$Apple(AAPL)$ Apple and Meta announced a collaboration that will let developers run Meta's large Muse Spark Open model locally on high-end Mac computers, marking an unusual alliance between the two longtime rivals. The partnership centers on Muse Spark Open, an 816-billion-parameter open-weight model built on a mixture-of-experts architecture. Developers can download the model's weights and run it on pairs of two to four Mac Studio machines equipped with Apple's M5 Ultra chips and high amounts of unified memory. The setup is aimed at coding, video analysis, and other agentic tasks, with Apple optimizing performance through its MLX framework for distributed inference across machines. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Muse Spark Open weights are releasing today and that it runs great on new Mac Studios thanks to the work with Apple. Apple CEO John Ternus responded by congratulating the team and noting it's impressive to run a model of this caliber and scale this efficiently right from your desk, adding that Mac Studio keeps pushing the boundaries of on-device AI.
