$Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$ AMD's acquisition of World Labs looks like a move to expand its AI software, modeling, and simulation capabilities. The AI market is moving fast enough that system-level knowledge now goes well beyond traditional semiconductor expertise. World Labs engineers could accelerate system-level AI platform development and open up new markets like robotics. The $8.2B all-stock deal seems like a pull-in of R&D spending that would have been needed anyway to build this technology in-house. Management's aggressive approach to expanding AI capabilities is impressive.
