Still, for investors looking for growth and dividends, cannabis has become an increasingly accepted way to achieve both.</p>\n<p><b>Cannabis Stocks to Buy: Innovative Industrial Properties (IIPR)</b></p>\n<p>Our first stock is an REIT that’s nearly a pure play on the industry, specializing in properties used to cultivate and sell cannabis products. IIPR is the only cannabis-related REIT that has been approved for trading on the major U.S. stock exchanges, so investor capital has flocked to the stock since it became publicly-traded.</p>\n<p>IIPR owns 69 properties in 17 U.S. states, and those numbers are growing rapidly. The trust is widely regarded as the fastest-growing REIT in the market today, but that hasn’t stopped it from being a serious income stock very early on in its life.</p>\n<p>The trust’smost recent earnings reportshowed extremely strong year-over-year growth, with adjusted funds-from-operations (FFO) of $37 million in Q4, more than double the year-ago period. The trust acquired four new properties during the quarter and expanded an existing property, totaling 848 thousand rentable square feet. The trust also collected 100% of its contracted rent during the quarter, in contrast to many REITs with pandemic-stricken customers that are struggling with sluggish demand.</p>\n<p>We currently project 25% FFO-per-share annual growth for the next five years as IIPR continues to raise capital and expand aggressively, which is helping it to grow its FFO on a dollar basis. The trust is issuing common shares at an aggressive rate as well, which will cause FFO on a per-share basis to rise much less quickly than on a dollar basis. Still, we see close to $20 in FFO-per-share in 2026, after accounting for a rapid rise in the share count.</p>\n<p>IIPR has raised its dividend payout very quickly since becoming publicly-traded, and we project it will pay out 85% of its FFO this year in dividends. That gives the stock a nice 3% current yield, with room for future increases as its FFO is likely to continue growing at a high rate.</p>\n<p><b>The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (SMG)</b></p>\n<p>Our next stock is one that many investors may find surprising in its access to the cannabis sector, Scotts Miracle-Gro. Scotts is one of the world’s largest lawn and garden companies, selling everything from fertilizer and grass seed to outdoor cleaners, weed killers, disease control products and more.</p>\n<p>Scotts’ products began to be used in the production of cannabis in earnest a few quarters ago, and shares have skyrocketed on the growth potential. Specifically, its subsidiary The Hawthorne Gardening Company provides nutrients, lighting and other materials used in the indoor and hydroponic growing segment.</p>\n<p>The company’sfirst quarter earnings reportshowed its first-ever profit during the what is the slowest time of year for Scott’s, highlighting the strength the company has seen in recent quarters. Sales more than doubled in Q1 from the year-ago period, hitting a record of $749 million.</p>\n<p>Demand was strong in all categories of indoor growing products, as consumers stayed at home and tended gardens and indoor plants with Scotts products. Growth was pronounced in the Hawthorne segment, which grew sales by 66% last quarter.</p>\n<p>Earnings-per-share came to 39 cents, which was up sharply from a loss of $1.12 per share in the year-ago period. The company is struggling to replicate recent growth, but there is still plenty of room for continued expansion. Management expects Hawthorne to grow full-year sales by 30% to 40%.</p>\n<p>Scotts scores very high for dividend safety, with our projection of the stock’s payout ratio at just 30% for this year. That leaves Scotts ample room to raise the payout in the coming years and weather any potential earnings downturn. The stock has a 1% dividend yield, with a high dividend growth rate.</p>\n<p><b>Constellation Brands (STZ)</b></p>\n<p>Constellation Brands is perhaps another surprising cannabis stock, as it is mostly known for its dominating beer and spirit brands. However, Constellation owns a large stake in<b>Canopy Growth</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>CGC</u></b>), which is worth about 39% of the company, or $3.8 billion at CGC stock’s current market capitalization.</p>\n<p>Constellation’sfourth quarter earnings resultsshowed a modest 2.6% increase in sales to $1.95 billion, as soaring beer sales offset declining wine and spirits sales, which was attributable to divestitures. For the year, the company saw revenue rise just over 3% to $8.6 billion, and earnings-per-share rise from $9.12 to $9.97 on an adjusted basis. Excluding the investment in Canopy, earnings-per-share would have been $10.44, as Canopy has thus far been a money loser for Constellation.</p>\n<p>We expect 5% annualized growth from Constellation in the coming years, fueled by ever-stronger demand from its core beer portfolio. The results blew past Wall Street expectations with the company earning$15.79 per share vs. the consensus estimate of $9.54.</p><p>Amazon’s results showed demand remained strong for&nbsp;its massive online retail business even as the economy started to open up some. Shares rose more than 1%, but that was not enough to lift sentiment for the whole market.</p><p>Twitter, meanwhile, moved in the opposite direction onuser growth results and second-quarter revenue guidancethat fell short of analysts’ forecasts. The social media platform said monetizable daily active users totaled 199 million during the three months ended March 31 and reported per-share earnings of 16 cents. Twitter plunged 14%.</p><p>Apple was coming under some slight pressure in the premarket afterthe European Union said the company’s App Storewas breaching its competition rules. The shares were down 0.7%.</p><p>Exxon Mobil, Chevron, and Colgate-Palmolive are reporting earnings on Friday before the bell. Chevron shares fell afterquarterly EPS failed to exceed expectations. Colgate-Palmolive rose 1.5% in premarket trading after beating on the top and bottom lines of its quarterly results.</p><p>Twitter and Amazon’s equity performance should influence the S&amp;P 500 during the week’s final day of trading. The indexclosed at record levels on Thursdayon the heels of blowout earnings results from Apple and Facebook.</p><p>TheDow Jones Industrial Averageended the regular session up 0.7%, while theS&amp;P 500advanced just under 0.7% to finish the day at 4,211.47, a new closing high. The tech-heavyNasdaq Composite, which began the day up 1%, underperformed with a gain of just over 0.2%.</p><p>So far this week, the S&amp;P 500 is up 0.75%, the Dow is up less than 0.1% and the Nasdaq Composite is up 0.47%.</p><p>March spending jumped a better-than-expected 4.2%. Personal incomes surged by a massive 21.1% amid more fiscal stimulus.</p><p>The PCE price index for March increased 0.5% month-over-month and 2.3% on a year-over-year basis. The core PCE, excluding food and energy, rose 0.4% for March and 1.8% year-over-year. With operations now insevendifferent countries, the company empowers entrepreneurs to follow their passions by helping them grow their small businesses.</p>\n<p>The success of Etsy's 4.4million&nbsp;sellersis&nbsp;noteworthy. In the U.S., for example, these domestic sellers added $13billion&nbsp;of GDP to the economy and created 2.6 million jobs. But the value proposition is also significant for Etsy's 81.9million&nbsp;buyers. In a company survey conducted last year, an eye-popping 88%of buyers agreed that Etsy had goods they couldn't find anywhere else.</p>\n<p>Although Etsy's marketplace has been expanding rapidly for many years, the onset of the pandemic led sales to skyrocket 111% in 2020 compared to 2019. Consumers flocked to the website last spring to purchase masks, but the company's largest productcategories&nbsp;during the year were home furnishings, personal accessories, and craft supplies.</p>\n<p>Etsy truly does offer a differentiated service and experience for both its sellers and buyers. Both groups understand the value they receive, which should support the company's growth for many years to come.</p>\n<p>Because Etsy is a marketplace business (it simply connects buyers and sellers and owns no inventory itself), profits can soar even faster than the top line. In 2020, net income increased 264%&nbsp;from the prior year, something shareholders can appreciate.</p>\n<p>Management believes the market for \"special\" goods (what Etsy is known for) is roughly $100billion&nbsp;in its six core markets (not including India). Based on $10.3billion&nbsp;in gross merchandise sales (GMS) last year, that's 10% of the total market. If we include the massive opportunity in India, it's easy to see how much room Etsy still has to grow.</p>\n<p>2. Roku</p>\n<p>Besides exciting growth,<b>Roku</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:ROKU)has two similarities to Etsy: It's a platform business, and it's also benefiting from a strong secular trend, this time in streaming entertainment.</p>\n<p>Roku's licensed smart TVs and connected devices bring together viewers, streaming companies, and advertisers. It seems like the number of streaming services out there continues to rise, so this is a way for consumers to have all of their options in one place.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, the fact that 70%of streaming is watched on TVs makes Roku a strategic partner for content companies looking to reach more customers and advertisers that want to target these same customers as traditional cable TV keeps declining.</p>\n<p>Roku's ecosystem is a win-win-win for all parties, and the pandemic's acceleration of streaming only cemented this. Revenue in the most recent quarter (ended Dec. 31st) rose 58% year-over-year, with activeaccountsnow totaling 51.2 million. Engagement is also through the roof -- those accounts watched a whopping 17 billion hours of shows and movies in the quarter.</p>\n<p>Asthe business continues to scale up, the gross and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) margins expand meaningfully. The latter figure was 17.5%&nbsp;last quarter, a big uptick from being negative just two quarters earlier.</p>\n<p>It looks as though streaming is the way everyone will consume video in the future, and Roku stands to gain tremendously from this.</p>\n<p>Focus on what matters</p>\n<p>Unlike Dogecoin, Etsy and Roku are two legitimate business operations. They have huge expansion opportunities, which are further bolstered by their platform structures and network effects. And both deliver significant value to the various groups of users they serve.</p>\n<p>Some of the most successful and fastest-growing companies in recent times all have this trait, making it one of the best business models investors want to own. Forget about the latest cryptocurrency craze. Roku\nBesides exciting growth,Roku (NASDAQ:ROKU)has two similarities to Etsy: It's a platform business, and it's also benefiting from a strong secular trend, this time in streaming entertainment.\nRoku's licensed smart TVs and connected devices bring together viewers, streaming companies, and advertisers. It seems like the number of streaming services out there continues to rise, so this is a way for consumers to have all of their options in one place.\nFurthermore, the fact that 70%of streaming is watched on TVs makes Roku a strategic partner for content companies looking to reach more customers and advertisers that want to target these same customers as traditional cable TV keeps declining.\nRoku's ecosystem is a win-win-win for all parties, and the pandemic's acceleration of streaming only cemented this. Revenue in the most recent quarter (ended Dec. 31st) rose 58% year-over-year, with activeaccountsnow totaling 51.2 million. Engagement is also through the roof -- those accounts watched a whopping 17 billion hours of shows and movies in the quarter.\nAsthe business continues to scale up, the gross and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) margins expand meaningfully.
