Their labs rely on Illumina sequencing systems. Illumina is fighting those antitrust cases and says it will appeal any adverse initial rulings. In this week's earnings calls, Illumina discussed another growth initiative in which it is joining with drug developers to expand the use of sequencing in the discovery of new drugs. Psychiatric disorders arise from complex interactions of many genes in the brain, for example, and teasing out treatment targets will require genomic studies of large numbers of people -- and a reduced cost of sequencing that Illumina promises in its future products.Thursday, the company announced that it will work with the healthcare-focused investment firm Deerfield Management to use sequencing in Deerfield's start-up ventures. While Illumina could reap returns from any discovered drugs, deSouza says the real aim is to encourage the biotech industry to use more sequencing systems and consumables.Illumina bull Kyle Mikson, at Canaccord Genuity, came away from the sequencer's earnings results with renewed confidence in his Buy rating. The company's near term cautions about China's slowdowns moved Mikson to trim his price target to $520, from $555.\"[W]e believe core Illumina should continue to outperform expectations in 2022 and beyond,\" the analyst wrote in a note Friday.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"ILMN":1,"EXAS":0.9,"GH":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2363,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9066814422,"gmtCreate":1651885087366,"gmtModify":1676534989950,"author":{"id":"3572104522015648","authorId":"3572104522015648","name":"geno","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572104522015648","authorIdStr":"3572104522015648"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$S&P 500(.SPX)$boi","listText":"$S&P 500(.SPX)$boi","text":"$S&P 500(.SPX)$boi","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/20c1e282f56653a116bc86cd8c9aa12f","width":"1080","height":"1761"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9066814422","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":843,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9068440718,"gmtCreate":1651800816035,"gmtModify":1676534973656,"author":{"id":"3572104522015648","authorId":"3572104522015648","name":"geno","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572104522015648","authorIdStr":"3572104522015648"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Likey","listText":"Likey","text":"Likey","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9068440718","repostId":"1173211770","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1173211770","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1651800262,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1173211770?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-05-06 09:24","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Dear RIVN Stock Fans, Mark Your Calendars for May 9","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1173211770","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Shares ofRivian(NASDAQ:RIVN) are down more than 9% today as both theS&P 500andNasdaq 100are in the red. This comes after the Fed raised interest rates by 50 basis points (bps) yesterday, bringing the rate to between 0.75% and 1%. Indeed, the 50-bps raise was the largest increase in 22 years. Additionally, the Fed hinted at additional 50-bps raises in the coming months. On the bright side, the Fed did state that a 75-bps increase is not on the table.RIVN stock is classified as a long-duration asset, since the basis of the company’s value lies in future cash flows. During Q4, the electric vehicle (EV) company reported$54 million in revenue, while Rivian’s current market capitalization is around $28 billion. As of this writing, it has an exorbitant price-to-sales ratio of 442.When interest rates rise, the value of Rivian’s future cash flows when discounted to the present value decrease. This is because the weighted average cost of capital (WACC) in the discounted cash-flow model increases in correlation with the interest rate. The WACC is placed in the denominator of the model, while cash flows are placed in the numerator of the model.Shares of the EV company are down more than 65% year-to-date. However, there’s another catalyst on the horizon that may exacerbate Rivian’s decline this year.RIVN Stock: IPO Lockup Date Falls on May 9On May 9, early investors in Rivian will be able to sell their shares. May 9 marks 180 days after the company’s initial public offering (IPO) on Nov. 9 of last year. Indeed, 180 days after the IPO is the typical date in which early investors and insiders are eligible to sell their shares. As a result, roughly 800 million shares will be affected by the IPO lockup expiration. That doesn’t mean that all 800 million shares will be sold. However, key focus should be placed on Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) and Ford(NYSE:F), as both companies have significant stakes. Amazon owns almost 160 million shares, while Ford owns about 100 million shares.Still, there’s a silver lining attached to the IPO lockup expiration. Barron’s reports that short sellers often cover their positions following the expiration. Currently, Rivian has a short interest as a percentage of float of about 6%.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"RIVN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":834,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9068440931,"gmtCreate":1651800783423,"gmtModify":1676534973640,"author":{"id":"3572104522015648","authorId":"3572104522015648","name":"geno","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572104522015648","authorIdStr":"3572104522015648"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a That was thanks to components like home improvement stocks Lowe’s LOW, -0.30% and Home Depot HD, -0.33% alongside retailers like TJX TJX, -0.08%.
\n
Lately, however, performance has started to lag for many of these names. In fact, since April 1 we’ve seen these three stocks all drift slightly into the red even as the S&P 500 SPX, -0.11% has tacked on about 6% in the same period.
\n
And some fear that may only be the beginning. As one Wall Street insider said recently in a Bloomberg interview, a “huge unwind” is coming for stay-at-home stocks, including hardware stores and home-goods merchants.
\n
While some big-name “suburbia” trades are still relatively stable, signs of trouble are already emerging at the fringes. Century Communities CCS, -0.34% and Dream Finders Homes DFH, -2.55%, two mid-tier single family homebuilders, have seen shares crash by double digits over the last month. On the furnishings side, appliance giant Whirlpool Corporation WHR, -0.51% and department store Nordstrom JWN, +2.03% are down sharply from their spring highs.
\n
Here are five big reasons why:
\n
1. The upgrade cycle is over
\n
Last summer, white-collar workers who were stuck at home made note of overdue projects and took advantage of being able to easily meet with contractors. But in many ways, this growth is not sustainable.
\n
Consider the kind of purchases homeowners were making according to data from the NPD Group. Faucets, kitchen cabinets and even toilets were among the most popular products sold in 2020. Needless to say, even the most profligate homeowners aren’t going to follow this upgrade cycle of remodeling kitchens and bathrooms on an annual basis.
\n
The same is true for furniture and other home goods. Internet giant Comscore recorded the highest visitation to related websites in history in May 2020 with 133 million web surfers shopping for some kind of home goods. Once again, a new couch or lamp is not an annual purchase — so this trend seems unsustainable for much longer.
\n
2. Valuations are stretched
\n
Speaking of post-pandemic peaks for home-goods purveyors, we’ve seen the financials bear out these big increases via boosted profits and sales. However, we’ve also seen the stock of many related merchants surge even more — stretching their valuations from historical norms.
\n
Take TJX. Currently this discount retailer has a forward price-to-earnings ratio of more than 26, compared with a forward P/E of just 21 in spring 2020. Its trailing price-to-sales ratio is now 2.1 compared with 1.4.
\n
What’s more, valuations for previous darlings like TJX are out of line with peers, too. Consider the forward P/E of the overall S&P 500 index is 22 right now, and other similar names like Macy’s M, +0.70% and Big Lots BIG, -3.71% actually have forward P/E ratios well under 10. You can argue TJX is unique, of course… but you also may want to be aware of what “fair value” looks like for many other stocks outside fashionable stay-at-home trades right now.
\n
3. Delays and shortages
\n
Future growth from pandemic-fueled peaks in these stocks is not impossible, of course. But given supply chain disruptions it seems highly unlikely. There are a host of reasons for these delays, including overseas shipping delays as well as capacity and output crunches that are affecting many industries, but “stay at home” stocks seem particularly hard hit.
\n
Home improvement products are simply nowhere to be found, with roughly 94% of builders reporting “at least some serious shortages of appliances” according to the National Association of Home Builders. Another 93% are running short on framing lumber and 87% say it is hard to obtain windows and doors.
\n
Even if you can get past demand concerns, without the raw materials to get to work it’s very hard to see future growth in this category.
\n
4. Inflationary pressures
\n
For the people who haven’t already ponied up the cash for a contractor or made their peace with extended delays for their expensive new furniture, there is a pretty big disincentive right now for new shoppers: inflation.
\n
The cost of living as measured by the Consumer Price Index jumped 0.6% in May to run at a 5% annual rate. That was not only higher than expectations, but the fastest pace since the summer of 2008. The inflation risks were so pronounced that the Federal Reserve publicly stated it could move up the schedule for expected interest rate increases to keep the risks under wraps.
\n
Inflation isn’t always a death knell, of course. But it has historically eroded purchasing power and could curtail some of the spending in “stay at home” stocks that we’ve seen in the last year or so.
\n
5. Home-equity hubris
\n
Speaking of red-hot inflation: In May, the median price for U.S. homes topped $350,000 for the first time ever — up 23.6% from 2020. What’s more, a Realtor.com survey showed roughly a third of selling homeowners expect to get more than their asking price, and roughly the same amount expect an offer within a week of listing.
\n
Some of this is justifiable. Many articles have been written in recent years about the dearth of supply in attractive markets, and it’s important to acknowledge the remote work of the pandemic has indeed created some disruptive introspection into why people live where they do.
\n
But here’s where things get dicey: homeowners who have already spent the expected premium on their home’s price well in advance. According to Freddie Mac, about $152.7 billion in equity loans were taken out on U.S. houses last year, a massive increase of 41.7% from 2019 and the highest refinancing cash-out dollar amount since 2007.
\n
Anyone remember what happened to the real-estate market in 2007? Or the similar sense of seller entitlement from those days? There’s no clear signs of a bubble bursting just yet, but there’s real risk American homeowners may be overly optimistic about what their homes are worth — and a chance this home equity loan free-for-all simply isn’t sustainable for much longer.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
The ‘shelter in suburbia’ trade is about to reverse — and these stocks will suffer
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThe ‘shelter in suburbia’ trade is about to reverse — and these stocks will suffer\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-24 18:14 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
5 reasons the pandemic megatrend is over.\n\nOne of the biggest investment stories of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the boom in consumer discretionary stocks with a “shelter in suburbia” theme. Let's see how this hot tech trend could give Micron a nice boost in 2022 -- and in the long run -- and amplify the company's growth prospects.Image source: Getty Images. The metaverse can boost memory demandWall Street sees the metaverse creating the need for more storage. Lee Seung-woo of South Korea-based securities firm Eugene Investment & Securities in a note to investors said that \"memory chips constitute a core infrastructure of [the] metaverse.\" Jeff Kim, an analyst at South Korean investment bank KB Securities, also points out that memory demand would increase as companies building the metaverse spend money to upgrade data center servers. As it turns out, the metaverse would require more hyperscale data centers and edge data centers, as huge amounts of data will be shared between several end points in real-time. Imagine that you're in a virtual office inside the metaverse along with your colleagues. The data center will have to process the activities taking place inside that virtual office and deliver the same in real-time to all the users to ensure a seamless experience. This would create a massive load on the data centers that are currently geared to tackle meetings conducted through methods such as videoconferencing, where the users simply look at a screen to interact. Simply put, the metaverse needs accelerated computing to cater to the needs of this emerging tech trend, which would create the demand for more DRAM (dynamic random-access memory). That's because DRAM plays a critical role in enabling high-performance computing (HPC) as it reduces latency and allows the server processors to quickly access the data flowing into the data center. DRAM will help improve the computing power of data centers as well as the deployment of metaverse applications. As a result, don't be surprised to see the DRAM market grow at a faster pace than what analysts are currently estimating right now. According to third-party estimates, the global DRAM market could generate $173 billion in revenue by 2026, as compared to $105 billion in 2020, indicating that Micron is sitting on a secular growth opportunity. Why Micron Technology is a top metaverse stock to buy right nowMicron Technology has been delivering outstanding results consistently thanks to this healthy memory demand and pricing environment.MU data by YChartsThings are about to get better for Micron on account of the memory boom, and the metaverse is going to add to the company's existing growth drivers. Not surprisingly, analysts are upbeat about Micron's future. Estimates compiled by Yahoo! Finance project that Micron's revenue could grow at a faster pace of 20% in the next fiscal year, as compared to the current fiscal 2022's estimated growth of 16%.The bottom-line forecasts also paint a rosy picture, with fiscal 2022 earnings expected to increase 47% over last year, while fiscal 2023 earnings are expected to jump nearly 30%. It is also worth noting that 23 of the 30 analysts covering Micron stock have raised their fiscal 2022 earnings estimates over the past month, while 23 of the 29 analysts covering the stock for fiscal 2023 have made a similar move. What's more, the company's long-term earnings growth forecast is also quite robust, at 23.8%. Given Micron's impressive growth so far and its bright prospects, buying this tech stock looks like a no-brainer, as it is trading at just 16 times trailing earnings and 9 times forward earnings. This makes it cheaper than the S&P 500, which has an earnings multiple of 28.8.Throw in a potential catalyst such as the metaverse, and investors looking to buy a dirt-cheap growth stock have more reasons to load up on shares of Micron Technology.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BOTB.UK":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":616,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9018145355,"gmtCreate":1649005987398,"gmtModify":1676534434577,"author":{"id":"3572104522015648","authorId":"3572104522015648","name":"geno","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3572104522015648","idStr":"3572104522015648"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Sike","listText":"Sike","text":"Sike","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9018145355","repostId":"2224324049","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2224324049","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1648948730,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2224324049?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-03 09:18","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Monster Warren Buffett Stock-Split Stocks to Buy Right Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2224324049","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These Buffett-backed stocks could elevate your portfolio.","content":"
\n
Warren Buffett has said that he will never split Berkshire Hathaway stock. With the company's Class A shares recently hitting a record high and trading at roughly $527,400 each, that might come as something of a surprise. However, the Oracle of Omaha has said that he doesn't see any reason to pursue stock splits because they don't boost intrinsic value, and Berkshire's Class B shares are already available at a much smaller price. On the other hand, it's undeniable that prominent companies have seen significant stock-price gains after announcing and completing stock splits in recent years. With that in mind, a panel of Motley Fool contributors has identified three stocks in the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio worth buying that are either on track to split in the near future or stand out as a potential split candidate.Read on to see why they think that buying Amazon, RH, and Chevron right now would be a smart move.Image source: Getty Images. This tech leader will keep dominatingKeith Noonan (Amazon): With Amazon's stock having skyrocketed roughly 22,000% over the last 20 years, its current price of more than $3,250 per share might look a bit unwieldy. That's not to say the stock looks unfairly valued. The company's growth engines continue to look incredibly strong, and its forward price-to-earnings (P/E) and forward price-to-sales (P/S) ratios remain not far removed from the lowest levels in the company's history. However, the 20-for-1 stock split that the tech giant will likely carry out in June could have the effect of making the shares much more attractive for retail investors. While many brokerages now allow the purchase of fractional shares, there does some to be a significant psychological appeal created by splitting stocks down to more manageable prices. There's just something about owning a full share that's more attractive than owning a small piece of a share, even if the actual value of that holding is exactly the same.As Buffett has implied, Amazon's upcoming stock split won't do anything to directly boost the intrinsic value of the company. However, there could be some indirect benefits that wind up working to the company's advantage.Despite Amazon's incredible performance over the last two decades, the stock's gain of roughly 6% over the last year has lagged behind gains for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indexes. If a stock split helps give the company's share price a shot in the arm, that could help to keep employees who are paid with stock happy.Should you buy Amazon because of its stock split? It's not the kind of thing that even approaches being central to my buy thesis when the tech giant's leadership in e-commerce and cloud services and incredible penchant for innovation are so front and center. However, it also wouldn't be shocking to see the move create some more excitement for what remains an incredibly exciting company.Glitz and glamourDaniel Foelber (RH): Warren Buffett has always had a soft spot for retail businesses from his days of working in the Buffett & Son family grocery store as a kid in Omaha, Nebraska. But the upscale nature of RH, formerly known as Restoration Hardware, is nothing like a folksy local shop.RH is glamorous and wild. Every store uniquely incorporates architectural features that fit its surroundings. The company has been recognized for its design and showmanship. It even has a yacht business. The RH3 luxury yacht will soon be available to charter in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. And RH1 and RH2 are not yachts, by the way, they are private jets that can also be chartered.RH has stores that also serve as restaurants and wine bars. Simply put, it is trying to be a brand that is almost nothing like Buffett's humble lifestyle. So why would he be interested in such a glamorous business? Well, that probably comes down to valuation.RH sales and net income have grown at meteoric rates over the past few years.RH revenue (annual). Data by YCharts.Pair that growth with an over 55% drawdown in the stock price, and you have a value stock that looks inexpensive. In fact, RH now has a P/E ratio of just 14.5.On March 29, RH issued a press release announcing its goal to execute a 3-for-1 stock split:The Company believes that a stock split is appropriate in view of the substantial appreciation that has occurred in the share price since the 2012 initial public offering. Although a stock split does not change the value of the Company, we believe that a split should have a number of benefits, including the recruitment and retention of talent. The stock split is expected to be executed in the spring.RH is a bold business that has no problem taking risks and spending money to grow its brand. Its results speak for themselves. A retail store, a wine company, and a yacht and private-jet business might sound unconventional, but it's working.Time to adjust for the unexpectedJames Brumley (Chevron): I know it's not a name many people have suggested for a prospective stock split lately. But I have a feeling that oil giant Chevron might be close to making such a move.Like most energy stocks, Chevron's shares pretty much fell off the radar in the wake of oil's 2015 meltdown. They stayed off the radar until late last year, too, when demand for oil suddenly recovered but the supply didn't. Along with the strongest crude prices we've seen in years, Chevron shares have rallied more than 40% just since November, reaching record highs. The backdrop of geopolitical tensions also leads me to think oil prices are going to remain lofty for the indefinite future. The thing is, it's all just happened so fast -- faster than even Chevron and its peers could have anticipated. Those who know the company's history might recall it does a pretty good job of splitting its stock as needed to keep its price and trading manageable for the average investor. It hasn't felt like it needed to since 2004, as shares have been rather tame the bulk of the time since then. With the extreme price appreciation we've seen over just the past five months, though, it's arguable this one's overdue for a price adjustment that will make the stock a little less intimidating.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMZN":0.9,"RH":0.9,"CVX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":495,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9004887787,"gmtCreate":1642555284417,"gmtModify":1676533722327,"author":{"id":"3572104522015648","authorId":"3572104522015648","name":"geno","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3572104522015648","idStr":"3572104522015648"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh no ","listText":"Oh no ","text":"Oh no","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9004887787","repostId":"2204408493","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2204408493","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1642541163,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2204408493?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-19 05:26","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US STOCKS-Wall St Sinks as Yields Spike, Financials Fall after Goldman Miss","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2204408493","media":"Reuters","summary":"* Nasdaq ends down 9.7% from Nov 19 record close* Goldman shares tumble as profit hit by weaker trad","content":"

* Nasdaq ends down 9.7% from Nov 19 record close

* Goldman shares tumble as profit hit by weaker trading

* Benchmark U.S. Treasury yields jump to two-year highs

* Activision soars on $68.7 billion Microsoft deal

* Indexes down: Dow 1.51%, S&P 1.84%, Nasdaq 2.6%

By Lewis Krauskopf, Bansari Mayur Kamdar and Shreyashi Sanyal

Jan 18 (Reuters) - Wall Street's main indexes fell sharply on Tuesday as weak results from Goldman Sachs weighed on financial stocks and tech shares continued their sell-off to start the year as U.S. Treasury yields rose to milestones.

The Nasdaq dropped most among major indexes on Tuesday and now has fallen about 9.7% from its Nov. 19 record closing high, close to confirming a 10% correction for the first time since early 2021.
