companies in the consumer discretionary space. Thus necessitating a discussion about stocks to sell. Keep in mind that this narrative doesn’t center on hating or bashing affected enterprises. Rather, investors just need to appreciate certain realities.It also doesn’t mean that you should dump all your holdings on the identified stocks to sell, particularly if you have good reason to believe in their viability. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t get it right all the time. However, unfavorable economic factors relating to consumer sentiment make certain enterprises riskier than others. Plus, any good investor seeking long-term success will need to reevaluate their position from time to time. Perhaps now would be a time to consider challenged stocks to sell.Stocks to Sell: Nordstrom (JWN)On paper, Nordstrom(NYSE: JWN) doesn’t immediately strike investors as one of the stocks to sell. For instance, investment resource Gurufocus.com labels shares modestly undervalued based on its proprietary calculations for fair market value (FMV). Objectively, the market prices JWN at a forward multiple of 11.89. As a discount to earnings, Nordstrom ranks better than 67.31% of the industry.So, what gives? Fundamentally, if consumer sentiment continues to stay deflated against historical norms, Nordstrom may be in trouble. Let’s face it – people don’t necessarily need the products the luxury department store sells. Rather, they want it. However, people also want to put food on the table and they definitely need that. Therefore, JWN could be one of the stocks to sell if consumers limit their spending. Also, Wall Street analysts don’t have a great view of JWN, pegging it a consensus hold. In addition, their average price target sits at $18.14, implying a nearly 17% downside.Stocks to Sell: Dillard’s (DDS)As with rival Nordstrom, Dillard’s(NYSE: DDS) might not immediately seem like one of the stocks to sell. For one thing, the market prices shares at a trailing multiple of 8 times. As a discount to earnings, Dillard’s ranks better than 82% of its peers. Also, the company features a rock-solid balance sheet. Combined with operational strengths (robust revenue growth, outstanding profit margins), DDS could swing higher.At the same time, Dillard’s faces the same fundamental challenge as Nordstrom: people don’t necessarily need the products Dillard’s offers. To be fair, DDS represents a stunner of a chart performer, gaining 28% since the January opener. In the trailing year, it’s up 67%. However, if headwinds such as mass layoffs impact consumer sentiment, DDS could come down in a hurry.Also, JPMorgan Chase’s Matthew Boss isn’t a fan of DDS, rating it a “hold” recently. Also, the analyst targets shares dropping to $345, implying greater than 15% downside risk. To be sure, positive hedge fund sentiment for DDS contradicts Boss’ pessimism. Again, though, it’s all about what the consumer will bear.Stocks to Sell: Swatch (SWGAY)A Swiss manufacturer of watches and jewelry, Swatch(OTCMKTS: SWGAY) commands significant marquee value in the global consumer discretionary space. While the company carries the modest brand name of low-cost watches, it also commands an enviable portfolio. Global brands like Tissot, Longines, Blancpain, and Omega – and many, many others – sit beneath the Swatch umbrella.Not too long ago, the parent company made the decision to manufacture the Moonswatch collection, combining the Omega Speedmaster model name with Swatch’s modest quality and pricing. In other words, customers can get a “Speedy” for hundreds of dollars instead of thousands of dollars. While I can’t speak for all horologists, I think this represents a distasteful example of brand dilution. You’re never going to see Rolex manufacture a cheap Daytona or Submariner for the masses. No, you want a Rolex, you better earn a Rolex. Unfortunately, Swatch’s misguided decision may impugn the Omega brand.Also, note that Swatch only beat its earnings per share and revenue estimates half of the time during the past 12 months. If consumer sentiment takes a hit, SWGAY may be one of the stocks to sell.RH (RH)A manufacturer of upscale home furnishings, RH(NYSE: RH) represents a premium player in the consumer discretionary space. As with the top two names, RH doesn’t immediately strike investors as one of the stocks to sell. For example, the market prices RH at a trailing multiple of 12.05. As a discount to earnings, RH ranks better than 62.2% of its peers. Also, the company enjoys operational strengths relative to its industry.Admittedly, then, a danger exists in considering RH as one of the stocks to sell. That’s especially true if you’re looking to short (I probably wouldn’t do that though). However, the Fed’s monetary tightening campaign spiked benchmark interest rates. In turn, this hurt housing market sentiment due to additional affordability constraints associated with higher borrowing costs. By logical deduction, consumers may not be gung-ho about furniture, especially premium furniture.To be fair, RH carries a consensus view of moderate buy. However, it’s a very split opinion: eight buys, eight holds, and one sell. If the Fed continues to hike rates – something that might happen due to a strong overall labor market – then RH may face headwinds.Vroom (VRM)Fundamentally, I shouldn’t receive too much flak for identifying Vroom(NASDAQ: VRM) as possibly one of the stocks to sell. As a used-car retailer specializing in online car deliveries, it basically competes with Carvana(NYSE: CVNA). Of course, the problem with that is simply Carvana’s business looks like a word I can’t say here. On a year-to-date basis, VRM hemorrhaged nearly 83% of equity value. On the flip side, CVNA fell a staggering 91% exactly. Frankly, we’re not dealing with a full deck here.Nevertheless, I don’t consider every name in the automotive sector as stocks to sell. Far from it; I mentioned many times that the average age of vehicles on U.S. roadways hit a record 12.2 years. Therefore, people will need to replace their cars eventually. So, car demand isn’t the issue. Rather, the challenge for Vroom is that it imposes a service premium that simply doesn’t exist for brick-and-mortar used-car dealerships. Therefore, VRM just screams stocks to sell.Starbucks (SBUX)As with many other stocks to sell on this list, Starbucks(NASDAQ: SBUX) doesn’t immediately strike investors as a particularly bearish entity. Sure, SBUX trades at a forward multiple of 31.62, which rates as overvalued relative to the industry. However, it features a three-year revenue growth rate of 9% and a net margin of 10%. Both stats ping in the upper echelon of the underlying sector.So, why even bother listing SBUX as one of the stocks to sell? Early last year, Starbucks hiked prices, naturally blaming inflation. To be sure, it didn’t negatively impact sentiment as the prior operational stats suggest. If anything, people continued to pile into its stores.I’ve got to be honest, Starbucks carries such high customer loyalty that this could go either way. However, if we’re talking about consumers tightening their belts, then Starbucks faces risks. After all, with the combination of elevated inflation and rising layoffs, something’s got to give.Ruth’s Hospitality (RUTH)On the last name for this list of stocks to sell, we have Ruth’s Hospitality(NASDAQ: RUTH). Again, on paper, Ruth’s doesn’t appear a candidate for a bearish take. First off, the market prices RUTH at a trailing multiple of 15. As a discount to earnings, Ruth’s ranks better than over 78% of the competition. As well, it features a net margin of 8.1%, outpacing 81.58% of its rivals.Nevertheless, if we’re talking about rising consumer pressures, then Ruth’s presents serious concerns. Namely, the company stands at the top of the trade-down effect. As a premium operator of fine-dining establishments (Ruth’s Chris Steak House), it’s easy to trade down to a cheaper alternative. For instance, you might opt for a more reasonable experience at Red Lobster. Now, Ruth has been a strong performer in terms of growth, I’ve got to be clear about that. However, if consumer pressures continue to build, it’s going to be extremely difficult to justify Ruth’s. Through Thursday trading, they rose 14.8%, 27.4%, and 20%, respectively.Big bounces can happen when your stock has been beaten down and is heavily shorted, as these three were. Even after this week's gains, AMC Entertainment is down 25% over the past year, with 18.4% of its stock sold short as of July 15. SmileDirectClub is down 74%, with 21% of its shares sold short. Meanwhile, fuboTV is down 87%, with nearly 30% of shares sold short.Two kinds of catalysts likely fueled this week's rally. Positive macroeconomic news may have caused shorts to cover, while drawing in retail investors to speculate in more risky names. Additionally, company-specific developments for all three companies may have fueled above-average gains.So whatOn the macroeconomic front, Wednesday's Consumer Price Index (CPI) report showed lower-than-feared inflation for the month of July. Many took the numbers as a sign that the post-pandemic inflation fever may be breaking. After all, this was the first monthly report in a long time that showed no month-over-month inflation.When fears of inflation recede, stocks go up -- but economically sensitive, beaten-down, and riskier stocks usually go up by much more. That includes meme stocks like these three.Marketwide factors aside, all three companies recently reported earnings: SmileDirectClub reported this week, and fuboTV and AMC did so last week.Did they report good numbers? No. In fact, all three stocks missed analyst revenue estimates. And all three showed operating losses, although AMC and Fubo did report better losses than anticipated.That doesn't really seem like a recipe for big stock gains. However, market sentiment is now focused on what could go right, and each company did announce some interesting new business developments.AMC Entertainment HoldingsOn its earning call last week, AMC announced it would issue current shareholders a special dividend consisting of one new preferred stock unit, which will trade under the ticker symbol \"APE\" and come with a non-fungible token (NFT).This is somewhat strange, considering it's not clear what value would be ascribed to the new preferred unit versus the common stock. Still, the preferred unit will begin trading on Aug. 22, so some may have been buying AMC this week in anticipation of the preferred stock dividend.Why create a new preferred stock class? Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be for a great reason. AMC management had promised its shareholders last year that it wouldn't issue any new shares and dilute the stock further, after a series of equity raises in 2020 and early 2021 to get through the pandemic.However, it looks as though AMC wants to raise more money, and can get around this constraint by issuing preferred shares, then raising more money by selling more of the preferred share class. It appears management is attempting to appease common stockholders by giving them preferred shares ahead of a possible capital raise -- although no one has any idea of the price at which AMC will issue the new preferred units, or how much common stockholders may ultimately be diluted.fuboTVMeanwhile, fuboTV had two big pieces of content-related news this week. In one, SportsGrid Network, the nation's first 24/7 streaming network dedicated to sports wagering, announced that it would launch on fuboTV. This came after Fubo's earnings report last week, in which the company announced it was putting its own sportsbook unit up for \"strategic review.\" However, it appears Fubo is still leaning into sports wagering, just not pursuing this costly endeavor itself.That bit of positive news followed Monday's announcement of a multiyear first-look deal for unscripted content from Ryan Reynolds' Maximum Effort production company. As part of the first-look deal, Fubo issued Maximum Effort $10 million worth of FuboTV common stock.The two deals seemed to generate optimism that Fubo could attract differentiated content to its platform, and its stock soared as a result.SmileDirectClubFinally, SmileDirectClub was the only of the three to report earnings this week, and investors had a roller-coaster ride. The company reported second-quarter results on Tuesday night, showing misses on both revenue and net losses per share, while also lowering its full-year guidance.The stock plunged on Wednesday, although that was the day of the CPI report, when the overall market soared. However, the stock then made a U-turn and surged nearly 25% on Thursday on no significant news. That was likely the result of a big short squeeze.The short squeeze could have been mere profit-taking by short-sellers. It could also have been a reaction to management's announcement of the new Smile Maker 3D scanning app, set to be unveiled in the fourth quarter or the first quarter of next year.The AI-powered smartphone app will allow prospective customers to scan their mouths, then receive a detailed treatment plan. Currently, those customers either have to visit an approved dentist or a Smile Direct retail store, or make an at-home imprint to begin the process. So the new app -- the result of years of development -- could greatly streamline the process and lower customer acquisition costs.Now whatThere is a bull case to be made for each of these stocks, but the path is narrow. AMC Entertainment investors need to believe that movie theaters will continue to improve their finances as the economy reopens, but that's pretty uncertain -- some might say unlikely -- in the age of streaming. The idea for a sports-focused online streaming bundle is gaining fuboTV subscribers off a small base, but it faces intense competition from larger, well-funded peers, such as Alphabet's YouTube TV. And SmileDirectClub is facing a difficult macroeconomic environment, as well as fierce legal resistance from state dental boards. More worrisome for AMC and SmileDirectClub, they each have problematic debt loads, which are huge risks in this rising interest-rate environment.So even with these eye-opening moves this week, That strongly indicates Intel's challenges are more internal than a reflection of all semiconductor stocks.Based on AMD's report investors are now wondering whether AMD will take a permanent lead over Intel or if there's still hope for an Intel comeback?AMD's earnings and IntelDespite the stock price dropping in next-day trading, AMD's Q2 earnings report actually indicated mostly good news. Revenue of $6.55 billion increased 70% year over year and beat consensus estimates of $6.53 billion. It also outperformed Intel, whose revenue dropped by 22% over the same period.Moreover, AMD's non-GAAP income of $1.71 billion, or $1.05 per share, exceeded estimates of $1.03 per share. But while non-GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) income increased 119% from 12 months ago, GAAP income fell 37% to $447 million. Considerable increases in research and development, and marketing, general, and administrative expenses weighed on GAAP earnings. Also, amortization of intangibles related to its acquisitions further reduced GAAP income.In Intel's defense, AMD confirmed sector-related weakness in PC sales and gaming. However, AMD reported an 83% revenue increase in data center revenue year over year. This stands in contrast to Intel's 16% revenue decline in its data center and artificial intelligence (AI) group for the same time frame.Additionally, AMD forecasts a 60% revenue increase for 2022. With Intel predicting an 11% revenue decline for 2022 at the midpoint, AMD appears poised to continue making gains on its longtime rival.The ongoing competitionWorse for Intel, AMD said on its Q2 2022 earnings call that it will begin selling 5-nanometer (nm) processors in Q2. Soon after Pat Gelsinger became Intel CEO in 2021, he set Intel a goal of catching up to its peers technologically by 2024 and achieving industry leadership in 2025. He reiterated that goal on the Q2 earnings call.However, Intel currently produces 10-nm chips and has not yet released its upcoming 7-nm chip. That places it far behind AMD, which has sold 7-nm chips since 2019. Given Intel's performance, it is little wonder Intel's stock is roughly flat over the last five years, while AMD stock logged massive gains.AMD data by YCharts.Still, Intel could recover eventually. The day it released its disappointing earnings report, the CHIPS Act passed Congress. With its numerous foundries in the U.S., Intel should gain a considerable subsidy from this legislation. The legislation will not directly help AMD as the company outsources all production to partner semiconductor fabrication plants (fabs) such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing or GlobalFoundries. Also, with Intel planning to enter the fab business through Intel Foundry Services, it will likely add an additional source of revenue.Still, fabs take years to build, and Intel's bid to catch up technologically is a three-to-five-year process. This means that Intel will likely remain behind AMD technologically for a long time to come, even if its ambitious plans succeed.AMD vs. IntelIntel's Q2 earnings report does not spell permanent doom, but the current earnings report indicates any comeback is a long way off, assuming it occurs at all. With AMD firing on all cylinders and Intel not yet showing results, AMD should lead this competition for the foreseeable future.Admittedly, Intel has steadily improved its technology, and entering the foundry business should eventually pay off for the chipmaker. But until Intel's plans begin to produce results, investors should consider staying with Through Thursday trading, they rose 14.8%, 27.4%, and 20%, respectively.Big bounces can happen when your stock has been beaten down and is heavily shorted, as these three were. Even after this week's gains, AMC Entertainment is down 25% over the past year, with 18.4% of its stock sold short as of July 15. SmileDirectClub is down 74%, with 21% of its shares sold short. Meanwhile, fuboTV is down 87%, with nearly 30% of shares sold short.Two kinds of catalysts likely fueled this week's rally. Positive macroeconomic news may have caused shorts to cover, while drawing in retail investors to speculate in more risky names. Additionally, company-specific developments for all three companies may have fueled above-average gains.So whatOn the macroeconomic front, Wednesday's Consumer Price Index (CPI) report showed lower-than-feared inflation for the month of July. Many took the numbers as a sign that the post-pandemic inflation fever may be breaking. After all, this was the first monthly report in a long time that showed no month-over-month inflation.When fears of inflation recede, stocks go up -- but economically sensitive, beaten-down, and riskier stocks usually go up by much more. That includes meme stocks like these three.Marketwide factors aside, all three companies recently reported earnings: SmileDirectClub reported this week, and fuboTV and AMC did so last week.Did they report good numbers? No. In fact, all three stocks missed analyst revenue estimates. And all three showed operating losses, although AMC and Fubo did report better losses than anticipated.That doesn't really seem like a recipe for big stock gains. However, market sentiment is now focused on what could go right, and each company did announce some interesting new business developments.AMC Entertainment HoldingsOn its earning call last week, AMC announced it would issue current shareholders a special dividend consisting of one new preferred stock unit, which will trade under the ticker symbol \"APE\" and come with a non-fungible token (NFT).This is somewhat strange, considering it's not clear what value would be ascribed to the new preferred unit versus the common stock. Still, the preferred unit will begin trading on Aug. 22, so some may have been buying AMC this week in anticipation of the preferred stock dividend.Why create a new preferred stock class? Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be for a great reason. AMC management had promised its shareholders last year that it wouldn't issue any new shares and dilute the stock further, after a series of equity raises in 2020 and early 2021 to get through the pandemic.However, it looks as though AMC wants to raise more money, and can get around this constraint by issuing preferred shares, then raising more money by selling more of the preferred share class. It appears management is attempting to appease common stockholders by giving them preferred shares ahead of a possible capital raise -- although no one has any idea of the price at which AMC will issue the new preferred units, or how much common stockholders may ultimately be diluted.fuboTVMeanwhile, fuboTV had two big pieces of content-related news this week. In one, SportsGrid Network, the nation's first 24/7 streaming network dedicated to sports wagering, announced that it would launch on fuboTV. This came after Fubo's earnings report last week, in which the company announced it was putting its own sportsbook unit up for \"strategic review.\" However, it appears Fubo is still leaning into sports wagering, just not pursuing this costly endeavor itself.That bit of positive news followed Monday's announcement of a multiyear first-look deal for unscripted content from Ryan Reynolds' Maximum Effort production company. As part of the first-look deal, Fubo issued Maximum Effort $10 million worth of FuboTV common stock.The two deals seemed to generate optimism that Fubo could attract differentiated content to its platform, and its stock soared as a result.SmileDirectClubFinally, SmileDirectClub was the only of the three to report earnings this week, and investors had a roller-coaster ride. The company reported second-quarter results on Tuesday night, showing misses on both revenue and net losses per share, while also lowering its full-year guidance.The stock plunged on Wednesday, although that was the day of the CPI report, when the overall market soared. However, the stock then made a U-turn and surged nearly 25% on Thursday on no significant news. That was likely the result of a big short squeeze.The short squeeze could have been mere profit-taking by short-sellers. It could also have been a reaction to management's announcement of the new Smile Maker 3D scanning app, set to be unveiled in the fourth quarter or the first quarter of next year.The AI-powered smartphone app will allow prospective customers to scan their mouths, then receive a detailed treatment plan. Currently, those customers either have to visit an approved dentist or a Smile Direct retail store, or make an at-home imprint to begin the process. So the new app -- the result of years of development -- could greatly streamline the process and lower customer acquisition costs.Now whatThere is a bull case to be made for each of these stocks, but the path is narrow. AMC Entertainment investors need to believe that movie theaters will continue to improve their finances as the economy reopens, but that's pretty uncertain -- some might say unlikely -- in the age of streaming. The idea for a sports-focused online streaming bundle is gaining fuboTV subscribers off a small base, but it faces intense competition from larger, well-funded peers, such as Alphabet's YouTube TV. And SmileDirectClub is facing a difficult macroeconomic environment, as well as fierce legal resistance from state dental boards. He co-founded the Quantum Fund with George Soros in 1973 — right in the middle of a devastating bear market. From then till 1980, the portfolio returned 4,200%, while the S&amp;P 500 rose 47%.</p><p>If you are looking for a safe haven, Rogers says “there is no such thing as safe” in the world of investments. Still, the multimillionaire points to two assets that could help you withstand the upcoming onslaught.</p><h2>Silver</h2><p>Precious metals are a go-to choice for investors in dark times, and Rogers is a long-time advocate.</p><p>“Silver is probably less dangerous than other things. Gold is probably less dangerous,” he says.</p><p>Gold and silver can’t be printed out of thin air like fiat money, so they can help investors hedge against inflation. At the same time, their prices tend to stay resilient in a crisis.</p><p>But that doesn’t mean they are crash-proof.</p><p>“I&#39;m not buying them now, because in a big collapse, everything goes down. But I probably will buy more silver when it goes down some more.”</p><p>Silver is widely used in the production of solar panels and is a critical component in many vehicles’ electrical control units. Rising industrial demand, in addition to its usefulness as a hedge, makes silver in particular a compelling asset for investors.</p><p>You can buy silver coins and bars directly at your local bullion shop. You can also invest in silver ETFs like the iShares Silver Trust (SLV).</p><p>Meanwhile, silver miners such as <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WPM\">Wheaton Precious Metals</a> (WPM), Pan American Silver (PAAS) and Coeur Mining (CDE) are also solidly positioned for a silver price boom.</p><h2>Agriculture</h2><p>You don’t need an MBA to see the appeal of agriculture in a bear market: No matter how big the next crash is, no one is crossing “food” out of their budget.</p><p>Rogers sees agriculture as a potential refuge in the upcoming collapse.</p><p>“Silver and agriculture are probably the least dangerous things in the next two or three years,” he says.</p><p>For a convenient way to get broad exposure to the agriculture sector, check out the Invesco DB Agriculture Fund (DBA). It tracks an index made up of futures contracts on some of the most widely traded agricultural commodities — including corn, soybeans and sugar. The fund is up 9% in 2022.</p><p>You can also use ETFs to tap into individual agricultural commodities. The <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WEAT\">Teucrium Wheat Fund</a> (WEAT) and the <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CORN\">Teucrium Corn Fund</a> (CORN) have gained 38% and 27%, respectively, in 2022.</p><p>Rogers also likes the idea of investing in farmland itself.</p><p>“Unless we’re going to stop wearing clothes and eating food, agriculture is going to get better. If you really, really love it, go out there and get yourself a farm and you’ll get very, very, very rich,” he told financial advisory firm Wealthion late last year.</p><p>Some real estate investment trusts specialize in owning farmland, such as Gladstone Land (LAND) and Farmland Partners (FPI).</p><p>Meanwhile, new investing services allow you to invest in farmland by taking a stake in a farm of your choice. Year to date, F stock is down 45% to $11.45 a share. This is after the Detroit automaker’s stock ran up more than 100% in 2021 to hit a 52-week high of $25.87.The decline in recent months has been mostly due toglobal supply chain issuesthat are impacting all automakers, and concerns that a global economic recession could lead consumers to put off big ticket purchases such as a new vehicle. However, these issues are temporary and shouldn’t get in the way of Ford’s long-term transition to electric vehicles.Already, Ford is rolling out electric versions of its most popular vehicles, the F-150 pick-up truck, that hastopped the North American sales chartsevery year since 1976, and its iconic Mustang muscle car. The electric F-150 truck already has more than 200,000 preorders. And it is just one of the electric vehicles Ford is set to release as the company aggressively moves tochallenge rival Tesla as the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer.To that end, Ford recently announced plans to invest $3.7 billion in its development of electric vehicles, which is on top of the $11.4 billion it had already committed. The money is expected to create more than 6,000 unionized manufacturing jobs in states such as Michigan, Ohio and Missouri. Ford is also in the process of building new battery manufacturing facilities in Tennessee and Kentucky. The money spent on Ford’s electric future should benefit shareholders over the long-term.American ExpressCredit card giant American Express has proven to be a reliable investment through good times and bad. In the past five years, AXP stock has gained approximately 75%, and risen 1,075% since the low point of the 2008-09 financial crisis. Yet, at its current share price of $141.95, American Express stock is only slightly above its 52-week low, making it as creaming buy for investors who have a long time horizon.At the start of this year, American Express stock was near $200, and most analysts see itclimbing back to that levelonce the current market downturn reverses. The lowest estimate on the stock is currently $146 a share, or nearly two bucks higher than where it’s currently trading.Like all financial companies, American Express’ earnings should be positively impacted as interest rates rise, enabling it to charge higher rates on the credit cards and other loan vehicles it issues.Wells Fargo recently named AXP stock a top pick, noting that “The shares are trading at 14 times our 2023 earnings estimate. [That’s] well below the 18 times we believe is warranted for this high return on equity business.”Additionally, American Express enjoys more affluent card members than rival credit card issuers, which Wells Fargo says brings with it lucrative partners in the form of hotels, airlines and various retailers.AmazonAmazon recentlysplit its stock on a 20-for-1 basis, bringing the price down to $123 a share from more than $2,000 previously. This gives investors an opportunity to own a piece of the world’s biggest e-commerce company on the cheap and benefit hugely when the stock inevitably recovers and rises again.Like virtually every company on this list, Amazon is struggling with issues that include wage inflation, supply chain snarls, and rising interest rates that are slowing consumer spending. But none of these problems is unique to Amazon and they will pass eventually. And coming out of the pandemic, Amazon is proving to be a stronger and more diversified company. Consider thate-commerce salesare forecast to exceed more than $1 trillion in the U.S. this year, and that Amazon controls 40% of the market.The company also continues to benefit from its Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing unit, which last year represented more than 70% of its operating income. Amazon currently holds a 33% share of the global cloud computing market, and growing.DisneyShares of the world’s biggest entertainment company are currently changing hands at $94.34 a share. The last time Disney stock was that low was immediately after theWorld Health Organization(WHO) declared Covid-19 a global pandemic and markets around the world crashed.Prior to that, you have to go back to early 2015 to find the last time shares of the Mouse House traded around $95. Disney stock is currentlydown 40% on the year, and 50% below its 52-week high of $187.58. The selloff has been partly due to broader market volatility and partly due to concerns that subscriber growth is slowing on the Disney+ streaming platform.However, the naysayers are neglecting to factor in the strong box office performances from several theatrically released Disney films in recent months. Pixar animated movieLightyearjust debuted in thenumber one spotat the global box office with a weekend haul of $85.6 million. That follows the$942.48 million total earnedby Marvel’sDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.Other highly anticipated movies are on their way to the big screen in coming months, includingThor: Love and ThunderandPinocchio. Plus, this summer marks the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic began that all Disney theme parks will be fully open with no capacity restrictions. Add in the company’s cruise ships and branded merchandise, and it’s easy to see that Disney is more than a streaming platform.FedExShares of shipping and logistics giant FedEx recently got a big boost after the company announced that it isboosting its quarterly dividend by 53%. That news immediately sent FDX stock up 14%, its biggest one-day gain since 1986. Yet despite the jump higher, Federal Express’ stock remains down 12% on the year at $227.43 a share.The company’s stock has been in investor jail since management warned that shipments are slowing coming out of the pandemic. But shareholders shouldn’t be overly concerned. Especially ones who can afford to be patient with the stock.The company is clearly making shareholders a priority. In addition to the massive dividend increase, which takes the quarterly payout to $1.15 a share, FedEx also announced that it is adding “total shareholder return” as a performance metric to its executive compensation program. This is on top of the$5 billion share repurchase programthe company announced last December.The renewed focus on shareholder returns comes as FedEx founder Fred Smithtransitions to the role of executive chairmanand is replaced as chief executive officer (CEO) by Raj Subramaniam. The leadership transition, coupled with the depressed price of FDX stock, presents a nice entry point for investors.Berkshire HathawayGiven the outsized influence Warren Buffett continues to exert on markets and investors, it is fitting to include his holding company, Berkshire Hathaway, on this list. Berkshire Hathaway’s Class B stock is down 10% year to date at $268.55 per share. That’s better than the 23% decline in the benchmark S&P 500 index. However, BRK.B stock is now25% below its 52-week highof $362.10 and only slightly above its 52-week low of $265.68 a share. This presents a great entry point for investors and an opportunity to own shares of one of the most successful companies in U.S. history.A holding company, Berkshire Hathaway owns many companies outright, ranging from railroads and insurers to the Dairy Queen fast food restaurant chain and Fruit of the Loom underwear maker.Berkshire also owns avast portfolio of stocksthat includes many of the names on this list, such as Apple, American Express and Amazon.
