No matter how many crashes or corrections the market endures, history has shown that the major U.S. indexes tend to increase in value over time.But just because iconic indexes like the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 rise over time, it doesn't mean every stock will be a winner. Based on a wide gamut of Wall Street price targets, select analysts and investment banks foresee the possibility of these ultra-popular stocks crashing in 2022.Tesla Motors: Implied downside of 65%There might not be a more popular stock with a wider range of expected outcomes from Wall Street than electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla Motors (TSLA). In one column are a small handful of investment banks calling for the EV giant to reach $1,400 (or more) over the next year. In the other column is JPMorgan analyst Ryan Brinkman, who, even after recently upping his firms' price target on Tesla, expects shares to plummet 65% to $325.This wide variance of Wall Street price targets for Tesla looks to be a reflection of the company's existing competitive advantages and innovation battling against constant delays and its lofty valuation.In terms of the former, Tesla still offers clear-cut competitive edges in the EV space. While the company's Battery Day presentation in 2020 was perceived as lackluster by Wall Street, it nevertheless highlighted the power, capacity, and range advantage the company holds over other EV producers.Tesla also has the capital and infrastructure necessary to significantly expand its output. Keeping in mind that roughly 750,000 EV deliveries was the expectation at the beginning of 2021, Tesla managed to deliver more than 936,000 EVs by year's end.  Mind you, this delivery increase takes into account the semiconductor chip shortages and supply chain issues the entire auto industry has been contending with.But Tesla isn't alone in the EV space. There are a bevy of established automakers with deep pockets, plenty of existing infrastructure, and well-known brand names, which'll give the EV kingpin a run for its money. This is a cyclical industry that's historically been valued at a mid- to high-single-digit price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio. Thus, Tesla's triple-digit P/E ratio hasn't sat well with some fundamental purists.What's more, the company has a long history of overpromising and under-delivering. This isn't to say that Tesla and CEO Elon Musk don't deserve credit for a number of innovative EVs and solutions. Rather, it's to point out that the timeline when products are expected to debut rarely comes to fruition. For instance, the Cybertruck will, at minimum, be delayed by at least two years from its forecast launch date.Although Tesla is the first automaker to build itself from the ground up to mass production in more than five decades, it still has a lot to prove.Bed Bath & Beyond: Implied downside of 41%Another ultra-popular stock that could be primed for a crash in 2022, according to Wall Street, is home furnishings retailer Bed Bath & Beyond . Bank of America Securities analyst Jason Haas has walked down the company's price target a couple of times, with the latest forecast calling for $9.50 a share. Considering that Bed Bath & Beyond closed above $16 last weekend, we're talking about an expected drop of 41%.Though shares of the company are well off their 52-week high, they've effectively quadrupled from their pandemic low. There look to be two reasons for this bounce. To begin with, the company has predominantly remained profitable despite challenges in the brick-and-mortar retail space.The other catalyst has been retail investors. Bed Bath & Beyond became part of the meme stock movement in 2021 and was heavily targeted by retail buyers hoping to catch a short squeeze.While even I, at times, have been a fan of the company's turnaround efforts, Haas's price target does give credence to the numerous challenges Bed Bath & Beyond is facing. In no particular order, the company is dealing with:Supply chain concerns caused by the pandemic.Historically high inflation that's pinching already razor-thin margins.Increasing competition from online retailers that have lower overhead and an easier pathway to undercut Bed Bath & Beyond on price.According to Haas, even with the company adding new fulfillment options, promoting direct-to-consumer sales, focusing on brand loyalty, and selling noncore assets to bolster its balance sheet, there's still a good chance its sales will lag over the next two years. Based on the comparable sales decline of 7% the company delivered in the November-ended quarter, Haas's skepticism may well be warranted.Ford Motor Company: Implied downside of 33%Take solace, Tesla investors, because you're not alone. According to analyst Adam Jonas of Morgan Stanley, Ford Motor Company  could crash to $12 in 2022. This implies it would lose an additional third of its value after shedding over a quarter of its market cap since Jan. 14.A recent research note from Jonas laid out the multiple reasons for his bearishness on Ford. This included the expectation for higher input costs, growing competition in the EV space, a cyclical mean reversion for the entire auto industry, and investors having unrealistic expectations for EV scaling, even in a post-pandemic environment.Among the points hit by Jonas, supply chain concerns and inflation would appear to be the most troublesome. Chip shortages clearly hurt Ford's production volume last year, and rapidly rising new and used vehicle prices could send buyers to the sidelines. In the very near term, Jonas' thesis may hold some water.But over the longer run, I believe Ford to be an exceptionally inexpensive company that has a multidecade growth opportunity on its doorstep. Ford's more than a century of brand history, as well as its existing infrastructure, will help it transition to become a key EV player in the U.S. and China over time.Additionally, the company's F-Series truck (specifically the F-150) has been the top-selling truck in the U.S. for 45 straight years, and more importantly the best-selling vehicle, period, in the U.S. for 40 years. This type of dominance and brand loyalty will translate positively as Ford beefs up spending on EVs in preparation for rolling out 30 new EVs globally by 2025.The price is also right with Ford. Shares can be purchased for less than nine times forecast earnings for 2022. The clean energy infrastructure company increased its dividend by 15% last year, boosting the yield to nearly 3.8%. That helped power 30% total returns last year, bringing its two-year total to more than 72%.The company has plenty of fuel to continue growing, which was one of the key takeaways from its recent fourth-quarter report. Here's a look at those numbers and what's ahead for the clean energy company.Another strong yearNextEra Energy Partners generated $1.36 billion of adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) last year along with $584 million in cash available for distribution (CAFD), up 7.7% and 2.5%, respectively. The main EBITDA driver was the impact of new projects added to the portfolio in the past year. Those new additions and lower corporate interest expenses helped power CAFD growth.Those results don't reflect the full impact of the company's earnings potential due to the timing of when it closed acquisitions last year. Its year-end portfolio's adjusted EBITDA run rate was between $1.635 billion and $1.795 billion, 26.1% higher than its 2021 full-year tally at the midpoint. Meanwhile, the portfolio's CAFD run rate was $640 million to $775 million, 16.4% above its 2021 total at the midpoint.Last year, NextEra Energy Partners acquired about 1.9 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy and storage assets from its sponsor, utility NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE). In addition, it purchased about 500 megawatts (MW) of wind energy projects in two transactions with third-party sellers. These deals helped drive last year's earnings and CAFD growth while setting the stage for continued growth in 2022.Adding more power to the dividend growth engineThe clean energy company continued to secure additional growth during the fourth quarter. In November, it exercised its right to purchase 100% of the outstanding minority equity interests in a portfolio of wind and solar assets supporting its 2018 convertible equity portfolio financing (CEPF) with a private equity fund. It paid $885 million in cash-and-stock to acquire these interests.The company also secured additional low-cost financing during the quarter. It closed a new 10-year, $820 million CEPF to help support the acquisition of a 50% interest in 2.52 GW of renewable energy projects and 115 MW of storage assets from NextEra.These deals enhanced the company's 2022 growth outlook. It currently expects to end the year with an EBITDA run-rate between $1.775 billion and $1.975 billion and a CAFD run-rate of $675 million to $765 million. That implies growth at the midpoint of 9.3% for EBITDA and 5.9% for CAFD.This forecast supports NextEra Energy Partners' view that it can grow its dividend by another 12% to 15% this year while maintaining a dividend payout ratio in the low-80% range. Meanwhile, it believes it can continue growing the dividend at the pace through at least 2024.Two factors support that longer-term dividend growth forecast. First, it has an abundance of acquisition opportunities. NextEra Energy alone has a vast portfolio of clean energy assets it can drop down to the partnership to help fund its extensive development pipeline. In addition, NextEra Energy Partners can purchase additional assets from third-party sellers. Meanwhile, the company continues to secure attractive financing to support its growth. Institutional investors like private equity funds continue to provide low-cost CEPF vehicles to close acquisitions. That enables the company to time the market to issue equity and retire this funding with less dilution to existing investors.A powerful dividend growth stockNextEra Energy Partners continues to offer investors the best of both worlds: income and growth. At one point in time, Southeast Asian ride-hailing and delivery company Grab Holdings (NASDAQ:GRAB) represented the largest ever special purpose acquisition company merger (SPAC)to date. That’s mind-blowing when we consider that many U.S. investors haven’t even heard of GRAB stock.The company is well-known in certain regions of the world, though. In fact, Grab is Southeast Asia’s largest ride-hailing and delivery company. It has operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and serves more than 187 million users.Yet, while Grab the company may be well-known in Southeast Asia, GRAB stock isn’t particularly popular on Wall Street. As we’ll see, it’s in imminent danger of becoming a penny stock, which can informally be defined as a stock that represents a small company and trades for less than $5 per share.That’s a potential problem, and a deep dive into the company’s financials will paint a dark picture of a ride-hailing business with major issues. So, if you’re not yet convinced to stay on the sidelines, stick around and we’ll discover together just how much damage has already been done.A Closer Look at GRAB StockGrab made its debuton the Nasdaq on Dec. 2, 2021, after the company reverse-merged with blank-check company Altimeter Growth Corp.The stock started off near $9, and it was all downhill from there. By the end of 2021, the share price has already declined to around $7.There was more pain ahead as GRAB stock tumbled to $5 and change on Jan. 21, 2022. To be honest, it’s too soon to establish any support levels for the stock.Besides, support levels are established when a stock bounces off of a particular price level. When a stock just keeps falling, there’s no support to speak of.Going forward, keep an eye on that critical $5 level. GRAB stock could easily plummet to new lows if the buyers can’t hold $5.Big Company, Big ProblemsWith a market capitalization of almost $21 billion, prospective investors might assume that Grab Holdings is a surefire winner.It’s a large company, but InvestorPlacecontributor Alex Sirois pointed out some equally large problems that Grab Holdings will have to deal with.As Sirois explained, “Widespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.”We’ll discuss the financial issues in a moment. Sirois’s concerns about Covid-19 in Southeast Asia are duly noted, though – and they’re echoed by some big-bank analysts, apparently.Reportedly, analysts at Asian Development Bank expect that Southeast Asian economies will recover at “a much slower pace” than previously thought.Lockdowns Weighing on RevenuesThis, as you might have surmised, is due to the recurrence of Covid-19 in the region. In 2022, the Asian Development Bank analysts expect Southeast Asia to grow by only 5%, slightly lower than their previous forecast.Clearly, Covid-19 lockdowns have been a problem for Grab Holdings and could continue to weigh on the company’s revenue and earnings.Indeed, for 2021’s third quarter, Grab Holdings acknowledged that the company’s revenue was down 9% year-over-year “as a result of a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.”Turning to the bottom-line results, Grab Holdings’ third-quarter 2021 earnings loss increased $366 million, to a staggering loss of $988 million.Hence, investors should steer clear as a nearly billion-dollar quarterly earnings loss is quite worrisome.The TakeawayAdmittedly, Grab Holdings is a famous company in Southeast Asia. It’s a large business, as we’ve learned, with a sizable market capitalization.Yet, this company has major problems. In particular, Covid-19 creates challenges for businesses in Southeast Asia right now.Then, there are the financial issues. Grab Holdings is moving in the wrong direction when it comes to revenue and earnings.It’s understandable if you want to diversify your investments into different world regions. However, not all international stocks are equally worthy of your investment capital.So, it’s probably a good idea to avoid GRAB stock for the time being. Workhorse lost 14.9% on the day.</p><p>FireEye&nbsp;rose 1.2% after industry sources identified the cybersecurity firm as among those helping Colonial Pipeline recover from the recent cyberattack.</p><p>Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 1.88-to-1 ratio; Small lies are dismissed, but big lies are believed.</p><p>Consider this bit of clickbait in my inbox that caught my eye over the weekend: <i>“</i>Easily 10x your Money with this Cryptocurrency.” One reason it got my attention is that it was written by an individual who three months ago wrote a similar attention-grabbing piece entitled “100x Your Money With This Cryptocurrency.”</p><p>The particular cryptocurrency he was championing in February is 13% lower today.</p><p>For the record, I have no idea whether this individual was intentionally bending the truth. But the fact remains that no one produces long-term annualized returns in excess of percentages in the low double digits, whether for stocks or investments like bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.</p><p>No one. To claim that producing a 10x or a 100x return is “easy” is the functional equivalent of lying—even if the claim’s perpetrators don’t intend it to be.</p><p>That’s not to say that triple or even quadruple-digit returns aren’t occasionally—very occasionally—produced. But so are jackpots in Vegas. Because strategies that have even the potential of producing short-term gains that big are extraordinarily risky, regression to the mean will inevitably and quickly bring such returns back down to earth.</p><p>Consider the evidence from my four decades of tracking the performance of investment newsletters. The accompanying chart reports the portfolio returns among monitored newsletters that are the highest over various holding periods. Over the last 12 months, the scoreboard-topping return is 248%. Extend that holding period to the last five years, in contrast, and the return at the top of scoreboard is a lot lower, at 33% annualized.</p><p>This declining trend continues as holding period lengthens, as the chart shows. By the time we’re focusing on the last 40 years, the best return is now 14.0% annualized.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1e72f13ee9de2c745913ad0debd3b6c0\" tg-width=\"620\" tg-height=\"418\"></p><p>Don’t think that this pattern is unique to the investment newsletter industry. Almost identical results emerge for mutual funds and hedge funds as well.</p><p>The best documented long-term return that I know of was produced by the private Medallion Fund, from Renaissance Technologies. Brad Cornell, a professor emeritus at UCLA, reports that this fund produced a 39.2% annualized return (after fees) between 1988 and 2018, in contrast to 10.0% annualized for the S&amp;P 500 index&nbsp;That fund’s return is so much better than that of anyone else on Wall Street that Cornell has confessed to have been “dumbfounded;” he said the return is the functional equivalent of the “sun rising in the west.”</p><p>And, yet, notice that the Medallion Fund’s return that so strained credulity was “just” 39% annualized. That’s a long way from an “easy” 100x return in a cryptocurrency.</p><p>If you’re a baby boomer, you already know and accept these lessons. If you’re from Gen Z, in contrast, the school of hard knocks has yet to teach you those lessons too.</p><p>I devoted a column a month ago to this correlation between age and risk-taking in the latter stages of a bull market. Until the youngest investors suffer through their first major bear market, they are fearless risk takers, convinced that making money is easy. Investors of a more advanced age, who have lived through one or more severe bear markets, are older and wiser.</p><p>This contrast was borne out yet again in a recent report from GamblersPick, a website that reviews online casinos. The website surveyed 872 investors about their risk tolerance; the respondents were almost equally divided between the four generations listed in the table below.
