plant slated for 2024 will use 4-nanometer technologyChange is a win for Biden efforts to bolster US manufacturingTaiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will offer advanced 4-nanometer chips when its new $12 billion plant in Arizona opens in 2024, an upgrade from its previous public statements, after US customers such as Apple Inc. pushed the company to do so, according to people familiar with the matter.TSMC is expected to announce the new plan when President Joe Biden and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo visit Phoenix for a ceremony next Tuesday, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private. The TSMC factory had been slated to make 5-nanometer semiconductors, a standard that will be far from the cutting edge by 2024. The Taiwanese company also will commit to adding a second nearby plant, which will make even more advanced, 3-nanometer chips, they said.TSMC previously said it would make 20,000 wafers per month at the Arizona facility, although production may increase from those original plans, the people said. Apple will use about a third of the output as production gets underway.Apple and other major tech companies rely on TSMC for their chipmaking needs, and the change means they’ll be able to get more of their processors from the US. Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook has previously told employees that his company plans to source chips from the Arizona plant. He’s scheduled to attend the event next week, the people said.A representative for TSMC declined to comment. Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.Supply-chain disruptions and trade tensions with China have fueled efforts to bring more manufacturing to the US and Europe. US lawmakers also passed the Chips and Science Act this year, offering $50 billion in incentives for companies looking to create semiconductors in the country. TSMC is likely to receive billions in subsidies.TSMC, headquartered on the island, is the world’s go-to supplier for chips powering everything from smartphones to electric vehicles. Most of its production is still centralized in Taiwan. In addition to Apple, TSMC customers like Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Nvidia Corp. have asked the Taiwanese company to make more sophisticated chips at the Arizona plant, according to people familiar with the discussions.AMD CEO Lisa Su and Nvidia head Jensen Huang are expected to attend the event. Representatives for AMD and Nvidia declined to comment.TSMC’s customers have asked the company to roll out its latest technologies simultaneously in the US and Taiwan, the people said, which would help fulfill a Biden administration goal of having the most cutting-edge chips in the world produced on US soil. But TSMC has not committed to that approach, and Taiwanese and company officials have said that they intend to keep the latest technology at Taiwan.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSM":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":637,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9954529153,"gmtCreate":1676474451273,"gmtModify":1676474457702,"author":{"id":"3581873279775743","authorId":"3581873279775743","name":"Onglie","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/ee9a02d518986ab876ea3421b40a35ed","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3581873279775743","idStr":"3581873279775743"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buffet selling his shares","listText":"Buffet selling his shares","text":"Buffet selling his shares","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9954529153","repostId":"1185925022","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1185925022","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1676471700,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1185925022?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-02-15 22:35","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Semiconductor Stocks Tumbled in Morning Trading; Unfortunately, there aren’t many investors looking for cryptos to buy in 2023. The ultra-loose monetary policy is long gone, and most cryptocurrency projects are finding it extraordinarily difficult to maintain their current price, let alone their uptrend.Nonetheless, there are still many projects that have good upside prospects. The crypto market is highly cyclical, and buying some of these projects right now could pay off in the long run, especially once the market turns a corner. However, investors should also consider the risk-reward ratio they target when investing in crypto. A good rule of thumb is to put around 5% of your portfolio into highly speculative assets. While Bitcoin(BTC-USD) and Ethereum(ETH-USD) are solid long-term investments, their upside potential isn’t as great due to their high market capitalizations, and I don’t consider both of them as “highly speculative.” Almost everyone knows about the two big projects, and discussing them more in this article will be of little value. Therefore, this article will feature the following five cryptos for investors looking for cryptos to buy with more upside potential. Naturally, this comes with more volatility, but these assets should fit the “highly speculative” criteria:Cryptos to Buy: Qtum (QTUM-USD)Qtum(QTUM-USD) deserves a much higher valuation due to its complexity and solutionist purpose. The project aims to combine the strengths of Bitcoin and Ethereum while addressing the problems on these blockchains. The most significant feature of the Qtum blockchain is that it allows “smart contracts to change the core parameters of the network such as block size and gas fees without ever needing to hard fork the blockchain.” This characteristic could boost the project’s value once it gains more recognition. Moreover, the project could benefit disproportionately from the next crypto bull run for two reasons: One, its small market cap and cyclical nature. Two, the project could see more inflow of funds and developers as Bitcoin and Ethereum are heavily congested during such bull runs. The project’s flexibility regarding fees and support for various programming languages will also make it more appealing.Cryptos to Buy: r/Cryptocurrency Moons (MOON-USD)r/Cryptocurrency Moons(MOON-USD) are the community tokens for Reddit’s largest cryptocurrency subreddit. The token is supported by the subreddit’s growing members and will stay relevant despite its small size, as Reddit is among the most influential social media platforms. On the contrary, the MOON token does not have developers and is entirely decentralized. Thus, this is not a utility token but rather an asset that relies primarily on crypto’s popularity. This token could surge once the crypto market turns a corner and the subreddit gains more activity. Most significantly, many big-name exchanges are active on the r/Cryptocurrency subreddit and are likely to list the token sometime in the future.ALTAVA (TAVA-USD)ALTAVA(TAVA-USD) is a project focusing on the metaverse and luxury non-fungible tokens. TAVA had a rough start in 2022 due to the broad-based decline in crypto-related assets last year, but there’s more to look forward to for this token. First, the TAVA token is resilient at its current valuation as all its cons are priced in. Moreover, Altava is an Asia-based company that is more resilient and less affected by the FTX crisis than most American projects. It is also a company with actual revenue. Altava is breaking even for 2022, which is rare for Web3 projects that usually burn capital and have zero revenue. The company also has partnerships with many blue-chip companies, which is another plus point.Second, Meta Platforms(NASDAQ: META) has yet to give up on its metaverse segment and continues spending billions on marketing and developing the virtual world. If this does pay off in the long run, TAVA is set to be a major beneficiary.XRP (XRP-USD)Ripple’s XRP(XRP-USD) is among the high-risk, high-reward cryptos to buy ideas despite being among the market’s largest projects. Its blockchain technology is among the most successful and is among the rare few projects that managed to have a real-world impact. The company has partnered with 300+ financial institutions, including Bank of America(NYSE: BAC), Standard Chartered Bank(OTCMKTS: SCBFY), American Express(NYSE: AXP), and the Royal Bank of Canada(NYSE: RY).In addition, Ripple is also the first choice for many countries that are considering central bank digital currencies (or CBDCs). Of course, one may think that such a project should be valued much higher. Why isn’t it, then? The biggest concern for Ripple is that it is under a Securities and Exchange Commission (or SEC)lawsuit. The SEC considers XRP as a security, and the ruling could have significant implications for the broader crypto market.Conversely, Ripple has a strong case as XRP does not meet the definition of securities and has no investment contract, and the case is more in its favor. However, the SEC is a federal agency, which complicates the issue. If XRP does win the lawsuit, its upside could be massive.Filecoin (FIL-USD)Filecoin(FIL-USD) is a decentralized peer-to-peer storage system that could gain traction due to the fast-growing data center industry. The project offers can store data without a centralized authority and without any censorship for much lower costs than traditional data centers. Moreover, there’s no central server, so the project offers remarkable uptime.I see the FIL token valued much more than it currently is in the future. As Data centers and cloud businesses continue to grow, the demand for FIL will too. Blockchain storage is still an up-and-coming industry; if it goes mainstream, Filecoin will likely be a multibagger investment. Hackers pulled off the biggest ever cryptocurrency heist on Tuesday, ","content":"
WASHINGTON, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Hackers pulled off the biggest ever cryptocurrency heist on Tuesday, stealing more than $600 million in digital coins from token-swapping platform Poly Network, only to return $342 million worth of tokens less than 48 hours later, the company said.
\n
Here is what we know so far about the heist.
\n
WHAT IS POLY NETWORK?
\n
A lesser-known name in the world of crypto, Poly Network is a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that facilitates peer-to-peer transactions with a focus on allowing users to transfer or swap tokens across different blockchains.
\n
For example, a customer could use Poly Network to transfer tokens such as bitcoin from the Ethereum blockchain to the Binance Smart Chain.
\n
Poly Network was founded by Chinese entrepreneur Da Hongfei, who is currently chief executive of Neo, a blockchain platform.
\n
According to Neo's website, Poly Network was launched in August last year as a collaboration between Neo, crypto trading platform Switcheo and blockchain company Ontology.
\n
HOW DID HACKERS STEAL THE TOKENS?
\n
Poly Network operates on the Binance Smart Chain, Ethereum and Polygon blockchains. Tokens are swapped between the blockchains using a smart contract which contains instructions on when to release the assets to the counterparties.
\n
One of the smart contracts that Poly Network uses to transfer tokens between blockchains maintains large amounts of liquidity to allow users to efficiently swap tokens, according to crypto intelligence firm CipherTrace.
\n
Poly Network tweeted on Tuesday that a preliminary investigation found the hackers exploited a vulnerability in this smart contract.
\n
According to an analysis of the transactions tweeted by Kelvin Fichter, an Ethereum programmer, the hackers appeared to override the contract instructions for each of the three blockchains and diverted the funds to three wallet addresses, digital locations for storing tokens. These were later traced and published by Poly Network.
\n
The attackers stole funds in more than 12 different cryptocurrencies, including ether and a type of bitcoin, according to blockchain forensics company Chainalysis.
\n
A person claiming to have perpetrated the hack said they had spotted a \"bug,\" without specifying, and that they wanted to \"expose the vulnerability\" before others could exploit it, according to digital messages posted on the Ethereum network published by Chainalysis. Reuters could not verify the authenticity of the messages.
\n
WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?
\n
Coindesk reported on Tuesday that the hackers had initially tried to transfer some of the assets from one of the three wallets into liquidity pool Curve.fi, but that transfer was rejected. About $100 million was moved out of another of the wallets and deposited into liquidity pool Ellipsis Finance, Coindesk also reported.
\n
Curve.fi. and Ellipsis Finance could not immediately be reached for comment.
\n
But early Wednesday the hackers started transferring assets back to Poly Network and by Thursday morning had returned $342 million worth of tokens, with $268 million stolen from the Ethereum chain outstanding, Poly Network said. Around 10 a.m. ET (1400 GMT) on Thursday, Poly Network said it was still communicating with the hackers, who were gradually transferring back the remaining assets.
\n
WHO IS THE HACKER?
\n
The hacker or hackers have not yet been identified.
\n
Cryptocurrency security firm SlowMist said on its website that it has identified the attacker's mailbox, internet protocol address, and device fingerprints, but the company has not yet named any individuals. SlowMist said the heist was \"likely to be a long-planned, organized and prepared attack.\"
\n
Despite the purported hacker posing as a so-called \"white hat\", an ethical hacker who had \"always\" planned to give the money back, according to the messages published by Chainalysis, some crypto experts are skeptical.
\n
Gurvais Grigg, chief technology officer at Chainalysis and former FBI veteran, said it was unlikely that white hat hackers would steal such a large sum. He said on Wednesday that they had probably returned some of the funds because it had proved too difficult to convert them into cash.
\n
\"It's hard to know the motivation ... Let's see the if they return the whole amount,\" he added.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
How hackers stole $600 mln in crypto tokens from Poly Network
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHow hackers stole $600 mln in crypto tokens from Poly Network\n
\n\n
\n\n\n\n\n\n

\n\n
\n
Reuters
\n
2021-08-12 23:08
\n
\n\n\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
