The stock has pulled back since then and is currently trading roughly 40% off the highs.</p>\n<p>Against this backdrop, it has emerged that&nbsp;the company has started laying the groundwork for the next Nio Day.</p>\n<p><b>What Happened:</b>Nio posted on its Nio App that cities can now start bidding for hosting Nio Day 2021, a Nio spokesperson confirmed to Benzinga.</p>\n<p>The bidding process as&nbsp;explained&nbsp;by CnEVPost is as follows:</p>\n<p>The applications on behalf of the host city should be submitted by local Nio Clubs, and if a city has more than one Nio Club, a joint bid can be made.</p>\n<p>Nio mandates&nbsp;a potential&nbsp;host city should not have hosted Nio Day in the past eight years.</p>\n<p>The city should have an indoor venue with a seating capacity of more than&nbsp;8,000 and&nbsp;available for hosting 10&nbsp;consecutive days sometime between Dec. 1, 2021&nbsp;and Jan. 15, 2022.</p>\n<p>The company has provided a time window of June 4 through June 8 for submitting an intent to apply. After conducting preliminary surveys in shortlisted cities from June 9 to June 15, Nio will start receiving applications.</p>\n<p>Following the evaluation of applications, the company will shortlist three cities on July 3 and present the list on the Nio App, allowing Nio users to vote July 23 and 24. The final winner will be decided based on the votes.</p>\n<p><b>Why It's Important:</b>Nio Day is an annual event for Nio users and other guests.&nbsp;The company has been hosting the event since 2017&nbsp;when the first Nio Day was in Beijing, where its first mass-produced model, the ES8, debuted.</p>\n<p>Nio Day 2020&nbsp;was held in Chengdu on Jan. 9, 2021. The annual event meant for 2020 was pushed to early 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company unveiled its first-ever sedan, named ET7, at the event. It also made product and service-related announcements.</p>\n<p>Several rumors have surfaced regarding a mass-market model from Nio under a different brand name. Great news,\" tweeted \"Rich Dad, Poor Dad\" author Robert Kiyosaki on Sunday , saying it provides a good buying opportunity. \"When price hits $27,000 I may start buying again. Lot will depend upon global-macro environment. Remember the problem is not gold, silver, or Bitcoin. Problem are the incompetents in government, Fed &amp; Wall Street. It's just a matter of when and how it happens.\"PHIL GIBBS, DIRECTOR OF METALS EQUITY RESEARCH AT KEYBANC CAPITAL MARKETS</blockquote><p>\"This is going to be short-lived. It's very appropriate to call this a bubble,\" Bank of America analyst Timna Tanners told CNN Business, using the \"b-word\" that equity analysts from major banks typically avoid.</p><p>After bottoming out around $460 last year, US benchmark hot-rolled coil steel prices are now sitting at around $1,500 a ton, a record high that is nearly triple the 20-year average.</p><p>Steel stocks are on fire.US Steel(X), whichcrashed to a record low last Marchamid bankruptcy fears, has skyrocketed 200% in just 12 months.Nucor(NUE)has spiked 76% this year alone.</p><p>While \"scarcity and panic\" are lifting steel prices and stocks today, Tanners predicted a painful reversal as supply catches up with what she described as unimpressive demand.\"</p><p>We expect this will correct — and often when it corrects, it over-corrects,\" said Tanners, a two-decade veteran of the metals industry who authored a report last week headlined \"Steel stocks in a bubble.\"<img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f33289af0729f9042e5dcc23e7f56ad7\" tg-width=\"782\" tg-height=\"522\">'A bit frothy'</p><p>Phil Gibbs, director of metals equity research at KeyBanc Capital Markets, agreed that steel prices are at unsustainable levels.</p><p>\"This would be like $170-a-barrel oil. At some point, people will say, 'F this, I'm not going to drive, I will take the bus,'\" Gibbs told CNN Business. \"The correction will be very intense. It's just a matter of when and how it happens.\"</p><p>Gibbs said he is \"more confident the steel price is in a bubble,\" rather than that steel stocks themselves are in a bubble.</p><p>The steel bubble buzz is just the latest debate about the sustainability of booming pockets of the market in this era of rock-bottom interest rates. Bitcoin, ethereum, dogecoin and other cryptocurrencies are on fire. GameStop (GME), AMC (AMC) and their fellow Reddit-fueled stocks skyrocketed earlier this year. And blank-check companies, some backed by celebrities, are raising gobs of money.</p><p>Even Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has acknowledged the risk of overspeculation.</p><p>\"You are seeing things in capital markets that are a bit frothy,\" Powell said during last week's press conference. \"That's a fact. I won't say it has nothing to do with monetary policy, but also it has a tremendous amount to do with vaccination and reopening of the economy.\"</p><p>Yet another shortage as the economy reopens</p><p>Steel is just the latest shortage to hit the US economy as it recovers from a pandemic that scrambled supply chains and set off sharp shifts in demand.</p><p>Everything from computer chips and lumber to chlorine and tanker truck drivers are in short supply. Manufacturers, restaurants and other businesses are also desperate for workers.</p><p>Meanwhile, the International Energy Agency warned this week that there isn't enough copper, lithium and other raw earth minerals available to make global clean energy ambitions a reality. The world risks \"running out of copper,\" Bank of America strategists said in a recent note to clients.</p><p>Much like lumber, the steel industry was caught off guard by the rapid recovery in demand that began last summer — especially in the auto industry.</p><p>\"All of a sudden people were buying lots of cars,\" said Tanners, the Bank of America analyst.</p><p>And it took time for America's aging steel mills to resume the production they had sharply cut at the onset of the pandemic. Steel inventories shrank rapidly and shipments were delayed, just as steel buyers began ordering more than usual.</p><p>'Peak' prices?</p><p>The good news, for steel buyers at least, is that analysts say all of the US steel production capacity that was idled during the pandemic has returned.</p><p>That's why Tanners said she's very confident the shortage will soon end, causing steel prices to collapse. History shows that steel stocks \"tend to peak\" a month or so before steel prices, Tanners wrote in her report.</p><p>She said US Steel in particular is vulnerable to a commodity downturn because it has the most amount of debt and the greatest need to spend to upgrade its plants.</p><p>But for now, steel stocks may continue to look attractive to investors because the industry is minting money at the moment. The North American flat steel sector is expected to generate record earnings in 2021, according to Citigroup.</p><p>\"Current steel prices are peak (or close to it) ... and will correct sharply lower at some point,\" Citi analyst Alexander Hacking wrote in a note to clients Wednesday. \"The current scenario presents investors with the classic peak earnings dilemma.\"</p><p>Hacking warned though that steel stocks can't escape a commodity downturn. \"We can recall exactly zero examples where steel equities have gone up during 25%+ metal price corrections,\" he wrote.</p><p>The fate of Trump's tariffs</p><p>Of course, those predicting a steel downturn may be underestimating the strength of the global economic recovery. A longer lasting boom could lift steel demand enough to keep prices lofty. Expensive Credit</p>\n<p>It has been 40 years since the prime U.S. lending rate exceeded 20%, back when former Fed Chair Paul Volcker waged a lasting battle against runaway inflation.</p>\n<p>Since then, generations of U.S. homeowners have been able to snap up 30-year fixed rate mortgage rates at 5% and they are now nearer to 3%.</p>\n<p>\"Obviously, what inflation means differs for savers and Main Street from Wall Street,\" said Nela Richardson, ADP's chief economist, adding that people still bought homes and took out home loans when mortgage rates were at 18% in the 1980s.</p>\n<p>\"Bond investors are more confident in an economy that requires higher yields to hold relatively safe assets,\" Richardson said, but he added that markets tend to get jittery if higher yields end up meaning \"the end of cheap money and virtually free credit.\"</p>\n<p>Trillions of dollars worth of pandemic fiscal stimulus from Congress coursing through the economy, just as more U.S. vaccinations potentially lead to a broader reopening of businesses this summer, could put inflation expectations to the test.</p>\n<p>\"Because we haven't seen inflation since Volcker, I think market participants are concerned this could unleash it,\" said Brian Kloss, global credit portfolio manager at Brandywine Global.</p>\n<p>Kloss said \"basic industries, commodities and companies that have pricing power,\" should do well for shareholders in an inflationary environment, but he also cautioned that in the coming few weeks, following spring break gatherings, that the U.S. will have more clues as to the status of the COVID-19 threat.</p>\n<p>If the U.S. can avoid a spike in new coronavirus cases, unlike Europe where further lockdowns remain a threat, it \"could be <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of the first signs of a robust summer, heading into fall,\" he said.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the bond market appears to already be signaling it has embraced the Fed's commitment to keeping monetary policy accommodative for some time to come, said Robert Tipp, PGIM Fixed Income's chief investment strategist.</p>\n<p>He pointed to Treasury break-even rates that recently topped 2% as a signal that the bond market expects inflation to creep up from emergency levels, based on break-evens, an indicator of future price pressures .</p>\n<p>But even if 10-year rates climb back to 3% and inflation rises along with the Fed's new 6.9% GDP growth forecast for this year, Tripp expects both to fall back to the lower levels familiar over the past four-decades.</p>\n<p>After the 2008 global financial crisis, people were forecasting \"inflation Armageddon\" and that the \"Fed would never be able to get out of that policy\" of quantitative easing, he said.</p>\n<p>\"But of course they did,\" Tipp said.</p>\n<p>Next week will bring a deluge of U.S. economic data. Monday and Tuesday will see the release of existing and new homes sales for February. Any pullback by spenders could hurt the recovering economy, even before it fully reopens from the lockdowns imposed to combat the coronavirus pandemic.\nBut Ramos also thinks some old rules for financial markets have met their past due date and should be retired, particularly after yields in the $21 trillion U.S. government Treasury market tumbled to last year's record lows .\nU.S. Treasurys long have served as a reliable asset class for institutional investors seeking protection against deflation, Ramos said, but he also called what drove Treasury yields so low last year a \"sign of sickness,\" when it \"looked like the world was going to fall apart on us.\"\nRising yields in today's environment come as more Americans get vaccinated and Google searches for Disney vacations spike, signs of an economy returning to health, according to Ramos. \"One thing I tell people is that they are going to be able to afford more, even though it's going to cost more,\" he said.\nPowell Patience\nThis idea hinges on the ability of the U.S. to reclaim some 9.5 million jobs lost during the pandemic.
