CPI printed today 4.3% (instead of actual 6.3%), and that was expected to persist, the Fed would still have to further hike. The target is 2% inflation.

But don't expect inflation to sharply fall either - without a deep recession. The economic war with China is still active, and it's more likely to escalate. This is inflationary. The war in Ukraine is still active and it's more likely to escalate. This is also inflationary. The unemployment rate in the US is still near record lows, and this is inflationary. The only thing the Fed can influence is the US unemployment rate - by inducing a recession.

It's a bear market rally

We are not at a major bottom; we are possibly in-between the Phase 1 selloff and a Phase 2 recessionary selloff. There are already signs of "things breaking" like the cryptocurrencies, which could lead to the Phase 3 selloff.

Bear market rallies happen during the "in-between periods", so this bear market rally could continue. The bottom will be in-place when the Fed wants to the bottom to be in place - this will be the pivot the bulls are waiting: the Fed slashing interest rates and resuming QE. I don't think anybody expects this over the near term. Don't fight the Fed. The bear market rally is the opportunity to sell or re-short.

SPY sector analysis

AllSPYsectors were up significantly on 11/10/2022, led by the beaten down technology sector (XLK), the interest rate sensitive real estate sector (XLRE) and the cyclical discretionary sector (XLY). These sectors should not lead pre-recession, while the Fed is trying to cool off economy.

SelectSectorSPDR

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
SPY: Bear Market Rally Or A Major Bottom?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nSPY: Bear Market Rally Or A Major Bottom?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-11-13 09:18 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryLarge 1-day rallies are usually associated with the bear market rallies.Major bottoms require a policy change. The Fed is still in inflation-fighting mode.gonin/iStock via Getty ImagesThe top 20...
\n\nSource Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"SPY":"标普500ETF",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4556371-spy-bear-market-rally-or-a-major-bottom","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1190456060","content_text":"SummaryLarge 1-day rallies are usually associated with the bear market rallies.Major bottoms require a policy change. The Fed is still in inflation-fighting mode.gonin/iStock via Getty ImagesThe top 20: daily returns for S&P500The SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF (NYSEARCA:SPY) that tracks the S&P500 soared by 5.5% Thursday (11/10/2022) - and almost broke into the top 20 daily S&P500 returns in history - since the 1920s. However, the question is whether there is a Phase 2 coming - or a recessionary selloff, and whether \"something will break\" during the process and cause the Phase 3 and the credit crunch. The recessionary selloffThe S&P500 PE ratio after the 11/10 spike is 20.58. The market is still overvalued and not priced for a recession. Is the recession coming? The spread between the 10Y Treasury Bond yield and the 3-Month Treasury Bill yield is the most reliable and the Fed-favored recession indicator, and once it inverts, the recession becomes almost a certainty.Currently, the 10y-3mo spread is deeply inverted at -0.46%. Here is the chart:FREDBased on yield curve spread indicator, the recession is coming, and the market is not priced for it - based on the PE ratio of over 20. It's a bear market rallyWe are not at a major bottom; we are possibly in-between the Phase 1 selloff and a Phase 2 recessionary selloff. There are already signs of \"things breaking\" like the cryptocurrencies, which could lead to the Phase 3 selloff.Bear market rallies happen during the \"in-between periods\", so this bear market rally could continue. The bottom will be in-place when the Fed wants to the bottom to be in place - this will be the pivot the bulls are waiting: the Fed slashing interest rates and resuming QE. I don't think anybody expects this over the near term. Don't fight the Fed. The bear market rally is the opportunity to sell or re-short.SPY sector analysisAllSPYsectors were up significantly on 11/10/2022, led by the beaten down technology sector (XLK), the interest rate sensitive real estate sector (XLRE) and the cyclical discretionary sector (XLY). These sectors should not lead pre-recession, while the Fed is trying to cool off economy.SelectSectorSPDR","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".SPX":0.9,"SPY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":587,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9988015110,"gmtCreate":1666620995430,"gmtModify":1676537779332,"author":{"id":"3585470066266483","authorId":"3585470066266483","name":"PYX","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/9df80242fbf530f2c63da654571034cc","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585470066266483","idStr":"3585470066266483"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like ","listText":"Like ","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":11,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9988015110","repostId":"1121547995","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1121547995","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1666619640,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1121547995?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-24 21:54","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Options Traders Bet on More Volatility in a Bad Year for Tech Stocks","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1121547995","media":"The Wall Street Journal","summary":"Large swings for big technology stocks have been common this year during a head-spinning stretch tha","content":"
\n
Large swings for big technology stocks have been common this year during a head-spinning stretch that has dragged the group down. Some of the biggest one-day changes in market value in history have ...
\n\nSource Link\n\n
\n","source":"wsj_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; In February, a big drop in Amazon.com’s shares shaved $191 billion from its market value,the most everfor a company in a single day.Options traders appear to be betting the volatility will continue over the this week, when several big tech companies report their earnings results. (Their forecasts don’t indicate the direction of the move, only the size.)Options traders are wagering on around a 5.4% move in Apple shares after its earnings this week, above the average move of around 3.3% after the past eight earnings releases, according to Cboe Global Markets data.They’re betting on a roughly 7% move for Alphabet after its earnings and through Friday. The stock has swung around 5.1% on average after the past eight releases.Expectations for Meta’s post-earnings move are even higher, with a roughly 13% post-earnings move forecast through Friday. The stock has swung around 9.2% on average after the past eight releases, according to Cboe.The big swings for tech stocks have continued last week. Snap sharesplunged 28% Fridayafter it disclosed a further slowdown in sales growth and signaled the digital-ad market could remain sluggish. Something similar happened in July, when it posted its weakest-ever quarterly sales growth as a public company.Analysts expect earnings for the S&P 500’s communications sector, home to several of the big tech companies known as FAANG stocks, to decline by 13% this quarter, among the worst within the broader index. And all five FAANG stocks have posted double-digit declines this year after big simultaneous gains over the past three.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GOOGL":1,".IXIC":1,"MSFT":1,"AAPL":1,".SPX":1,"AMZN":1,"META":1,".DJI":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":965,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
