its FQ2'23 earnings release on November 17 without disclosing its sales figures for its recently concluded Singles' Day (11.11) sales event.

We discuss why even a relatively weak FQ2 earnings release should not impact the potential re-rating of BABA as China has started to refine its zero COVID policy.

At these levels, the reward/risk setup pointing to the upside remains attractive, with an earlier reopening likely spurring further buying momentum.

Maintain Strong Buy with a PT of $90.

Robert Way

This article is written by JR Research for reference only. Please note the risks.

Thesis

Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) heads into its highly-anticipated FQ2'23 (quarter ended September 30) earnings release on November 17, even as it held back from reporting actual sales figures for its 2022 Singles' Day (11.11) sales event for the first time.

Alibaba reported that its 11.11 event "[delivered GMV] for brands in line with [2021] despite economic and COVID-related headwinds." Notably, Alibaba reported a gross merchandise value (GMV) of RMB540.3B for 2021's 11.11 event.

Therefore, all eyes will be on CEO Daniel Zhang & team on November 17, as Bloomberg had reported earlier that Alibaba's 11.11 event "may suffer a decline unprecedented in the event's 14-year history."

Despite that, BABA has outperformed the S&P 500 (SPX) (SP500) since we upgraded it to Strong Buy in our previous article. Moreover, BABA's recent recovery was bolstered by the anticipation of a progressive easing of COVID policy. As such, the positive reaction by the market was not surprising.

We discuss why we glean that the mean reversion move for BABA remains attractive at the current levels. Despite the massive pessimism seen as investors further de-rated China's political risks, BABA's price action remains constructive. Coupled with a well-beaten-down valuation in line with its Hong Kong tech peers, we assess that BABA's reward/risk profile remains attractive.

Maintain Strong Buy with a medium-term price target (PT) of $90.

Refinement Of China's COVID Policy Is Good Progress

China lifted the market's sentiments last week as the newly installed Politburo Standing Committee (PSC) highlighted the need for "more decisive" measures, as Bloomberg reported:

In a meeting of the new Politburo Standing Committee, the members called for more decisive measures to curb the spread of the virus so as to resume normal life and production as soon as possible, according to the Xinhua News Agency. - Bloomberg

Therefore the "20 measures" rolled out by China's State Council and National Health Commission that reduced centralized quarantine time and flight suspension penalties were not expected by the market. Moreover, it occurred while COVID cases continued rising. Bloomberg reported that China's COVID cases increased to 11.3K on Friday (November 11), breaking above 10K for the first time since April on Thursday.

Furthermore, some cities actually reduced mass testing despite the rising cases. Hence, we believe the odds for a progressive ending in COVID zero are increasingly likely.

Still, investors should not rule out Beijing tightening its COVID policy again if COVID cases continue to rise higher, or even spike. China has maintained that the recent measures do not indicate that China has moved to living with the virus. Stamping out COVID expeditiously remains the guiding principle of its policy measures. As such, investors should expect near-term downside volatility if Beijing tightens further.

What's Next For Alibaba?

Alibaba Revenue change % and Adjusted EBITDA change % consensus estimates (S&P Cap IQ)

Therefore, we think the thesis for a bottoming in Alibaba's revenue and profitability growth by FY23 (year ending March 2023) is increasingly likely.

China's hand has likely been forced by the worsening global macroeconomic headwinds that has added significant stress to its domestic malaise. Moreover, China's trade surplus weakened further in October as exports fell for the first time since May 2020, down 0.3% YoY.

Furthermore, China's producer price index (PPI) declined 1.3% YoY in October, down for the first time in over two years. Hence, the disinflation signals are building up in China's economy, likely spurring policymakers to act more urgently to arrest China's economic malaise.

Therefore, while Alibaba may report a relatively tepid or even lower-than-project FQ2 earnings release, the market is already looking ahead. While still early, Goldman Sachs had previously highlighted that it expected a reopening in the "second quarter of [2023]." Therefore, we believe Wall Street's estimates have been predicated on such a possibility.

Given that China has already started to set the wheels in motion, despite the surge in COVID cases, we believe the reward/risk for an earlier exit is likely pointing to the upside.

Is BABA Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?

BABA price chart (weekly) (TradingView)

We emphasized in our previous update that BABA has two robust support zones that could see buyers defending vigorously against further selling pressure.

Therefore, even after the market forced sellers to give up after it broke below its March lows, buyers came in to defend its October 2015 levels ($57). That level appears to have been defended resolutely, which suggests that the market pulled the rug on weak holders who added the dips in March/May 2022.

Notwithstanding, we still need BABA to retake its March level and sit above it decisively for our thesis of a mean-reversion setup toward the $95 level to play out accordingly.

With China moving progressively away from its zero COVID strategy, we believe the potential for Alibaba to outperform the markedly downgraded consensus projections is looking increasingly likely.

Maintain Strong Buy with a medium-term PT of $90.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Please note the risks.ThesisAlibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) heads into its highly-anticipated FQ2'23 (quarter ended September 30) earnings release on November 17, even as it held back from reporting actual sales figures for its 2022 Singles' Day (11.11) sales event for the first time.Alibaba reported that its 11.11 event \"[delivered GMV] for brands in line with [2021] despite economic and COVID-related headwinds.\" Notably, Alibaba reported a gross merchandise value (GMV) of RMB540.3B for 2021's 11.11 event. Therefore, all eyes will be on CEO Daniel Zhang & team on November 17, as Bloomberg had reported earlier that Alibaba's 11.11 event \"may suffer a decline unprecedented in the event's 14-year history.\"Despite that, BABA has outperformed the S&P 500 (SPX) (SP500) since we upgraded it to Strong Buy in our previous article. Coupled with a well-beaten-down valuation in line with its Hong Kong tech peers, we assess that BABA's reward/risk profile remains attractive.Maintain Strong Buy with a medium-term price target (PT) of $90.Refinement Of China's COVID Policy Is Good ProgressChina lifted the market's sentiments last week as the newly installed Politburo Standing Committee (PSC) highlighted the need for \"more decisive\" measures, as Bloomberg reported:In a meeting of the new Politburo Standing Committee, the members called for more decisive measures to curb the spread of the virus so as to resume normal life and production as soon as possible, according to the Xinhua News Agency. - BloombergTherefore the \"20 measures\" rolled out by China's State Council and National Health Commission that reduced centralized quarantine time and flight suspension penalties were not expected by the market. Moreover, it occurred while COVID cases continued rising. Bloomberg reported that China's COVID cases increased to 11.3K on Friday (November 11), breaking above 10K for the first time since April on Thursday.Furthermore, some cities actually reduced mass testing despite the rising cases. Hence, we believe the odds for a progressive ending in COVID zero are increasingly likely.Still, investors should not rule out Beijing tightening its COVID policy again if COVID cases continue to rise higher, or even spike. China has maintained that the recent measures do not indicate that China has moved to living with the virus. Stamping out COVID expeditiously remains the guiding principle of its policy measures. As such, investors should expect near-term downside volatility if Beijing tightens further. What's Next For Alibaba?Alibaba Revenue change % and Adjusted EBITDA change % consensus estimates (S&P Cap IQ)Therefore, we think the thesis for a bottoming in Alibaba's revenue and profitability growth by FY23 (year ending March 2023) is increasingly likely.China's hand has likely been forced by the worsening global macroeconomic headwinds that has added significant stress to its domestic malaise. Moreover, China's trade surplus weakened further in October as exports fell for the first time since May 2020, down 0.3% YoY.Furthermore, China's producer price index (PPI) declined 1.3% YoY in October, down for the first time in over two years. Hence, the disinflation signals are building up in China's economy, likely spurring policymakers to act more urgently to arrest China's economic malaise. Therefore, while Alibaba may report a relatively tepid or even lower-than-project FQ2 earnings release, the market is already looking ahead. While still early, Goldman Sachs had previously highlighted that it expected a reopening in the \"second quarter of [2023].\" Therefore, we believe Wall Street's estimates have been predicated on such a possibility.Given that China has already started to set the wheels in motion, despite the surge in COVID cases, we believe the reward/risk for an earlier exit is likely pointing to the upside. Is BABA Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?BABA price chart (weekly) (TradingView)We emphasized in our previous update that BABA has two robust support zones that could see buyers defending vigorously against further selling pressure. Therefore, even after the market forced sellers to give up after it broke below its March lows, buyers came in to defend its October 2015 levels ($57). That level appears to have been defended resolutely, which suggests that the market pulled the rug on weak holders who added the dips in March/May 2022.Notwithstanding, we still need BABA to retake its March level and sit above it decisively for our thesis of a mean-reversion setup toward the $95 level to play out accordingly. With China moving progressively away from its zero COVID strategy, we believe the potential for Alibaba to outperform the markedly downgraded consensus projections is looking increasingly likely.Maintain Strong Buy with a medium-term PT of $90.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"09988":0.6,"BABA":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1270,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9984120454,"gmtCreate":1667571493078,"gmtModify":1676537939238,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BioNTech SE(BNTX)$Okie","listText":"$BioNTech SE(BNTX)$Okie","text":"$BioNTech SE(BNTX)$Okie","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/3625b917513482c44b272dac78c466b9","width":"1125","height":"2460"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9984120454","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1296,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9986508036,"gmtCreate":1666972135326,"gmtModify":1676537842998,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oki","listText":"Oki","text":"Oki","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9986508036","repostId":"1124585892","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1124585892","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1666965905,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1124585892?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-28 22:05","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Intel Upgrades, Meta Platforms Downgrade: Top Calls on Wall Street","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1124585892","media":"The Fly","summary":"Top 5 Upgrades:Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis upgraded Intel (INTC) to Equal Weight from Underweight","content":"

Top 5 Upgrades:

Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis upgraded Intel (INTC) to Equal Weight from Underweight with an unchanged price target of $30. Coastal's Q3 results exceeded Street forecasts, and its growth outlook remains robust as it continues to add new partners, where it maintains a solid pipeline of new potential partners, Feaster tells investors in a research note.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"UBSFY":0.9,"TNL":0.9,"LHX":0.9,"TCNNF":0.9,"GTBIF":0.9,"META":0.9,"INTC":0.9,"GILD":0.9,"GERN":0.9,"FSLR":0.9,"MRTX":0.9,"AMPY":0.9,"WU":0.9,"CAT":0.9,"CCB":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1586,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9986501724,"gmtCreate":1666972116468,"gmtModify":1676537842998,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Ok","listText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Ok","text":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Ok","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/8ce94d2376665e33083eb5d982a727f1","width":"1125","height":"2196"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9986501724","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1330,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9983127689,"gmtCreate":1666188064241,"gmtModify":1676537719953,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Boeing(BA)$Ok","listText":"$Boeing(BA)$Ok","text":"$Boeing(BA)$Ok","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/4b91e747ec84532107eeb37289fb724a","width":"1125","height":"2460"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9983127689","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":985,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9989776166,"gmtCreate":1666100708556,"gmtModify":1676537705941,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Boeing(BA)$Ok","listText":"$Boeing(BA)$Ok","text":"$Boeing(BA)$Ok","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/ad8b8b7d2967cc63174073cc1600fc17","width":"1125","height":"2460"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9989776166","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1074,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9989778396,"gmtCreate":1666100598715,"gmtModify":1676537705911,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9989778396","repostId":"1188613168","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1188613168","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1666100338,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1188613168?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-18 21:38","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Airline and Cruise Stocks Rose in Morning Trading, with Carnival Jumping over 9%","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1188613168","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Airline and cruise stocks rose in morning trading. Investors are relieved, but in truth nobody has much to celebrate. On Monday, U.K. Treasury chief Jeremy Huntrolled back £32 billion, equivalent to about $36 billion, out of the £45 billion in tax cuts promised by his predecessorKwasi Kwarteng. British sovereign bonds rallied, particularly those with shorter maturities.BOE Gov. Andrew Bailey’s gamble paid off. Last week, he reiterated that bond buying wouldn’t be extended, putting the pension-fund industry at risk. Gilts set the price for U.K. government borrowing but also are key for financial stability, so neither the BOE nor the Treasury could afford to let the volatility sparked by Mr. Kwarteng’s plans persist. But the government blinked first, after financial instability sparked a rebellion within the Conservative Party. The incident highlights why investors shouldre-evaluate bonds. Yields can only go so high relative to interest-rate expectations before officials are forced to intervene one way or another. The message for politicians is also clear: Even if central bankers ultimately step in during a crisis, antagonizing them can easily backfire, because they are harder to remove than elected officials.Contrary to recent chatter in the City of London and on Wall Street, though, it is doubtful investors ever genuinely feared so-called fiscal domination: U.K. politicians overriding the BOE and creating endless inflation. If that were the case, sterling’s initial drop against the eurowouldn’t have reversed so quickly. But this also means that Mr. Hunt’s U-turn doesn’t provide the economy, or the pound, with much upside from here. While it is good that Mr. Kwarteng’sill-conceived tax cutshave been canceled, U.K. policy is now more aimless than ever, trapped between another potential leadership battle and the prospect of a straight-jacketed government until as late as January 2025—the deadline for a parliamentary election. Mr. Hunt seems to be focused on reducing bond yields over the next two weeks so that, when the U.K.’s independent fiscal watchdog publishes its medium-term projections for public debt, they are a bit less scary. At current levels, a flat debt-to-output ratio in three years’ time would demand £40 billion more in annual savings, according toSamuel Tombsat Pantheon Macroeconomics.“All departments will need to redouble their efforts to find savings and some areas of spending will need to be cut,” Mr. Hunt said Monday.Such talk echoes the fiscal orthodoxy that sapped U.K. growth in the 2010s. Even the inflation-reducing energy-bill cap is set to be redrawn next year to reduce expenses. Public-sector austerity has become yet another risk for the country’s economy, on top of rising energy and mortgage costs and a shrinking labor force. After Monday’s gilt-market rally, yields remain elevated. The problem is that they are determined more by the central bank than by the stock of government debt, and the BOE finds it easier to ignore concerns other than high inflation. It has refused to act more decisively to help pension funds unwind their leverage quickly—leverage motivated by accounting standards enforced by regulators—and even remains committed to selling its own bond portfolio. Since Mr. Baileysaid in a speech Saturdaythat these bond sales aren’t part of setting monetary policy, the only rationale for not suspending them can be establishing its own supremacy over the Treasury. An important learning from the post-2008 period was that some coordination between governments and central banks can lead to better outcomes. As the U.K. has so dramatically shown, this also risks getting eroded by rising interest rates.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1319,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":330198272745648,"gmtCreate":1721620467323,"gmtModify":1721620476381,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SIA(C6L.SI)$ Huat la","listText":"$SIA(C6L.SI)$ Huat la","text":"$SIA(C6L.SI)$ Huat la","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/3ee75a0aa3a22e43bd502d1942f65169","width":"927","height":"1599"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/330198272745648","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2938,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":146308554,"gmtCreate":1626052219878,"gmtModify":1703752340484,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like if you think bullish","listText":"Please like if you think bullish","text":"Please like if you think bullish","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":15,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/146308554","repostId":"1114863871","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1114863871","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1626039626,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1114863871?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-12 05:40","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Chase, Delta, Goldman Sachs, PepsiCo, and Other Stocks to Watch This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1114863871","media":"Barron's","summary":"Second-quarter earnings season gets under way this week, with several big banks reporting. The blue-chip index logged a seventh straight day of gains in its longest winning streak since August 2020. The Nasdaq also hit all-time intraday and closing highs, and the Dow gained to set its first record high since May 7. Shares of Tesla (TSLA) fluctuated before ending slightly higher after the electric car-maker's second-quarter deliveries hit a new record but still missed analysts' estimates, based on Bloomberg consensus data.
\n
Investorsconsidered the U.S. Labor Department's June jobs report, the central economic data point that came out this week. The print showed a stronger-than-anticipated acceleration in hiring, with non-farm payrolls rising by 850,000 for a sixth straight monthly gain. The unemployment rate, however, unexpectedly ticked up slightly to 5.9%.
\n
\"This is the 'Goldilocks report' that the market was looking for today. You had a nice print here of 850,000 jobs being added, wage pressure remaining — I wouldn't call them necessarily contained — but surprising here on the downside versus consensus estimates. So this is telling us right now that economic growth is continuing to accelerate here, the jobs market is continuing to heal,\" Emily Roland, co-chief investment strategist at John Hancock Investment Management, told Yahoo Finance. \"We're making progress here in terms of what the Fed has set out to do, which is in order to get unemployment get down, they're going to let inflation run a little bit hot here. Not too hot, not too cold — this is just what the market wants.\"
\n
Heading into the report, equities have been buoyed by a slew of strong economic data earlier this week, especially on the labor market.Private payrolls rose by a better-than-expected 692,000 in June, according to ADP, andweekly initial jobless claims improved more than expectedto the lowest level since March 2020. Still, other reports underscored the still-prevalent labor supply challenges impacting companies across industries, with the scarcity capping what has otherwise been a robust economic rebound.
\n
\"It's really the labor market supply that's putting the brake on hiring right now,\" Luke Tilley, chief economist for Wilmington Trust, told Yahoo Finance. \"But we're pretty optimistic, the market is pretty optimistic, and we think that's a big part of what's driving these indexes higher.\"
\n
Friday's jobs report will also give markets a suggestion as to the timing of the Federal Reserve's next monetary policy move. For now, the Fed has kept in place both of its key crisis-era policies, or quantitative easing and a near-zero benchmark interest rate. However, an especially strong jobs report and faster-than-expected print on wage growth could justify an earlier-than-currently-telegraphed shift by the central bank.
\n
“For the first time in years, I’m actually worried about a too hot number causing some kind of volatility or pullback in stocks. That’s because the Fed has signaled they are looking to taper QE,\" Tom Essaye, Sevens Report Research founder, told Yahoo Finance. \"And if we get a really, really strong jobs number and a hot wage number, then markets are going to start to say gee, are they going to taper QE maybe before November, or are they going to taper it more intensely than we thought and in a market that's frankly been very calm and a little bit complacent, that could cause volatility.\"
\n
Still, the Fed has suggested it would not react rashly to single reports, and has given itself leeway to adjust the timeline of its monetary policy pivots as more data comes in.
\n
\"I think everyone's counting on the Fed continuing really for the foreseeable future. So I don't see any big changes there coming before 2023,\" Octavio Marenzi, CEO and founder of Opimas, told Yahoo Finance.\"And even then the Fed has hedged its bets very significantly — they've basically said we might in 2023 raise interest rates twice, but then again we might not. So I think the smart money is betting things are going to keep on going, they're going to carry on with a very accommodative monetary policy.\"
\n
Even with the recent strength for stocks, market strategists say that uncertainty about the future of the Fed’s asset purchases and the upcoming earnings season could keep stocks from making major gains in the near term.
\n
“The market is still very much concerned about the Fed’s reaction function,” said Max Gokhman, head of asset allocation at Pacific Life Fund Advisors, adding that he thought there was still a lot of slack in the labor market.
\n
4:01 p.m. ET: Stocks close higher, S&P 500 posts longest winning streak since August 2020
\n
Here's where markets closed out on Friday:
\n
\n

S&P 500 (^GSPC): +32.51 (+0.75%) to 4,352.45

\n

Dow (^DJI): +154.4 (+0.45%) to 34,787.93

\n

Nasdaq (^IXIC): +116.95 (+0.81%) to 14,639.33

\n
","source":"lsy1584348713084","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The blue-chip index logged a seventh straight day of gains in its longest winning streak since August 2020. The Nasdaq also hit all-time intraday and closing highs, and the Dow gained to set its first record high since May 7. Shares of Tesla (TSLA) fluctuated before ending slightly higher after the electric car-maker's second-quarter deliveries hit a new record but still missed analysts' estimates, based on Bloomberg consensus data.\nInvestorsconsidered the U.S. Labor Department's June jobs report, the central economic data point that came out this week. The print showed a stronger-than-anticipated acceleration in hiring, with non-farm payrolls rising by 850,000 for a sixth straight monthly gain. The unemployment rate, however, unexpectedly ticked up slightly to 5.9%.\n\"This is the 'Goldilocks report' that the market was looking for today. Not too hot, not too cold — this is just what the market wants.\"\nHeading into the report, equities have been buoyed by a slew of strong economic data earlier this week, especially on the labor market.Private payrolls rose by a better-than-expected 692,000 in June, according to ADP, andweekly initial jobless claims improved more than expectedto the lowest level since March 2020. Still, other reports underscored the still-prevalent labor supply challenges impacting companies across industries, with the scarcity capping what has otherwise been a robust economic rebound.\n\"It's really the labor market supply that's putting the brake on hiring right now,\" Luke Tilley, chief economist for Wilmington Trust, told Yahoo Finance. \"But we're pretty optimistic, the market is pretty optimistic, and we think that's a big part of what's driving these indexes higher.\"\nFriday's jobs report will also give markets a suggestion as to the timing of the Federal Reserve's next monetary policy move. For now, the Fed has kept in place both of its key crisis-era policies, or quantitative easing and a near-zero benchmark interest rate. However, an especially strong jobs report and faster-than-expected print on wage growth could justify an earlier-than-currently-telegraphed shift by the central bank.\n“For the first time in years, I’m actually worried about a too hot number causing some kind of volatility or pullback in stocks. That’s because the Fed has signaled they are looking to taper QE,\" Tom Essaye, Sevens Report Research founder, told Yahoo Finance. \"And if we get a really, really strong jobs number and a hot wage number, then markets are going to start to say gee, are they going to taper QE maybe before November, or are they going to taper it more intensely than we thought and in a market that's frankly been very calm and a little bit complacent, that could cause volatility.\"\nStill, the Fed has suggested it would not react rashly to single reports, and has given itself leeway to adjust the timeline of its monetary policy pivots as more data comes in.\n\"I think everyone's counting on the Fed continuing really for the foreseeable future. So I think the smart money is betting things are going to keep on going, they're going to carry on with a very accommodative monetary policy.\"\nEven with the recent strength for stocks, market strategists say that uncertainty about the future of the Fed’s asset purchases and the upcoming earnings season could keep stocks from making major gains in the near term.\n“The market is still very much concerned about the Fed’s reaction function,” said Max Gokhman, head of asset allocation at Pacific Life Fund Advisors, adding that he thought there was still a lot of slack in the labor market.\n4:01 p.m. ET: Stocks close higher, S&P 500 posts longest winning streak since August 2020\nHere's where markets closed out on Friday:\n\nS&P 500 (^GSPC): +32.51 (+0.75%) to 4,352.45\nDow (^DJI): +154.4 (+0.45%) to 34,787.93\nNasdaq (^IXIC): +116.95 (+0.81%) to 14,639.33","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SPY":0.9,".IXIC":0.9,".SPX":0.9,".DJI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":874,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":831855350,"gmtCreate":1629302947470,"gmtModify":1676529998357,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Bullish","listText":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Bullish","text":"$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$Bullish","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/78e35aafd6901212e2726387316e0240","width":"1125","height":"1949"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":11,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":1,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/831855350","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":542,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":130705057,"gmtCreate":1621563840779,"gmtModify":1704359735028,"author":{"id":"3584100767586786","authorId":"3584100767586786","name":"Lgdnic","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/493d41d71270a52770b856ed4e663073","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3584100767586786","authorIdStr":"3584100767586786"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Sup ","listText":"Sup ","text":"Sup","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":5,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/130705057","repostId":"2137763179","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2137763179","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1621544173,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2137763179?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-21 04:56","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street ends to snap 3-day losing streak as technology stocks rise higher","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2137763179","media":"Reuters","summary":"May 20 (Reuters) - Wall Street's main indexes rebounded on Thursday after a three-day slide, buoyed ","content":"
May 20 (Reuters) - Wall Street's main indexes rebounded on Thursday after a three-day slide, buoyed by gains in technology stocks as the smallest weekly jobless claims since the start of a pandemic-driven recession lifted the mood.

Bitcoin clawed back some lost ground to trade near $40,000 a day after a brutal selloff, helping renew appetite for risk.
