Whether it was a fleeting interest in the metaverse, high-profile initial public offerings (IPO), or the rising adoption of crypto, investors have witnessed peaks and valleys in growth stocks since the outset of the pandemic.Data analytics provider Palantir Technologies often finds its name in the headlines because both the public and private sectors are increasingly using the company's robust software platform. However, over the last 12 months, the company's stock has cratered by 45%. But as investor enthusiasm has waned, Wall Street has identified some catalysts that could serve as long-term growth drivers for the stock. What is Wall Street saying?Over the last month, Wall Street banks Piper Sandler and Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Company have initiated coverage of Palantir stock and assigned a buy or buy-equivalent rating. Piper Sandler's current price target is $15 per share, while Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Company arrived at $20 per share, which implies a 67% upside from where the stock trades today.Alongside Palantir's 2021 earnings results, management issued guidance with expectations of at least 30% revenue growth year over year through 2025. Both banks believe that this target is achievable, given Palantir's most recent operating results, and highlighted increased sales and marketing hiring, as well as continued geographic penetration, as top tailwinds that could propel the company forward.Image source: Getty Images. Are these points valid? In 2021, Palantir generated $1.5 billion in revenue, up 41% year over year. What's most impressive about this growth is the company's penetration of both the public and private sectors. In its early days, Palantir primarily focused on selling software products to the U.S. Government. However, its 2021 results showcased how the company is beginning to gain traction in the commercial atmosphere. Given Palantir's ability to expand beyond its core end market of government agencies and win large deals in the private sector, Wall Street believes that Palantir should be able to reach its future revenue commitment of at least 30%.In 2021, Palantir grew revenue in its commercial segment by 34% year over year. Moreover, commercial-sector customers tripled in 2021 to 147 total clients.Perhaps the most encouraging indicator of Palantir's capabilities is its net dollar retention, which measures how much a company's recurring revenue has increased or decreased over some time by accounting for expansions, as well as churn. Net dollar retention was 113% in the commercial sector, while Palantir's government business reported 146%. The impressive net dollar retention has contributed nicely to Palantir's profitability profile. For the year ended Dec. 31, 2021, Palantir's operating cash flow was $334 million. To reach its long-term revenue goal, Palantir has stated its intent to aggressively invest in sales efforts. For reference, the company began 2021 with only 12 members of its U.S. commercial sales force. But by year's end, Palantir had grown this to a team of 80. Throughout the year, it signed several impressive customers in the commercial realm such as The Merck Group and Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries. To nurture these customers and augment growth in other areas around the globe, Palantir will parallel its U.S. commercial-sector hiring strategy and target additional sales representatives throughout western Europe in countries like France, Germany, and Italy, as well as in South Korea and the Middle East.Another key focus that made Wall Street perk up is Palantir's ongoing investment in digital transformation. Although areas such as customer relationship management (CRM) or financial reporting analytics have their own specific tools, Palantir differentiates itself because its platforms mesh together software, artificial intelligence, and data analytics into one cohesive solution. As data becomes more integral for decision-makers inside corporations, Palantir could benefit from its all-in-one platform.Keep an eye on valuationPalantir stock is down over 30% since early January and over 40% during the last 12 months. Currently, the company is trading at 15 times its trailing-12-month sales. By comparison, Palantir was trading at 21 times trailing-12-month sales around the same time in 2021.Despite Palantir's sell-off, Wall Street has highlighted several interesting growth drivers for the company. Moreover, the catalysts identified are meant to serve long-term growth rather than short-term momentum. The company is trading at a significant discount compared to its prior highs and has created a roadmap to generate and sustain long-term growth. As a result, now might be the optimal time to take a look at Palantir for your own portfolio.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"PLTR":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1141,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9085255935,"gmtCreate":1650715891924,"gmtModify":1676534781404,"author":{"id":"3578617841803194","authorId":"3578617841803194","name":"ngng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b909b3a42bcfbf3b1cbd8bf9ed13dc8a","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3578617841803194","idStr":"3578617841803194"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Daily","listText":"Daily","text":"Daily","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9085255935","repostId":"2229167207","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2229167207","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1650679337,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2229167207?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-23 10:02","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Netflix Stumbles and Disney Takes Heat. The company has convinced 222 million customers worldwide to hand it an average of nearly $12 apiece each month -- no small feat.

It did that by creating a peerless streaming experience, reinventing how movies and shows are enjoyed, and, OK, burning through $9 billion over the past seven years to give customers more Hollywood pizazz than they were paying for.

That last part sounds like a bad thing, but if investors are rewarding you with an endlessly climbing stock price and cut-rate debt, you give them what they want: rapid subscriber growth. During the pandemic, tens of millions joined Netflix (ticker: NFLX) even as price increases took hold. Studio production froze for a while, lowering costs. Free cash flow turned solidly positive, until the company committed itself to billions more in content spending.

Meanwhile, we got way ahead of ourselves on the stock, at one moment in November bidding it up to $700. By "we" I mean not me, because I didn't buy the stock, but really, me a little, because I contribute to an index fund that mindlessly scoops it up at any price. Anyhow, that was a nutty price, briefly valuing the company at $318 billion. At the time, 2024 free cash flow was pegged at $5.6 billion -- a highly theoretical number that was based on the belief that scale would overtake spending, allowing Netflix to turn on the profitability.

But then Netflix's subscriber growth slowed to a trickle during the fourth quarter, and this past week we learned that it turned slightly negative in the first quarter. It's still positive if we adjust for turning off service to Russia, but not by nearly enough to justify the stock price. Anyway, Netflix predicts greater subscriber losses during the second quarter. Shares fell to $216.

The key here for the tempted is to not get Ackman-ed. Hedge fund investor Bill Ackman spent more than $1 billion on Netflix after the January plunge at what he called an "attractive valuation." Then he sold this past week at a $400 million loss, writing to shareholders that growth has gotten "extremely difficult to predict." He also wrote that he wouldn't be surprised if Netflix ended up being an excellent investment from here -- hedgies are going to hedge.

Netflix has a plan to return to growth. It estimates that there are 100 million viewers free-riding off shared passwords. If you're logging on to BoJackHorseman1980's guest profile to avoid putting up $10 a month for a basic account, I'm guessing you're a price-sensitive consumer, and those are worth good money to advertisers. So, Netflix plans to add a lower-priced tier with commercials.

That's a sensible plan, says Tim Nollen at Macquarie Research, who pulled a reverse-Ackman by presciently downgrading Netflix to Underperform from Neutral after its January report. Discovery+, for one, has shown that cheap streaming plans with ads can bring in higher average revenue per user than pricier plans without ads. But Netflix says the shift will take up to two years. Maybe it's just setting beatable expectations, but creating an ad business is also a lot of work, says Nollen. "You don't just hire a salesperson and start doing it," he says. "There's a lot more infrastructure and technological capability and data management and all sorts of things that you have to do."

That $5.6 billion forecast in November for Netflix's 2024 free cash flow has now been trimmed to $3.5 billion, and it remains theoretical, but plenty feasible, in light of the company's current revenue base of around $30 billion a year. Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), the recent spinoff from AT&T $(T)$ that includes HBO Max, is expected to generate $3.8 billion in free cash this year on $12.6 billion in revenue. Nollen says to buy that one, but he's staying bearish on Netflix for now. "If I had a good sense that the inflection was coming," he says, "that would probably get me more interested in the stock."

Walt Disney is crushing it financially at its U.S. theme parks. And its streaming services are growing nicely. But its stock is the worst-performing member of the Dow Jones Industrial Average over the past year, losing 33%.

One reason is that Netflix's struggles have investors tempering their long-term expectations for streaming in general. Another is that Disney is spending richly on content, which has turned it for now into a thinly profitable growth company, and such companies tend to get marked down as interest rates rise.

There's also a Florida showdown. This past week, lawmakers there passed a measure to eliminate Disney World's longstanding right to effectively provide its own municipal services and oversight, which opens more questions on logistics and costs than it answers.

Disney, siding with upset workers, had run afoul of Florida's Republican lawmakers and governor by speaking out against a new law that restricts "instruction" on matters of sexual preference and gender identity to "age-appropriate" discussions in older grades. It also halted political contributions, which in Florida had gone mostly to Republicans.

Critics say the new law is vaguely worded and pretends to fix a problem that doesn't exist in order to sow political division. Fans say it combats "woke" overreach and gives parents more control over schooling.

J.P. Morgan says that stock gains from here could require "some relief of recent political headlines." BofA Securities says that a sum-of-the-parts analysis implies that Disney's streaming business is valued at a scant one times revenue.

I say...what do I say? That I'm a few more words away from a two-week vacation. If I had to choose between the falling knife of Netflix and what is suddenly the political hot potato of Disney, I'd grab the potato. But I'd be more inclined to keep my hands in my pockets until things cool off.

","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Netflix Stumbles and Disney Takes Heat. Stories","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1183504703","media":"zerohedge","summary":"Commodities Tie the Year Together\n2021 has been a harder year for many investors than the headline i","content":"
Commodities Tie the Year Together
\n
2021 has been a harder year for many investors than the headline indices imply. It’s been a year where ‘ESG’ and ‘Quant’ remain key structural trends in the investment community. And it’s been a year that has seen an almost constant, running debate over the outlook for growth and inflation. Commodities, it just so happens, find themselves at the center of all these stories.
\n
Let’s start with the challenging year. The casual observer could be forgiven for thinking that 2021 has been a walk in the park, with global equities returning 16% through September 1, with historically low volatility.
\n
But under the surface, it’s been hard. It’s been hard in a ‘good’ market like US equities, where major rotations have led to sharp swings in relative performance (US small caps rose +20% through mid-March, and are lower since). And it’s been hard in global equities, where MSCI China has fallen 26% since February 14, while MSCI Europe is up 14% over the same period. Many active managers are lagging their benchmarks.
\n
Yet quantitatively, it may be an even harder year in rates and FX. We run a Cross-Asset Systematic Trading tool, or CAST, which aims to identify what factors matter for cross-asset performance, and systematically invest based on how those factors look at a given moment. CAST asks “if I do what has historically worked in the market, given current information, what should I do?”.
\n
Year-to-date, following these historical patterns has led to poorer outcomes in interest rates and FX compared with all other asset classes. Where have historical patterns done better? Commodities. A lot better.
\n
Investing systematically based on attractive factors (carry, momentum, valuation, supportive fundamentals) has been working better in commodities than any other asset class (credit is second). Why? We have a few theories:
\n
\n

Natural inefficiencies in the commodity market create risk premium.

\n

The tendency of commodities to move in longer cycles means that momentum is more effective.

\n

Central banks aren’t intervening in these markets (and investor flows have been more muted), allowing more ‘normal’ dynamics to play out.

\n
\n
Given the prominence of quant and systematic investing as themes in investment management, this is pretty important. To the extent one can, go where these types of strategies are working.
\n
Commodities also tie into a second big investment theme, ESG. The underlying reality and seriousness of climate change remains constant, and indeed, looks even more pressing following the release from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Yet while ESG-linked equities have seen pronounced swings in 2021, commodity markets have delivered a far more consistent message.
\n
The price for EU Carbon emissions, for example (MO1 Comdty), has risen 88% year-to-date. My colleague Robert Pulleyn has been bullish on the belief that a higher price on emissions is essential to meet the EU’s climate goals. Near term, he sees the risk of a decline given recent gains, before prices resume their upward trend toward €102/ton by 2027 (see Utilities: Carbon: Softness Risk Ahead? Before Upwards March Resumes, August 9, 2021).
\n
Wait, you might say. If commodity markets are so focused on the realities of climate change, why are oil prices higher this year, not lower? Again, we think the market is actually pretty rational. Shareholder pressure and the threat of future EV adoption is causing oil producers to dramatically reduce their capex plans, a development that my colleague Martijn Rats believes will help limit supply and keep prices elevated (see Podcast | Thoughts on the Market: The Curious Case of Norway, EVs and Oil, September 2, 2021).
\n
ESG and systematic investing are major industry themes. 2021 being harder than the headline indices suggest is something we’re all aware of. But the biggest story of the year is the debate around growth and inflation. It’s been a year where ‘ESG’ and ‘Quant’ remain key structural trends in the investment community. And it’s been a year that has seen an almost constant, running debate over the outlook for growth and inflation. Commodities, it just so happens, find themselves at the center of all these stories.\nLet’s start with the challenging year. The casual observer could be forgiven for thinking that 2021 has been a walk in the park, with global equities returning 16% through September 1, with historically low volatility.\nBut under the surface, it’s been hard. Many active managers are lagging their benchmarks.\nYet quantitatively, it may be an even harder year in rates and FX. We run a Cross-Asset Systematic Trading tool, or CAST, which aims to identify what factors matter for cross-asset performance, and systematically invest based on how those factors look at a given moment. CAST asks “if I do what has historically worked in the market, given current information, what should I do?”.\nYear-to-date, following these historical patterns has led to poorer outcomes in interest rates and FX compared with all other asset classes. Where have historical patterns done better? Commodities. A lot better.\nInvesting systematically based on attractive factors (carry, momentum, valuation, supportive fundamentals) has been working better in commodities than any other asset class (credit is second). Why? We have a few theories:\n\nNatural inefficiencies in the commodity market create risk premium.\nThe tendency of commodities to move in longer cycles means that momentum is more effective.\nCentral banks aren’t intervening in these markets (and investor flows have been more muted), allowing more ‘normal’ dynamics to play out.\n\nGiven the prominence of quant and systematic investing as themes in investment management, this is pretty important. To the extent one can, go where these types of strategies are working.\nCommodities also tie into a second big investment theme, ESG. The underlying reality and seriousness of climate change remains constant, and indeed, looks even more pressing following the release from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Yet while ESG-linked equities have seen pronounced swings in 2021, commodity markets have delivered a far more consistent message.\nThe price for EU Carbon emissions, for example (MO1 Comdty), has risen 88% year-to-date. Before Upwards March Resumes, August 9, 2021).\nWait, you might say. If commodity markets are so focused on the realities of climate change, why are oil prices higher this year, not lower? Again, we think the market is actually pretty rational. Shareholder pressure and the threat of future EV adoption is causing oil producers to dramatically reduce their capex plans, a development that my colleague Martijn Rats believes will help limit supply and keep prices elevated (see Podcast | Thoughts on the Market: The Curious Case of Norway, EVs and Oil, September 2, 2021).\nESG and systematic investing are major industry themes. 2021 being harder than the headline indices suggest is something we’re all aware of. But the biggest story of the year is the debate around growth and inflation. What, it seems fair to say, do commodities have to say about that?\nWhile commodity prices are often synonymous with inflation, our forecasts suggest they’ll now play a smaller role. The biggest downside risk to prices is likely to come from core goods (where demand has been well-above trend), while the biggest risk to the upside is likely to come from rental growth (which is a large share of the basket, and strong). Nonetheless, recent stabilization in commodity prices should reinforce the transitory nature of headline inflation, which our economists expect to moderate into mid-2022.\nOn the growth debate, however, commodities are front and center. Our economists see a 3Q slowdown in both the US and China(but not Europe, which is a story for another time). Copper prices and the CRB RIND index, two key harbingers of cyclical strength, remain high, consistent with a view that this economic weakness will be temporary.\n\nWe’ll be watching the resilience of these indicators as August data, reported in September, may look poor, and test the market's resolve.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":568,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":173020841,"gmtCreate":1626588090383,"gmtModify":1703762106059,"author":{"id":"3578617841803194","authorId":"3578617841803194","name":"ngng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b909b3a42bcfbf3b1cbd8bf9ed13dc8a","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3578617841803194","idStr":"3578617841803194"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Daily","listText":"Daily","text":"Daily","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/173020841","repostId":"1123523681","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":648,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":190454906,"gmtCreate":1620647404505,"gmtModify":1704346054581,"author":{"id":"3578617841803194","authorId":"3578617841803194","name":"ngng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b909b3a42bcfbf3b1cbd8bf9ed13dc8a","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3578617841803194","idStr":"3578617841803194"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$8I Holdings Ltd(8IH.AU)$am i buying the wrong company?
