Part of the exuberance for the company came from an overly optimistic view of how fast EV companies will grow. But Nio's stock has fallen 60% over the past year. This huge drop has caused many investors to ask whether or not Nio is a good stock to buy right now.To answer that question, let's take a closer look at what is going right for Nio right now, and what hurdles the company is facing. What's going right for Nio right nowAll start-up companies need a lot of cash to get off the ground, and Nio is doing fantastic on this front. The company ended the third quarter with $7.2 billion in cash and cash equivalents, giving Nio plenty of money to keep its company running for a while. Not only is Nio well-funded, but the company has also done an impressive job of ramping up vehicle deliveries over the past few years. In the fourth quarter vehicle deliveries rose 60% to 40,052. And for all of 2022 deliveries increased by 34% to 122,486.Nio's revenue is also climbing quickly, with revenue up 32% to $1.8 billion in the third quarter. While Nio has already released its fourth-quarter delivery figures, it won't release its fourth-quarter financial results until next month. Finally, Nio is benefiting from the fact that China is the world's largest automotive market, and EV adoption in the country is one of the highest globally. In the first half of 2022, China accounted for 56% of global passenger EV sales -- up from 48% in 2021, according to Bloomberg research. What's going wrong for NioBased on all of the above, it's not surprising that some investors have been bullish on Nio. But there are also some significant hurdles that the company faces that could slow down the company's growth story.First, while Nio's deliveries have accelerated over the past few years, the company is facing a slowdown right now. The company said in a statement in December that it faced delivery and production challenges because of the recent coronavirus outbreak in China. As a result, the company's deliveries of 40,000 vehicles for the fourth quarter were below management's original estimates of between 43,000 to 48,000 vehicles. An economic slowdown would be problematic for Nio and other automakers, as consumers may be inclined to put off large purchases until the economy rebounds. Some EV makers, including Tesla, have already had to cut vehicle prices in China to spur demand.Making matters worse, Nio's gross margins are decreasing. In the third quarter Nio's gross margins fell to 13.3%, down from 20.3% in 2021 in the year-ago quarter. An increase in battery costs, a decrease in government automotive credits, and an increase in investments all weighed down on Nio's margins.Nio stock isn't a buy right nowNio's stock may look cheap right now with the company's price-to-sales ratio of 2.7, but for all of the reasons listed above I'd be hesitant to buy Nio stock right now.Nio is still unprofitable, and with gross margins moving in the wrong direction there's still more uncertainty for Nio ahead. All of this makes Nio a risky investment right now, and one that I think investors should avoid.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"09866":0.9,"NIO.SI":0.9,"NIO":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3673,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9924812064,"gmtCreate":1672218782258,"gmtModify":1676538654513,"author":{"id":"3580932551134778","authorId":"3580932551134778","name":"SteveGoh","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/11095a7766734a010cae2953dbc20e3e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580932551134778","authorIdStr":"3580932551134778"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Go Fears of a recession impacted the markets, and investors were concerned about the near- to medium-term prospects of early-stage growth companies.Nio stock was no exception. The stock has plunged over 60% so far in 2022. Does the steep fall show genuine concerns about the company, or is this a buying opportunity?Consistent growth in deliveriesNio, which started producing its EVs in June 2018, has been growing its deliveries consistently. The China-based company has delivered 273,741 EVs so far. In November 2022, the company delivered 14,178 electric cars, a 30% year-over-year increase.Data source: Nio. Chart by author. This chart shows consistent growth in the company's EV deliveries since 2018. In the fourth quarter, Nio expects to deliver between 43,000 and 48,000 vehicles. So the stock's significant fall this year looks unjustified.Apart from broader macroeconomic concerns relating to the slowdown and rising rates, another factor that affected Nio stock is China's strict COVID-19 restrictions. News related to easing of its zero-COVID norms sent Chinese stocks soaring recently. At the same time, the Russia-Ukraine war has put further pressure on an already tight supply chain. These supply chain issues have hurt EV stocks significantly. Rising battery costs hurt Nio's margins in the third quarter.Although there are industry- and market-related headwinds, Nio is trying to manage them well. And the company has been making progress on multiple fronts.Growing footprints in EuropeIn addition to the China market, Nio is expanding its footprints into the European market. It entered the Norwegian market in September 2021. In October 2022, it held its launch event, Nio Berlin, where it unveiled details of its products for more European markets, including Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. To establish its footprint in Europe, the company intends to launch three new models in the European market. The ET7, EL7, and ET5 launches received a lot of attention. ET7 deliveries have already begun, and deliveries of the EL7 and ET5 are expected to commence in January 2023.Nio intends to build 120 battery-swap stations across Europe by the end of 2023. It has also established a research and development unit in Berlin. And it plans to open additional Nio houses and spaces in 10 European cities in the coming future.Although European carmakers lead in traditional vehicles -- not only in Europe, but in several countries globally as well -- Nio has a window of opportunity in the emerging EV segment. The company has come up with an innovative subscription model for Europe, with terms from just one month to 60 months, to make inroads into this key market.New businessesIn addition to EVs, Nio is entering into some new key businesses. The ones directly related to its EV business are making batteries and chipsets in house. This will not only ensure smooth supply, but also help drive margins. Nio is also entering into the smartphone business. As these businesses scale up, they should add to the company's growth. Further, the company can leverage its existing R&D investment and supply chain across all its businesses. However, there are significant initial capital investments required to develop these. During the third-quarter call, William Li, Nio's CEO, noted that investments in these new businesses would be around 3 billion RMB to 4 billion RMB in 2023. Additionally, as Nio plans to expand its presence in Europe, marketing and promotional activities will also increase, which will further increase its marketing costs. Is it time to buy Nio stock?Nio's consistent delivery growth, its expansion plans, and the steep correction in its stock price make it attractive. Like other EV stocks, Nio's price-to-sales ratio has come down significantly, making it more appealing.NIO PS Ratio data by YChartsUnlike some of its peers, Nio targets the premium segment of the EV market. It is developing its own battery-swap station network and Nio houses to position itself as a long-term, serious player. Nio expects to achieve breakeven in its core EV business by the end of 2023.The company is still far from bottom-line profits. However, the consistent growth in Nio's deliveries, its focus on quality offerings, and its growth plans inspire confidence in its long-term success. If you already own Nio stock, continue holding it, as 2023 is surely not the time to sell it. If you don't, now could be a good time to enter a position. Although industry, market, and company-specific uncertainties may keep the stock's price volatile, it looks like a solid long-term buy.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"09866":0.9,"NIO":0.9,"NIO.SI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1027,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9923893814,"gmtCreate":1670818581739,"gmtModify":1676538439984,"author":{"id":"3580932551134778","authorId":"3580932551134778","name":"SteveGoh","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/11095a7766734a010cae2953dbc20e3e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580932551134778","authorIdStr":"3580932551134778"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Go go go tiger ","listText":"Go go go tiger ","text":"Go go go tiger","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9923893814","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1174,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9929574851,"gmtCreate":1670716304674,"gmtModify":1676538420786,"author":{"id":"3580932551134778","authorId":"3580932551134778","name":"SteveGoh","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/11095a7766734a010cae2953dbc20e3e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580932551134778","authorIdStr":"3580932551134778"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Argentina go go go ","listText":"Argentina go go go ","text":"Argentina go go go","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9929574851","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":990,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9929574928,"gmtCreate":1670716284864,"gmtModify":1676538420778,"author":{"id":"3580932551134778","authorId":"3580932551134778","name":"SteveGoh","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/11095a7766734a010cae2953dbc20e3e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580932551134778","authorIdStr":"3580932551134778"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Go go tiger go .... Exports from Kazakhstan may be disrupted for months due to damage at a terminal, while Saudi Arabia has flagged potential production cuts by OPEC+ to calm a volatile market. Other members of the cartel including Iraq and Kuwait expressed support.Investors are also watching for progress on the revival of a nuclear deal with Iran, which could lead to a surge in energy flows from the OPEC producer. The Persian Gulf nation said it’s reviewing the Biden administration’s response to an EU-drafted plan to rescue the 2015 accord, including US comments on amendments suggested by Tehran.Iran will seek to fill the void left by Russia in Europe, and try to win back customers in countries like Greece, Italy, Spain and Turkey if a deal is secured, according to people familiar with the matter. Though the benchmark SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust(NYSEARCA:SPY) is down double digits for the year, it’s up around 8% in the trailing month. The investor whose bearish exploits were given the Hollywood treatment in The Big Short has attracted criticism, yet also interest.Writing in his usual cryptic style, Michael Burry appears to be suggesting excessive euphoria is a sign of an impending reality check, mentioning several events and time periods in U.S. history that featured a general transition from bullishness to bearishness. He stated:“The Silliness is back. After 1929, after 1968, after 2000, after 2008, the strain of Silliness that transformed bulls into bubbles completely and utterly disappeared. But that familiar COVID-era Silliness is not dead yet. Like 2001 before Enron, before 9/11, before WorldCom.”Still, Bloomberg notes it’s not entirely clear what exactly Michael Burry is getting at. It notes the hedge fund manager is comparing “this period in markets to 2001 before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the Enron and WorldCom scandals, when the dot-com bubble was unwinding.”Earlier, on July 27, Burry declared in another deleted tweet, “These earnings reports and by Jove the whole season have a ‘Last Hurrah’ feel.” Still, economic indicators within the granularity suggest investors ought to pay attention, even if they don’t agree with the net bearish projection.Jobs and Debt in Focus Amid the Michael Burry TweetInterestingly, Burry launched his latest obscure warning a day before the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released its report on theemployment situationfor July 2022. In this case, the economy added ablistering 528,000 new jobs, blowing past the consensus estimate of 258,000 jobs and sending the unemployment level back down to pre-pandemic levels. On the surface, such news should generate optimism in the equities sector, showing the pandemic-burdened economy is on the comeback trail. However, the Federal Reserve is likely to view this development as a negative because of the inflationary implications of rising wages. Thus, the Fed may need to be more aggressive with its monetary tightening policy.Sandwiching the aforementioned Burry tweet is another shocking development, this time with pointedly bearish implications. On Aug. 2, The Hill reported more than 70% of millennials “have some form of non-mortgage debt, with the average millennial owing $117,000.” Further, the article states “the most common type of debt was credit card debt, with 67 percent of millennials having some amount of debt on a credit card.”To be fair, 63% of affected survey respondents believe they can pay off their debt over the next one to five years. Still, if young people continue to borrow money in a rising interest rate environment – and should the unwinding of some jobs(particularly in the technology space) continue to accelerate – Burry might not appear to be a worrywart. No Stranger to ControversyOver the years, Michael Burry has demonstrated little restraint in stirring the social media pot with his contrarian opinions. The hedge fund manager has garnered a reputation for pessimism, earlier this year warning about the bullwhip effect in retail and multiple compression that may portend a broader market correction.Nevertheless, it’s not fair to imply Burry exclusively promotes bearish arguments. Indeed, in 2019, he made an outlandishly bullish bet on a particular company that would epitomize the current meme-stock phenomenon. Therefore, whatever you think of him, it’s wise to at least pay attention.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".SPX":0.9,"SPY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1461,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9905838260,"gmtCreate":1659846353153,"gmtModify":1703767064966,"author":{"id":"3580932551134778","authorId":"3580932551134778","name":"SteveGoh","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/11095a7766734a010cae2953dbc20e3e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3580932551134778","idStr":"3580932551134778"},"themes":[],"title":"NIO share","htmlText":"Escalating tensions between China and the U.S. aren't a positive development. What happenedThe recent visit by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan has angered China's leadership, and the fallout is starting to have some far-reaching implications. Furthermore, in an industry that has been rattled by Apple’s privacy initiatives, namely its App Tracking Transparency (ATT), despite YouTube Ads taking a bit of a hit, generally speaking, Alphabet’s advertising business has withstood the changes rather well. However, Monness’ Brian White thinks there are too many negative macro developments which even Alphabet won’t manage to fend off.Over the next 12-18 months, the 5-star analyst anticipates soaring inflation, supply chain woes, a tightening monetary policy, unwanted geopolitical surprises, and the “potential bursting of a decade plus asset bubble” to negatively affect worldwide economic growth. And that is all set to impact a segment “ultra-sensitive to the economy.”“As the global economy weakens and the geopolitical backdrop grows more treacherous,” says White, “we expect digital ad spending to come under increased scrutiny this year.”Additionally, while still expected to grow at a “respectable rate,” in such an environment, White expects cloud spending to be impacted too (Alphabet is rated amongst the top-three public cloud vendors, with 9% of 1Q22’s revenue coming from Google Cloud). The result of all these negative developments is a reduction of White’s GOOGL estimates. For 2Q22, White now sees revenue coming in at $69.12 billion (up year-over-year by 12%), down from the prior $70.42 billion, while the EPS forecast is also brought down from $26.12 to $25.95. For the full-year 2022, the revenue forecast is lowered from $292.96 billion to $284.66 billion (up 10%) while the EPS projection is brought down from $107.70 to $104.22.Accordingly, there’s also a reduction to the price target. The figure drops from $3,500 to $2,900, now suggesting shares have room for 21% growth over the one-year timeframe. There’s no change to White’s Buy rating. That said, despite operating in the treacherous macro terrain, GOOGL is that rare beast – a stock with large coverage where everyone is in agreement; all 30 reviews are positive, naturally providing the stock with a Strong Buy consensus rating. The average price target currently stands at $3,090 and change, implying shares will be changing hands for a 29% premium in a year’s time.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GOOGL":0.9,"GOOG":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":810,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9905833575,"gmtCreate":1659846108999,"gmtModify":1703767061856,"author":{"id":"3580932551134778","authorId":"3580932551134778","name":"SteveGoh","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/11095a7766734a010cae2953dbc20e3e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3580932551134778","idStr":"3580932551134778"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like please//@Moonshot:Fundamentals supporting current market bullish trend are totally unfounded. Therefore, whatever you think of him, it’s wise to at least pay attention.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".SPX":0.9,"SPY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":650,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":377794487,"gmtCreate":1619564635249,"gmtModify":1704725860811,"author":{"id":"3580932551134778","authorId":"3580932551134778","name":"SteveGoh","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/11095a7766734a010cae2953dbc20e3e","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3580932551134778","idStr":"3580932551134778"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Comment and like please ","listText":"Comment and like please ","text":"Comment and like please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/377794487","repostId":"1155157199","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1155157199","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1619494851,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1155157199?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-27 11:40","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Microsoft Nears $2 Trillion Market Cap.
