About half of the index is dedicated to technology stocks, but with more than 80% of the Nasdaq Composite composed of the big three growth sectors - tech, consumer discretionary and communication services - it&#39;s safe to say that this is one to consider if you&#39;re a risk seeker.</p><p>If you&#39;re looking to add Nasdaq exposure to your portfolio, there are three primary ETFs that you should consider - the <b>Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ)</b>, the <b>Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM)</b> and the <b>Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ)</b>.</p><p>QQQ is the big one that everybody is familiar with. It&#39;s currently the 5th largest ETF in the marketplace with more than $150 billion in assets and is the largest that isn&#39;t focused on the S&amp;P 500 or total U.S. stock market.</p><p>QQQM is essentially the same as the QQQ, but with a lower expense ratio. Why would you choose one over the other if they&#39;re both the same? We&#39;ll get to that in a minute.</p><p>QQQJ targets the next 100 names below the Nasdaq 100, which QQQ and QQQM are based on. They offer exposure a little different than the others, but have bigger growth potential.</p><p>How should an investor decide between QQQ, QQQM and QQQJ? Let&#39;s break down each of them one by one.</p><p><b>Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ)</b></p><p>QQQ tracks the Nasdaq 100 index. It&#39;s been around for more than 20 years and consists of 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/219e726ef5be4b35e0e31aae57497599\" tg-width=\"1093\" tg-height=\"554\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) Profile</span></p><p>I won&#39;t spend any more time talking about the tech-heavy nature of QQQ because most are familiar with it already, but the one thing worth noting for the purpose of this comparison is its expense ratio. At 0.20%, it&#39;s relatively inexpensive, but not nearly as cheap as many of the broad market ETFs from the likes of Vanguard and BlackRock, which often have expense ratios of 0.05% or less.</p><p>Keep that in mind as we take a look at the next ETF on the list.</p><p><b>Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM)</b></p><p>QQQM also tracks the Nasdaq 100 index.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0f741ce0e7dbf24ef416656d1dc5f97a\" tg-width=\"1091\" tg-height=\"566\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM) Profile</span></p><p>If you just did a double-take reading that last sentence, yes, you&#39;re reading it correctly. Invesco operates TWO ETFs that both track the Nasdaq 100. There&#39;s no gimmicks, no frills, no hidden fine print. Just two Nasdaq 100 ETFs.</p><p>So, what&#39;s the difference between QQQ and QQQM exactly? The answer is the expense ratio. QQQ charges 0.20% and QQQM charges 0.15%.</p><p>You may be asking yourself: if Invesco wanted to charge 0.15% for an ETF that tracks the Nasdaq 100, why didn&#39;t it just lower the expense ratio on QQQ? It&#39;s a good question and the answer, quite simply, is money. Just 0.05%, the difference between the two expense ratios, on a $150 billion asset base is about $75 million in revenue annually. Invesco may not come right out and say it, but why in the world would they give up that kind of revenue when it&#39;s already the 5th largest ETF around even with the higher expense ratio?</p><p>Launching QQQM with a lower expense ratio gives investors the opportunity to achieve the same exposure with a lower cost.</p><p>If QQQM is available for cheaper than QQQ, does that make QQQ irrelevant? Not exactly.</p><p>The answer to the question of which ETF you should choose comes down to a couple of things. First, while the expense ratio of QQQM is lower, you have to consider the total cost of ownership. By that, I mean you have to look at the expense ratio as well as the spread. The spread is essentially a measure of liquidity and is the cost of trading shares. Generally speaking, the larger a fund is and the more people it has trading shares, the lower the spread.</p><p>QQQM has more than $4 billion in assets, which represents strong and consistent growth of assets over time, but QQQ has more than $150 billion. Not surprisingly, its trading costs are lower, but only by a hair.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/727505633b58d73a8cadf935bc750c0b\" tg-width=\"444\" tg-height=\"236\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>QQQ vs. QQQM vs. QQQJ Trading Spreads</span></p><p>The &#34;average spread&#34; column is the one we want to look at. The spread on QQQ is virtually nothing because it&#39;s so large. QQQM&#39;s spread, while larger, is still just 2 basis points. It&#39;s not nothing, but it&#39;s still a very small number. When tallied together, the total cost of ownership for QQQM is 0.17% (the 0.15% expense ratio plus the 0.02% spread) vs. 0.21% for QQQ.</p><p>From a total cost of ownership perspective, QQQM edges out QQQ.</p><p>That doesn&#39;t mean QQQ can&#39;t still be useful. If you&#39;re trading a very large block of shares, the liquidity of QQQ could make it the better choice, but you&#39;d be talking a huge block of shares. For most retail investors, it will be a non-issue. If you&#39;re a long-term buy-and-hold investor, QQQM holds a slight advantage over QQQ.</p><p>QQQJ, however, is a whole different story.</p><p><b>Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ)</b></p><p>QQQJ tracks the Nasdaq Next Generation 100 index. It also eliminates financial stocks from consideration and targets the next 100 companies that would potentially be eligible for inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 if they manage to grow large enough.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abebf8cdb3f7f17d52effc3483ebdc85\" tg-width=\"1092\" tg-height=\"586\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ) Profile</span></p><p>The idea behind buying QQQJ would involve the same logic for why you&#39;d be buying small-caps. You want to get ahead of the curve by buying them before they become large-caps.</p><p>History shows that about 1/3 of Next Gen 100 members do indeed go on to become eventual members of the Nasdaq 100. These components have historically delivered higher revenue growth, higher dividend growth rates and greater commitments to R&amp;D spending that those of the Nasdaq 100, according to Invesco research.</p><p>Obviously, there&#39;s no overlap between QQQ and QQQJ, but investors should know that they&#39;re getting substantially similar sector exposure (with one notable exception, which I&#39;ll get into in a moment). Because QQQJ is less than 2 years old, we don&#39;t have a lot of history to go off of, but shorter-term volatility measures suggest that the fund is about 20% more volatile than QQQ.</p><p><b>QQQ vs. QQQJ Asset Allocation</b></p><p>Both ETFs come in with a heavy tech and growth tilt, but QQQJ finds a lot of bubbling under stocks in the healthcare sector.</p><p>As mentioned earlier, there is very little in the Nasdaq 100 that falls outside of one of the big three growth sectors.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/09389c158258b0176e571b36630c4c5f\" tg-width=\"805\" tg-height=\"406\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>QQQ Asset Allocation</span></p><p>Those three sectors are well-represented in QQQJ as well, but it triples the exposure of healthcare to roughly 20% of the fund&#39;s overall allocation compared to just over 6% in QQQ.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1b56e3aa118cdcf7f7ef3ac5af8d6248\" tg-width=\"804\" tg-height=\"405\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>QQQJ Asset Allocation</span></p><p>Outside of an 9% weighting to industrials, there&#39;s virtually nothing outside of the top 5 sectors. The success of QQQJ will be heavily dependent on growth stocks continuing to perform well, but the sizable allocation to healthcare gives it a bit of a different profile.</p><p><b>Conclusion</b></p><p>So, what are our investment choices overall?</p><p>QQQJ is obviously a different product than the other two, so we can consider that separately. It&#39;s more of a classic mid-cap growth ETF with a heavy tech tilt, so this would be appropriate for anyone looking to augment existing tech exposure in their portfolios or someone looking to add a punch of growth to more conservative portfolio. The success of the Next Gen 100 stocks has been proven over time and it&#39;s a nice way to be invested in the emerging up-and-comers.</p><p>QQQ vs. QQQM is a little more nuanced and the choice of which is better really depends on what you&#39;re going to use it for.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3e53d4385f3fef5f2017a97962348a9b\" tg-width=\"721\" tg-height=\"234\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>QQQ vs. QQQM vs. QQQJ Expense Ratios</span></p><p>If you&#39;re a short-term trader and someone looking for a lot of liquidity in the market, QQQ is probably the better choice. If you&#39;re going to be in and out relatively quickly, it&#39;s better to go with the ETF with virtually no trading costs instead of taking a chance that you get hit with a higher spread.</p><p>Longer-term investors would probably benefit from QQQM. About half of the index is dedicated to technology stocks, but with more than 80% of the Nasdaq Composite composed of the big three growth sectors - tech, consumer discretionary and communication services - it's safe to say that this is one to consider if you're a risk seeker.If you're looking to add Nasdaq exposure to your portfolio, there are three primary ETFs that you should consider - the Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ), the Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM) and the Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ).QQQ is the big one that everybody is familiar with. It's currently the 5th largest ETF in the marketplace with more than $150 billion in assets and is the largest that isn't focused on the S&P 500 or total U.S. stock market.QQQM is essentially the same as the QQQ, but with a lower expense ratio. Why would you choose one over the other if they're both the same? We'll get to that in a minute.QQQJ targets the next 100 names below the Nasdaq 100, which QQQ and QQQM are based on. They offer exposure a little different than the others, but have bigger growth potential.How should an investor decide between QQQ, QQQM and QQQJ? Let's break down each of them one by one.Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ)QQQ tracks the Nasdaq 100 index. It's been around for more than 20 years and consists of 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange.Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) ProfileI won't spend any more time talking about the tech-heavy nature of QQQ because most are familiar with it already, but the one thing worth noting for the purpose of this comparison is its expense ratio. At 0.20%, it's relatively inexpensive, but not nearly as cheap as many of the broad market ETFs from the likes of Vanguard and BlackRock, which often have expense ratios of 0.05% or less.Keep that in mind as we take a look at the next ETF on the list.Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM)QQQM also tracks the Nasdaq 100 index.Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM) ProfileIf you just did a double-take reading that last sentence, yes, you're reading it correctly. Invesco operates TWO ETFs that both track the Nasdaq 100. There's no gimmicks, no frills, no hidden fine print. Just two Nasdaq 100 ETFs.So, what's the difference between QQQ and QQQM exactly? The answer is the expense ratio. QQQ charges 0.20% and QQQM charges 0.15%.You may be asking yourself: if Invesco wanted to charge 0.15% for an ETF that tracks the Nasdaq 100, why didn't it just lower the expense ratio on QQQ? It's a good question and the answer, quite simply, is money. Just 0.05%, the difference between the two expense ratios, on a $150 billion asset base is about $75 million in revenue annually. Invesco may not come right out and say it, but why in the world would they give up that kind of revenue when it's already the 5th largest ETF around even with the higher expense ratio?Launching QQQM with a lower expense ratio gives investors the opportunity to achieve the same exposure with a lower cost.If QQQM is available for cheaper than QQQ, does that make QQQ irrelevant? Not exactly.The answer to the question of which ETF you should choose comes down to a couple of things. First, while the expense ratio of QQQM is lower, you have to consider the total cost of ownership. By that, I mean you have to look at the expense ratio as well as the spread. The spread is essentially a measure of liquidity and is the cost of trading shares. Generally speaking, the larger a fund is and the more people it has trading shares, the lower the spread.QQQM has more than $4 billion in assets, which represents strong and consistent growth of assets over time, but QQQ has more than $150 billion. Not surprisingly, its trading costs are lower, but only by a hair.QQQ vs. QQQM vs. QQQJ Trading SpreadsThe \"average spread\" column is the one we want to look at. The spread on QQQ is virtually nothing because it's so large. QQQM's spread, while larger, is still just 2 basis points. It's not nothing, but it's still a very small number. When tallied together, the total cost of ownership for QQQM is 0.17% (the 0.15% expense ratio plus the 0.02% spread) vs. 0.21% for QQQ.From a total cost of ownership perspective, QQQM edges out QQQ.That doesn't mean QQQ can't still be useful. If you're trading a very large block of shares, the liquidity of QQQ could make it the better choice, but you'd be talking a huge block of shares. For most retail investors, it will be a non-issue. If you're a long-term buy-and-hold investor, QQQM holds a slight advantage over QQQ.QQQJ, however, is a whole different story.Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ)QQQJ tracks the Nasdaq Next Generation 100 index. It also eliminates financial stocks from consideration and targets the next 100 companies that would potentially be eligible for inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 if they manage to grow large enough.Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ) ProfileThe idea behind buying QQQJ would involve the same logic for why you'd be buying small-caps. You want to get ahead of the curve by buying them before they become large-caps.History shows that about 1/3 of Next Gen 100 members do indeed go on to become eventual members of the Nasdaq 100. These components have historically delivered higher revenue growth, higher dividend growth rates and greater commitments to R&D spending that those of the Nasdaq 100, according to Invesco research.Obviously, there's no overlap between QQQ and QQQJ, but investors should know that they're getting substantially similar sector exposure (with one notable exception, which I'll get into in a moment). Because QQQJ is less than 2 years old, we don't have a lot of history to go off of, but shorter-term volatility measures suggest that the fund is about 20% more volatile than QQQ.QQQ vs. QQQJ Asset AllocationBoth ETFs come in with a heavy tech and growth tilt, but QQQJ finds a lot of bubbling under stocks in the healthcare sector.As mentioned earlier, there is very little in the Nasdaq 100 that falls outside of one of the big three growth sectors.QQQ Asset AllocationThose three sectors are well-represented in QQQJ as well, but it triples the exposure of healthcare to roughly 20% of the fund's overall allocation compared to just over 6% in QQQ.QQQJ Asset AllocationOutside of an 9% weighting to industrials, there's virtually nothing outside of the top 5 sectors. The success of QQQJ will be heavily dependent on growth stocks continuing to perform well, but the sizable allocation to healthcare gives it a bit of a different profile.ConclusionSo, what are our investment choices overall?QQQJ is obviously a different product than the other two, so we can consider that separately. It's more of a classic mid-cap growth ETF with a heavy tech tilt, so this would be appropriate for anyone looking to augment existing tech exposure in their portfolios or someone looking to add a punch of growth to more conservative portfolio. The success of the Next Gen 100 stocks has been proven over time and it's a nice way to be invested in the emerging up-and-comers.QQQ vs. QQQM is a little more nuanced and the choice of which is better really depends on what you're going to use it for.QQQ vs. QQQM vs. QQQJ Expense RatiosIf you're a short-term trader and someone looking for a lot of liquidity in the market, QQQ is probably the better choice. If you're going to be in and out relatively quickly, it's better to go with the ETF with virtually no trading costs instead of taking a chance that you get hit with a higher spread.Longer-term investors would probably benefit from QQQM. Let's break down each of them one by one.","content":"<html><head></head><body><p>The Nasdaq was become synonymous with the tech sector, although that comparison isn&#39;t entirely fair. About half of the index is dedicated to technology stocks, but with more than 80% of the Nasdaq Composite composed of the big three growth sectors - tech, consumer discretionary and communication services - it&#39;s safe to say that this is one to consider if you&#39;re a risk seeker.</p><p>If you&#39;re looking to add Nasdaq exposure to your portfolio, there are three primary ETFs that you should consider - the <b>Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ)</b>, the <b>Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM)</b> and the <b>Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ)</b>.</p><p>QQQ is the big one that everybody is familiar with. It&#39;s currently the 5th largest ETF in the marketplace with more than $150 billion in assets and is the largest that isn&#39;t focused on the S&amp;P 500 or total U.S. stock market.</p><p>QQQM is essentially the same as the QQQ, but with a lower expense ratio. Why would you choose one over the other if they&#39;re both the same? We&#39;ll get to that in a minute.</p><p>QQQJ targets the next 100 names below the Nasdaq 100, which QQQ and QQQM are based on. They offer exposure a little different than the others, but have bigger growth potential.</p><p>How should an investor decide between QQQ, QQQM and QQQJ? Let&#39;s break down each of them one by one.</p><p><b>Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ)</b></p><p>QQQ tracks the Nasdaq 100 index. It&#39;s been around for more than 20 years and consists of 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/219e726ef5be4b35e0e31aae57497599\" tg-width=\"1093\" tg-height=\"554\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) Profile</span></p><p>I won&#39;t spend any more time talking about the tech-heavy nature of QQQ because most are familiar with it already, but the one thing worth noting for the purpose of this comparison is its expense ratio. At 0.20%, it&#39;s relatively inexpensive, but not nearly as cheap as many of the broad market ETFs from the likes of Vanguard and BlackRock, which often have expense ratios of 0.05% or less.</p><p>Keep that in mind as we take a look at the next ETF on the list.</p><p><b>Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM)</b></p><p>QQQM also tracks the Nasdaq 100 index.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0f741ce0e7dbf24ef416656d1dc5f97a\" tg-width=\"1091\" tg-height=\"566\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM) Profile</span></p><p>If you just did a double-take reading that last sentence, yes, you&#39;re reading it correctly. Invesco operates TWO ETFs that both track the Nasdaq 100. There&#39;s no gimmicks, no frills, no hidden fine print. Just two Nasdaq 100 ETFs.</p><p>So, what&#39;s the difference between QQQ and QQQM exactly? The answer is the expense ratio. QQQ charges 0.20% and QQQM charges 0.15%.</p><p>You may be asking yourself: if Invesco wanted to charge 0.15% for an ETF that tracks the Nasdaq 100, why didn&#39;t it just lower the expense ratio on QQQ? It&#39;s a good question and the answer, quite simply, is money. Just 0.05%, the difference between the two expense ratios, on a $150 billion asset base is about $75 million in revenue annually. Invesco may not come right out and say it, but why in the world would they give up that kind of revenue when it&#39;s already the 5th largest ETF around even with the higher expense ratio?</p><p>Launching QQQM with a lower expense ratio gives investors the opportunity to achieve the same exposure with a lower cost.</p><p>If QQQM is available for cheaper than QQQ, does that make QQQ irrelevant? Not exactly.</p><p>The answer to the question of which ETF you should choose comes down to a couple of things. First, while the expense ratio of QQQM is lower, you have to consider the total cost of ownership. By that, I mean you have to look at the expense ratio as well as the spread. The spread is essentially a measure of liquidity and is the cost of trading shares. Generally speaking, the larger a fund is and the more people it has trading shares, the lower the spread.</p><p>QQQM has more than $4 billion in assets, which represents strong and consistent growth of assets over time, but QQQ has more than $150 billion. Not surprisingly, its trading costs are lower, but only by a hair.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/727505633b58d73a8cadf935bc750c0b\" tg-width=\"444\" tg-height=\"236\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>QQQ vs. QQQM vs. QQQJ Trading Spreads</span></p><p>The &#34;average spread&#34; column is the one we want to look at. The spread on QQQ is virtually nothing because it&#39;s so large. QQQM&#39;s spread, while larger, is still just 2 basis points. It&#39;s not nothing, but it&#39;s still a very small number. When tallied together, the total cost of ownership for QQQM is 0.17% (the 0.15% expense ratio plus the 0.02% spread) vs. 0.21% for QQQ.</p><p>From a total cost of ownership perspective, QQQM edges out QQQ.</p><p>That doesn&#39;t mean QQQ can&#39;t still be useful. If you&#39;re trading a very large block of shares, the liquidity of QQQ could make it the better choice, but you&#39;d be talking a huge block of shares. For most retail investors, it will be a non-issue. If you&#39;re a long-term buy-and-hold investor, QQQM holds a slight advantage over QQQ.</p><p>QQQJ, however, is a whole different story.</p><p><b>Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ)</b></p><p>QQQJ tracks the Nasdaq Next Generation 100 index. It also eliminates financial stocks from consideration and targets the next 100 companies that would potentially be eligible for inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 if they manage to grow large enough.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abebf8cdb3f7f17d52effc3483ebdc85\" tg-width=\"1092\" tg-height=\"586\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ) Profile</span></p><p>The idea behind buying QQQJ would involve the same logic for why you&#39;d be buying small-caps. You want to get ahead of the curve by buying them before they become large-caps.</p><p>History shows that about 1/3 of Next Gen 100 members do indeed go on to become eventual members of the Nasdaq 100. These components have historically delivered higher revenue growth, higher dividend growth rates and greater commitments to R&amp;D spending that those of the Nasdaq 100, according to Invesco research.</p><p>Obviously, there&#39;s no overlap between QQQ and QQQJ, but investors should know that they&#39;re getting substantially similar sector exposure (with one notable exception, which I&#39;ll get into in a moment). Because QQQJ is less than 2 years old, we don&#39;t have a lot of history to go off of, but shorter-term volatility measures suggest that the fund is about 20% more volatile than QQQ.</p><p><b>QQQ vs. QQQJ Asset Allocation</b></p><p>Both ETFs come in with a heavy tech and growth tilt, but QQQJ finds a lot of bubbling under stocks in the healthcare sector.</p><p>As mentioned earlier, there is very little in the Nasdaq 100 that falls outside of one of the big three growth sectors.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/09389c158258b0176e571b36630c4c5f\" tg-width=\"805\" tg-height=\"406\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>QQQ Asset Allocation</span></p><p>Those three sectors are well-represented in QQQJ as well, but it triples the exposure of healthcare to roughly 20% of the fund&#39;s overall allocation compared to just over 6% in QQQ.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1b56e3aa118cdcf7f7ef3ac5af8d6248\" tg-width=\"804\" tg-height=\"405\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>QQQJ Asset Allocation</span></p><p>Outside of an 9% weighting to industrials, there&#39;s virtually nothing outside of the top 5 sectors. The success of QQQJ will be heavily dependent on growth stocks continuing to perform well, but the sizable allocation to healthcare gives it a bit of a different profile.</p><p><b>Conclusion</b></p><p>So, what are our investment choices overall?</p><p>QQQJ is obviously a different product than the other two, so we can consider that separately. It&#39;s more of a classic mid-cap growth ETF with a heavy tech tilt, so this would be appropriate for anyone looking to augment existing tech exposure in their portfolios or someone looking to add a punch of growth to more conservative portfolio. The success of the Next Gen 100 stocks has been proven over time and it&#39;s a nice way to be invested in the emerging up-and-comers.</p><p>QQQ vs. QQQM is a little more nuanced and the choice of which is better really depends on what you&#39;re going to use it for.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3e53d4385f3fef5f2017a97962348a9b\" tg-width=\"721\" tg-height=\"234\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/><span>QQQ vs. QQQM vs. QQQJ Expense Ratios</span></p><p>If you&#39;re a short-term trader and someone looking for a lot of liquidity in the market, QQQ is probably the better choice. If you&#39;re going to be in and out relatively quickly, it&#39;s better to go with the ETF with virtually no trading costs instead of taking a chance that you get hit with a higher spread.</p><p>Longer-term investors would probably benefit from QQQM. It's currently the 5th largest ETF in the marketplace with more than $150 billion in assets and is the largest that isn't focused on the S&P 500 or total U.S. stock market.QQQM is essentially the same as the QQQ, but with a lower expense ratio. Why would you choose one over the other if they're both the same? We'll get to that in a minute.QQQJ targets the next 100 names below the Nasdaq 100, which QQQ and QQQM are based on. They offer exposure a little different than the others, but have bigger growth potential.How should an investor decide between QQQ, QQQM and QQQJ? Let's break down each of them one by one.Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ)QQQ tracks the Nasdaq 100 index. It's been around for more than 20 years and consists of 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange.Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) ProfileI won't spend any more time talking about the tech-heavy nature of QQQ because most are familiar with it already, but the one thing worth noting for the purpose of this comparison is its expense ratio. At 0.20%, it's relatively inexpensive, but not nearly as cheap as many of the broad market ETFs from the likes of Vanguard and BlackRock, which often have expense ratios of 0.05% or less.Keep that in mind as we take a look at the next ETF on the list.Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM)QQQM also tracks the Nasdaq 100 index.Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (QQQM) ProfileIf you just did a double-take reading that last sentence, yes, you're reading it correctly. Invesco operates TWO ETFs that both track the Nasdaq 100. There's no gimmicks, no frills, no hidden fine print. Just two Nasdaq 100 ETFs.So, what's the difference between QQQ and QQQM exactly? The answer is the expense ratio. QQQ charges 0.20% and QQQM charges 0.15%.You may be asking yourself: if Invesco wanted to charge 0.15% for an ETF that tracks the Nasdaq 100, why didn't it just lower the expense ratio on QQQ? It's a good question and the answer, quite simply, is money. Just 0.05%, the difference between the two expense ratios, on a $150 billion asset base is about $75 million in revenue annually. Invesco may not come right out and say it, but why in the world would they give up that kind of revenue when it's already the 5th largest ETF around even with the higher expense ratio?Launching QQQM with a lower expense ratio gives investors the opportunity to achieve the same exposure with a lower cost.If QQQM is available for cheaper than QQQ, does that make QQQ irrelevant? Not exactly.The answer to the question of which ETF you should choose comes down to a couple of things. First, while the expense ratio of QQQM is lower, you have to consider the total cost of ownership. By that, I mean you have to look at the expense ratio as well as the spread. The spread is essentially a measure of liquidity and is the cost of trading shares. Generally speaking, the larger a fund is and the more people it has trading shares, the lower the spread.QQQM has more than $4 billion in assets, which represents strong and consistent growth of assets over time, but QQQ has more than $150 billion. Not surprisingly, its trading costs are lower, but only by a hair.QQQ vs. QQQM vs. QQQJ Trading SpreadsThe \"average spread\" column is the one we want to look at. The spread on QQQ is virtually nothing because it's so large. QQQM's spread, while larger, is still just 2 basis points. It's not nothing, but it's still a very small number. When tallied together, the total cost of ownership for QQQM is 0.17% (the 0.15% expense ratio plus the 0.02% spread) vs. 0.21% for QQQ.From a total cost of ownership perspective, QQQM edges out QQQ.That doesn't mean QQQ can't still be useful. If you're trading a very large block of shares, the liquidity of QQQ could make it the better choice, but you'd be talking a huge block of shares. For most retail investors, it will be a non-issue. If you're a long-term buy-and-hold investor, QQQM holds a slight advantage over QQQ.QQQJ, however, is a whole different story.Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ)QQQJ tracks the Nasdaq Next Generation 100 index. It also eliminates financial stocks from consideration and targets the next 100 companies that would potentially be eligible for inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 if they manage to grow large enough.Invesco Nasdaq Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ) ProfileThe idea behind buying QQQJ would involve the same logic for why you'd be buying small-caps. You want to get ahead of the curve by buying them before they become large-caps.History shows that about 1/3 of Next Gen 100 members do indeed go on to become eventual members of the Nasdaq 100. These components have historically delivered higher revenue growth, higher dividend growth rates and greater commitments to R&D spending that those of the Nasdaq 100, according to Invesco research.Obviously, there's no overlap between QQQ and QQQJ, but investors should know that they're getting substantially similar sector exposure (with one notable exception, which I'll get into in a moment). Because QQQJ is less than 2 years old, we don't have a lot of history to go off of, but shorter-term volatility measures suggest that the fund is about 20% more volatile than QQQ.QQQ vs. QQQJ Asset AllocationBoth ETFs come in with a heavy tech and growth tilt, but QQQJ finds a lot of bubbling under stocks in the healthcare sector.As mentioned earlier, there is very little in the Nasdaq 100 that falls outside of one of the big three growth sectors.QQQ Asset AllocationThose three sectors are well-represented in QQQJ as well, but it triples the exposure of healthcare to roughly 20% of the fund's overall allocation compared to just over 6% in QQQ.QQQJ Asset AllocationOutside of an 9% weighting to industrials, there's virtually nothing outside of the top 5 sectors. The success of QQQJ will be heavily dependent on growth stocks continuing to perform well, but the sizable allocation to healthcare gives it a bit of a different profile.ConclusionSo, what are our investment choices overall?QQQJ is obviously a different product than the other two, so we can consider that separately. It's more of a classic mid-cap growth ETF with a heavy tech tilt, so this would be appropriate for anyone looking to augment existing tech exposure in their portfolios or someone looking to add a punch of growth to more conservative portfolio. The success of the Next Gen 100 stocks has been proven over time and it's a nice way to be invested in the emerging up-and-comers.QQQ vs. QQQM is a little more nuanced and the choice of which is better really depends on what you're going to use it for.QQQ vs. QQQM vs. QQQJ Expense RatiosIf you're a short-term trader and someone looking for a lot of liquidity in the market, QQQ is probably the better choice. If you're going to be in and out relatively quickly, it's better to go with the ETF with virtually no trading costs instead of taking a chance that you get hit with a higher spread.Longer-term investors would probably benefit from QQQM. Since then, cooler heads have prevailed, and Palantir’s shares have returned to a far more reasonable price. Even so, PLTR stock is hardly a slam-dunk buy. Here are the catalysts that have driven Palantir’s recent growth, and its outlook following its disappointing earnings report yesterday.Palantir’s Core Value PropositionOriginally, Palantir emphasized security and counterterrorism functions. The company built a reputation as the AI provider for spy agencies and the Department of Defense. It grew rapidly in the wake of 9/11 as intelligence agencies beefed up their cybersecurity capabilities in an effort to prevent other such atrocities. And Palantir is still benefiting to a certain extent from Washington’s emphasis on cybersecurity.However, the company is much more than that now, as Palantir used its crime-fighting capabilities to pivot to combating fraud and money laundering in the banking system. Then it began working for commercial enterprises also.Nowadays Palantir seeks to assist companies in a wide range of industries with analyzing complex data. Palantir isn’t just a data-mining firm; it helps human analysts in general. More specifically, if people are working to solve a certain problem, Palantir can sort through millions of columns of data and identify patterns and tendencies that a human analyst might want to further investigate.Palantir has recently put its platform to work in the health care industry, as it has improved governments’ responses to Covid-19. The company’s ability to scan through reams of data and highlight interesting patterns is invaluable. Subsequently, doctors and biologists can analyze and investigate Palantir’s findings more fully.In other words, the company has an interesting hybrid model that pairs AI with human expertise. It contrasts starkly with, for example,IBM’s(NYSE:IBM) Watson AI system, which is almost entirely reliant on machine learning. While Watson is great at winning chess matches and game shows, it has been less successful as a tool for companies than Palantir’s model so far.Palantir Faces More Competition in the Private SectorPalantir has established a strong niche supporting governments’ defense, intelligence, and anti-crime efforts. However, Palantir is now also helping businesses in a variety of areas, such as health care and supply chain management.In these fields, Palantir faces more intense competition from other firms that have been ramping up their AI capabilities to address these problems. Investors should not expect Palantir’s private-sector business to grow as quickly as its government operations did.In addition, Palantir doesn’t quite have the defense sector to itself, either. For example,C3.ai(NYSE:AI) recently announced a $500 million contract with the Department of Defense, validating that firm’s expansion from its core industrial AI market into other fields, such as security. Despite this huge contract, AI stock is down about 85% from its 52-week highs, and the cash on its balance sheet is now equal to 40% of its market capitalization. And that brings me to the next point.Palantir’s Valuation Is Still a Major IssuePalantir’s shares certainly aren’t as expensive as they were a few months ago. Still, now trading around $12, Palantir has a market capitalization of more than $24 billion. Don’t let the low share price fool you; the valuation of PLTR stock is still high.The company’s 2021 revenue came in at about $2 billion, meaning that the shares are changing hands for 12 times its 2021 sales. Excluding certain items, most notably its large amount of stock-based compensation, the company has reached profitability and cash flow positive status.But Palantir is not very profitable, even with those exclusions. In particular, its Q4 adjusted earnings per share of 2 cents was well short of analysts’ average outlook. And the company’s forward guidance was not very impressive either. So investors are paying a rather high price for Palantir, even now, especially compared to its more beaten up rivals in the software-as-a-service space.The Verdict on PLTR StockSome traders had been hoping that Palantir’s Q4 earnings would be a turning point for it. However, it appears that won’t be the case, as its shares tumbled over 15% yesterday in the wake of its results.Palantir continues to report solid revenue growth, but it will need to improve its profitability and cash flows to really draw long-term investors back into the name.Palantir is still trading at a lofty valuation, probably due to its connections with intelligence agencies and its former status as a meme stock. Here are the catalysts that have driven Palantir’s recent growth, and its outlook following its disappointing earnings report yesterday.Palantir’s Core Value PropositionOriginally, Palantir emphasized security and counterterrorism functions. The company built a reputation as the AI provider for spy agencies and the Department of Defense. It grew rapidly in the wake of 9/11 as intelligence agencies beefed up their cybersecurity capabilities in an effort to prevent other such atrocities. And Palantir is still benefiting to a certain extent from Washington’s emphasis on cybersecurity.However, the company is much more than that now, as Palantir used its crime-fighting capabilities to pivot to combating fraud and money laundering in the banking system. Then it began working for commercial enterprises also.Nowadays Palantir seeks to assist companies in a wide range of industries with analyzing complex data. Palantir isn’t just a data-mining firm; it helps human analysts in general. More specifically, if people are working to solve a certain problem, Palantir can sort through millions of columns of data and identify patterns and tendencies that a human analyst might want to further investigate.Palantir has recently put its platform to work in the health care industry, as it has improved governments’ responses to Covid-19. The company’s ability to scan through reams of data and highlight interesting patterns is invaluable. Subsequently, doctors and biologists can analyze and investigate Palantir’s findings more fully.In other words, the company has an interesting hybrid model that pairs AI with human expertise. It contrasts starkly with, for example,IBM’s(NYSE:IBM) Watson AI system, which is almost entirely reliant on machine learning. While Watson is great at winning chess matches and game shows, it has been less successful as a tool for companies than Palantir’s model so far.Palantir Faces More Competition in the Private SectorPalantir has established a strong niche supporting governments’ defense, intelligence, and anti-crime efforts. However, Palantir is now also helping businesses in a variety of areas, such as health care and supply chain management.In these fields, Palantir faces more intense competition from other firms that have been ramping up their AI capabilities to address these problems. Investors should not expect Palantir’s private-sector business to grow as quickly as its government operations did.In addition, Palantir doesn’t quite have the defense sector to itself, either. For example,C3.ai(NYSE:AI) recently announced a $500 million contract with the Department of Defense, validating that firm’s expansion from its core industrial AI market into other fields, such as security. Despite this huge contract, AI stock is down about 85% from its 52-week highs, and the cash on its balance sheet is now equal to 40% of its market capitalization. And that brings me to the next point.Palantir’s Valuation Is Still a Major IssuePalantir’s shares certainly aren’t as expensive as they were a few months ago. Still, now trading around $12, Palantir has a market capitalization of more than $24 billion. Don’t let the low share price fool you; the valuation of PLTR stock is still high.The company’s 2021 revenue came in at about $2 billion, meaning that the shares are changing hands for 12 times its 2021 sales. Excluding certain items, most notably its large amount of stock-based compensation, the company has reached profitability and cash flow positive status.But Palantir is not very profitable, even with those exclusions. In particular, its Q4 adjusted earnings per share of 2 cents was well short of analysts’ average outlook. And the company’s forward guidance was not very impressive either. So investors are paying a rather high price for Palantir, even now, especially compared to its more beaten up rivals in the software-as-a-service space.The Verdict on PLTR StockSome traders had been hoping that Palantir’s Q4 earnings would be a turning point for it. However, it appears that won’t be the case, as its shares tumbled over 15% yesterday in the wake of its results.Palantir continues to report solid revenue growth, but it will need to improve its profitability and cash flows to really draw long-term investors back into the name.Palantir is still trading at a lofty valuation, probably due to its connections with intelligence agencies and its former status as a meme stock. The question Tesla investors need to ask themselves is: If Tesla isn't profitable now, when there's little to no competition in electric vehicles in the United States, what's going to happen when a deluge of competition fromtraditional automakersarrives?</p>\n<p>A ton of competition is coming</p>\n<p>Tesla's brand has a cult following, so some people will be buying Tesla vehicles regardless of the other options available. But that's not likely to be the case for most people.</p>\n<p>The number of electric vehicles available for purchase in the U.S. is set to explode in the coming years.<b>General Motors</b>(NYSE:GM)is planning to launch 30 EVs globally by 2025, with two-thirds set to be sold in North America. The company is aiming to sell 1 million EVs annually in North America by 2025.</p>\n<p>Those models include electric versions of the company's GMC Hummer and Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Tesla has a loyal customer base, but so does GM. Someone who's been a GM truck buyer for years is likely to stick with GM when they decide to switch to an electric vehicle.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c651279799dfdf96552379a7b5d448a9\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"></p>\n<p>IMAGE SOURCE: GM.</p>\n<p><b>Ford</b>(NYSE:F)is also pouring resources into electric vehicles, allocating $29 billion for electric and autonomous vehicles through 2025. The company's plans include anelectric version of its F-150 pickup truck, which should hit the production lines by mid-2022. Given GM's and Ford's plans, it will not be easy for Tesla to steal away market share in the lucrative pickup-truck segment.</p>\n<p>Other car companies have big plans, as well.<b>Volkswagen</b>(OTC:VWAGY)already sells over 200,000 EVs annually andexpects that number to double this year. The company is aiming to sell roughly 2 million EVs annually by 2025 and expects to launch 70 EV models by 2030.<b>Toyota</b>(NYSE:TM)willlaunch 15 new electric vehicles by 2025, some of which will be under the new Toyota bZ sub-brand. The list goes on.</p>\n<p>Not only will all these electric vehicles provide consumers with a bevy of options beyond Tesla, but they'll also deprive Tesla of its regulatory-credit income as other automakers churn out an increasing number of EVs.</p>\n<p>None of this is to say that Tesla can't be successful in a world where it faces more competition.
